Somalisa Camp

We spent five days at Somalisa in September 2023. The experience far-exceeded my expectations. To begin with, the staff were all delightful, competent people who worked hard to keep us comfortable and well-fed. The camp we stayed at consisted of wall tents on raised platforms. Each tent had its own bathroom facilities. The bed was large and comfortable. We did not expect luxurious accommodations in this isolated setting, but the individual and communal tents were well-appointed. Our guide, like all of them we encountered, was a generous and knowledgeable person who knew the park like the back of his hand. He showed us the many different habitats within that section of the park, and communicated with the other guides to get us to where we could see the most interesting animals. If you want to see elephants, I can't think of a better place than Hwange. They were everywhere, and made regular appearances in and around our camp. We also saw lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and numerous other species of birds and animals.

We truly enjoyed our stay in Somalisa. The camp is not only beautiful, with stunning views of the wildlife gathering at the pond just outside, but also has a unique and warm atmosphere. The service was fantastic—personal, genuine, and attentive. A big thank you to Star, who was an incredible camp host with such great energy and enthusiasm, and to Edward, our outstanding guide, who made every safari exciting, and who taught us so much. Thank you Somalisa!

Absolutely stellar! We stayed at Acacia where Abigail and Dophas took care of the lodge and drives respectively. They were wonderful hosts, knowledgeable and made us feel like family. Animals everywhere! In and around the camp, on the drives we saw cheetahs, lions, about 25 giraffes in a pack, bazillions of elephants, wildebeests, buffalo, and many more. My wife and I can’t wait to come back some day with our young ones.

I returned to Hwange after a year, mainly because I had fallen in love with the wilderness of Zimbabwe. |Last year I was here in October which was very hot, but very exciting from a wildlife viewing point of view. We stayed at ABC Somalisa Expeditions in October last year. |This year we decided to come in July when the weather was a little bit cooler, and stay in a more luxurious camp namely ABCs Somalisa Main.||The accommodations/tente were definitely larger and more luxurious, with a fireplace in the tents ( which we needed at 0° morning temperatures ), but overall, I felt that the care and personal attention that one received at the ABC Expeditions camp was better ( and was more reasonable, rate wise ) , as was the dining experience.|ABC has a good reputation at all their properties, but I found it interesting that their smaller and more reasonably priced property was a somewhat nicer experience.|Hwange a destination is very hard to beat. Like Mana Pools, it is unique and Zimbabwe is incredibly underrated as a safari destination. Both these places will always be magical.

We spent 3 nights at Somalisa Acacia during a two week safari with our family of four (kids age 13 and 16) in June. We had an amazing time and I would absolutely recommend this camp! Our guide, Mike, was the best. He was patient in explaining the environment and behavior of animals. The entire staff made sure we were taken care of when at camp, the food was amazing, and the level of comfort was first class. There is no way to describe coming back to camp to find a huge group of elephants drinking from the pool right in front of your tent. Can't say enough good things about this experience!

My wife and I Somalisa Acacia in July for 4 nights. It is spectacular in all ways. The service is amazing, the food great and the safaris spectacular. ||Every staff member we encountered was friendly and wanted to ensure we had a great experience. Our guide was Mike Papa. We cannot say enough positive things about the knowledge, care and effort Mike in to ensure we had an unforgettable experience. ||We want to bring our entire family there as soon as possible.

The most amazing vacation from beginning to end, similar camp to Mana Pools but different safari/wildlife experience. |Special shoutout to Michael and Robert for taking us on incredible tours. Their knowledge and experience made the safaris so much fun and above all us, kept us feeling safe.|The camp is stunning, the food is delicious and the staff couldn’t be nicer or more helpful.

Perfect place, beautiful people, excellent food, excellent game drives, excellent guides. Very comfortable huts (tents). Lots of animals, especially ele'is ☺️😊|There is Fred the elephant who knows the camp, and it's great fun having him around.
