"Not far from the train station, Gare Saint-Paul, this little bistro is buzzing. This is not a place for white tablecloths or pompous service; rather a lively atmosphere, simple, trendy decor, a stylish waitress juggling tables in time to the beat of a well-chosen playlist, and a tiny open kitchen. At the helm is Sarah Hamza, chef and owner. Her cooking is fresh, generous and contemporary, with that unique quality that comes from her Algerian roots. This heritage also inspires her clever twists to dishes such as trout with smoked butter lentil stew, blood orange and harissa-glazed carrots. The menu is short, the dishes on the blackboard change often, and the ingredients speak for themselves." - Michelin Inspector

Food is v good..my hubby and I shared a starter, 2 mains, 2 glasses of wine, and a dessert.. amazing starter..slightly spicy thick broth with slivers of cuttlefish.. my duck meat is cooked just nice and the sardine fish for my hubby is fresh and not over powering .. dessert panna cotta is interesting/slightly more firm and my husband like it.. highly recommended.. also very friendly staff and chef..

Everyone was super kind and the food was amazing. I reckon the tapioca cheese is their version of a Brazilian appetiser (tapioca dices) and it reminded me of home, it was so delicious and definitely the star of the night. I strongly recommend getting reservations as I tried to go before without one but they didn’t have any tables available.

Excellent service but Soma’s food is not its equal. Limited choices. The tapioca starter stole the show. But it was downhill after that. The beef was poor quality and unattractively plated. The wine list poor. And the chocolate mousse was garnished with green peas. Yes. Peas. Needs to pick up its game. Very surprised at the high ratings in a culinary-savvy town.

We had an absolutely delicious meal at Soma! As soon as we walked in we felt like we were welcomed into a warm and friendly home. The food was exceptional and The waitress was so lovely. This restaurant was very accomodating for gluten free options on the rotating menu for my coeliac disease.

Soma is a fantastic little place. The food was a lovely fusion of different Mediterranean cuisines with really interesting flavours and beautiful presentation. The ambiance is chill and the service super attentive, efficient and delivered with a smile. The open kitchen, the great playlist and friendly staff were a pleasure, which I especially appreciated being a solo traveller. I felt very at home and very welcomed here. Recommend 💯 %

Söma is a small, modern bistro in Lyon that stands out with its cool interior and the unique experience of watching the main chef, Sarah, cook right in front of you. The open kitchen adds a dynamic and engaging element to the dining experience. Given its popularity, making a reservation ahead of time is essential. The menu at Söma is intriguing, featuring a variety of ingredients from around the world, creating interesting and innovative combinations. I appreciated the creativity and global influences. However, while the food was good, it didn’t quite reach the level of being extraordinary or unforgettable. It was enjoyable, but not the kind of meal that leaves you in awe. Another aspect to note is the portion size. The portions are quite small for the high price, which is something diners should be aware of. This isn’t necessarily a negative, as the quality of ingredients and the dining experience are clear priorities here, but it's important to know that you might need to order multiple dishes to feel satisfied. Overall, Söma is a solid choice for those looking for a modern bistro experience with a unique twist. I would rate it 4 out of 5. It's definitely a place I would consider returning to, with the hope that next time, the food might just elevate the experience to a perfect 5 out of 5.

We visited Soma on our first evening of our weekend in Lyon. A lovely cosy little restaurant tucked away in st.paul. the atmo was very pleasant, and it was very cool to be able to see Into the kitchen at the chefs working their culinary wizardry. The food was outstanding, I had the tapioca and cheese starter, followed by the the beef pastry main and the chocolate mousse for dessert. All the food was exceptional, and the hostess was extremely helpful. I would highly recommend booking a table to go here when you're in Lyon.
