"Leave it to a former Safta chef to bring us perfected Mediterranean flavors, but at way more affordable prices. The spunky Sonny’s Mediterranean is a bright, counter-service eatery where you make a few simple choices: pita, salad, or plate? Falafel, chicken, or both? Add a side of baba ganoush or za-atar fries? Then grab your number, take a seat, and wait to enter pita, salad, or plate bliss. All the sauces are scratch-made, so you might want to ask for an extra cup of the harissa with its trio of dried chiles and/or the kicky chimichurri. (Spice averse should definitely skip the zhoug, which should only be ordered by masochists willing to part with their taste buds.)" - Allyson Reedy

Food was very fresh. Chicken was great. The hummus was so smooth. The beet drink was sweeter than expected, but overall a good fast casual experience.

Google
I ordered a chicken pita. I was surprised when it rang up as $18.90!!!! Are we at the airport or something???? That is a good $5-$8 dollars more than similar places (Cava, Cheba Hut, Garbanzo, Halal Guys, Gyros and Kabobs, etc) When presented to me, my food did not look appetizing or taste good. The chicken was not nicely sliced or pulled apart, it was funky looking chunks tossed in the pita, probably by someone with zero culinary education. Not mindfully prepared, as it should have been, especially for that price. The "basil" sauce had no flavor. The pita itself was basic and unremarkable. Bleahhh. The tip screen asking for a 25% tip was laughable. I am personally offended by this mediocre establishment and bummed that I wasted my time and money here.

Google
Great little Mediterranean cafe! Ordered the fattoush salad with chicken, side of falafel, harissa hummus, and pita. Everything had great flavor. The portions are small for the price. The staff was very knowledgeable on the food, which made it helpful when deciding what to order. While this wouldn’t be my go to place, it’s a good addition to the area and I would stop in again to try a pita sandwich.

Google
After seeing this spot many times on Instagram we had to give it a try, and we were not disappointed. Far and away, the best things that we ordered were the hummus and chicken. The chicken was extremely juicy and tender, with crispy flavorful skin. The hummus was silky smooth and well-flavored too. The other items we had in the mezze platter were good too, but honestly couldn’t get over the hummus/chicken… Next time we’ll be trying some salads and pita sandos!

Google
Food is tasty but not sure how I’m supposed to eat all this hummus with one piece of pita? Or each individual piece of pita cost $3?

Google
Well, isn't this a hidden secret? I say that because we discovered the food AND happy hour. We even did separate trips for each. Both are worth going to solo or combined. I am not even the biggest Mediterranean food fan. But, the wife talked me into going, and I was floored with the excellence. So I had the Pita Sando #3. You get three options for content. Let me first just say that the portions are luxuriously huge. Wife had the chicken harissa and loved it. We also shared the hummus. She did the vegetables, I did the delicious pita bread. Their open air cooler is WAY cold. Great staff. Counter service, and it seems easy accessible to go back up for the OTHER part. The Happy Hour. If ever in the area of this adorable street and aren't even hungry, just swing by. Great pricing. Wine is half priced, craft draft beer is $5 (varies), and Peroni's are $3.50. Definitely recommend, and see you there.

Sooooooo yummy! Loved the zhoug aioli! Try the Meade sampler to get lots of different flavors.

Google
Been coming here since it opened. Love falafel and have had it all over. Was not to impressed at first. But it keeps getting better and better. Highly recommend. Great flavor, sauces and dishes.

Yelp
Sonny's is a must visit! Really incredible food and value for what you spend. Fast casual restaurant with a decent and reasonable wine selection. Service is great too at the counters up front. Israeli-influenced Mediterranean food. Get the Family Platter, I prefer Chicken over Falafel but both are very good. The Lamb which is only available on Sundays is my favorite. The food reheats very well. Zhoug Sauce is a must try and is delicious with Hummus or Tzatziki. Their Fresh Pita is the best part. Worth a stroll over to Sonny's for a refreshing and healthy meal at a bustling local neighborhood hotspot.

Yelp
3.5 stars so I will give it 4. I had the #1 and Tracie had the #3. The food quantity is very filling. I thought the falafel balls were too salty. The french fries (Sysco or US Food Service) were cooked perfectly and very hot and crispy. The inside is really sterile. I would only eat here if you can sit outside on the pleasant sidewalk patio. + hefty paper napkins + metal flatware $35.10 for lunch for 2 (including tax)

Yelp
Food was delicious! So much so, I forgot to take a photo! Staff was much to be desired. It is a small place with only a few small tables inside and out. When we arrive for a work team lunch (three were only 3 of us), this group of guys had taken all the chairs from the one open table. I kindly asked the women at the register if they had more chairs or if we could bring some in from the table outside. She looked at me like she didn't understand. Finally, she got it and retrieved a few chairs for us. We sat down and she brought us our order in a to-go bag. She then said "Oh did you want to eat in?". Then we went to get forks since two of us has ordered bowls and there were no clean utensils. I went up to the counter and asked the same women. She came back with forks and put them in the container, looked at us and then decided "oh maybe I should actually provide this table with utensils", so she handed me a fork. That was great but, we needed another one. Clearly she is not the brightest crayon in the box. They clearly need to have some training. The food is great. I would just suggest ordering to-go, limiting your interaction with the staff.

Sarah A.

Yelp
This place is a staple! The locations is designed for counter service so seating is limited. Be prepared to grab your food and go if needed. The food itself was amazing. Many things are a la carte so do expect to pay more than other quick dining options. The fries were really flavorful and the pita was stand out. We ordered a lot of food and could have gotten away with sharing the fries and baba ganoush.

Janet D.

Yelp
This young counter business is worth a visit. Mediterranean fare is an obvious choice with Chef David Schloss who used to work with Safta. With his every own recipe created this uber-smooth lotion-like hummus. Lena Young who's engaged to Dave and cute as a button makes sure things are smooth out front. They opened in June 28 of last year. Everything is made fresh. Salads, sauces and that rotisserie chicken is one of the best! Moist and as a sandwich is unbeatable! We had the #2 version the Classic Gyro prep. Love it! Oh they have wines and beers! Tip: their fries are amazing! Great friendly service! They are busy, the entire menu can be made vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free by request. Who's Sonny? It's their 120 lbs Great Pyrenees that turns 4 today! Happy Birthday Sonny!

Devon D.

Yelp
This place is the bomb! Greek salad with chicken totally hit the spot!! Friendly staff and brightly lit and clean inside! Will definitely be back again!

Lianna B.

Yelp
Great food and fast and friendly service. It is a little pricey for typical middle eastern/Mediterranean fast service food but is more upscale. They have seating but it is limited and does get busy so takeout is a good option. They have 3 preset pitas with your choice of falafel or rotisserie chicken and either harissa, zhoug or basil chimichurri. Their chicken is super moist and I enjoyed my pita #1 with harissa. Definitely only recommend harissa for you like spice (which I do). I would prefer if you could build your own as my ideal is probably some combination of all 3 of them. Their pita is fantastic and it's a good size. They also offer salads, plates, hummus bowls or samplers of dips. My ideal dish would probably be a mix of the chicken, some dips and hummus but that's not a menu item (you can order a platter of dips or a whole/half chicken but no combination). I would go back because their food was delicious but I would prefer a few more variations of the items on the menu and a build your own pita option

Andrea S.

Yelp
Sonny's was so darn good (I can't type what I actually told my husband after eating here)! I met a friend for a quick meal before heading to a yoga class nearby. We both ordered a version of their sandwich with falafel and chicken. I opted for sandwich 1 with their chimichurri sauce... SO SO big and GOOD! The falafel wasn't my fav I've had but man, that juicy chicken was amazing; just wish there was more of it! My friend also ordered some baklava for us to share... it felt a tad burnt and didn't really pack the punch I'm use to with baklava. Very clean and modern but small spot with friendly staff that made sure to keep checking in.

Patrick S.

Yelp
Thank you Yelp for bringing us to Sonny's!! Read a review. Saw the pics. Added it to the list and went for lunch. Same day! Sando #2 and #3 with fries and hummus. Amazing. Fresh. Flavorful amazing sauces. Chicken is delicious rotisserie The hummus has a slight Smokey flavor French fries that are perfectly seasoned Doesn't come fast but it's made to order and worth the wait. Definitely on repeat.

Yelp
Want high quality, delicious Mediterranean food in a casual environment? Sonny's is THE SPOT. We were craving some sandwiches and carbs after a night of drinking and decided to checkout Sonny's with the great things we had heard. Not your typical sandwich, and so much better. They're tucked away in the upper highlands and have a small outdoor seating area that is perfect for people watching on a Saturday! We were lucky enough to get to meet the owners. What a joy! David and Lena are so down to earth, kind and pumped to bring good food to Denver! They took the time to talk to us and know our names, which feels so rare nowadays! You might've heard about this place as David was a former chef at Safta. While Safta is upscale and delicious, Sonny's brings approachable Mediterranean food in a casual environment for people to love and doesn't skip a beat on flavors! You order up front, take a table number and they bring the food out to you. On to the food. Damn! The sandwiches were beyond flavorful, juicy, saucy and complex in flavors. The rotisserie chicken is so tender and flavorful. Sando #2 we got with harissa. The tzatziki made it so refreshing and creamy along with the feta. We like it spicy and it had the perfect amount of heat. Sando #3 we got with zhoug (herby sauce, fresh lime chimichurri). This one with the zhoug was spicier than #2 (highly recommend getting with zhoug if you like cilantro and spice). I was worried the fries would be thick and potatoey (which usually happens in Mediterranean places that add fries to wraps) and it was the absolute opposite here! So crispy and perfect. The sandwiches seem pricey off the bat but they are packed full. We were STUFFED. The baba ganoush was insane. SOOOO smokey. It's a laborious process that involves an intense char to give it all that flavor. You have to get this! So unique vs all the baba ganoush in denver. The pita was delicious! I got to try the falafel and I am not a falafel person, but am a changed person for their falafel! I'm used to dry crumbly, bland falafel. Not here! It's so moist on the inside and has a great cilantro and parsley flavor and so crispy on the outside. Incredible! Don't waste your time keeping this place bookmarked on Yelp forever. Get over there and enjoy some delicious Mediterranean food made by lovely owners who have poured their heart into the menu and to getting this place up and running! We can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I was last here on their opening day of June 28, 2023. They are across the street from my favorite Italian restaurant, Spuntino. I came back to have a Mediterranean meal. I got the Chicken Sando with spicy & crunchy Israeli pickles and a generous amount of chicken, with red slaw served in a pita. I added the Sonny's salad with iceberg & romaine lettuce with chunks of roasted sweet potatoes, plenty of pecans and a drizzled cucumber yogurt dressing. I added 3 Falafel balls. I also got a can of SanPellegrinno Aranciata Rosso, an Italian soft drink with blood orange. An excellent filling meal. You order at the counter, select your drinks and they hand a table sign to you. My food was delivered quickly. The inside was very clean with white metal tables and chairs. They have a larger bar menu with wines, cocktails and beer. They serve breakfast on Sunday mornings only from 9am-11am, before their regular hours of 11am-9pm. They also have Happy Hours from 2pm-5pm. I will come back both Happy Hours and Sunday breakfast.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the long line of people waiting outside - it's not because how good it is but because the kitchen is extremely incapable!! Do yourself a favor and grab rotisserie chicken from your closest grocery store instead!!! This is the SLOWEST counter service place with most overhyped/MEDIOCRE food but fine dining price $$ We came here on Saturday night and waited in line. Ordered hummus and rotisserie chicken and was told that it would be ready in 25min. I thought wow it must be that good for so many people to be willing to wait. Fine, I went to a spot nearby and got drinks while waiting. Coming back, food not ready - ended up waiting for 40 min!! Can they at least manage the wait and give people a text notification when food is ready? Worst part - the $26 half rotisserie chicken I ordered was not as good as the ones from grocery store - overcooked and not so crispy skin, with so much salt on the outside. I wonder what gave them the confidence to charge $26??! Now I felt like a fool for wasting the money and time on this meal. The hummus & pita were very delicious and special, but didn't make up for anything This disappointment was not helped by all the attractive and convincing marketing I saw online about this restaurant. As a Denver food scene enthusiast, I'm really tired of all these overhyped places. People, let's vote with our wallet and give those real deserving places a chance instead!

Molly W.

Yelp
decently tasty but felt overpriced! I didn't love that you couldn't build your own pita-- they have 3 options and I would have loved to pick & choose the toppings. Like I wanted Israeli pickles from #1 but also harissa aioli sounded good on #3. I love a fast casual Mediterranean place but I think Sonny's left a bit to be desired!

Alexa N.

Yelp
I've been a big fan of safta so I was really excited when the former chef was opening his own restaurant! I got really lucky and when around 3PM on a Saturday and there was no line. The staff was very friendly and suggested what to get based off what my level of spice. The seating inside and outside was very limited but were we able to get bar seating. I got the pita sandos #2 with chicken and the basil chimichurri sauce. I also got the side of zatara fries. When the food came out I was super surprised on how big the portions were and everything was so tasty! I for sure want to come again and try their other dishes!

Zach S.

Yelp
Some of the freshest and most delicious Mediterranean food in Denver! They have solid portion sizes and no matter what meat you get for your pita, it's delicious! Highly recommend this place

Nancie H.

Yelp
Best fries in town. So many fun options on dips! The food is fresh, made to order, and seasoned to perfection. Service was friendly and fast. There were a lot of people in line, so based on that and the delicious smells, you know you're in the right spot!

Yelp
It's really pains me to give a new business a bad review, but hopefully some constructive feedback will help them in their success. I visited Sonny's today and it wasn't super busy; only one group ahead of me. The good: staff was super friendly. The front counter staff member walked me through the menu and made loads of recommendations. The staff that handed me the food was also smiling and personable. The wait time wasn't bad either; about 10 min to receive my sandwich. The bad: I ordered the chicken pita, which came in around $16 with tip. For that price-point, I feel like the protein portion should be a little more hearty than it was. The sandwich contained little chicken. The chicken it did contain was so dry, contained a lot of gristle and there were a lot of non-edible pieces. After the first bite, I found myself picking through all of the pieces as it was truly inedible. I also bit into a chicken bone, which was an unpleasant surprise. I ended up removing the chicken and eating the pita w/o it. The pita to topping ratio was also a bummer as the portion was slim. The pita wasn't that great, served room temperature. It was pretty dry and chalky. Maybe it would tasted better if served warmed, I don't know but I've had much better pita in my life. All in all, I'm not sure I would cross town to come back, but if I'm the area again, I'd give them another go and try their salads or sides.

Andrea N.

Yelp
Got the hummus bowl. Heada up, it was more a deconstructed 'bowl'. Very yummy though! The hummus is amazing (I heard it's from the same maker as Safta), as is the roasted chicken, and the chimichurri were delish. Don't go expecting to be able to get a gyro or schwarma. I would go back if i was in the neighborhood again, but probably wouldn't seek it out when i live on the other side of town

Sabrina M.

Yelp
Visiting Denver for a concert and I'm always a sucker for good Mediterranean food. Small place but packs a punch in flavor of the dishes served. Very friendly staff. Clean bathrooms and tables. Would recommend sitting outside. Can't wait to come back I'll be dreaming of this place until then. (,:

J K.

Yelp
This is a great little fast-casual Mediterranean spot! You order at the counter and seat yourself. Parking can be a bit tricky since it's street parking. I ordered the tehina hummus, baba ghanoush, and pita for takeout. All three were so delicious! The hummus is incredibly smooth and very flavorful with the addition of the tahini on top. I've had the hummus from Safta, and this is very similar in taste/texture but at a much more reasonable price point. The baba ghanoush was very smoky and had lots of eggplant chunks, which I enjoyed. Takeout was quick and easy. Definitely worth the price!

Mark F.

Yelp

Yelp
Super pita with falafel. But the most incredible were the zatar fries...hummus salad also good. Limited seating.

Hilary B.

Yelp
I can here at 2pm on a Sunday and there was no line and I walked right in. I ordered the #2 Pita Sando with the falafel and chimichuri sauce. The staff was super friendly and the service was great and efficient. The pita was flavorful and I loved the different sauces. The falafel however was a little hard and the pita was incredibly difficult to eat. I ended up taking out the falafel balls and cutting them and eating them separately outside of the pita.

Kylie M.

Yelp
So good 10/10 loved the mezze platter to try a little bit of everything when it came to flavor. LOVE the Zhoug Aioli !!!

Heather T.

Yelp
We met up with a friend to try this place out. 5:30 was perfect to show up before it got really packed. This is fast casual so there isn't a lot of seating. First the staff was all really friendly and helpful. We started with the baba ganoush/pita and orzo salad. The baba ganoush was nice and smokey but the star of the show was the fluffy, warm pita. The orzo salad needed salt and we ended up bringing it home with us. The hubs ate it with eggs the next morning with a hit of salt and it was really good. I went with the pita sandwich with falafel and #1 with harissa. It was so much flavor, so good that I basically devoured the sammie in about five minutes. The hubs and our friend also ordered pita sandwiches. The hubs went with the #3 with chicken and our friend did the #2 with a combo of chicken and falafel. We all agreed the fries weren't as crispy as the ideal fry but otherwise, it was a solid first visit.

Kim A.

Yelp
Great little Mediterranean cafe! Ordered the fattoush salad with chicken, side of falafel, harissa hummus, and pita. Everything had great flavor and the chicken was super tender. The portions are small for the price. The staff was very knowledgeable on the food, which made it helpful when deciding what to order. While this wouldn't be my go to place, it's a good addition to the area and I would stop in again to try a pita sandwich.

Emma J.

Yelp
We went here on a Thursday afternoon around 1pm and the place was packed! I cannot even imagine what this place looks like on a weekend. All three of us ordered the #3 pita sando with different variations of protein and sauces, and we all loved it! It was super easy, but also very messy haha. The one negative and reason for four stars is how long it took from ordering to getting our food. It was probably about 25-minutes, which in my opinion is very long for a fast-casual place, especially on a weekday.

Rachael M.

Yelp
Sonny's is AMAZING and a must try in highlands when you want a casual delicious and quick bite. The food is fabulous and full of flavor but the staff is amazing and make you feel at home. Extremely kind with lots of amazing suggestions with the menu. We look forward to stopping in again really soon and plan to become a regular!

Katie N.

Yelp
Awesome new lunch spot in LoHi!!! Stopped in with 2 friends. The guy at the register was super friendly and helpful with our questions. I ordered a Greek salad with falafel. The falafel was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Great combo of fresh and tangy ingredients for the salad. Would definitely stop back!

Kimberly F.

Yelp
I can't recommend this place enough! Both take out and dinning it it's amazing. Everything is so fresh, although maybe be a bit more on the $$ for a casual spot it is always worth the money. Service is great. My favorite is the fries ! Can't not get them every time!!!!! Will be always coming back!!

Shin M.

Yelp
I got the #2 tzakiki sandwich with basil chimichurri sauce. It was really tasty and flavorful. I could not eat it as a sandwich tho,(" too messy. Inside has some seating, very small place. Two small tables outside

Liz C.

Yelp
***Friendly Staff, Outdoor Seating, Check This Place Out*** This restaurant just opened up and serves Mediterranean cuisine. If you can't decide what to get from their menu, I recommend the falafel, zhoug and any of their hummus! I love that they can make anything on their menu gluten free and vegan friendly. Check this place out if you're in the area! We met the owner and he is truly passionate about his menu. He really believes in his hummus and it doesn't disappoint!!!

Jess D.

Yelp
Trust me, get the baba ghanoush and the Fattoush salad. It will change your life. I love this place. It is healthy and delicious. It is a little bit expensive and that might be. It's only downfall.

Vanessa W.

Yelp
Falafel, hummus and basil dressing were very good. Pita was okay. Good amount of food for the price. I will be back to try the other stuff next time! Service was friendly and they were slow so they asked 5x if I needed anything else which was nice

Leah A.

Yelp
I have to agree with another yelper that left a 1 star review. Took forever. Very bland. $31 for 2 plates. A Greek salad add falafel ($4 for 3 burnt falafel) and a hummus plate with the smallest portion of hummus I have ever seen served at a "Mediterranean" place. I don't even feel it's fair to call this Mediterranean, it's like a bad faux paux trying way too hard to be "high end" and hip Mediterranean. Meanwhile they're serving your food on paper plates and trays lol. Don't even get me started on the seating situation. Crammed tiny little tables all thrown in and you basically are dining with every other person in the joint. This was a big no and a HUGE MISS. I'm positive most of these 5 star reviews are from those that have never truly had good food,

Christa R.

Yelp
3.75/5 Straight up, the food is really good. The chef has figured out a minimal menu that is bursting with flavor and options for everyone. Service was on the slower side and the staff was visually annoyed when I asked for an order update 15 minutes later. That said, they were packed and it's a fairly new spot so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt in these early days.

Ben W.

Yelp
Had the breakfast options which I was a little hesitant about but were delicious. The brown butter cookie too was also delicious. Will be back!

Piper T.

Yelp
Sonny's is such a good addition to the neighborhood. And I don't need to wax poetic on how wonderful the food is-the reviews are in and IT IS THAT GOOD. However, I must acknowledge the exceptional service we received on 11/4-lamenting I didn't get the wonderful human's name! We ordered our fantastical sandwiches and had a mod to put the pickled onions on the side. This is totally a preference for us. The pickled onions did not come on the side. We didn't think a thing about it because everything was so perfect and so good. But the lovely human working came out to our table, acknowledged it and I wanted to cry? Not about the onions. Sonny's is cranking out awesome food, incredible hospitality, and as a former restaurant worker, a really special and comforting spot.

Noah P.

Yelp
One of the best chickens I have had in my life, all the sauces are absolute bangers and the hummus and pita options are all spectacular

Terri B.

Yelp
a fantastic lunch. super fresh and flavorful and didn't have to wait to long. ambiance is your typical fast casual deal

Marissa M.

Yelp
Habibi! This is so good. The portion size of the plate falafel plate was huge and the falafel was green! The hummus is so smooth and creamy and the pita seemed house-made. I would 100% come back again.

Caroline N.

Yelp
We really enjoyed Sonny's! The staff was very kind and the food was great! Highly recommend the harissa humus. That only con is that the restaurant is very small (Minimal seating options) and the music was way too loud.

Cole C.

Yelp
Best Mediterranean food in Denver! It has a limited menu but everything on the menu is done perfectly! The portions are big, every bite is packed with flavor, and every item has some type of creative/unique touch to it to make it Sonny's! I will be taking all of my friends and family here when they visit! 10/10

Liliya M.

Yelp
Food was amazing!! Totally recommend trying this place 10/10 the workers are very helpful and nice

Tina S.

Yelp
My family was excited to try this new Mediterranean place in our neighborhood. The chicken was nice and tender and the falafels were flavorful and not dry. It was all good until I was half-way into my pita sandwich and then had to pull a long (not-my) hair out of my mouth. Ew. I'd expect more quality control and less hair for a $19 sandwich.

Melanie B.

Yelp
As soon as I saw that the falafel was green inside, I knew that I had come to the right place. Green falafel is far superior to brown falafel, and you cannot convince me otherwise. This falafel was so good! It was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside like falafel should be. I got the #1 pita sando with the basil chimichurri sauce, which was amazing. I would not hesitate to buy a pint of that sauce if I could. The sando also came with a generous serving of pickles. Leaving without trying the za'atar fries will be the biggest mistake of your life. Would love to see a larger selection of toppings to add to the sando, but that's not a dealbreaker. So thrilled to find delicious, authentic falafel in Denver, and I will be back for sure!

Jared T.

Yelp
Great spot for outstanding Mediterranean fare. Probably the best hummus we've ever had but everything we ordered was spectacular too. And the owners couldn't have been nicer.

Spencer S.

Yelp
My favorite Mediterranean spot in all of Denver! The flavors here are fantastic. Love the Pita Sandos, salads, and Falafel. There isn't a bad dish to be had here. The hummus is some of the best in Denver and special shout out to the Baba Ganoush. Breakfast on Sunday's is a treat as well. Plus, great owners and friendly staff. Highly recommend this spot!

Adam F.

Yelp
I've now been to Sonny's a few times and each experience is better then the one before. The team was getting their rhythm and now the service time has improved while the food quality continues to be amazing The #1 and #3 sandwiches are awesome and I just had the mezze platter which was also delicious. Food is great staff is friendly and great. I feel like the restaurant is more counter service than fast casual as they make everything fresh to order. Well worth stopping by and giving it a shot
