I'm going to jump on the bandwagon here- I'm so happy to see all the glowing reviews because it's a family favorite.
Meekk is a brilliant, hilarious, and soulful human being who has brought a true culinary gem to Sebastopol.
No exaggeration- I literally tear up at the love she and her team put into their food, their love of wine, and the community. When you meet them, you will see what I mean.
I've been here both for family gatherings for brunch and again last week for a dinner date with my husband.
The staff provides a warm and personable level of service across the board.
The dining environment was a beautiful date for me, my husband, and my baby. The baby was welcomed even though we were in a fine dining restaurant. (We brought a device to keep him from ruining the night for other guests. I would recommend doing the same for dinner since many people are enjoying a peaceful night out.)
Enjoy a beautiful outdoor setting on a protected patio with heaters that really work- you could even eat here happily in the rain.
My mom and I are always cold, and we were both perfectly comfortable on the patio when we came here for a family gathering (which I highly recommend for a family-friendly brunch!)
The level of Covid safety is vigilant. This is the first restaurant my parents visited after coming out from hiding from the pandemic long after everyone else, and for my mom who has autoimmune issues, this was a big deal. Not only is the environment safe, but the restaurant goes to great lengths to provide fantastic food that holds up for pick-up.
If you are vegetarian or vegan and have not been here, where have you been? You belong HERE! I have eaten plant-based food all up and down the west coast, and I have had nothing like it.
If you are not vegetarian or vegan, I guarantee your palate will be satiated.
We enjoyed the Vegetarian Meza Plate, which was to die for. Next time we will try the vegan version because how often do you find vegan labneh!?
My husband who is a food snob always judges a restaurant by its bread. First of all, you had us at house-made pita! My Israeli BFF is always on the lookout for decent hummus and fresh pita, and it's hard to come by even in SF.
The pita is soft and moist yet just crispy enough with a delicious seasoning on top. (My baby who also knows good food wouldn't keep his hands off it.)
The hummus, roasted pepper matbucha, house-made labneh, and olives were served in little magical jars, and just wait until you try the eggplant cured in pomegranate molasses. Oh. My. God.
The Gravenstein Apple and Belgian Endive Salad with blue cheese may sound cliche, but theirs is one of my favorite salads I've ever had. The endives are sliced in matchsticks which gives it this perfect little crunch. It's just one of those salads that hits the right textures and tastes perfectly. My husband thought the salad was a little under-dressed, but I did not.
We also enjoyed two kinds of fresh ravioli. The first was filled with spinach I believe? I can't find it on the menu, but it was served with bright and velvety marinara sauce with just a little texture. While my husband judges restaurants by their bread, I judge by the red sauce and I wholeheartedly approve.
But the real stunner was the ravioli with mushrooms in a heavy cream sauce- it was absolutely divine and again, my snobby husband was taken away.
If you like cream sauce and mushrooms, you'll definitely want to check it out.
I am not much of a fake-meat gal, but we wanted to branch out. We had faux lamb brochettes, which blew me away. I expected some kind of seitan-like dish, but it's made with mushrooms and spices, which gives it the most divine texture and fragrant flavor. I didn't think the rice and lentils on the side were anything spectacular until I mixed them with the tangy chimichurri sauce. It's a little spicy, so beware of that if you don't go for the hot.
We requested wine pairing, which I honestly don't remember exactly what they were but we loved it. We love wine but are not necessarily connaisseurs or club member types; however, they are primarily a wine club that happens to serve delicious food. If you like wine, I would definitely recommend looking into it because they seem to know what they're doing.
I know, I'm going on and on- but after all that deliciousness, we had a tray of desserts that once again blew away my chocolaholic husband. The chocolate trio has a mini pot de creme with espresso which I can still taste, as well as two other desserts- some kind of chocolate nut ganache which she described as an "adult snickers bar," and a port cake which was yummy but my least favorite. Finally, the light, creamy and boozy tiramisu- they nailed it.
Even though we brought the baby, this was the first "date" we went on in ages and I'm so glad we went here. My heart is warm from the whole experience and we felt blessed.
