Dine Out Vancouver 2026's MICHELIN Guide Restaurants

"A distinctive, creativity-driven take on Thai that draws on the region’s bounty, where lemongrass wings—bite-sized, deep-fried and tossed in a fragrant lemongrass coating—deliver a surprise, a savory Pad Thai vies for best in class, and northern Thai laab of tender, rich pork is lifted by tart fish sauce and lime broth with crisp vegetables, before a mango sticky rice with irresistible sticky-sweet appeal." - Michael He

"Note: This restaurant is temporarily closed. You're in for a real treat at Song (by Kin Kao), where diners come for a distinctive take on Thai dishes that aren't replicated anywhere else (well, except at their other outpost). Kin Kao Song's fare is driven by a creative spirit and the region's bounty. The lemongrass wings are a special surprise. These bite-sized beauties are deep fried and tossed in a fragrant lemongrass coating for a flavorful punch that delights. Pad Thai may seem like an obligatory order, but this savory version vies for best in class. Then, northern Thai laab with tender, rich pork is given a lift with tart fish sauce and lime broth along with crisp vegetables. Finally, mango sticky rice has that wonderful sticky-sweet appeal." - Michelin Inspector

It’s been a while since my actual visit to Song and seems like the menu has changed (which I like as they try to keep it seasonal). Place looks unassuming from the front but food is overall good with interesting cocktail options. A bit of an upscale pricing for relatively smaller plates, so make sure to order more dishes for the table. Out of the dishes we tried, the stand outs for me were the pomelo salad and barramundi chili garlic. The blue mango sticky rice was very eye-catching irl. For reference, here are the dishes ordered: 1. Pomelo Salad ($23) 2. Laab Wings ($22) 3. Barramundi Chili Garlic ($60) 4. Shishito and Mushroom Stir Fry ($28) 5. Mango Stocky Rice ($15)

Amazing Thai food in Vancouver! As someone familiar with authentic Thai cuisine, I was impressed—it was my first time trying Thai here, and everything was absolutely delicious. Flavors were bold and true to traditional recipes. Highly recommend this spot. It gets busy, so making a reservation is a good idea!😋😋

20% MANDATORY TIP FOR A PARTY OF 5. Friendly service, food is delicious. Presentation also nice. We ordered pad Thai and crab fried rice. Pad Thai was excellent flavours. Crab rice wasn’t what I expected. A little dry and lacking in umami. The mango sticky rice and the Lod Chong dessert was tdf. The drink LL cool T was also refreshing and lovely presentation. Thank you for the complimentary appetizer as we were celebrating a birthday. Will definitely be back. Went back with my family and the food wasn’t as good as the last time. A big turn-off was that I was charged a 20% tip for a party of 5. I was so surprised so I asked the server and she said that’s standard. Sorry, not coming back again. Please reconsider your tipping charges. You shouldn’t have to force people to tip that much. If we can afford to eat at your restaurant, it means we can also give a big tip. No need to put it in our face.

Had dinner at Song Kin Kao recently and overall the food delivered. We had the oysters, pork jowl, and beef curry – all flavourful, well-prepared, and solid portion sizes. Definitely didn’t leave hungry. Oysters were fresh and came with a bright, tangy sauce that worked really well. The pork jowl was rich and tender with a nice marinade — super satisfying. The beef curry was comforting and full of flavour, but at $42, it’s hard not to raise an eyebrow. I guess that’s the Michelin tax? Great dish, just priced firmly in the “treat yourself” category. Noticed the Tom Yum soup on the menu listed at $60 — didn’t try it, but that price point caught my eye. I’m sure it’s delicious and meant for sharing, but it’s still $60 for a soup, which feels like a lot no matter how you frame it. Service was friendly, and the room had a good buzz without being too loud or packed. It feels polished but still relaxed. Would I go back? For sure — especially with a group to share more of the menu. Like a lot of places right now, eating out isn’t cheap, but at least here, the quality matches the price more often than not.

Google
Sat at the bar and had the most delightful Thai food. The drinks were spectacular! Loved the taro rolls. They were delicate and airy with a sweet dipping source. The seafood curry was amazing and plentiful. The pad Thai has large shrimp and was very good. Putting on your list if you’re in Vancouver!

Google
The cocktail drinks and the Thai Chah were excellent. The wings and the the steak salad were super tasty, my favourites. We had the beef curry which was rich in coconut and the beef was melted in my mouth. The Pad Thai with pawns was delicious and the pawns cooked perfectly right. Lastly, the deep fried fish was disappointed with its texture. They had fillet the fish into cubes size. The taste is ok but each piece was so chewy not crispy but super dried. Their services were excellent everything came quickly.

Google
Pork jowl and especially pomelo salad were 👌👌👌 Crab fried rice was ok, I think it felt like pretty normal fried rice. Amazing mix of flavours, I think it was the lemongrass that added the nice sour taste. Service was great, even charged our phones for us haha

Google
We made a reservation in advance, and when we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, which created a pleasant first impression. From 5 to 6 PM, they have happy hours on appetizers, which is a nice bonus. We ordered the Tom Yum soup—it was delicious and beautifully presented, served hot with a burner underneath to keep it warm. However, we had to ask them to turn off the flame because the soup started to boil too much and even sizzle. One important tip: if you order the soup to share between two people, make sure to get a portion of rice as well, otherwise you might end up still hungry. Overall, it was a great experience and we’d definitely come back.

Yelp
One of THE best Thai restaurants I've ever been to!! Heads up though this place is really small, so book in advance. Also it's $$$ and 20% tip is automatically added for parties of 5+. We went for our mom's birthday and ordered 5 appetizers and 3 mains. It was definitely more than enough! - Thai green tea ($8)-this was the first time i've seen thai green tea offered at a Thai restaurant in Vancouver, so I had to try it! it has a very strong floral taste and wasn't too sweet -usually thai teas just taste like straight condensed milk so i was pleasantly surprised - Papaya salad ($21): papaya slices were nice and crunchy! tasted very refreshing and the peanuts on top added extra texture and a nice roasted taste - Shrimp toast ($22): THIS WAS MY FAVOURITE. bro i didnt know toast could be so GOOD. the shrimp paste was amazing, the deep fried egg yolk coating brought it all together. the buttermilk toast was soft, but not soggy. paired with the sour/acidic dip, i was in heaven. - Laab wings ($22): this was the most mid dish. they cut the wings in half. honestly, thats pretty smart cus it makes the dish look fuller. but because those pieces are tinier, i felt they overcooked it or smth. it was dry and kinda tough? but the chili lime flavours are nice - Crispy taro ($15): the rolls were packed with taro, and kinda sweet. crispy exterior was super airy and crunchy! - Grilled Pork Jowl ($24): it's slow cooked so don't expect it to be crispy. i actually really liked the tenderness and the sour/pickled sauce to dip in goes very well! - Green Curry w/ Beef Shank ($42): THIS CURRY WAS THICK AF! i loved it. usually I get disappointed with places that water it down but boy they went crazy with the coconut milk there. not super sweet and i could taste very strong beef flavour. they gave a generous amount of beef too, along with mushrooms and this other fruit/vegetable (not sure what it was but it tasted fire). it is kinda spicy though so make sure to eat it with the rice - Pad thai (prawns) ($37): beautiful. I think i just really like crushed peanuts cus they elevated the pad thai to give it more structure. it was sweet, but also salty and packed with tofu and prawn. the beansprouts weren't soggy either. - Crab fried rice ($40): ALSO ONE OF MY FAVES! the crab flavour was really strong in the rice, and they give you huge pieces of crab. rice was not soggy and also tasted pretty garlic like. deep fried crushed garlic was also mixed in i think so i loved it! and the dish was huge- we almost didn't finish. The waitress was also lovely and very attentive to our table, she took the time to explain each dish and its components. really knew her stuff!

Yelp
Finding this place was a little bit tricky as the restaurant is super unassuming. You could walk by it every day and not even know it was a restaurant situated right in front of the EAST Broadway bus stop. Let me tell you though, if you love Thai food, you cannot miss this place. Every bite was sensational and it will take you on an Asian journey of tantalizing delights. While the restaurant itself is a bit crowded as you're seated back to back with other guests, you'll soon be more focused on the food rather than the insanely loud volume of the patrons who seem to love yelling at the top of their lungs. If you're looking for an intimate romantic dinner date, you might be in for a disappointment. But if you're looking for top quality Thai food, this has to be my #1 place in Vancouver.

Yelp
Song by Kin Kao absolutely deserves its Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition (2022-2024). We arrived right at opening and were lucky to grab two spots at the bar without a reservation. The service was friendly and attentive from start to finish. We shared several dishes and they were all fantastic. The Laab Wings were crispy and packed with bright lime and herb flavor. The Papaya Salad had great balance and freshness, not too spicy but full of character. The Pad Kra Pao Beef was the standout: incredibly tender, slow-cooked beef with shishito peppers and just the right amount of heat. The Pad Thai with Prawns came with four huge prawns and a rich, sweet-savory sauce, a comforting classic done perfectly. Everything was beautifully presented, portions were generous for sharing, and the atmosphere was lively without being loud. Highly recommend trying both a classic and something new from the menu. Wonderful food, great energy, and well-earned accolades - we'd eat here again in a heartbeat.

Yelp
I came here with my sibs and one of their friends. The server was very patient and helpful with great recommendations about dishes as one of our group is GF only and strict. It is one of the reasons e came as they have GF and V options. All the food and their spirit free drinks are great. The pomelo salad was fresh and tasted amazing; it made us feel like we were in Thailand having an authentic meal. The soup and pad Thai were both excellent and authentic. Jumbo prawns were so juicy and big. The green curry was like a hearty stew with crispy lime leaves and the LL Cool Tea and Thai iced teas paired well. We were way too full for dessert. The place was very busy but not noisy. They have free standing tables as well as booth style seating. It was comftable and roomy for our party. Sorry but my phone died so I couldn't get any photos ...

Yelp
Just the best Thai food, ever. No restaurant more deserving of all its awards. The pomelo salad was so special. It was straight up pomelo and nuts and some sauce, and you spoon it into a leaf. Mmmmm. Best chicken wings on this planet. I think they split the wings in half before cooking, which I think everybody should start doing. I feel like my only qualm with chicken wings is having to deal with the two bones. Here, I only had to deal with one bone each time. The wings were a little spicy, a little sour, a little peppery, and just divine. I'm deeply passionate about fried rice and have terribly high standards for any fried rice. This crab fried rice tho. Holy fragrant and just crispy enough. Flavors further elevated by the cilantro sauce on the side. None of us have ever liked pad Thai. This pad Thai will forever live in my mind. How did they do that. The noodles were soooo fresh and not too sweet or sticky, which I feel pad Thai tends to be. Added pork jowl, def recommend I never go for Thai curry, but this green curry changed me. Very spicy and crazy flavorful. The beef broke off so easily, so tender. Mango sticky rice was terrific as always Fantastic service and ambiance!

Yelp
Came here for a birthday dinner and I love the decor and atmosphere. We made reservations so were able to get a table easily. We got the laab wings, pork bowl, fried rice, salad, and a stir fry. While delicious, the prices are quite expensive for the portions we got. Service is professional and friendly. Street parking is available on the side streets.

Yelp
Came here for a quick dinner. The waiter is really kind to let us in ten minutes before last call for kitchen. We ordered quickly for a quick dinner. The pad Thai only comes with tofu at $29. So we added on prawn. I really enjoy the quality of the prawn add ons, which is additional $8 dollars, fresh and tender. The stirred vegetable is good, but feels a bit too spicy for me. Had a harder time getting more water, because they were busy. These two dishes we paid more than $70 for it, it does feel pricy. Overall, good quality food, just on the pricer side.

Yelp
Thai food is my favorite cuisine and I was so excited to try out the menu at Song now that they've reopened. Happy hour was great, we ordered almost everything on it. The cloud over Siam mocktail was one of the best drinks I've ever had, I loved that it was inspired by tom yum soup. The oysters were fabulous, so many flavors in one bite! The happy hour steak salad had a generous portion of meat, which was unexpected, but greatly appreciated. The pad kra pao had fillets of beef instead of the typical ground beef, which was different, but so tender and succulent, and the shishito peppers added a welcome kick! Service was so friendly, they even left us a note for our anniversary!

Yelp
An unassuming-looking gem of a restaurant. Popped in on a whim early on a Friday night and was seated at the bar. I imagine it gets busy later - it should, the food and drinks are truly excellent. Service was exceptional. Food came out quickly and with great attention to detail. The servers and bar staff were knowledgeable and clearly know their craft. *Food* Fanny bay oysters - Quite the treat. A good amount of spicyness and a bit of crunch on top for texture. One of the better oysters I've had in a long time. Garnished for you so you're not guessing on the right amount to add. (Oysters are $9 for happy hour, $12 regularly) Shrimp toast - comes with 3 pieces and a sauce for dipping. Fun and flavourful, but quite heavy. If solo or not super hungry, I'd say get the oysters. This is more of a share plate. Seafood curry - a medley of seafood that comes with jasmine rice. The king prawns were the highlight. Not overly saucy and quite spicy. The dish is good, but i wouldn't get it again. The Pad Thai and Crab rice are two of their more popular menu items and likely better (though also heartier). Portion sizes are generous. You won't leave hungry, you may leave with carry out containers. They have an incredible sounding tasting menu for $75pp. Will try this next time I go. *Drinks* Cocktail - Tried the "Moonlight in Krabi"l. Fun and fruity, not as smokey as I was expecting but very vibrant and quaffable. Beers they have on draft, all local Pilsner - Steel and oak IPA - Strange fellows French blanche - 33 Acres Loads of dishes still to taste test that looked great on other people's tables - will be back soon to ease the food envy!

Yelp
Solid Thai food, though perhaps more ostentatious than delicious. I've been twice now. First time I just ordered one a la carte curry and it was fine. Second time my friend and I got the tasting menu, which was also good but not as good as I'd been hoping. The meat is cooked well and everything is pretty good but relatively forgettable. I've had deeper flavours from some much more unassuming (and cheaper) Thai takeout places. Drinks were good and service was attentive. Ambiance is hip and cozy - could dress up or down. Overall, more of a 3.5 star, mostly because I feel the value isn't there if I've had better flavours from places that cost half as much. It's still good, and I could be convinced to return and try something else on their menu.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for some delicious Thai food, Song never disappoints! The servers are super helpful give great recommendations on what to order. There's tables as well as bar seating which is great. For starters we got the shrimp toast, which was so nice and crispy, as well as the Laab wings. These were very flavourful! We then got Crab curry for our main, which came with rice. We loved it! Overall a great experience and can't wait to go back for another meal!
google avatar

Rosalyn M.

Yelp
I went with a party of 6 for a birthday. We got the tasting menu and every dish was excellent. To start off I got the Cloud over Siam non-alcoholic cocktail, which was pink and refreshing. The coconut foam on top took it to the next level and I will have to go back to get this again. The dishes came out well spaced out in timing and the servers presented each dish with knowledge and passion. The flavors were worthy of their Michelin bib gourmand and each was beautifully plated. I would say it was Thai food in essence but definitely a modern-elevated take. Their use of colorful ingredients and edible flowers make each dish a feast for the eyes and worthy for the gram. I've had several tasting menus in the city and for the price, value and experience, this place tops the list. It does get busy so I'd highly recommend a reservation. I would definitely would return and try more things.

Yelp
Every time I'm in Vancouver this is on my go to checklist. My suggestion is to go with friends and order family style so that you can order as many things off the menu because everything is SO good. The chicken wings are my favorite amongst the starters - the sweet and tangy flavor combo is chefs kiss I also love the red curry duck, super tender meat that falls off the bone. Additional menu faves include the stir fry pork belly w/ gailan, northeastern thai style steak, papaya salad, and the coconut crème brûlée! The service was great, there were actually a few people who tended our table so we were taken care of very well. One thing was that it was pretty hot & stuffy inside despite them having the AC on full blast, but the food makes it all worth it.

Gwen N.

Yelp
We were seated at the bar for dinner since we made a last minute reservation. We got 4 dishes to share between the two of us, including dessert. It ended up being the perfect amount. Our favourites were the crab salad, which we thought was pretty unique and the whole fried fish, which was crispy and fried perfectly. It also came already deboned, making it very easy to eat in the dim lighting. The dessert wasn't too sweet and a good ending to the meal. Service was very attentive. The small space felt cozy and not too loud, perfect for conversations.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to eat nearby, and we found Song by Kin Kao just by chance when using OpenTable. I remember having tried Kin Kao (on Commercial) before, and remembering liking it, but not totally wowed by it either. I figured the experience would be about the same. But I was wrong. Even thought it was relatively late (8:30pm), the place was still packed. I was surprised it was so busy. We reviewed the menu and tried the following: - Laab Wings - Incredible. I've had a lot of good chicken wings, but this was probably the most original preparation I've had to date. The wingettes are separated out, making it easy to snack on. And the flavour has an incredible punch. At $20, it's expensive, but thought it was still worth it. - Crispy Tofu - OK. Decently prepared, but eating alongside the wings, if almost felt like the tofu had no flavour. - Green Mango Crab Salad - OK. Different, but didn't feel very cohesive, and certainly not worth $35. Probably the one dish I wished I didn't order. - Grilled Pork Jowl - Very good. I really like pork jowl, and they executed it well. - Crab Fried Rice - Excellent. Again, at $40, it seems outrageously expensive, but it's some of the best fried I've had in a long time. Properly made in a wok (I assume), great flavour, good serving size. Service was good - attentive and friendly No complaints at all. Overall a nice surprise. Even though all the dishes weren't a hit, the Laab Wings and Fried Rice were both outstanding in my mind - dishes that would make me want to go back. Service was good, and although not cheap, their portion sizes are quite generous. I only realized a few days later that they had won Silver (2nd) in Vancouver Magazine for best Thai, which I think is well deserved.

Yelp
One of the best Thai meals that I have had outside of Thailand. All of the little details were just right - betel leaves for the salad, the splitting of the wings prior to frying, the succulence of the pork jowl and the way it's sliced so thinly, oof... I could go on and on. The food is so. Good. The service is also excellent: glasses were consistently filled, dishes arrived piping hot at the table, explanations of each dish when they were dropped off, the friendliness and warmth of the servers themselves - it all contributed to a casually spectacular meal. The sum was greater than its parts. We loved this place and will be back to try all of the menu items that we missed (here's looking at you, Tom Yum Soup).

Yelp
We had a fabulous time at Song by Kin Kao! We tried their Daily Fanny Bay Oysters with spicy sauce, which was a fantastic start! The Grilled Pork Jowl with their spicy jaew dipping sauce was so tender and unique. The Deep-fried Lemongrass Wings were bite-sized and super tasty, topped with lemongrass for a special flavour. The Crispy Tofu and Pomelo Salad were great too. The Pad Thai with Tiger Prawns was pretty good, with many flavorful ingredients. The night's highlights were the oysters, grilled pork, and lemongrass wings. We were impressed by the presentation and the unique atmosphere. Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: 5/5 Kids: 4/5 Yay! Price: $150+ for two Presentation: 4/5 Parking: Paid Street Parking but free parking in the neighbourhood on Scotia Street. Tips: * open for dinner only. * won Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand award 2022 and 2023. * have beautiful cocktail menu; can check the food and drink on their website www.songyvr.com Would I Return: Yes ‍

Yelp
Yum! Such a delicious spot for Thai food. We got the Song set menu with the Tom Yum soup ($78 per person). Shared dishes selected by the kitchen. A delicious amuse bouche and oysters to start. Loved the nam Jin sauce. Next up was the pomelo salad - super refreshing. The shrimp toast was my absolute favorite - highly recommend. Tom yum prawn soup was a huge hit too - I sadly ate half a pepper and it was way too spicy for me haha. Onto mains - mushroom stir fry with silken egg and duck confit curry. I loved the yellow curry with the rice. Lastly was dessert - bua loi with a little happy anniversary sign. Loved the taro, yam and coconut in this. Be sure to make a reservation!

Yelp
Walked into an empty spartan restaurant furnished in mordernish minimal furniture, of a oh hum we are of a normal boring vibe. Our hostess asked "do you have a reservation." We replied "we do not" as per their website 'we do not take reservations'. "Ok then, will the bar work?", suggested the hostess. I asked "there is not a single table available?" "No unfortunately we are fully booked" she replied. Okee. Alright already then. It was weird to see a Thai restaurant that is completely staffed with non-Asains/Thais maybe with an exception of one Asian server while the back of the house /kitchen / maintenance were all minorities. Typical snobbery places I vehemently avoid. As the restaurant started to "fill in", I noticed the caucasians were seated at the window tables, while minorities were seated in the deep recess of the restaurant. Method seems premeditated. Racist much? Overall, food was alright. Typical Thai, nothing exceptional except the price. Bartender tells us the online menu is outdated. Current prices are much more in the person as they do not provide menus only a QR code. So that they can adapt to rising inflation. We ordered some fan favourites; wings, pad thai, and laab. Nothing special. IMO it does not live up to the hype. Just average Thai with above average prices now that they have nod from a French tire company. Incidentally as we were leaving, noticed 1/4 of the restaurant was still empty. Is there "back of the bus thing for minorities going on here"? Do not care to be back to verify.

Yelp
Maybe because we ordered almost everything on the menu, many dishes tasted quite similar and heavily seasoned. Perhaps if we only ordered a few dishes we may have enjoyed them more and found them more unique. The oysters and the crab fried rice were the stand outs to us. Both were bright and flavourful. Wings were crispy and super tasty but since they broke up the wings into 2 pieces, the portion seemed small. Tom yum hot pot was good but I didn't find it much different from other Thai restaurants. Service was good, as we were leaving the server handed us handfuls of the tamarin candies. Gotta say these candies weren't bad, a nice break from guava candies.

Yelp
I have been wanting to visit Kin Kai Song since I've heard so many good reviews about this place. I have to say I was not disappointed! Service was great from start to finish, servers were great at introducing the dishes and water was filled the whole night - we felt taken care of throughout the dinner. Ambience and decor were both nicely done. Moving onto drinks and food - everything we had were amazing! We started off with shrimp toast and pomelo salad. Shrimp toast was perfectly breaded and paired so nicely with the pickled cucumber/onion. The pomelo salad was surprisingly pleasant, it was sweet and tangly. For the mains, we had the pad Thai with pork jowl - the pad Thai itself was one of the best pad Thai I've had, the noodles were so bouncy. But the star was the pork jowl, I highly recommend ordering it with the pad Thai, or it can also be ordered as an appetizer by itself. We also had the duck confit curry which was another great hit. I never knew putting lychee in curry would work, but the added sweetness made the curry tasted so unique. We ended our meal with the coconut mousse cake with mango sticky rice, the sticky rice was so yummy and the whole combination was not overly sweet. Overall, I highly recommended this restaurant! I will definitely be coming back and trying other dishes.

Yelp
The food was really good but a little too sweet (for my husband) and a little too spicy for me. Our server was great. Patient and very knowledgeable. And even when I accidentally tipped her the wrong amount, she didn't fuss at all. When I realized I had tipped way lesser than what I normally would, I generously added another $20 on top of what I had originally given. She was happy and so were we! All the staff very friendly. We arrived about 25 minutes earlier and our table was ready! Pad Thai = very sweet (3 stars) Ribs = flavourful but a little too spicy (4 stars) Oysters = excellent (5 stars) Wings = really great (4 stars) Total cost = $102 (excluding tip $26) Seating = a little too crowded and not very comfortable. Decor = like the wooden/rustic theme and vibes We'd like to come back again, soon! Thank you for your hospitality and a cool dining experience.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible authentic Thai with some twists. Love this place. Vegan green curry and Thai chili tofu were great veg options. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Me and my best friend had a FANTASTIC time here. I live for the modern aesthetic and ambiance of the restaurant. The darkness of the restaurant gives it a perfect vibe to the place. It is not like a romantic place, but it is like a hang out with a group of people for dinner. A fantastic place to just hang out with friends and a great place for a dinner date as well! I came here with my friend to try out this sister restaurant of Kin Kao. I was happy I put a reservation for the night because it was PACKED! I wasn't expecting to see how trendy this place was. I love the service of this place as they are extremely personal and the people who brought out the food explained each and every dish~ I started the night with a proper Thai Ice Tea, and omg, the orange of the Thai Ice Tea lit up the place, even with the low lighting, I could see it on other tables of the other patrons. It was perfectly sweet and delicious and on top of that it gave me a good energy boost for the rest of the night. Thai Ice Tea- 9/10 Then me and my friend ordered just 3 mains for the night so we can at least feel the vibe and try out the menu of the restaurant. We ordered the following: Mushroom Stir Fry w/ Silken Egg Tofu- 9/10 I loved this dish a lot. Even for it being such a fusion restaurant, whoever the chef is, they know how to use a wok, because by the time it has arrived at our table, every bite we took through out the whole night, the mushroom stir fry was steaming hot and I loved that. The whole night, you can feel the perfect heat in the whole dish. It was amazing. The flavours were typical Thai and it was a perfect mix with the Red curry, if you want to mix. It really deserves the 9/10 for the dish. Red Curry Duck Confit- 7/10 I know for sure I have had better Duck Red Curry elsewhere, but it was a bit too thin for me and it wasn't as spicy as I wanted or expected it to be. Even though it wasn't as spicy, it was delicious. I wish maybe it was served with noodles instead of us just ordering rice. On top of that, the duck felt a little bit too gamey for my taste. Regardless they have a delicious red curry. I'll just give it a pass for this time. Pad Thai- 9/10 This was hella amazing and delicious. With the skillfulness of the chef using that wok and the flavours of the spiciness, wow this was worth it. I love a good spicy pad thai and I love how steaming hot it was with every bite. I was really happy about this dish a lot. At the end of the night, this is a place is for sure a place I would recommend and on top of that will be coming back to try out their Happy Hour menu~!!!

Yelp
Food: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 I had been looking for a good Thai spot in the mount pleasant area and heard a lot about this spot so I made a reservation for a Friday evening to come with a couple of friends. Definitely recommend making reservations as the place was packed! As for ambiance, I loved the stoneware and the general decoration of the place. The main downside was the hallway to get into the restaurant which is super narrow & makes it crowded to get in/out since everyone with a reservation shows up at the same time. The food was definitely the winner here! We got 3 vegetarian dishes to share: the tofu pad Thai, yellow curry, and Thai chilli tofu. I have to say that all 3 were amazing, probably the best Thai food I've had in Vancouver. However, I was shocked at how small the portion sizes were given how high the prices were! The curry was $35 and the other 2 were in the mid-twenties. For some reason this location is much pricier for the same/very similar dishes compared to the other location. As for service, I had no major complaints. The staff were attentive and nice, but there was a table in the restaurant being extraordinarily loud (to the point where other patrons were clearly bothered by it) and the staff didn't say anything to them which was a bit odd for a place that is in this price range. Overall, I think the food is delicious here but the prices are slightly higher than what the value is worth. I'd come here for special occasions but would first like the try the other location that has lower prices.

Yelp
We ordered from the prefix tasting menu. I quite liked the lemongrass wings, which was an unexpected starter as they were out of oysters. They followed with the pomelo salad which was novel with betel leaves. I have never before had shrimp toast and have made the decision that I will order it again if given the opportunity. The confit duck curry was impeccable (so tender!) and the mushroom egg tofu stir fry was complex and a great vegan dish. We sat at the bar and every aspect of the service was great.

Yelp
For a Michelin star restaurant the location isn't great. And you're not going for the ambiance as the small restaurant is quite noisy. But once you're seated, the dining experience begins. We got the tasters menu and was not disappointed. Such a range of flavors. Service was top notch. I'll admit I was worried about leaving full but the portions catch up with you and you leave satisfied

Yelp
PHENOMENAL! AMAZING! ON POINT! Reservations are accepted only via Open Table for max of 4 but we made another reservation for 2 and they joined all 6 of us together. Credit card also needed to reserve. Restaurant is tucked away on E Broadway near Main St. Restaurant front looks unassuming without big signs or lights we had to take a second turn to find it. It looks like a small white two story building on the outside but one floor with high ceiling inside. Ambiance is cute and modern. Staff are very attentive and service is impeccable. 20% gratuity is automatically added to parties of 5 or more. Food is phenomenal! It's WOW after WOW after WOW on every dish that came, a climax with no end in sight. With 6 of us, we ordered almost every dish on the menu. *Oysters at $10/2 pc: pricey one would conclude but the nam jim sauce topped with greens raised raw oysters to a whole new level. *Lemongrass Wings: crispy wingettes cut in half lengthwise. It's a good appetizer for sure. *Shrimp Toast: loved this. I was expecting greasy milk bread but there was no sign of bread for me. *Green Mango Crab Salad: lumpy crab, nam jim dressing, betel leaves and green mango - that's creativity and deliciousness in one bite. *Pomelo Salad: light but intense flavors all came together in this spectacular dish. *Grilled Pork Jowl: a very simple dish but packed with flavor. The sauce complements this dish in a perfect way. I'm very sensitive to smells of meats and this dish didn't have a hint. *Tom Yum Soup: served in a traditional Thai vessel, this soup has 6 large size prawns and lots of mushrooms. It's a perfect blend of spicy, tangy and salty. *Beef Stir Fry: if at all there's an inconspicuous dish tonight, it would be this. Not that it's bad but this is the plainer dish of all - small cuts of beef skirt sautéed with onion and peppers. *Crab Fried Rice: OMG lumpy crab amongst all else and a sauce equates to yumminess. Added to this, cucumber strips balanced the flavors. *Mussel Curry: I'm not a big fan of curry but the chef's rendition on this dish just changed everything. The coconut and pineapple chunks complements the curry perfectly. It is in every way the right blend. It's served with a bowl of plain jasmine rice. And yes, that's just how it should be... Desserts: *Tub Tim Grab: a version of shaved ice *Sweet Sticky Rice with Longan Fruit: flawless! More liquid than the usual sticky rice but I like this version. The rice pop and crispy mung bean added a different texture which makes it very interesting. *Mango Sponge Cake: not quite a star but nonetheless good. I can't believe there's only 17 reviews before mine. This place must be newish. This is a must try...must come back resto. Sister company Kin Kao on Commercial Drive is more casual I heard. Will hit that place soon for sure.

Yelp
Really enjoyed eating here. We tried the oysters and the pad thai. Both were delicious. What really makes this place stand out more than your average Thai restaurant is that the balance of each dish is perfect. Every bite had both great taste and great texture which you can't say about many places. It is in the pricier side, but I think it was definitely somewhere to try. Excited to go back and try their other dishes.

Yelp
Went to this place for the first time and read all reviews before going so my expectations had been adjusted accordingly. It's the kind of restaurant I would go once but probably never again? The lack of prices even on printed menus put me off. I have been to numerous high end places where only the host's menu would show the prices but this is a casual Thai restaurant! Parking is a bit of a pain unless you go after 7 pm so you have more choices on Broadway. On the plus side, nice refined presentation of dishes but did they blow me away, no. Service was ok no mean manager chasing us away when we dined from 6-8... Fried rice was our favorite. Oysters ok too... Would have been a decent place if prices were 30% lower.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place. especially with the recent Michelin hype. the good: service 5/5. no complaints. we were seated in a timely manner. the staff were all polite and friendly. service was prompt. the good ends there. needs work: the food. this place is probably more accurately described as "fusion" Thai. Flavors are muted, "spicy" dishes barely had heat, and clearly their target clientele are not those looking for authentic Thai food. I ordered the shrimp toast (waiters recommendation), pad Thai with pork jowl, and prawn tom yum soup. the shrimp toast was at best, a street snack put on a plate. basically shrimp paste on toast then deep fried. 3/5. The pad Thai was through and through mediocre. Little too wet for my taste and the noodles just ever slightly overcooked. Sauce was lacking the bold punchy flavors I expect from pad Thai. I had to also ask for more chili powder. 3/5. Tom yum soup had several large prawns and they were cooked well. But the soup itself was WAY too salty. Nearly inedible. And I was thirsty for several hours afterwards. The waiter asked how spicy we wanted it and we said to make it very spicy. Turned out medium maybe. 1/5. Maybe 2/5. Avoid this dish. i ordered an old Fashioned cocktail. Average. 3/5. pricing is expensive. I don't mind that if the food was stellar. Sadly it was far from it. There is better and cheaper Thai food in Vancouver and I prefer more authentic flavors. Parking is annoying when it's busy. You have to find street parking in the nearby residential neighborhood or hope a metered spot is available out front. I won't be back.

Yelp
This is one of the best thai restaurants i've been to in van, in terms of taste, presentation and ambiance altogether. Some dishes were on the saltier side but overall my dinner experience was on point. The pad thai was my fav dish of the night, and the best I've had in van to date. A lot of pad thai dishes can be overwhelmingly sweet and sticky, but this had a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, to saltiness. The noodles were a bit wider than traditional rice noodles which helped them absorb more flavors without being too mushy. The addition of dried shrimp gave an extra dimension of umami, while the crunchy peanuts and shrimp added more fun textures. The red curry duck confit was another memorable dish. The duck leg was fried then mixed into a luscious sweet red curry sauce. The duck itself was a touch too salty but paired well with the curry sauce. Everything went together so well with the fragrant jasmine rice. I can eat 2 bowls of it!

Yelp
Don't judge a SONG by its cover? Before stepping in and trying out this place, I read up a few reviews. Honestly, it was somewhat giving me a bad vibe on how the way and words being used by the owner in responding to customer feedbacks, a sense of arrogance or maybe a bit too defensive? Or maybe I give it a try myself to be fair? This place is located on East Broadway, across from Kingsgate mall. The outside can be misleading because the inside offers that trendy modern contemporary atmosphere with a casual vibe. There is a decent amount of pay street parking available. Greeted by the hostess and got myself comfortably seated (another small table..). Scanned through the menu and here were the food I ordered; 1. Thai green tea & bottle of coke. Nice rich and refreshing green tea. Love it when coke is in a glass bottle, they always taste better in a glass bottle! 2. Pomelo salad with toasted coconut & cashew nuts. Nice little blend of flavour and texture, glad the pomelo was sweet and juicy. 3. Tom yum prawn soup. It was served in a Thai hot pot. The soup was steaming hot, very rich and tasty in flavours. I always like a good soup! 4. Mussels with fresh pineapple in curry sauce. The mussels were very fresh, big and plump. The sauce accompanied it was nicely balanced and tasty enough to eat a bowl of rice with. 5. Live spot prawns stir fried with chili garlics. The stomachs in the heads were removed (nice!) the body and head were so well prepared; whiskers trimmed, heads separated from shells. The prawns were nicely stir fried and all the ingredients were in harmony with each other. Literally I can eat 2 bowls of rice with this dish. Loved it! 6. Crab fried rice. There were a generous amount of crab meats, however I find it a bit on the drier side. It's good they used day old rice to make the fried rice; it's easier to wok the rice without them clustering together or is that just a kitchen myth? Making it short and simple, freshly cooked rice is just as good in making fried rice as overnight rice, it just depends on the wok'ing skills and experiences. I know all the home cooks are probably saying, "NooOooOo......." lol chill it! I know what I am talking about =) 7. Watermelon granita dessert. Surprisingly, it was not bad, quite refreshing after a meal. Looks can be deceiving. Overall, this is a cozy little place to share some laughters and decent fusion food with a few friends. Simply put it; come in and relax to the casual atmosphere, enjoy some good food and drinks, and the friendly staffs will take care of you. To be honest, before I stepped into this place, I was thinking on how bad the service or food was going to be according to some of the reviews, but it proved to me the complete opposite; never judge a SONG by its cover.

Yelp
Delicious meal! We got the tasting menu with a lot of great dishes. We added the tom yum soup which was delicious but beware of the chilis. The shrimp toast is a must!

Yelp
I would say Kin Kao Song was the most suprising experience in Vancouver during the 7-day stay, because they really blends a lot traditional Thai foods with innovation. The Oysters are so fresh from Fanny Bay with their house spicy nam jim seafood sauce, thai chili paste, crispy shallot and micro greens. The flavors is unique and strong, with a tail of sweetness and sea. The mix of oyster and thai is perfect! Crispy Tofu I love it! Served with house tamarind sweet chili and peanut sauce. The seasoning is so great! Jaew, a masterfully complex chili dipping sauce made with toasted rice powder, plays a contrasting role alongside thin slices of delicious pork jowl. Red Curry Duck Confit is not as good as the dishes above. it is a marinated duck leg and then deep fried on a savoury, creamy red curry with lychee. The dish itself is great but considering the price of 40+ not that worth.

Yelp
We went here on a Saturday night for a friend's Birthday dinner, and let me tell you...it is literally so hard to find a good Thai restaurant in this city. HOWEVER, I highly recommend you try Kin Kao Song if you have never been. *Please note they have two different locations; Kin Kao Song (E Broadway & Kingsway) & Kin Kao Thai Kitchen (Commercial Drive). Both locations have different menus!* Every dish we had was packed with flavours and spices. The presentation was so aesthetically pleasing, and the service was great. Here is what we ordered (starting from my personal favourite at the top); OYSTERS: 2 Oysters | $10.00 Fresh oysters from Fanny Bay with their house spicy nam jim seafood sauce, thai chili paste, crispy shallot and micro greens. Definitely one of the best oysters I've had. CEVICHE SPOT PRAWNS: 1/2 Lbs | $32.00 Raw fresh spot prawns with their house spicy Namjim seafood sauce. So refreshing with a nice cilantro flavour to the sauce. Heads are removed and deep-fried. CHILLI GARLIC SPOT PRAWNS: 1/2 Lbs | $35.00 Beware, this is very spicy! But wow, delicious. Deep fried fresh spot prawns stir fried in their SPICY chilli garlic sauce. We ordered rice on the side with this, and I highly recommend the same. The rice compliments the chilli garlic sauce very well and the prawns were cooked to perfection. HOT & SOUR LINGCOD SOUP: $36.00 Note this is not the same as Tom Yum soup. A SPICY fragrant dashi based soup with fried Lingcod and young tamarind leaves. Serves 3-4. We recommend having this with jasmine rice. The lingcod was cooked well. The soup was a bit on the sour side, but good none the less. NORTHERN THAI LAAB PORK: $29.00 Stir fried ground pork, pork belly tossed in our house laab spice served with fresh vegetables, herbs and a side of tomato salsa. They recommend having this with jasmine rice, which I agree. We were warned that this is spicy, however we didn't think it was. Or, maybe my mouth was just numb from the chilli garlic prawns lol. PAD THAI: $25.00 We stuck with the classic pad Thai. I think this was a bit sweet for me and nothing outstanding to note. POMELO SALAD: $22.00 Pomelo topped with crispy shallots, shredded coconut. I think I didn't like the fresh lemongrass. Furthermore, pomelo can be a bit bitter. I think my preference is just papaya salad. We were way too stuffed and would have liked to try some of their desserts but unfortunately we were in a coma from the appies & mains. And obvi, we got their Thai iced tea which is a must. Again, as mentioned they have two locations and each location has as different menu. I would definitely want to try their Commercial Drive location as I saw that they have fried Talapia, drunken noodles and Tom yum there. PARKING: Not gunna lie, parking was a bit tough. RESERVATIONS: Yes

Yelp
My party and I decided on the chefs tasting menu. Food was excellent! My tongue got hit with so many flavours especially the Tom yum soup and pomelo salad (in like a good way). I wish could drink that soup everyday. The squash stir-fry was so delicate and flavourful; I've never had squash like this before. Highly recommend. The only dish I thought was ok was the eggplant salad which I thought the flavour wasn't as strong and the pork a little tough. Overall, come here for the food! Service was so friendly and charming. Ambiance was good. It was quite busy. Thought lighting could be warmer. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Been meaning to try this place for a while. Kin Kao Song is an awesome little place on E Broadway. Easy to miss if you don't know where the restaurant is. Parking can be found closer to the residential areas and it's possible to find free parking there. There is also paid parking as well if you want to park along Broadway. The ambiance of Kin Kao Song is light and bright. Tables and chairs are all made out of wood. The baby high chair was also made out of food. Furnished nicely. They really put some thought into their atmosphere and what they hope diners would experience when they get there. Service was good. Servers gave us enough space to eat and chat and enjoy our meal without always hovering around our table or constantly asking us if we needed anything. When we did need the attention of the servers. They were quick to come to our table. That's very noticeable and important for us. As some restaurants take such a long time to get their attention it feels like we're doing disco dance or aerobic exercise just trying to get them to come to our table. Not Kin Kao Song. Their service is pretty good. Now with that being said. When we went. They weren't overly busy. So I wonder if their service is up to par when things get a little more busy. If it is. Then that's another star added. To us. The service is just as important as the food itself. The food was good. Though quite pricey. I'm not sure if we'd come back because the price is a little high. Once in a while I think we'd be okay with. But this isn't one of those places we'd come to on a regular basis. Is the cost worth the food? In my opinion. No. But this is a nice little place to come to every once in a while. At least for us. Overall, however, we had a good experience. Our server was very nice and considerate. Made our dining experience all that much better. I'd recommend this place for sure. Just be aware of the cost. Good to share. Or it could get really costly. Food 4/5 Location 3.5/5 Ambiance 4.5/5 Service 4.5/5

Yelp
Worth the wait. This place does not take reservations. Food was amazing. Bit of a tight squeeze between tables but that's what created the ambiance. Everything was great, just got turned off when they added a 22% tip option.

Yelp
Nice to see a second location of Kin Kao, this one in our neighhourbood, with a different menu. Kin Kao is a special treat, an upscale Thai experience, with a small but well-curated menu, with plenty of vegan options. We came on a Monday evening and needed a reservation for our preference of 6:30 (there was only bar seating but that was very comfortable). They have a nice (and normally priced) cocktail menu ($14 plus tax per drink), which pleased the lady; she really enjoyed her "The Emerald" cocktail, a tequila and green peppercorn-based cocktail. For food, we ordered: -Pomelo salad ($22; made vegan without fish sauce) - I'd never tried pomelo before. The texture is like grapefruit, but perhaps not as bitter - either that or they just add enough sugar to balance the bitterness. Really beautifully textured, spiced and garnished (with shallots and shredded coconut). They also include 3 leaves that can be good for making a little wrap with some of the pomelo. Overpriced (as most dishes here are), but wonderfully curated, tasty, and amply portioned. My only minor complaint on this dish is that's a tad overly sweet. 4.5/5 -Massaman curry ($30, not a typo; made vegan) - There aren't many vegan versions of massaman curry available in Vancouver, so we had to try this, and it's a beauty of a dish. Rich, savoury, moderately sweet, and mild-medium spicy curry with cauliflower, okra, potato, lotus root, onion and some bean of sorts. The curry sauce is wonderfully balanced. A generous portion of jasmine rice is served with this. Certainly delicious, but $30 for this? I'm not sure what warrants such a price. 5/5 -Vegetable stifry ($22; default vegan) - I haven't had morning glory (water spinach) since being in SE Asia a couple years ago, and this brings back those wonderful food memories. This was everything I was hoping for in the dish. Wonderfully cooked morning glory, with a salty, dark brown mushroom, chili and garlic sauce, low sweetness, and stir fried with tofu. Honestly, this was the highlight of the meal for me. I can't get enough of this stuff. 5/5 -Pad Thai ($22; made vegan) - This is everything you hope for in a pad Thai: perfectly cooked medium width rice noodles, bean sprouts, crushed peanuts, crushed chili peppers, soft tofu (instead of egg), and coated with a perfectly balanced medium sweet and savoury tamarind sauce. Again, like the pomelo and curry, I could do with a little less sweetness, but this was still wonderful. Large portion and beautifully done. 5/5 The service was likewise top-notch. The dishes came out in a staggered fashion, which was perfect; the server always described what was in each dish when serving; and staff were attentive to refilling water glasses. If you have the $ to splurge for a special occasion, this place is phenomenal. My highest recommendation.

Yelp
YUM!! This restaurant exceeded my expectations. What a modern take on Thai food while preserving all of its traditional and original flavours. Cutting to the chase, the MUST orders are: shrimp toast, oysters, pomelo salad and mango sticky rice. I guarantee you will not regret this decision (except the pomelo salad COULD be an acquired taste). Shrimp toast is airy, fluffy perfection. The oysters are beautifully shucked and the sauce pairing is like no other. Pungent with a nice kick and zing to it! The mango sticky rice is warm and comforting and not too sweet. The perfect dessert to end the meal. The attention to detail on the mango sticky rice is convincing enough itself. The pad Thai was amazing as well. Saucy, flavourful and the noodles were nice and chewy (didn't break into small shreds like most pad Thai). I'd say it's pretty hard to be impressed by a pad Thai in vancouver but I was pleased by this one! The Tom yum soup was very authentic and fragrant however it is a bit on the pricier side ($60). Was it worth it? Im not too sure, but if you've been looking for a Tom yum that's similar to what you can get in Thailand, then this is the soup for you! The red curry duck confit was a little bit too sweet for my liking but I really liked the lychee that they added into it. Nevertheless, this restaurant is a 5/5 in my books! P.S. this restaurant definitely has a stronger flavour profile so if that might be too heavy for you, you may not enjoy it as much as I did

Yelp
A modest exterior with classy, trendy, and cozy interior. Our waiter was so nice, making sure we were taken care of regularly, refilling water, checking for any additional orders. Great food all around, our group of 5 has collectively voted the Tom Yum soup as the best, though it's $50 price is nothing to laugh off. Amazing tastes, definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
This place has got to be the best upscale Thai in Vancouver today. We had the oysters which were refreshing and delicious, the shrimp toast which I could've eaten as a main, phenomenal pad Thai which is as good or better than any I've had, and the Northern Laab Pork which is a super generous portion and great flavours. Very solid beer and wine menu, and great cocktails too. We'll be back for sure.

Yelp
Solid 4 solid authentic Thai spot in Vancouver the flavors and spices hit on all marks, it was a slight busy Sunday night during a unseasonal warm weather. The food was amazing everything tasted delicious although the banana flower salad w/ prawns was too spicy for my partner is was perfect for me, the duck confit red curry was delicious. Now the only disappointment of the night dessert... and NO it wasn't doesn't it tasted bad it was amazing but the 20+ min wait time was crazy, the bartender comp are dessert which i though was really nice

Maggie M.

Yelp
It is not topical Thai food. Too sweet. Anyway it is not worth to drive one hour to have it

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Try the Tom Yum soup it's among the best I've had. They don't take reservations so come early or come late as they seem to be very popular
