Sonny's BBQ

I am in charlotte for a Cowboys / Panthers game on Sunday. Went for a drive ended up in concord and and found Sunnys. I walked in and was immediately welcomed and I even asked for Dodger game to be put on the screen which was accommodated immediately. Then Alex P. Came over and gave me the low down with her favorite selections and what to get on the side. Could not have been a more perfect meal. Ribs, smoked pork, brisket, with beans, Mac n cheese, and garlic bread. The sauce was tasty but the meat was smoked perfect. Tender and juicy with a flavor all on its own. Not to mention. Alex checked up on me often for updates and refills. Being so far from Calif it felt very homie in there. I noticed about 20 people came in and they all seemed to know everyone's name. And those that they didn't know were helped out instantly . What a wonderful staff and thank you so much all. Especially Alex even sent me out with some freshly made donut holes.I am so fat and happy. Thanks again and we'll done by all....oh, and as I said in there, my compliments to the chef / smoke master....

I am in town for a conference and we wanted some BBQ and Sonny’s did not disappoint. Everyone in our party loved their food and our server, Alex D., was friendly and attentive. This is the type of place you leave with a full belly, happy heart, and dessert to take home. Highly recommended!

Good restaurant if you want something to eat quickly. The staff are very friendly and the restaurant is comfortably furnished. It has a bit of a sports bar flair. The food and drinks were fine. Good quality and well prepared. There is plenty of parking space. Restaurant is located near the interstate.

The food here is always incredible, from wings to pork to ribs. I have yet to eat anything I didn't enjoy. As far as I am concerned Sonnys is one of the last good BBQ places in NC. The waitress was friendly and kept a good check on our table. Food came out timely and we had a really good time!

I went here on June 24th at 5 pm and had a waitress who had blonde hair who did an excellent job. She really makes people feel welcome, as well as keeps the food coming for as much as I wanted to eat. I ate and ate until I almost popped but it was an awesome experience. Food was excellent. Service was great. Haven't been to a Sonny's BBQ in so many years. And as such, I don't recall how it was priced. Today for a sliced BBQ plate with 2 sides, corn bread and a drink it was $20. Add the top and easily $23. Not sure I can justify spending that much.

My husband absolutely loves Sonnys. I myself am not a big BBQ person but I tried it anyway and it was actually delicious. Made for a good experience. We live in martinsville virginia really wish you had a sonnys closer to us.

Delicious as always. Been coming to this location since I was a kid. it’s my favorite restaurant ever. The ribs are the best!

Drive 5 hours for this meal! Love the sliced pork and baked beans. Miss the salad bar! Service was great as always!

Again, I judge based on the response to an issue. My incident involves arriving to the drive thru and being unable to pickup an online order. It gets better ... I was flat out ignored. There was no one ahead of me neither behind me and after going in to pickup the order the line remained non-existent. I wrote about and completed the survey via app to receive a prompt response from Corporate. I like timely responses. They tried to explain the premise yet the apology stood out more. The young lady at the mic could have said anything to explain once I replied but to go stark quiet is offensive. At any rate, corporate made good with a handwritten card. Call me old or sappy but this sealed the deal. I still write handwritten cards. It just means someone took the consideration and time to show care. They have won me and I'm happy to report their goodwill gesture, their attention to the matter and even the envelope is handwritten with my address.

Food outstanding. Service great. Ambiance bbq Worth going to when you are hungry for fantastic bbq

Mediocre BBQ. Service was fast but food was not great. The fries were cold. The meats were dry (even with sauces). Plenty of parking in plaza.

My husband and I went here with our baby on a Monday night for dinner and it was both of our first time. We are so glad we came!! We ordered: Peach cobbler egg rolls -- this is a dessert that comes with cinnamon whipped cream and it is a MUST HAVE. Signature baby back ribs with bbq beans, coleslaw and garlic bread. -- my husband ordered this and stated the ribs were good but the beans were the star. Our baby had a piece of rib, beans and coleslaw-- 5 stars all around from him as well. Sweet peach bbq chicken -- this is a seasonal item, I ordered this with corn nuggets (fried cream corn!) and sweet potato (comes with cinnamon honey butter already whipped together, delicious) and cornbread-- the corn nuggets were so good! I've never had anything like that before. The cornbread was also very good! I thoroughly enjoyed not only our meal but our service and will absolutely return. I'm sad it took Texas Roadhouse being crowded for us to give it a try, don't sleep on Sonny's! I'm also really sorry I didn't get pictures I was too busy eating and being so pleasantly surprised by everything.

This is probably one of my favorite places to eat ribs. For like $20 you get unlimited ribs and sides. I do miss the days of the salad bar though but I think that was removed after covid. The ribs are seasoned well and I've even been able to enjoy them without sauce but the bbq sauces are fantastic and I love that their are so many flavor options. The sizzling and the sweet are delicious and mixed together even better. I recently went and ordered a brisket grilled cheese and it was pretty good, but not amazing. The brisket was super tender and juicy but could have been seasoned a little better. I do enjoy that it was on garlic bread it gave it some of the salt it needed. As a whole I absolutely love this place and the super chill vibe

Used the drive thru. Easy to order. No wait at all around lunch time. My mom says her platter was good. My husband as well but not excited about it. Unfortunately they left the potato salad out of the bag but when I called there were no issues addressing it which I appreciated. I feel like for the price it was less food compared to other seafood spots.

My family and I went tonight for dinner for the Sonny's birthday deal- ribs a d two sides for $10.99. What a great deal and the service was just as good and fast. You could tell everyone that knew about the deal were there for it and eating it up. Great experience and dinner. Sonny's always reminds us of home , jax, fl

Love this place. First tried Sonny's BBQ back in 2018 and it has left a lasting impression. This food is amazing. Our server Jocelyn was super nice and helpful. Overall I got the three meat combo and all I can say is get yourself down to Sonny's and get some of this great food. And I'm a lifelong New Yorker!!

The food is okay. I would expect the brisket to be juicy since it's a barbecue joint but it really wasn't. The green beans are made southern style with flavor :) that was the best part. Can't really speak to the service since I had a to-go order.

I used to love this place when they had their salad bar and all you can eat sliced pork. Now that they have neither, it seems just dismal. I tried them one last time and left hungry. I won't be back

I ordered a pick 2. I was excited to find a Sonny's in Concord as the one in Charleston, SC is amazing. I was bamboozled. The mac-n-cheese is literally noodles with cheese sauce. In Charleston, it is real baked. Look at my sweet potato. This would feed a toddler. For $20, I expect more and better...UGH

Would definitely come back! Meat is delicious and NOT dry with a ton of options! Easy cheap meal and the staff is great! Not sure if what I saw on the outside is a drive-thru, but my boyfriend and I went in to sit down. Upon walking in, there is a hostess stand to your right and a to-go/pick up window straight ahead. I asked for a booth but was told no, and we were seated in the back corner of the restaurant, passing multiple empty booths...kinda disappointing, BUT I will say being in the corner did NOT effect service like I had anticipated! My boyfriend got the 2 meat plate (chicken and brisket) I got one of the bowls! He selected the beans, slaw and toast - all incredible options! I selected the Classic BBQ Bowl, but subbed the onion straws for bacon bits. Service and food were both quick! Would definitely come back!

Decided to try out this place while on vacation at nearby Great Wolf Lodge. The drive thru was fast and food was delicious. The peach cobbler egg rolls were very delicious. I also had the sweet peach glazed bbq chicken.

The good part is the food taste wonderful. I love the baked beans and the pork my wife orders, the barbecue chicken with sweet potato we always share the two piece combo. It is enough for two people. We normally would order the four piece combo which included ribs, brisket, pork and barbecue chicken. Beware: Sonny's has changed their menu and ribs and brisket is not included in the four piece anymore.

Visiting from Jersey, hotel not far from here, and decided to stop for dinner, and everything was very good. My fish was fried and seasoned to perfection. My bf was pleased with what he had ordered. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive despite doing double duty with waiting tables and taking care of the bar. I would return if I was in the area.

Ok my daughter and I are went to the mall. We were hungry when we got finished with shopping so we decided to eat here. OMG the service was friendly and fast what a great place to go. I had turkey and my daughter had pulled pork. We loved it I was so happy they offered gluten friendly items also very easy to maneuver around especially in the ladies room. What an amazing meal.

North Carolina, you didn't disappoint!! This food was amazing and now I need a nap. I stopped here on a rest stop, rest is what I need after eating this. I have the I-Tis.

. Pulled pork was succulent and smoking. But the ribs were the best. Super juicy very flavorful I tried all four sauces on the table my favorite was the original. Food came to the table super fast with very friendly waitress only thing lacking was the hostess when we first entered the restaurant was not at her station and took a while to get her attention.

Alcohol yes. Hush puppies no. Food, 5/10. Pulled pork - 1/10. Terrible...absolute trash. Ribs - 6/10. Not bad but nothing great. Chicken- 7/10. Best part was the chicken from the sampler and it still had some red spots. That should tell you enough. Brisket- 5/10. Nothing special. Brisket grilled cheese - 5/10 nothing special. Corn nuggets- 7/10. Better than expected. Kids hotdog- 2/10. Terrible. Chicken tenders - 2/10. Trash. Cooked in old used grease. This is like fast food bbq. If cookout is a 2/10, this place is a 5/10. Build looks from the outside is nice and attractive but get inside and it's a fast food joint that isn't fast. Won't be going back.

Before asking for the check, I ask for a banana pudding to go. I get home to eat it, and notice that I only got a SPOONFUL IN THE TAKEOUT CONTAINER!!!!!!

You can feel the smell of smoke as soon as you come in! There might be s line when you get there around lunch time but it is worth it! This is a good BBQ place for sure. Everything I tried was really good - ribs, mac and cheese, pulled pork, brisket and even a garlic bread!

We visited on a Friday night at about 6pm. We were able to get a table no problem. I ordered the combination plate with dry rub ribs and the chicken with sides and he had the full rack of sweet saucy ribs. I ordered a potato for my side, which I thought would be a baked potato, but it was a sweet potato instead. I checked the menu, the don't offer baked potatoes. I didn't eat it, but will remember for next time. The ribs at Sonnys are consistent; they are always pretty good. You know what you are getting and the price is fair. NOTE: For this location, you take the Concord Mills Mall exit, but you are on the other side of the highway from the Mall. The location also has a drive through, which is unusual for bbq! So if you are on the road or heading out on the road, it's only 1 minute off highway 85 so you can drive through Sonny's, then keep on driving!

Be aware that they have taken the all you can eat options off their menu. We were told they just recently changed their menu and they don't know if the all you can eat will ever return. Very disappointing.

First time dining here. It was a weekday for lunch. Pretty quite but food came out hot and fresh. Service was great and restaurant was clean and had great music.

One of the best bbq places I've been to. We try to go once a year and it never disappoints! We order the family meal (not on menu for dine in) and its about $60 and can feed 6 people, maybe 8. We always have a lot of left over. The corn bread is so good. The teas are always freshly brewed. The service is fantastic! Our last waitress (blood lady) was one of the best waitresses I've ever had. So attentive and knew exactly what you needed and was very quick! The restaurant is always clean and roomy. No pics this time since we devoured the food. I wish i would've ordered a to go meal before leaving the area!

It's decent BBQ nothing that is going to blow your mind but is good and a fair price.restaurant is clean and staff friendly. I think there are only two left in the area.

I used to love this place, not so much anymore. It's needs a total makeover starting with ownership down to employees. Someone needs to implement some quality control. It's been at least 3 visits where the bread has been old, hard, and cold (including food items that appeared room temperature...probably has been sitting on the counter ready to be delivered but it wasn't right away). That goes along with the food as well. Each time of the visit I thought I would have a different experience for the better, but NOPE! Every visit it's not busy, but they're operating like it's jam-packed. I'd hate to see it when it's legit busy. The waitresses need to verify the order to the table upon delivery....that's not happening because each time there's been an error with the order. I've been keeping tabs since then and I'm at the breaking point. I've done a visit review on each instance and have not been contacted once. I'm done! I highly recommend NOT visiting the location at Concord Mills- horrible!!

First place we are when we flew into Charlotte and the food was delicious! I recommend their BBQ

We hadn't eaten here in a long time so we decided to return for dinner tonight. When it was all over I was glad we selected Sonny's for the evening. I got a barbecue salad. It was good. It was huge. My server brought me a side of bleu cheese that was really good! She also brought me a cornbread muffin that was good. My date got a pulled pork sandwich that was good. It came out with potato salad that just okay. The drink cups were huge. The service was five star! Our server, Alex, was on top of everything tonight. From the time we sat down she was there. She knew the menu and made suggestions. Even as we were finishing up she brought us a to-go drink. She represented the restaurant well! The restaurant appeared clean. They seemed to be taking precautions against COVID. Tables were distanced. Condiments were brought out after being wiped down. The server was wearing a mask. They were trying. I will surely return. It was decent food at a good price with great service.

Well I finally tried this place and I definitely won't be back. I figured I'd treat my palate and ordered ribs and smoked wings meal. The ribs were more like hard skin on the bone and the wings were rubbery and under-cookers. The baked beans as they say were nothing to write home about and the green beans were rancid. One taste and the rest of my meal almost came back up. The garlic bread was the best part of the meal, but it's hard to mess up putting butter on toast. It was severely overpriced. I could have gone across the street to Cookout and saved $12 and had a better experience. Run Forrest Run...Away!

The order was for 1/4 chicken, it was a wing!! It was dry and looked old. The ribs we dry. The brisket was dry and chewy.

When I was a kid I wasn't a fan of BBQ. My friends would talk about Sonny's and I would pass. As an adult I have broaden my palate. When I tell you I had an amazingly delicious time trust me the food was some of the best. I ordered a sandwhich that had jalapeno cheddar brats, brisket, and garlic toast. It came with some flavorful mac n cheese. I tried some of my Husband's sliced pork and my sons corn nuggets. My tastebuds were all over the place with happiness. We drank the Sonny's Amber. The beer was smooth, flavorful and delicious. Definitely a great pairing with our food. My daughter is in Charlotte for college and I will now be adding this stop when we visit. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. Definitely coming here again.

Probably won't ever eat here again. Just my preference. The food was very bland....no seasoning. The service was slow. The tea was awful. Maybe it was just a bad day or my taste buds were off. Better luck next time if there's a next time.

Food is always good. They have good services staff is very friendly and helpful.We have are favorite waitresses And that Alex and Donna they both aways make sure our drinks are fill and we have everything we need

We had a family group of 8 people which they gladly accommodated. Our server was a wonderful attentive young lady. The menu offered unlimited combinations. Three of us had pick2 specials and chose pulled pork and chopped brisket. I had a baked sweet potato and green beans sides. We had had barbecue the night before so I had to compare. The beef from Sonny's was gristly and had little flavor. The pork had no smoke flavor either. They were out of cinnamon so the only option for the sweet potato was packaged honey butter. The sauces were nothing special. My dining companions also felt the food was mediocre. The service was excellent so, despite the deficiencies in the food, we had an enjoyable dinner.

Took my father here on his birthday week, when you turn 86, you should celebrate a whole month!! The service at first was slow but at least 5 servers on the floor, it was relatively busy. After being recognized, the server was very attentive and we were friendly and appreciative for her service. The BBQ was luke warm and also, this location is in NC, so not having a vinegar based sauce is poor. The sides were great and the unsweetened tea was strong and refreshing. The 1/2 chicken was delicious but as always, hard to keep the breast moist and I do not care for ketchup based sauces. We'd go again, just order with more instructions.

So, went to Sonny's BBQ for my birthday dinner. I go to Sonny's once a year for my birthday and get the all you can eat sliced pork. Their sliced pork is amazing. It's my once a year guilty pleasure. So I look at the menu and don't see it. I asked the waitress if they still had it and she said "not on the weekends, only during the week". Huh? What the hell. She said you will have to order the 2 or 3 meat combo and just double up on the sliced pork. I said ok, I'll need another minute please. She replied sarcastically, ok I'll be here all night and she stormed off. So she comes back and I order the combo with Sliced pork and the 1/4 smoked chicken. She brings it out and it's Sliced pork and pulled chicken. I tell it's wrong and she says "well, that's what you ordered". I said no, it's not, I told you Sliced pork and 1/4 chicken. My wife heard me order and she backed me up on it. So the waitress gets huffy and grabs the plate and stomps off. A few minutes later she brings me the 1/4 chicken and Pulled pork. I said, what the hell, this is not what I ordered. She argues with me "well that is exactly what you just told me you wanted". At this point I'm pissed. I said get me your manager. A different girl comes over and says I understand that there is a problem. So I explain the whole situation to her and tell her I'm ready to send everything back and you can keep it, we'll go somewhere else. She says "well let me get another manager". Clearly she was just another waitress trying to keep her friend from getting in trouble. I ask her why do you need another manager? She says "well, we don't want you to leave unhappy". At this point I'm done. I told her, your a manager, I gave you the problem now you own the problem, fix it. She starts humming and hawing and I finally just say take the whole thing away and we're out of here. I also told her that they need to do a better job training their waitresses. On the way to the door we pass her holding the 2 plates and talking to the "real" manager. He looks at me and says have a good day now. No apologies, nothing. I turn and tell him that he needs to train his waitresses and that he needs to do better and we left. I will never set foot in that Sonny's again.

Just don't-just don't 0/10 would not recommend I can honestly say the only positive would be our waitress, she was pleasant and attentive. The food: Order was incorrect for one plate All meats were dry, cold, and just terrible Loaded tots tasted off, I think the cheese had gone bad Soggy toast French fries cold and just strange Just go to the bbq place across the street-1000 times better food and the exact same price

Tried this place after 3 years, and was not disappointed. I had the 1/4 chicken and pulled pork with bbq baked beans/fries/Mac n cheese. It was worth the drive just for the chicken itself. I had dark meat, and the flavor and juiciness was impeccable! The pulled pork was decent, but I liked the fact that you could use one of the 4 sauces they offer to flavor it. As an appetizer, we got the fried corn nuggets, which came dusted with powdered sugar. Was a little skeptical about these, but they tasted just like homemade corn fritters. My husband had the St Louis ribs, which were juicy and full of flavor as well. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because the pulled pork was on the dry side. Service was great, and the facility was clean. Looking forward to going back.

The minute we pulled into the drive thru I knew I had made a mistake. The brisket was bland and lacked any mins of flavor. The mac and cheese tasted like it was straight from a box. The only decent item I had was the baked beans. I guess you can't go wrong there. The lemonade wasn't homemade and was watered down. We only decided to stop here because Smoke Pit was closed. Do yourself a favor and just head to smoke pit.

the place has cobwebs everywhere! the flys are seriously aggravating! The Owner/management evidently has no pride at all in this restaurant! Waiting in a booth for our food, and I've already started loosing my appetite! Let's hope the food is better than the restaurant portrays! If I could give a 0 I would!

Good food, good prices, not a bad place for lunch. Sonny's is a nice little barbeque joint in the Concord Mills area. Inside has a pretty cozy feel to it. Dark wood everywhere from the walls to the tables, and benches with surprisingly comfy cushions. Not very busy when we dropped by we were seated quickly and had our drink orders taken. Our waitress explained the specials and we ordered. My brother recommended the turkey so I decided on the Sliced Turkey Sandwich with Green Beans. First off I want to say that the green beans were exceptional. Most places (for some reason) have these sad, sweet, anemic green beans as a side, but not these. Nice bright color, good savory flavor with hints of bacon fat and onion. They were delicious. On to the main course the sandwich was pretty good. Turkey had good smokey flavor but as sometimes happens with turkey it was a tad dry. Fortunately that was helped by a foursome of yummy sauces (I preferred the original) and some perfectly toasted garlic bread in place of a normal bun. All together it was pretty tasty. Our waitress was super polite, but I did notice our table could have used another wipe down. Not disgusting but it was a tad sticky in places. Overall a pleasant experience. If you're going to drop by I recommend trying for the middle of the day for the lunch specials.

I've been eating at Sonny's BBQ for almost 50 years. I've never felt disappointed with the quality of the food and the service I received from them. BBQ is excellent at a fair price!! Love Sonny's BBQ.

Love their smoked wings and turkey. Very consistent food and always good. I do miss the salad bar but I like the bar area.

Came here on a Monday afternoon. At first I was taken back at the lack of attentiveness by their staff. Seems like they may have been short staffed. But I still think an easy greeting such as, "Welcome, someone will be right with you is appropriate." A waitress came to us to seat us and said nothing, prompting me to speak to her in hopes of her realizing she was not putting forth a great effort at all and seemed irritated more people were arriving. Never the less we were seated and our waiter (I forgot his name) made up for it. He was very nice and patient. We were spaced apart from others and the staff had masks on. The food was good but was Luke warm. The mac n cheese was bland but I enjoyed my meal. I really like the ribs and chopped brisket it just would have been more enjoyable if the food was hot. They bring sauces to the table for you to use. We ordered the 2 meat combo that came with two sides and it was a $10.99 special which I think was reasonably priced.
