The 38 Essential Barcelona Restaurants

"In an antique bar space with over 100 years of history, on a coveted corner in one of the trendiest parts of the Eixample, Soma opened in 2021 to instant accolades from the gourmands of Barcelona. Cozy decor and a Parisian-style terrace set the stage for a menu of Catalan tapas with a strong Italian character and hints of France. Look for duck a l’orange, galetes de socarrat de risotto (a risotto cooked until compact and crispy like the bottom of a classic paella), marinated mackerel with strawberries, and ragu-stuffed rigatoni." - Sam Zucker

Memorable and exquisite tastes honoring the founders of this fine cafe. Parmesan croquet is a dream. Burrata and tomato on risotto biscuits is a paradise. Beef cheeks melt in your mouth with tantalizing richness. Possibly one of the best flans. And dont forget the apple crumble with ginger ice cream. All for a reasonable price for the quality including the cava. Highly recommmended. Must reserve in advance

We managed to grab a last minutes table outside. Food was delicious, risotto was a little too undercooked for us but the flavours were still there - that is our only somewhat negative comment. Service was great and perfect timings for the food. Highly recommend

Soma brings the goods. This place serves top class tapas in a cosy bistro setting. Service was good and our waiter very friendly. Had a couple of plates to share with my wife, and each one hit the spot - with my favorite being the veal cheek with carrot puree. Would stop by again when in Barcelona.

The food was underwhelming and the dining experience on the bar is uncomfortable and unsuitable for having a convenient dinner. The place doesn't have good air conditioning/ventilation, only a ceiling fan which didn't help much so it was very hot. The staff was nice but inattentive, when we asked for the bill the waiter took 15 minutes to bring it after asking for a second time to bring it, while he was right in front of us the entire time at the bar and next to the cash register doing other things. The steak tartar was bland and with a weird texture. The skirt steak meat (photo not included in the review) took way too long to be prepared and was way too chewy but at least the sauce was nice. The cheese fritters and patatas bravas were good. Overall for what it was, in terms of experience and food, it felt that it was overpriced.

We could not believe carrots could taste this well. My son a dedicated carnivore felt the dish of carrots fourways was the best dish we had amongest many in our weekend away in catalonia. The octopus I had was outstanding as was the veal cheek. Good selection of wines by the glass but the homemade lemonade is outstanding. Do book so not to be disappointed.

This was our favorite dinner spot in Barcelona. Incredible atmosphere and food. The waitresses were both extremely friendly. Make sure to reserve in advance.

We had a perfect evening enjoying the delicious food and the excellent service. We sat outside and enjoyed the warm evening in November. We had a large selection of dishes to share and enjoyed a bottle of orange natural wine together with different drinks both to start and to finish. We had a great conversation and the staff let us keep the table until they closed at midnight. I highly recommend this place.

Had a very expertly prepared dinner at this vibrant and cosy bistro. Tables and interior space is a bit small, as a party of three and barely enough table space the fat dishes, and bottle of wine. For starters, we had the patatas bravas, prawn carpaccio in almond sauce (reminiscent of a very nice satay), roasted cauliflower, sautéed mushrooms, which was the best mushroom dish we had on our two week Spain, food tour. Means we have the rigatoni, ricotta gnocchi (very delicate, but the sweet pea sauce didn’t quite work), and the pork belly (nice crispy skin, but meat was a bit dried out). We also had a very nice bottle of orange wine called Sking & queen. I love the weight and our Spain food tour.
