The Best Restaurants in Kensington - New York - The Infatuation
"Sonia Cafe is a cozy snack shop with a few tables, where you can sit and obsess over the extra crispy fuchka with perfectly spiced filling. The samosas and piyaju are also great, and this place makes the best chai in the neighborhood. Sonia doesn’t open until 5pm, so it’s best to visit for an evening snack." - carina finn koeppicus
Sonia Cafe - Review - Kensington - New York - The Infatuation
"A relative newcomer slightly off the main drag of Church Ave., Sonia Cafe has quickly become the go-to spot for Bangladeshi snacks in Kensington. Their samosas and piyaju are outstanding, but the real reason people come here is for the fuchka. Similar to but not quite the same as pani puri, crisp, hollow puri are filled with chickpeas, chilies, red onion, herbs, and grated hard-boiled eggs. They’re served with a container of tamarind water, which you’ll want to spoon into the puri before popping them whole into your mouth.

Good food, good 👍 place, although not too spacious enough for simple dine-in. Other than that, nothing much to fault it. At least the food is good 👍 for either dine-in or takeout. And it's quite calm and peaceful in this cafe, which is definitely a positive experience to take away from this place.

The quality of the food is not good at all, they sell a lot of old food, and smelly food, the behavior of the store employee is not good at all, he considers himself a relative of the President of America, his behavior has disappointed us very much, he has treated us very badly

I always go for the lentil pakoras and vegetable samosas. The owners know us because we always come here, and they’re always happy to see us back. On my birthday, they gave me a free special dish. I’m not sure what it was called, but it was one of the best things I’ve ever tried, and they really didn’t have to do that. They’re very generous, and the food is soooo affordable.

Our favorite desi snack place! We regularly get shingara, samosa, tea and fuchka from here. The owner is super nice and always welcomes us with a smile! Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
I wanted to try the Pani Puri and other snacks. I got an order to go and shared with my pandemic pod buddies.
We had samosas, pakora and the Pani Puri with tamarind sauce. It was a big hit!
I'll go back and try more items. The awning says they serve bagels too, which I will report on.

Yelp
Very tasty and authentic bengali food. Workers are very kind and the service is really good. The environment is nice and the workers are very happy. It's small and quaint and feels like it came straight out of bangladesh.
