Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Kitchen Is Opening Three Locations in the San Francisco Bay Area | Eater SF

"Delivery and to-go facility taking over the former Ben’s Fast Food at 60 Morris Street in SoMa, with opening menus that mirror the entirely gluten-free Los Angeles locations and exclusive-to-San Francisco specials in the pipeline. Salads, bowls, wraps, soups, desserts, and, recently, rotisserie chickens anchor the lineup, joined by gluten-free pizza and pasta as the Goop Rotisserie and Goop Superfina concepts are rolled into the project. Think maple pumpkin bars, turmeric-spiced chicken bone broth, and “the goop Father Italian Chopped Salad.” Expect lots of dietary restriction friendliness with numerous vegan options, and food finished in “Certified Clean” sauces, dressings, and marinades, offered for delivery and pickup across a wide radius." - Paolo Bicchieri

Portland Food Cart Matta Will Close, Opening Within the Lil’ Dame Space | Eater Portland

"For the last four years I've watched Richard Le run Matta as a Northeast Portland food cart, serving standout items like steak frites with fish sauce and breakfast sandwiches on pandan buns. He describes his food as Việt Kiều — dishes born from the Vietnamese diaspora and from memories of growing up in California and recipes passed down from his mother, aunt, and grandmother — but over time the cart shifted from family recipes toward sandwiches and burgers that incorporate a Vietnamese palette. After finding that more complex, seasonal dishes tested well at pop-up restaurants, Le decided to pivot: Matta will close the cart with a party on August 13 and reopen as a residency, freeing up bandwidth to be more intricate and farm-driven. He plans to bring back early staples such as thịt kho (braised pork belly with soft-boiled egg), short rib curry, and his mom’s omelet studded with shrimp and tomato, and fans may still see the pandan-green breakfast buns at occasional brunches. Beyond the food, Matta has expanded into a lifestyle brand with t-shirt drops, a podcast, breakdance battles, collaborations like with San Francisco’s Studio Mondine, and documentaries as part of All The Homies Network, which earned them a James Beard Award." - Janey Wong

SF Is Getting the Activated Charcoal Food Festival No One Asked For | Eater SF

"At the SoMa Street Food Park, a festival called 50 Shades of Charcoal will be held on Sunday, July 22 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring about a dozen food trucks and pop-up stands; it's being promoted as possibly the world's first food festival dedicated to activated charcoal and uses the tagline “Charcoal is definitely the new black.” The event leans into charcoal's supposed medical uses in its Facebook description by calling activated charcoal a "natural detoxifier," and promises charcoal-dyed offerings and an on-site bar pouring items like charcoal lemonade or sangria. I note, however, that activated charcoal is mostly flavorless (with only a slight tinge of chalk or cement), has limited evidence of general health benefits beyond specific medical uses, can absorb medications and nutrients (hence the event's disclaimer to avoid charcoal-laced food within two hours of taking prescription meds), and has even been banned in food in some places like New York City—so don't expect a charcoal-dyed corndog to cure what ails you." - Tim Forster

Google
I ordered the 8-piece mix bucket of fried chicken, and honestly, it hit the spot. The outside was perfectly crispy and full of flavor, and the meat stayed tender and juicy — especially the dark meat. I usually go straight for the thighs and my partner loves the legs, and this bucket didn’t disappoint. Every piece was solid. I asked if they had any special sauce to go with it, and they only gave me hot sauce, but the chicken was good enough on its own that it didn’t really need anything extra. The portion was great for two people. The main bucket looked kind of small at first, but the rest of the chicken was packed separately, so you’re definitely getting a full order. Price-wise, it’s typical San Francisco — not cheap, but definitely affordable for two. Overall, I highly recommend the fried chicken. Next time, I’m definitely trying it with the waffles

Google
Not what I was expecting at all. It says food court but it is just a window with a bunch of lockers. It's almost completely food delivery guys. It looked pretty dirty on the outside and the alley in front was dirty as well. On the other side of the window (where the food comes from) seems clean. The food was pretty good. There is not anywhere to eat, so this place is only good if you are getting it delivered.

Google
This is a sketchy ghost kitchen with a single window that handles the food for OVER 50 ghost restaurants registered in this exact address on delivery apps. There are a dozens of delivery drivers loitering in the area and it can feel very unsafe because many of them are rude and aggressive. They also sleep and urinate on the streets there.

Google
This place is super sketchy, especially at night. The floor inside was littered with trash and the service was little to be desired. They have a couple good establishments but most a mediocre at best.

Google
I was looking at the menu and some guy on a scooter slammed a door into me and then yelled at me for standing next to the door. Which is literally their waiting. He was a delivery driver here. He slammed a metal door into the back of my head and then yelled at me. My friends already ordered but I don't want to be here. This place is the apocalypse of food.

Google
Its a pick up spot. Cheap chicken sandwiches with fries and drink for ~$10 though for office workers in the area. Just order on website and walk there to get your order. Pretty filling too. May order a couple more times for lunch breaks.

Google
I am taking one star off for not giving me a spin at the wheel. Bad marketing. Do not go in person as there is no actual restaurant.

Google
The Public Health Department should seriously consider reviewing Soma Food Court. The entire sidewalk reeks of urine, and it's common to see delivery drivers urinating, sitting, or even lying down on the sidewalk. There is a clear lack of organization in how orders are handled and collected. The overall environment raises concerns about sanitation and cleanliness.

Yelp
The staff here is extremely rude. Could've been told to politely wait outside, however the front desk guy was on some type of power trip. Rudely asked another gentleman to wait outside in the rain as well. Someone's gotta tell this dude that's not how you talk to adults
