How FB Society Is Developing Some of DFW’s Most Successful Restaurants | Eater Dallas

"Born as the first successful export from the group's food-hall experiment, this slider/burger concept emerged after an initial vendor (a well-known chef running a burger stall) saw sales and quality decline and was asked to leave; Gibbons says he had originally “recruited him, thinking there wasn’t a better guy to run a burger stand.” Bored with burgers and intrigued by White Castle–style sliders, the group developed a compact, hall-friendly concept that could graduate into a standalone success. The story underscores the group's use of food halls as creative incubators and the informal inspiration the original chef provided: “When you think about how the food hall thought about him, you know — I like him, he’s an interesting guy to have a beer with.”" - Courtney E. Smith

Amazing, tasty, and fresh food! Very amazing quality beef! The strawberry lemonade is perfect, not too sweet, but perfect! The mini burgers are perfect for Legacy Hall to be able to walk around after and try more food! The sauce on the burgers tastes amazing with the beef used. Perfect pairing! I forget his name but he looks familiar and young, go support him and that business! Sorry for no photos, I devoured the food before thinking about the pics, it’s that tasty!!!

Ordered a All American burger and a Burnt End burger with a side of onion rings through door dash. Food was delivered with express care. The Onion rings were big but lacked even bigger flavor. It was crispy but I imagined having COVID and not being able to taste anything but still feel the texture that’s what eating those are like. The All American burger was delicious tender bread soft and warm but again it had no seasoning on the meat. I mean the flavors were pulling through with every chew until I got to the meat it was a disappointment because the burger was so good. But anywho the Burnt End burger tender soft warm flavorful until again you get to the meat. I give this place a 7/10 strictly because the onion rings batter needs to be revamped it’s disrespectful to put those on the side of a burger so good. And also because the meat needs seasoning.

Delicious!! I got a simple cup of waffle fries with cheese and brisket. It was tasty!! The brisket had a wonderful flavor. The cheese was yummy! The perfect amount bbq sauce and cheese in the small cup. This was only $6 and that price is fantastic for the amount you get. I would get this again!! Great job Son of a Butcher!

Stopped in Legacy Hall an grabbed a bite to eat. This place is amazing and worth the stop. I love that this place is around so many other great eateries so you can get whatever your are craving. This place hits it out of the park though. I would recommend trying everything on the menu!

I'm always weary of restaurants that open in food halls and this was no different. Got two sliders and fries. The fries were overcooked and very dry. The sliders were decent but the bun was cold and untoasted, and toppings were just okay. Didn't seem the most fresh but the meat itself was good. Overall, just pretty disappointing.

Google
Lemonade was really good. Onion rings were nice and big. Very flavorful. Onion to batter ratio was perfect. The beef sliders were very good. Worth a try.

Went here for lunch and it was fabulous! The cashier was super nice, ordering was easy. The sliders were great! The buns were warm and soft and the burnt ends were cooked perfectly. The onion ring portion was huge for the price and super crisp, served with ranch. The strawberry lemonade was fresh and delicious. Can’t wait to order more!

Google
I didn't like what I ordered but Awesome burgers!! Generally I don't like sweet sauces and condiments on meat. I ordered the Frenchie and the Popper and they were both super sweet( Way too much Fig and pepper jam ). However, the quality of burgers, buns and the waffle fries were incredible. 2 sliders and one order of waffles fries were more than enough to fill me up( a woman). The patties were juicy, big, melt in your mouth and cooked to a perfect medium temp. The waffle fries were the best I have ever had. Again, not a fan of sweet and I might order a different slider next time but these were quality bites, I can't take a point off just because I don't like sweet burgers. I say go for it!!

Yelp
I was looking for a solid burger spot in the Carrollton area and came across this place on Yelp. The thing that caught my eyes most were the shakes and the PB and J slider on their menu. One of my foods back home was this burger called the PBJ Burger however that restaurant closed down so seeing this on any menu made me really excited. This place is located inside of a building next to a bunch of other restaurants, kind of like a food court/ bar type vibe. There is a lot of seating but they also have like a quick eat stand up bar to the side of their restaurant where you can eat. The girl on cash register was very patient and friendly. I chose the three slider sampler option and opted in for the All American Wagyu slider, PBJ slider, and the popper. I also got the loader brisket fried and the cookie butter shake. All were exceptionally delicious and juicy. The brisket fries did not let down either. They were crispy and flavorful from the brisket and other toppings. The cookie butter is do die for. The cashier made this shake like she was making it for herself. The most perfect shake ever. Presentable and tasty.

Yelp
SOB Portion size was ridiculous. I ordered a.snack, a half & half fries & onion rings,$3.50 What I received was shocking , see pic I would have rated Son of a Butcher less than a 1 star, if that were an option

Yelp
I have no idea if the owner is a son of a butcher, but they are a son of a bitch for having the balls to serve this garbage. Food in Texas is dismal. Every time I try another "restaurant," they take the quality lower. This place is in a food hall. Food halls are nothing more than a hipster's idea of a Thruway rest stop. There are a lot of rest stops along the NYS Thruway that have better food options. For this mess, I ordered two sliders and onion rings. The onion rings are big, thick, bland and not appealing. Mine were also served cold. Or as the French say "froid." The burgers were also cold, and pink. So, if you want your burger cooked, you have to tell them. Maybe you also need to specify that you want the food hot. I didn't know it was an option. There is nothing special about these burgers. They are served on a potato roll. I could have went to Shake Shack. I could keep writing, but essentially, these are garbage. The service is dreadful. It's indicative of anywhere else in Texas. Simple conclusion - avoid.

Yelp
Just ok. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was really excited to try them out. Their brussel sprouts were delicious though!

Yelp
I had SOB down in lower Greenville years ago, wasn't that impressed, and haven't had it since. Was walking around Legacy Hall and saw some getting served up and thought dang that actually looks good. So I gave in and was pretty impressed. I'm not into gimmicky things but the PB and J slaps! The Haystack and Popper were also good. The half and half were ok. Nothing to really write home about, I really did like their sweet chili brussel sprouts but if I could do it over again, I'd ask for them with less sauce. I'd go back.

Yelp
The first restaurant that caught my eye when I visited Legacy food hall! There's a lot of other stalls and the place was fairly busy on a Sunday, but we got seating near the TVs showing NFL games, which was a nice bonus. The menu was straightforward and easy to navigate - you can pick and choose your types of sliders and sides, got to try a 3 slider combo. Really like the idea of wagyu sliders, the brisket one and the pb&J were all pretty good, great mix of flavors. The waffle fries were crispy and served at the right temperature. Sliders are a bit small so you can knock these out in a few bites. Overall, service was fast and a solid place to grab a quick bite if you don't want to wait for some of the other spots in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Highlights are the Brussels sprouts and the oyster Rockefeller slider - Not the biggest fan of the burnt ends or the wagyu sliders. Loaded fries were also OK Definitely should've tried the classic / cowboy, seemed like the perfect slider options. Don't get lost trying to find this place! It is located in the food court at legacy hall. Finding a table might be a bit difficult during peak hours as there are many other stalls

Yelp
So very disappointed in my order last night which I took one bite and tossed. Tried calling the Plano location with no luck. Also this morning and no answer. It took over an hour to get a full refund from Door Dash last night. Wanted to ask questions about the different sliders I saw on great reviews but as I said no one answered the phone. Assuming they're super busy most of the time. I added a picture of my first order which was great so here I go again for another attempt for perfection. I think my first review in the door dash didn't come here. But it was fantastic 6 STARS Feb 1st order @ Delivery order 11:04am: Kinda surprised still it wasn't like my first order- No on the Smokehouse NEXT . It was dry but a little pink in the center. No one answers the resturant phone either. Guest I have to review on Yelp to get a response from them. Didn't see the burnt item everyone said was good thinking it's not on the delivery items on door dash. Kids are in town this weekend so hoping we can do to the Plano location because again my FIRST delivery order from here was fantastic. if it's the cook on my first order he/she needs to work ALL shifts‍‍‍

Yelp
This was amazing brisket! And honestly I'm not even a fan of brisket but this here I will make sure to stop by and order whenever I'm in the area.

Yelp
I love these little sliders! They are a perfect one to two bite size and super flavorful!! I got the Classic and Burnt Ends and my personal favorite was the Classic. Service was a quick and easy process. Because its located inside the Legacy Hall, the vibe is very chill, loud but

Yelp
I was excited to see this place when we meet up at Legacy Hall for a large event. I ended up ordering the 3 slider meal and went with the Burnt Ends, TX Philly, and the PBJ. The TX Philly while good, could not keep up with the flavors bursting from the Burnt Ends and the PBJ. The Burnt Ends had a great mixture of flavors between the Gouda, burnt ends, and beef that made me wanting to go back for another. The surprise winner was the PBJ. While I have had other burgers with both peanut butter/bacon and peanut butter/jelly, this one had the perfect mixture. The use of blackberry jam with the bacon and grilled onions made this both a savory meal and almost a desert in one. The blackberry gave it more flavor and not as sweet as grape, which helped it not overpower the burger and become a sugar overload. I will be ordering multiple ones of this next time as it has become one of my favorite wild burgers to crave.

Yelp
I came here last Wednesday and loved my sliders! I ordered the Classic, Burnt Ends, and the Cowboy (I believe), with a side of waffle fries. Everything was really good! The sliders were excellent and fries were the right temperature and texture! I ordered my food, went to the bar to get a drink, and as I was signing the check for my drink, my order was ready for pickup. I highly recommend Son of a Butcher! Also, the name choice is superb!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite food places at Legacy Hall in Plano, love their fries and wagyu burger, they bring to any table there too if using QR code on the tables. Staff is friendly but sometimes can be slow due to a lot of food traffic there.
google avatar

Yelp
The brunch sandwich was so good-tasted really fresh and the eggs were fluffy. I loved the buns they used, they were so tasty. They were super fast and the employees were nice. I got my sandwiches in less than 5min. The ambiance of The Box Garden was nice as it was not that crowded on a Sunday. It's also really clean here. I would definitely come back!

Yelp
We wanted to try something different so we came here. Personally, we're not big on sliders. Taste wise, there was nothing special about the food. Got the classic, was very ordinary. Glad we tried it cuz now we know. But won't have it again. Sliders (that taste very basic) aren't for us.
google avatar

Mary T.

Yelp
Got 2 sliders. The Philly and the burnt ends. Both are good The Philly had a tiny little kick to it but a little on the dry side. I probably would ask for extra sauce on the side. If you have a big appetite opt for 3 sliders. Brunt ends had a really good smoked taste and was tender. Would order this again ! Waffle fries were nice and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside
google avatar

Helene D.

Yelp
Sliders itself was delicious! The waffles fries was bad--over fried and staled, as if they reheated it up. Took about 10 mins to get our food. Legacy hall is very loud but love the vibe! Great place to eat/hang out or quick lunch
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this place after a good rock climbing session with my friends and I ordered the vegetarian sliders because my other friend is vegetarian and i wanted to try it. You literally could not tell it was even vegetarian. It was so savory and juicy. My friend and I devoured it. My other friends ordered the hamburger sliders and they ate it pretty quickly too. Service was self serve, place was located inside legacy hall, food court style, and it was on your left when you enter. We ordered our food and went to the court yard in the back or back yard. It's a fun setting and it's perfect for small or large parties. You gotta check out legacy hall and SOB-son of a butcher. Till then, let's eat!
google avatar

Sandeep G.

Yelp
We decided to grab dinner as we were in that area and Son of a Butcher was an obvious choice. This is one of the good choices at Legacy Hall. We got the sliders and selected the Classic and The Popper. The Popper was better than the Classic. Classic lacked seasoning but was cooked well. The sliders are manageable and are not overly stacked. The service was quick and our wait time was reasonable.

Ethan N.

Yelp
The service was fine. The ambiance, well to be honest they had nothing to do with the atmosphere considering it's a food court. The food was indescribable in the worst imaginable. If you gave me this blindfolded I would've never guessed it's a burger and honestly wouldn't have been able to tell you what it is. If you want a lackluster nothing burger this is where you go.
google avatar

Yelp
My mom ordered six different Wagyu Sliders for my family: Burnt Ends, Guac, TX Philly, Irishman, The Popper, and All American (I think). I personally didn't get to try all of them but I did have the Burnt Ends one which was divine. The sliders look so cute and tasty and everyone in my family said they enjoyed it. The meat is cooked well, presentation is nice, and overall flavor of each one is so distinct and yummy. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Located inside the Legacy food hall, the wagyu beef sliders on the menu caught my attention right away. What a great way to try the different flavors with 3 sliders for under $15.  I decided on the PB&J, Burnt Ends, and the classic.  Have to admit the Burnt Ends and the classic were a bit dried. The standard cooking is medium but I ordered it medium well.  However if you love PB&J, this is your slider!  The combination of sweet and savory definitely hit the spot.  It was delicious! I would eat a whole burger of just this flavored!

Yelp
Hello Linda's, You know the drill if I'm here writing a review then it was either awesome on all levels from the food to the customer service or it was a hot mess. This was my first time eating at Son of a Butcher and I can say that my emotions are mixed like Carl Thomas. The customer service left something to be desired when I placed the order. When I go upstairs to eat I realize that it doesn't taste like the onions or mayo was on my sandwich. I ate a little more to make sure that it wasn't there & I wasn't tripping. Nope, it turns out I definitely wasn't jumping the gun and the things that I asked for weren't on my sandwich. I decided to go back down and ask for the things missing. First they looked at me weird then checked my order. They never offered to remake it they just slid me the items like this. I had to pick up face and just go with it, because not only did it not have the things I asked for it wasn't cooked how I requested it. Now Linda's I know that I could've asked for a do over , but I didn't want them to do add anything Shug Avery-ish to it. I took my L and kept on moving thankful for the beautiful day. With this restaurant you're getting a wild card as far as customer service goes. However, I think if you get what you ask for with your food then it might be alright. If you roll the dice & eat here ,then I hope you come out better than I did.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is located inside the Legacy Food Hall. Their most popular options are the sliders and fries. There may be limited seating in Legacy Hall depended on when you go, so you should definitely keep that in mind if you want to sit down and eat the food. As for the sliders, there are a variety of burger options and I'd recommend trying out a few of them.. It's around $8.5 for two small sliders and the fries are around $3-5. So it's definitely a bit pricey for the amount of food you get. But the food is pretty good!
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
I would travel to Fort Worth just for their rosemary popovers and rosemary, sea salt butter again! Enjoyed our anniversary dinner here and we're graded with glasses of champagne, very nice touch. We did not have the steak but the sea bass is wonderful!! Service was great and the atmosphere is not too quiet but loud enough that you don't have to worry about someone hearing every word with the tables so close
google avatar

Rue N.

Yelp
Visited Legacy food hall for a tasting experience and this was one of our first spots. We ordered two trios of different types of sliders as well as a milkshake. The sliders were Waygu and you could choose wellness of the burgers and they were pretty spot on. I liked the burnt ends and Maui wowie (with pineapple!) the best, least fav was probably the classic. Got the milkshake for my niece and it was rich and decadent with fudge pieces blended into it and topped with cookies and whipped cream. Fun and tasty menu that's great for kids or adults. Price is a little higher but given the venue I wasn't shocked. Great burgers!

Justin W.

Yelp
I Ordered 5 burgers. I only received 4 burgers. Where did my fifth burger go? Lorem ipsum
google avatar

Jason D.

Yelp
I ordered 3 different sliders and a side of waffle fries which came out to around $17 before tip I believe. The sliders were juicy, but I feel like they were a little bland and could use some more salt. The Popper was really good because the ingredients in the slider complimented the burger, which made up for the semi bland patties. The TX Philly was more bland than the others because the toppings in the slider didn't add much to the flavor of the slider, but I enjoyed the cilantro in it. The Burnt Ends was alright, it was nothing special and didn't leave much of an impression to me as a whole, but the bacon in it had amazing flavor. The Waffle fries were crispy, solid but nothing special; I do wish they gave some more fries though. This place was alright and I'm not mad I tried it out, but I probably wouldn't come here again as I enjoyed other burger places more, especially considering the price.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the sliders was cooked perfect, but the other was well overcooked. The flavors though were great. Having tried a PBJ burger before at a different nearby restaurant was happy they had that option. The jalapeño popper slider was ok, not what expected. Overall food was good. The service was where everything was downhill. We placed an order for three sliders and a side of onion rings. We get to the table to wait and realized that we were rung up for brownie bites. Went back to the counter to get it corrected, we were told they were out of onion rings (would you think would've been mentioned when we ordered them the first time), guy said he would take it off the order and refund the amount. OK, cool. We go back to our table and about 20 minutes go by and we're like what the hell, these are sliders. Go back up to the counter, the guy said, somehow, the order had been removed from the system. Somehow being, he was the only one working the system so there's that. Tells us he has to put the order in again and will get it out to us. Meanwhile, this also means we have to wait for all the orders that came in ahead of ours over the last 20 minutes to be made. Another 10 minutes go by, finally food comes out. Not much apology. One screw up is understandable, but it was just back to back things here on service. Between the wrong item added to ticket, then right item out of stock, then no order...food was good but not worth the irritation.

Yelp
Love love love their sliders. This location is inside the legacy hall food court. Usually end up getting the Popper slider. It has a cheese popper in the middle of the burger and makes the whole bite so much more interesting. Service is pretty fast too. Usually is ready in 5 mins. Was so hungry that forgot to take pictures of the burger itself. Their sliders make the perfect accompaniment to the drinks from the bar. Highly recommend you give this place a try!
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
We tried the Burnt End Burger and the reason for a score of a 4 is because the burnt ends weren't burnt. Still had good flavor but wanted the burnt ends.
google avatar

Ed T.

Yelp
Pros: 1. The PBJ slider sounded funny but tasted good. Cons: 1. They don't ask how you want it cooked so you have to remember to specify. 2. The sliders (meat and bun) were too dry for me.
google avatar

Kristine B.

Yelp
First timer here! In regards to the restaurant and to Dallas. And I have to say, three sliders, an order of fries, and a fresh strawberry lemonade was a great welcome meal. They were served quickly, which was was great. Of course the PB&J slider caught my attention because I hadn't seen it in slider format, especially with meat. But it was probably my favorite of the three that I had!? The other two were the Prime Rib (my second favorite) and the American. The food was whipped up quickly, and the dining area maintained its cleanliness. The ambiance was very mellow and cozy. It was cold and had been raining a bit outside, so everyone was huddled inside causing a full house. The outside area was huge with a patio and a wall mural, and I bet that scenery would be amazing on a spring/summer night.

Yelp
We regularly visit son of a butcher at legacy hall in Plano. The food is always amazing. Consistent taste and just fab. I ordered using the online app and the service was quick. The order was ready within 5-7 minutes. The wait time was not much. I like the vibe of legacy hall. Drinks are good and son of a butcher is always on my to eat list when am there
google avatar

Richard T.

Yelp
Way overpriced and very dry burger. After having to wait 20 minutes, to get a dry burger that was very expensive I won't return. God name fit a business though.

Robert M.

Yelp
The sliders were good, but what stood out was the quality of the buns. The fries were fine but wished it came in a different container as there was not much brisket and only covered the top of the fries
google avatar

Marla W.

Yelp
Amazing Sliders- favorite is Burnt Ends - totally wonderful. Do not pass on the onion rings either. Staff is helpful and polite. Restaurant in clean. It front is cornered armed - bring your dog!

Suncica J.

Yelp
I been to this location plenty of times and always had good experience, but today I ordered 5 slider and they were took one of undercooked (raw) I took one of them and showed it to the manager and he's response was "it's a wagu that haw we serve it
google avatar

Cassie P.

Yelp
Food was good, kind of what you expect for. Burger and shake place. I wouldn't say it's the best I've ever had but it was a fun experience.
google avatar

Nikki W.

Yelp
Yummy!! I tried Umami beef and Sweet & Heat chicken with the BIGGEST onions rings I've ever seen. Finished off with a key lime shake. Was all very good. Worth finding this little gem!
google avatar

Yelp
We've been to the SOB in Greenville and while that location is their flagship and has outdoor seating, this spot at Legacy Hall does a nice job as a stop-gap measure when you're jonesing for a PBJ burger. On a recent trip the burger was juicy and well-sized for a 'slider'. The onion rings are thin and tasty, the milkshakes utterly divine, and the Legacy Hall bonus is the all-you-can-drink Stubborn sodas. Do yourself a favor and try the Root Beer, Cream Soda, and Black Cherry -- all excellent. I did notice that SOB bumped their prices in the past month which kinda bummed me out. Thankfully, parking here is free and I appreciate not having to approach the counter and ask for a drink refill (as you do at their Greenville location). Overall, a four star experience.
google avatar

Polina T.

Yelp
In my opinion, one of the better places in the Food Hall. The Classic & The Guac did not disappoint. The meat is flavorful and honestly, two sliders were more than enough for me. I would absolutely come back for some more.
google avatar

Tina S.

Yelp
My first time there was so good, the burgers tasted like chargrilled but i went yesterday and the guys were very nice, but the burgers tasted like just meat no flavor. Has something changed?
google avatar

Steffanie B.

Yelp
This place serve sliders only. I opted for and enjoyed a trio; I chose The Classic, Guac and Irish ($12.50) and a medium waffle fry ($3.50) and a sparkling water ($3). It came out to be less than $20 before tax and tip. I enjoyed this a whole lot. It was fresh. The buns were soft. The balance was there between the meat and the buns and the flavor of the toppings and patty. The only thing was their ice cream machine was broken so I could not enjoy a shake sadly with my burger - I think I would have really been in hog heaven then. Alas, I enjoyed it and would return again. The fries were really good, too!
google avatar

Kate E.

Yelp
The place is great. Haven't had a decent burger for so long. All burgers were good, but my favorite was "The Irishman" flavorful and juicy. PB&J just confused my palate :) Stop by if you're in town, you won't regret it.
google avatar

Yelp
So glad that Son of a Butcher opened and has stayed in Legacy Hall. Their sliders are 100% worth it, the nacho fries are legitimately addicting, and the agave lemonade (both plain and strawberry) are super refreshing. My girl and I go here weekly just for the nacho fries, and they never disappoint (even when they're incredibly busy). I've put so many people on to this place, all of whom love it after trying it. Definitely one of the most consistent and satisfying spots in Legacy Hall. Just a reminder, a majority or all of the vendors in Legacy Hall are cash-free, so make sure you have a card or mobile payment set up.
google avatar

Yelp
Subpar sliders. Wasn't exactly impressed as I find wagyu to have a very gamey/meaty flavor. We tried a few different ones but couldn't quite differentiate them. I wish they were cooked longer & seasoned, that would definitely make a difference! There are many great food places in the food hall so try a little from each one!
