"Camden knows what you’re thinking: This isn’t his first fried chicken place. Back in 2015, Camden and his then-partner Katie Poppe closed a fried chicken shop on Southeast Division called Son of a Biscuit." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Nice decor and the staff were very nice. The wait was reasonable. O my, I wanted to love it but ewww. All three sides that I tried were actually gross (mashed, mac and biscuit). The breading on the chicken was fine, not great but not bad. I ordered a two piece white meat with one piece spicy and the other not. The way they create the spicy is to dip the piece of fried chicken in hot sauce. I thought the breading would be different but I just got a very soggy piece of vinegar ridden meat. The sweet tea was the worst I've had. It tasted like sweet potato. Is that a thing? Sweet potato tea?

THE Biscuit was excellent. The chicken was good. It took awhile to get the food, but overall was okay. I would definitely go back for the biscuit. I would love to see a boneless chicken option on the menu. The sweet tea was kind of weak. The Mac-n-cheese needs some work :(

I really dislike doing this 'cause its tough being in the restaurant business. But sometimes you just gotta warn people. I love fried chicken and after passing this place so many times I stopped in. I can deal with the $10.50 price tag for a 2 piece white meat considering this isn't a chain. Here's what I got: - 2 pieces of chicken that were SO GREASY it was enough to make you never want to see oil again. And what I can only assume was enough paprika in the breading to stain your fingers red. I took a bite and that was it for me. - Cole slaw that looked and tasted like someone had just mowed their lawn and thrown some vinegar on it - A biscuit that would have broken my foot had I dropped it. However pretty tasty. Really guys, you need to regroup. It wasn't even a valiant effort. It was terrible.

Chicken was decent, but nothing outstanding. The seasoning seemed like a prepackaged mix. Quality prepackaged, but prepackaged nonetheless. Sides were just meh except for the beans. They were quite delicious. The decor is simple but clean, prices were fair, and the service friendly and quick. I would say 3.5 stars. Good, but not amazing. Just like this review.

This place is really busy. We had to wait for seats after ordering. Got the spicy fried chicken, which comes like hot chicken with white bread and pickles and sides of cole slaw and mac and cheese. I liked the super crispiness of the chicken, but it could have been spicier. The meat was juicy though. The sides were okay: I liked the vinegar-based dressing on the slaw instead of mayo-based, but the mac and cheese lacked flavor and the cheese sauce was too thick. I thought the tall biscuit was perfect though--buttery and flaky. The chicken is worth it to make subsequent visits!

I'm not sure this restaurant is aware what town they're in. The reason I say this is because sustainability does not seem to be a priority for them. The jam comes in little individual packages, the water cups are plastic disposable ones, and there's no recycling. If so little attention to detail is given to being sustainable, it makes me question the quality of their ingredients. Where does there chicken come from? The potatoes for the fries? Important questions, especially in a town that holds those values in high regards.

I've been here 3 times and the biscuits are pretty good. Different from anything else in Portland - sweeter and almost cake-y. My biggest criticism is the music is always WAY TOO LOUD. I've been in clubs that weren't as noisy. It might be takeout only from now on...

I'm sad to see son of a biscuit go. The food was good(biscuits & chicken especially). Staff was friendly (especially for the neighbor hood). I hate to be a realist but its southern style food its gonna be a little greasy! Maybe if u had a veagan fried chicken, u might have made it in SE?
