Best Soft Serve in Town - SomiSomi is Absolutely Addictive! If you’re searching for the best taiyaki soft serve in Sugarland Texas, stop scrolling and go straight to SomiSomi right now! This place deserves every single one of these 5 stars and more. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is perfect: super cute Korean-inspired décor, Instagram-worthy walls, and that incredible smell of fresh-baked taiyaki fish waffles being made right in front of you. It’s not just an ice cream shop; it’s a total hangout spot for friends, dates, or even solo treat runs. The Ah-Boong (taiyaki + soft serve) is life-changing. I got the Cookies and cream + a filled red bean taiyaki, topped with Fruity Pebbles, mochi, and their signature caramelized crunch. Every bite is the perfect mix of warm, crispy waffle and cold, creamy soft serve. Service is always fast and friendly even when the line is out the door (which it usually is on weekends). Prices are totally fair for the portion and quality; you’re getting premium Korean dessert here, not basic ice cream. Hands down the best Korean soft serve & taiyaki spot ever. 11/10, will be back weekly! 🐟🍦✨ #SomiSomi #KoreanDessert #Taiyaki #AhBoong #SoftServe #SugarlandTexasDessert #UbeIceCream #MatchaLovers #BestIceCream #DessertGoals

Google
Two starts only because my friend said that ice cream there was okay. I was disappointed because payed $10 for box where only one fish with sesame was not from raw dough. Three fishes were with cream that fell out through holes because the dough was thin and raw. You can think that it's just me picky, but two my other friends said the same. I thought about giving it a chance, but the filling didn't evoke positive emotions either. The sasame tasted like coffee grounds, the matcha cream tasted like an unsweetened, slightly tart flavor, and the custard tasted almost like nothing because for me there was no taste of dairy or sweetness.

Every time we go we go along with my family we get treated so nice. Sometimes there’s a lot of people and the lady there still manages to take care of the line and get the orders out by herself, so much respect for this type of service.

Google
If you’re looking for a sweet treat in Sugar Land or Missouri City, you HAVE to check out Somi Somi! They have great soft serve and warm, sweet, fish-shaped pastries with fillings called taiyaki. They always have amazing customer service, treat you with respect, and work so diligently. There’s one young lady named Lydia I see sometimes when I go, and she is always so nice. She always has a smile, gives great customer service and recommendations, and her taiyaki is always on point 😋👌🏾. My favorite right now is the Nutella-filled taiyaki with banana pudding ice cream. RUN TO SOMI SOMI NOW!

Stopped by after dinner for dessert. My usually go to is the soft serve. You can get this different ways this time around I got the upside down Ah Boong (served in a cup). Many flavors to choose from but I like the basic vanilla with Nutella fill. Ice cream is soft and not too sweet, the Nutella adds that extra sweetness and the Taiyaki balances the two flavor profiles with soft and chewy. The rest of the family prefers the Taiyaki Nutella 5 pack, which is their go to. I went during the grand opening a while back and they use to have the chairs but the place is so small there’s only stand up counters. We usually just hang outside because there’s one of those city container park right up front.

Google
SomiSomi is hands down my favorite ice cream spot in Sugar Land! Their soft-serve is incredibly smooth and creamy, and that adorable fish-shaped waffle—so cute and delicious. The combo is just perfect. Swear I’ll be back again and again!

Google
We came across this ice cream shop today and decided to give it a try. Since it was cold so we didn’t really get the ice cream. My son got the nutella filling taiyaki. Me and my wife got the red bean taiyaki. It’s our first time trying and it was surprisingly good! Judi, the staff who served us these was patient and nice too! Would definitely come again on a less chilly day and try the ice cream.

Google
I tried somisomi for the first time with my best friend the other day and I had heard a lot about it from other people but omg I didn’t expect it to be so good!! I got a limited time swirl i believe, matcha and milk tea with a matcha filling inside the fish and matcha powder and biscotti powder on top and it was so delicious. Normally I don’t like ice cream but i seriously enjoyed this so much and would definitely come back again and get the same thing, just maybe not the fish waffle as I feel it wasn’t that great nor the filling. The inside was super simple, nothing too much, I wish it had seating as my friend and I had to sit in the car and eat but i understand since the space is small. The worker that helped us was sweet and very quick with our order aswell! Overall a super great soft serve spot!

Yelp
i've been to this place once, months ago. when i tell you i've thought of it every day since I MEAN IT. THE SERVICE WAS GREAT AND IT'S SO CUTE IN THERE!!! such yummy desserts i need to go back soon

Yelp
Absolutely Delicious!!! I stopped by Somi Somi for my usual ube soft serve, and I have to give a special shoutout to the girl nushin on counter! she was absolutely amazing! From the moment I walked in, she greeted me with the warmest smile and had such a positive, friendly attitude that instantly brightened my day. It's rare to find service this genuine and cheerful, and it made my whole Somi Somi experience even better. Not only was the dessert delicious (as always), but the vibe and energy she brought made it feel special. She's the definition of great customer service and the reason I'll keep coming back.

Yelp
Somi somi is my sister and I's favorite place for a sweet pick me up treat. We always get the upside down which comes with a taiyaki with filling of choice over an ice cream swirl. We love to play around with their combos as they change their featured flavors every few weeks. In the past month, we have tried the peach/dalgona and the matcha/ube flavors. All of their flavors are true to description, creamy, and very delicious. For our filling, we tend to alternate between the custard and the nutella. They also let you choose ice cream toppings for each order; I love getting the rainbow crispy cereal. Service is always pretty fast, even if there is a line. No seats inside, but they have an outside seating area that they built. Great vibes.

Yelp
New staff and everyone is friendly and accommodating. The new staff is very informative when it Congress to food allergies ands sensitivities. It always smells amazing in there!

Yelp
I've been to Somisomi a couple of times over the years it's been open, and while it's never bad, I feel like it also never left the best impression on me either. I went again to try the sweet corn flavored ice cream, since I don't see that flavor sold anywhere else, and on the first bite I could definitely taste the sweet corn flavor, but for some reason, every bite after that, the flavor fell flat and did not really come through. I wanted to like it, but didn't find it special and could not finish the entire cup. The taiyaki itself was decent, but also was not anything I would come back for. I got the matcha custard filling which is new, and it was just okay.
google avatar

Suelynn N.

Yelp
After dinner, we came here for some warm dessert. They also have ice cream but they do not give samples for the ice creams. I normally get Nutella or custard but I wanted to try black sesame. Black sesame would be good for people who prefer nutty flavors and not too sweet. The dough is mochi and slightly sweet. There are no chairs or table but there is a standing self or picnic right outside. Parking is free and out front .

Yelp
Soo yummyyy! If you want to try a Korean dessert place, this is the place to go! The soft served ice cream is 10/10. I got the ube + cookie and cream. Those two go so well with each other. Literally my two favorite flavors in one. They give you the option of adding toppings so, I got the fruity pebble and they add a macaroon on top. The workers were super friendly. My friends and I came near closing time so, I felt bad but they were still very helpful and sweet. The last time I went here I got a taiyaki with my ice cream but this time I didn't. I would say if it's your first time here it is worth trying the taiyaki with the ice cream! Overall, I had a great experience here and the ice cream was amazing! Can't wait to go back in the future!

Yelp
Such a unique dessert spot! The service was great - Char was quick, friendly, and her smile was infectious! The restaurant doesn't have any seating which I found odd but it's open and airy. Enjoyed it!
google avatar

Wendy C.

Yelp
The overall food is great. Green tea ice cream is really nice, creamy yet not too sweet. However, the fish was cold on the ice cream. It would be nice if they warm it up a bit before serve on the ice cream, it became a bit hard and lost the chewy texture.

Yelp
This place is always a great spot to stop by after dinner nearby. The staff is always friendly and quick to get your order ready. The flavors are always on point. Unfortunately, there is no seating inside, although there is a standing bar by the window. The mixed flavors are always interesting and they are my go-to's. What's better than one flavor? Two flavors. I always add a little bit of graham cracker on top for some extra texture. Pricing is reasonable and the portions are pretty good. They also serve taiyaki, which I have not personally tried. If you are looking for a nice sweet treat (but not too sweet) and you are in the First Colony area, this is a great option for all ages and situations - date night, family night, solo night, it's all good!
google avatar

Jasmine S.

Yelp
They have a a small selection of flavors to choose from and have combos to choose from that they change weekly. There's also a wide selection of toppings to pick from. This place is very tasty. There are only a few standing tables tho/no seating.
google avatar

Yelp
Lady at the front did not look happy. She did not greet me or made any eye contact whatsoever. For some reason, the store was hot af inside which bothered me. I get the 5 taiyaki which consisted of matcha, custard, red bean and cheese. The cheese flavor is one of my favorite! Shop is pretty small location compared to the Katy one. Taiyaki still tasted good so I gave it a 3 star despite the bad vibes from one worker. The one who was making the taiyaki seemed cool though !

Yelp
Korean creamy ice cream that is quite popular for their fish shaped Taiyaki pastry. We were over in the area snagging some bubble tea and decided to up the sweet meter even further off the charts. This shop is small no inside seating is available. There is a small standing counter that can fit maybe 5/6 comfortably. They do have a small wooden area that is directly outside the store but its design is a bit abstract. I opted for matcha soft serve dusted either match powder and my kids got the cookies and cream with an oreo cookie dust. The soft serve was delicious, the portion was generous so we probably could have split one. In soft serve fashion it melted quickly. We also ordered 2 Taitaki filled with Oreo and red bean to go. We perhaps should have eaten these fresh as they tend to get soggy and deflate the longer you wait to eat. I ended up re-baking them in the oven when we arrived home to crisp them back up a little. My kids oggled over the crock charm, but couldn't bring myself to spend $10 bucks on them (we lose them like crazy). Parking was a bit difficult to locate as it shares the lot with several neighboring businesses and restaurants.

Yelp
Great high-quality soft-serve, and I got the new sweet corn flavor which was excellent. You can also get toppings like cereal/cracker dust and fruity pebbles specks. Service was excellent - commitment to getting the toppings just right and perfect and also prompt. Small interior but there is a seating area or deck outside. Also there deal of two taiyaki for less than $5 was good - got the custard and sesame. The cheddar is also great and goes with the filling. Definitely recommended!

Yelp
Love me some Taiyakis and this place has taiyakis. Yay! Those filled with red bean paste were awesome! Custard and matcha fillings were good. The Cheddar Cheese and Oreo were A-OK. Warning: LEAVE ALONE the black sesame! Never ever in my life I had such a horrible taiyaki filled with super salty black sesame paste which tasted so gross and freaked me out big time. OMGEEEEEE. I thought it was a mistake in the first place like whoever was making the black sesame paste might have put in salt rather than sugar by mistake. So, when I went back to buy more taiyakis, I asked a staff member about the salty black sesame taiyaki that I had and confirmed that (to my surprise!) the black sesame taiyaki was meant to be salty, like soooooo salty and sooooooo gross. OH MY GOD. The matcha and ube swirl soft serve was alright. The two flavors would stand out better on their own but when swirled up, the whole thing tasted kinda strange.

Yelp
My daughter loves this place. Customizable options and super tasty! We make sure to stop by anytime we're in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the matcha ice cream with Oreo. Custard and red bean filling tastes bomb asf. This was my 3rd time back
google avatar

Yelp
The matcha ice cream was too earthy for me but the Ube ice cream was delightful. My daughter and I visited one evening after work

Yelp
Small shop at the corner by various Korean barbecue and bubble tea establishments. It's not the ideal place to sit and chat... but there is a quaint seating area with benches outside. The service was quick. The taiyaki was also delicious. It's 80% bread and soggy though, but I still thought it was delicious. Compared to the Katy location, this place definitely had less people but quality wasn't as great. Still a decent dessert place though.

Shakeithra H.

Yelp
Didn't have an option to try sample types and Ashely was a bit rude she rushed the kids with the topping rudely with even though we said we were new. Maybe will try again
google avatar

Kimberly H.

Yelp
The taiyaki here has a great texture and flavor. I really like getting matcha custard, custard, and Nutella filling. The soft serve is also notable, especially the matcha flavor. It's very light, refreshing and not too sweet. I don't recommend getting the ah boong or the upside down because the taiyaki made to order so it's so hot it melts the ice cream really fast. Also the taiyaki ends up having less filling when ordered that way. For ambiance, this place has no seating at all. You can stand and eat but it gets crowded pretty fast so it's not the best environment to slowly enjoy your soft serve.
google avatar

Yelp
A small ice cream parlor in a strip mall. There is no seating area inside, but they have a long standing table for customers to enjoy the ice cream. There is an outdoor public benches for anyone though. The ice cream parlor sells soft serves and taiyaki. Flavors change seasonally which is nice so that customers will keep coming for more. This time I had the milk soft serve in a cup, and the strawberry upside down ahboong with Nutella filling taiyaki. Both soft serves were smooth and not overly sweet. The milk soft serve was good. The strawberry soft serve had a good flavor. The taiyaki was crispy but the Nutella was hard. It would have been better for it to be more runny. This is definitely a place I would come back repeatedly.
google avatar

Melodi D.

Yelp
Loved Somisomi! I was a bit skeptical, since I thought it was just a regular ice cream establishment, but the flavor options and the taiyaki make all the difference. I ordered the green tea ice cream with the red bean taiyaki. The ice cream was so yummy: it had a strong green tea flavor and was not too sweet. The taiyaki was hot, sweet, and flavorful, and it paired really well with the ice cream. Overall, I highly recommend!

Yelp
We came here for some dessert, and I got the guava upside down ah-boong with custard filling and topped with oreo and cookie crumbs. The guava soft serve was so light and refreshing, super creamy, and yummy! It was pretty sweet, and the portion size was generous so I think it could definitely be shared between two people. The crispy taiyaki on top provided a nice texture contrast, but there wasn't much custard filling (you can see they barely line the inside of the cone). They are also pretty light handed on the toppings, so I could barely taste them. I'd recommend getting the soft serve by itself (without the mostly hollow taiyaki on top) and then getting the taiyaki with filling on the inside separately. I think the separate taiyaki with filling tasted better than the one on top of the soft serve because there's more chewy soft waffle texture on the inside and more of the warm filling versus the hollow shell you get on the soft serve (same batter though). The custard and Nutella fillings are sweeter, and the taro and red bean are less sweet options. Others in my group got the fresh strawberry milk and coffee floats and said they were tasty. The shop was clean, and the treats came out within a reasonable time. The service was fine. There wasn't a place to sit, so we took our treats to go. It's located in a large plaza with plenty of parking.

Yelp
I first visited this place in L.A. and I was so happy to see this shop again! I sometimes have a big craving for the Korean red bean fish dessert, and it went so well with the ube ice cream. You can choose different fillings on the fish, and there are lots of ice cream flavors to choose from. The fish is absolutely delicious, soft, and hot (Not a real fish, just fyi). If you've never tried the korean dessert, you must try it. They also have strawberry milk drinks! I would come here every week if I lived closer :(
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place!!! My cousin introduced me to it on my trip to Irvine, CA and I was so happy to find out we had a location back home in Houston. Sugarland is a bit out of my driving radius, but I found myself in the area after having dinner at Aga's. We joined several excited patrons in a buzzing storefront on a Saturday evening. We were able to order pretty quickly, and decided on the upside down Nutella-filled taiyaki with ube and chocolate soft serve. We waited a bit as the employees called up each customer. Once our order was ready, we decided which toppings we wanted on the soft serve. The toppings are unlimited, and include delicious options like graham cracker crumble and Oreo crumble. We opted for a Oreo topping and watched with excitement as they topped the soft serve with a golden brown taiyaki. We sat outside (they have a small sitting area with benches). The soft serve was absolutely delicious - the ube and chocolate pairing is divine. Ube can be a hit or miss flavor, but they did a great job with it. The Oreo topping also went very well with the creamy soft serve. It was J's first time trying taiyaki, and his jaw dropped after his first bite! The crunchiness and warm Nutella inside is to die for. I can't wait to come back here! This is probably my favorite Asian soft serve spot in Houston. Though it's a bit out of the way, I will probably find myself driving to Sugarland just to have it again!
google avatar

Libby H.

Yelp
Very creamy and yummy soft serve! I loved the cookies n cream swirled with ube. I topped with Oreo crumbles and it was delicious. Hit the spot when craving soft serve! The rest of my family enjoyed as well! It was quick too. There is just no seating inside the location - but there is an outdoor area where there's basically benches.
google avatar

Britney L.

Yelp
Got the matcha/strawberry swirl with nutella and sweet corn with matcha custard and added every possible topping. Loved the matcha strawberry twirl, a classic. We originally wanted ube but they were out so we decided to try the sweet corn. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. As always, the taiyaki was crispy and warm. Ice cream had a smooth soft serve texture. I love this place!!!
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
Had some good icecream here today! I had Cookies and Carmel mixed one and twas food! I miss the seasonal special one, sesame flavor! Ube is also nice one too! Come for those who have sweet tooth Cheers

Yelp
My friends and I tried looking for something sweet nearby and ended up Somi Somi. I have had other Somi Somi's before, and overall, I think all their ice cream base is okay. I got the ube and milk tea swirl upside down ahboong, and their ice cream flavors are not as milky and creamy as I would have like with a tartish after taste. I do like how they allow you to have more than two toppings though and ended getting three toppings on my ice cream. Their toppings selection consisted of sprinkles, oreos, cap n crunch dust, and more. The taiyaki was made fresh in front of us and was crispy when we bit into it. They also allowed a filling for our taiyaki. We chose nutella, and they gave us a generous amount. When I went, they had a lot of workers in the front, but they were busy discussing and conversing amongst each other. Despite having a lot of workers in the front, an order was messed up, and the desserts came out slow. While trying to finish our ice creams, it started melting, and we tried asking for a cup for our taiyaki. However, all four workers disappeared from the front, but as we were leaving they did come out and were friendly as they thanked us for coming. Overall, I think the ice cream base here is not as creamy as I typically like, but the taiyaki itself was good.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Had an amazing experience, workers were nice and friendly. BUT THE ICE CREAM THOUGHHHH. I tried the new flavor sweet corn and it is so addicting. Very good and just as you would imagine it. Will definitely be coming back for more!

Renée P.

Yelp
The place to go for taiyaki-a Japanese as well as many other Asian countries, dessert in the form of a fish. They are cooked on a waffle iron and filled with yummy fillings. You can also get a crunchy version which is a cone fish and they will fill it with nondairy soft ice cream. You can add toppings for free. They do have dairy options.
google avatar

Ariana G.

Yelp
They don't let you sample the ice cream... there are only 6 flavors. Texture was nice, but won't be returning back or recommending due to the no samples.

Yelp
~~~EAST MEETS WEST IS BEST~~~ WATCH THE EPISODE: FIELD DAY² MADANG PLAZA (YT:@BULGOGIBOMBER) MATCHA/THAI TEA SWIRL w/ FRUITY PEBBLES & MACAROON - It's a beautiful thing when food cultures collide. Somisomi brings an Asian twist to an American classic soft-serve ice cream and makes it feel like you're having it for the first time again. The biggest Asian heavy hitting flavors combined into one is an epic blend but swirl combos are in rotation so check in with the store to make sure they have the one you're looking for. The ice cream is housed in my favorite vessel, the taiyaki cone, a fish shaped cone that has a slight crunchy exterior and is soft and fluffy on the inside. You have many topping options to choose from so go with your tummy! It was my first time there but the staff were very patient and helpful as I struggled choosing my flavors and toppings! Thank you for that!
google avatar
Karin N.
Yelp
One of my favorite dessert shops! The fish taiyaki is the right mix of being slightly crispy and chewy on the inside. I love it with Nutella filling so that's my go to. The matcha ice cream is also great; it is not overly sweet and goes well with the warm taiyaki breading. I would mention though that this place often doesn't have strawberries or the macarons as a topping so be prepared to get the normal cereal and sprinkle dressings on your dessert. No sit in area but we didn't mind standing by the window with the high table desks. Customer service is also fast and friendly except one time when I asked for a to go box and the guy declined? Maybe he misunderstood my question but no big deal. A must try if you're in the area and craving something sweet for the summer!
google avatar
Moni T.
Yelp
I love their unique soft serve flavors, we tried ube and milk tea, both are amazing, and you can choose different toppings for your soft serve. The goldfish-shaped waffle with red bean filling on top definitely adds a special dimension of flavor and texture to the soft serve. It is such a visually pleasing and satisfying dessert. I can't wait to come back and try their taiyaki (just the waffle with fillings).
google avatar
Jenny T.
Yelp
Love this place! Ice cream 4/5 Ice cream is creamy and on point. Taiyaki custard 5/5 Soooo creamy. So good. Love it. Taiyaki taro 3/5 Good flavor but a bit too thick for me.
google avatar
Christina F.
Yelp
So delicious! I always get ube. This was the first time I got a topping - Biscoff cookie crumbles. They don't have a lot of options for soft serve flavors but what they have is high quality. They have a good amount of topping and filling options but nothing like the ridiculous candy store-like variety of American frozen yogurt places. The soft serve is smooth and the taiyaki (which I didn't get this time but I have in the past) is crunchy with a bit of a chew. It also not overly sweet like a cookie. This is one of the first places I go when I am in the area. Try it!
google avatar
Keaton D.
Yelp
Awesome dessert spot! Quick service, and friendly employees, most importantly great ice cream! Lots of options, and the taiyaki is DE-LI-CIOUS. I got the cookie butter with a custard taiyaki with graham cracker toppings and I could not eat it fast enough. My girlfriend got the cookies n cream with custard and oreo topping, which I was not as fond of. There aren't any stools, so don't expect to stay for long
google avatar
Sara I.
Yelp
Mango cream with custard fish filling was so delicious Mango cream with custard fish filling was so delicious
Nathan V.
Yelp
SomiSomi is yummy yummy if anyone asks me. My choice of weapon is the: 1. Up side down 2. Ube flavor 3. Custard filing You can't go wrong with this combination.
google avatar
Christina M.
Yelp
Taste and appearance: 10/10 Only thing which I won't even dock off a star for is the interior. It's not open bc of covid as many of sugar land restaurants are still. But besides that it's really plain and quite small. But who cares when the dessert is soooo good and the customer service is great! There was only one staff member that I could see and she kicked ass and served all of us with no problem The crispiness of the fish cone combined with the perfectly sweet and creamy soft serve is just chefs kiss
google avatar
Diana C.
Yelp
Hands down one of the best dessert places in Sugar Land! Best known for their Taiyakis and soft serve ice cream (okay, that's all they have on their menu), Somi Somi consistently delivers in nailing the spot when you are needing to satisfy your sweet tooth. I love the ube soft serve here. It's delicious and you get a good sized serving for the price. I usually like getting the soft serve alone and then a side of Taiyaki. You have the option of getting a Taiyaki on your soft serve or your soft serve in the Taiyaki, but I feel like the Taiyaki worth he ice cream isn't the same as the Taiyaki you can get separately! The Taiyaki that you purchase separately is more chewy and gooey and soft! My go to Taiyaki fillings are Oreo and custard. You can never go wrong with the custard - it's not overly sweet and has the perfect filling to chewy, hot Taiyaki ratio. The last time we were here, I had a hankering for Oreos so I chose that the Oreo Taiyaki and it did not disappoint. It is literally just an Oreo cookie in the Taiyaki - but it somehow works really well! Overall, I love going here as an after dinner treat and would highly recommend anyone stop by when in Sugar Land.
Yelp
Loved this place when I was in California and was so happy they had a store in Texas! The taiyaki was made per order so its crispy but also soft with a good chew inside. I got my taiyaki with red bean and ube soft served. Sadly my taiyaki was already made and cooled on the side so it was not crispy or warm at all. My friends ordered a box of 6 taiyakis and those were hot! Not sure if the employee took them out too early, because 1 side was tan and not as crispy. I was sad cause I was hyping this place up with my friends and it wasn't as crispy and hot as the ones I had in Cali.
Angela M.
Yelp
The kids enjoyed the experience of watching from the beginning to the end. Everything we ordered was delicious. We ate so much we couldn't breathe. Will be back for more soon.
Yelp
Such a pleasant surprise! Friend and I went for dessert so decided to try this place out. Staff was so helpful and nice. Never tried ube before but it was delicious! The little fish tastes like a combo of a waffle and mochi at the same time, really good. Milk and chocolate tastes like the typical flavors, classic goodies. Would definitely recommend this place.
Yelp
The service is okay. I got the milk tea ice cream and it actually tastes like milk tea. I just wish it wasn't as expensive
Yelp
Came here after my board exam for a sweet pick me up. I ordered the Ah-Boong in a cup which includes soft serve in a taiyaki cone with a filling of your choice. I got the matcha with custard and a little mini macron on top. The matcha was very subtle and tasted more milky than I am used to. I really enjoyed getting to pick different cereal toppings on my ice cream and seeing the different colors pop on the dessert itself. When I went there was only one worker and he was very patient with me when I was trying to decide what to order. They have a lot of great Asian inspired flavors like ube, milk tea and matcha. I believe the switch out the flavors every so often so it's a great way to try new things. The store itself is a little small but they have a little ledge you can stand at. They do however have a seating area outside with some fairy lights but I'm not sure about sitting there in this Texas heat!
Yelp
This ice cream is delish in the pastry fish BUT if you did not like your first French kiss, this is a set up for a flashback. Not that it stopped me. I just paused a long bit. The prep is not consistent. My first prepped one was by a youngish man, and his prep made Somi Somi a clear delineation from other ice cream places. I was sold on it. The other two prep people were a younger woman the second time, and then an older woman the third time. Their prep did not make this soft serve its own kind of stand out special soft serve. Just a soft serve with waffle. Albeit, a yummy ice cream in good flavor and texture. Now the French kiss, since it could possibly bring an unpleasant, or intrusive flashback. If, at some point, you lift that waffle fish out and go for biting the soft-serve filled mouth --that's when the unexpected flashback happened for me. I was so looking forward to that spongy waffle with slight crisp edges wrapped around the soft serve --like when you get to the bottom of a cake cone, but even better. Another childhood dream come true. But the darn wide open mouth was suddenly coming for me, rather than me coming for it. (And mutuality would have been a weird feeling too. I may not be vegetarian these days, but I don't like food anthropomorphized while I'm eating it!) So just prepare yourself. Unless you enjoyed that first approach to a French kiss -- then never mind. Back to the best prep so far... The guy filled the fish, not just the cup, and made certain to put enough topping. I chose toasted coconut! Mmm! The soft serve is not too sweet, it is dense enough, and creamy enough too. The toasted coconut sprinkle is all I have tried. It is remarkably even in cut and brownness. Like an OCD foodie panel was involved. On the other two visits... The second person barely filled the fish. The third person didn't fill the fish at all. So the pastry fish just became like a garnishing. It was disappointing, actually. Yes, I was sad about that one. And the topping was nearly nil those last two times. I was like, "Why did you even ask me?" That first experience of soft serve in the pastry was so good that I will not give up.
