This is a really cool spot! I came here for the 1st time due to craving Mexican food. I ordered the ceviche as well as the quesadilla. My partner ordered the burrito. The serves was very friendly and efficient for being the only server. It took a little bit of time for the food to arrive as it appears the server was the only person working. (we arrived on a Friday evening so it was sort of busy, not hectic but definitely required more than one server to be efficient). When the food arrived it was very good. The ceviche was amazing as well as the quesadilla. My partner loved his burrito as well. The atmosphere is super cute and there’s tons of seating throughout. I would probably return as I had a pleasant experience. I think one important thing to note is the service is very slow.

We went for happy hour on a rainy afternoon and our mood instantly brightened when we bit into the yummy empanadas with poblano sauce on the side. Margaritas were cold and tangy for $6. Queso and chips were good too. Very friendly service. We’ll be back to sit on the cute patio next time.

Google
I’m so conflicted about this place because unfortunately the service was so slow & exhausting that it took away from the whole experience. The food was surprisingly good, a little on the expensive side but at least it was tasty. Another downside is they do not have any good whiskey, but they do have a huge selection of tequila. Unfortunately my friends & I won’t be back, so sad.

Google
I always love the food here and the outdoor patio! My group of friends goes here every year after Pride. We loved our server and had such a great time!

Google
The food is good, I really like the pinchos, but the service is slow whether there are 6 tables or only 2 tables, it's the same. I'm not a fan of having to call the server because I think it's disrespectful to them, but there are places or servers that force you to do it.

The Tres Leches is a must try! It was perfectly soaked, moist without being soggy, with just the right balance of the three milks sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk and heavy cream.

Google
ordered the tacos which were great! the chips and salsa were tasty (only bad thing is that the chips were a cold and a little greasy). i also ordered the prickly peach drink. it was good, but really strong (so be ready to ask someone else to drive lol) we went on a saturday afternoon and it was pretty empty but then picked up after we got there. they may have been a little understaffed but the service was still good.

Excellent variety of 🌮 for reasonable prices. The chicken rojo was my favorite. The sauce the tender chicken it was a well balanced bite. The brisket was my second favorite packed with juicy beef and the house made sauce gave it a nice kick. The drinks were well balanced and delightful. I came back since my first experience and everything was as good as the first time..

Yelp
I love the taco Tuesday here! The tacos are all good, I get the steak one on Tuesdays. This is a very agreeable place, good food, hip scene, outdoor seating, bar and an interesting décor. Check it out.

Yelp
Great tacos!! They had great flavor and a great spice level! The tacos are have a double corn tortilla to help with the structural integrity. The jalapeños and lettuce were very very fresh. Both tacos had pickled red onions and it add an amazing depth to the tacos. Meat was juicy and tender and paired nice with the toppings. The ambiance of the restaurant is great. The interior is so cute and I loved the plants. Walked out on the patio to see if there was seating but there was none but from how it looked the patio area was so so cute. Want to go back and sit outside. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this place!!

Yelp
The tacos are amazing! I really enjoyed the shrimp one. The beef tacos were good it was dry and the chicken wasnt dry. The dessert was decent. The meat pie is good. Would recommend it again. I went during happy hours and it was a good price. But the food is amazing! Would recommend it. The service was good and the ambiance was nice.

Yelp
The service was fast and friendly. A good price and the food was the best! Cute little patio that is dog friendly. The classic margarita was tangy.

Yelp
Spoiler - these are my favorite tacos in the twin cities! I told this to the guests I had in town and it lived up to the hype! These aren't your standard tacos. The meat, tortillas and toppings are so good!! If you're kind of picky, I challenge you to eat the tacos "as is" because Sonora really knows what they're doing! I had a carnitas taco with pickled onions and a steak taco with cabbage. Flavorful is the main adjective I'd use! They surprised us with seemingly bottomless chips and salsa when we ordered it, and the cocktails are great! AND THE RICE, get the rice, you're welcome ha. The atmosphere is very cool! I prefer when it's not too busy, which it wasn't on a Saturday at 1! Service is a little slower but they're very friendly. The prices are... Not ideal haha. BUT, they essentially do half off everything during happy hours (weekdays 2-5), so I highly recommend going then!

Yelp
Sonora Grill is a great spot for Mexican dishes from tacos, empanadas, to seafood and sandwich's. Located off Lake street in the Longfellow area with a a parking lot for convenience. Ambiance 4/5 Its a warm inviting place with note worthy Mexican-inspired décor. Great seating, cute patio with just enough shade for the summer and dimly lit spot at night. Beware of the bees that might come. lol Service 4/5 Always fun servers who answer your questions with good recommendations based off your taste. Food/ Drinks 5/5 Word on the curb is that their homemade empanadas is a must have! I haven't ordered it yet however I will. Updates to follow. Huge fan of their Elotes with cilantro aioli, cheese & Chipotle salsa over coconut milk rice! Elotes $13 | Quesadilla $16 | Brisket Burrito $19 The Sonora $11 Overall 4/5 One of my favorite spots for sure, I need to go more often. I hear the Happy hour is great too!

Yelp
One of my favorite Latin America restaurants in the cities! Everything here is always delicious and unique and you can't go wrong. There's a huge patio outside for the summer but inside space is a little limited in the winter. So you can expect a small wait sometimes but usually not too bad. Service is pretty average, nothing great but not terrible. Will continue coming back for more!
google avatar

Makenna M.

Yelp
I enjoyed the food a lot!! The eggplant fries were amazing especially with the sauce that it came with. The inside was very cute and it was nice to be able to choose your own seats. Also enjoyed the pastor pork taco a lot as well. Would recommend to my friends!!

Yelp
Rainy Friday night that was not very busy. We got water and menus - then never had our drink or food order taken. After 20 minutes - with waitresses walking passed to clean empty tables -or- stand at the bar chatting to each other.... We finally left. So disappointing!
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
The food was delicious! It seems like our Server was a new server; she didn't bring IR offer plates w/ chips & guacamole for 2 people; no glass offered or brought w/ canned beverage. The decor is pretty sparse but interesting & because it was a cool, rainy day it was really chilly inside!

Yelp
Date night dead middle of winter and boy does the food and vibe here help cut the cold. I love Mexican food and am from CA so moving from the west coast has made me chase good Mexican to every part of my new frozen state. Warning it's a different type of (Mexican (and Argentine flavor) here and their sauces represent a blend of Mexican regions and flavors so if you are looking for typical Minnesota queso and chips don't ruin this place. I tried tacos because all Mexican eateries are gauged off meat, bean, tortillas and salsa. I added empanadas as a side and beans and rice which are ordered all a carte. My wife got the brisket potato burrito (sauced) and friends got street corn and more tacos. The food is so good and the flavors make your tongue salivate. Epic chips and salsa, good drinks ... what a find !!! Hats off to the group that owns Sonora , well done

Yelp
Follow me on Instagram and TikTok @no.table.manners for more food reviews! I'm at @sonora_minneapolis at the Lake St. Minneapolis, MN location Sonora Grill's taco Tuesday features 10 different tacos for only $3.00! Every taco I tried was absolutely delicious and I love the variety of different tacos I had to choose from, which now gives me a reason to come back and try even more. The Elote and rice was a nice starter. I really loved that cilantro aioli on the corn, and the shrimp pincho was really good as well. You cannot go wrong with grilled shrimp and chimichurri. Definitely head on over to Sonora Grill and try their variety of tacos, or any of their other delicious menu items.

Yelp
The patio was a great place for a Friday night eat. The menu had many choices. The food was slightly over cooked for my liking. The drink menu looked enticing. I would give it another try.

Yelp
I love this place! I was born and raised in the southwest and this is my go to place in the cities! Their elote is the best and the Obregon margarita is a must. Staff is top rate and if the weather is nice the patio is glorious!

Yelp
Service was a bit slow (we had to wave down someone after 10-15 minutes of waiting). Food was amazing - the skirt steak taco was the best I've ever had. Sangria was also delicious. Bartender with the neck tattoo threw himself into the job (think of a poor-man's Tom Cruise from Cocktail), but should consider using a few more of the buttons on his shirt (it was barely north of the navel). Took forever to get the bill, and it wasn't that busy. Also the best music I've heard in a restaurant - if you're an 80's and 90's Rock fan. Edit: on our way, we talked to a small family who asked if we finally ate. They had been there an hour and finally got some chips and salsa. Very slow. On Sunday evening. This place would crush with better service.

Yelp
Some of the best Mexican food in Minneapolis. We got takeout the other night and everything was great. It was packaged neatly and they were super quick. The fresh flour tortillas are the excellent, highly recommend!

Yelp
I recently visited their new sister location and decided to give this one a try. I'm definitely a fan of Sonora. Unlike the other location, this one has a patio. We decided to sit outside and thought the service was kinda slow. Granted they were busy since it was taco Tuesday. We did not get complimentary chips and salsa but maybe it's not a thing anymore? I really enjoyed their food. Their queso dip was excellent. For $1 more do yourself a favor and add the chorizo. Their tacos are delicious and full of flavors unlike any other tacos I've had around here. Even though it's a bit pricier than other taco places, they definitely packed in the meats and it was so worth it. Tip: Go on Tuesday and the tacos are discounted. They offer more variety of tacos here compared to their sister location. And also more food choices. Too bad they don't serve yucca fries at this location. I'll definitely come back!

Yelp
This email was sent to the restaurant on 1/8/24. Currently it has gone unanswered. "I'm writing to inform you of a very troubling experience I had in your restaurant on Saturday (12/30/23). If you recall on saturday, light flurries were starting to fall and the sidewalks right outside of your entrance were lightly coated with snow. I wore clogs that evening, which in hindsight, was not the best choice in footwear as the soles of the shoes are completely smooth. After entering Sonora Grill, your slick floors and my wet shoes disagreed, ending in a fall. I fell to the floor. No one came to my assistance except my boyfriend. I remember this vividly because I then assumed that no staff, etc saw my fall. I have a couple physical disabilities that make the motor actions of walking and balance (Ataxia) difficult at times. My boyfriend and I sat down and I tried to shake off the humiliation of my fall. As we focused on the menu, I recalled that my boyfriend had expressed some interest in drinking a margarita with dinner. The server greeted us nicely and then I requested a drink menu. To which he asked if I had been drinking. I answered truthfully, "no" and it took me a moment to realize that he was wondering if I was intoxicated. The server stepped away and a female employee came to our table and, without asking any questions, she stated that she didn't feel comfortable serving me. I was shocked and mumbled something about" completely understanding" as she hurriedly walked away. At no time did I request alcohol. I requested a menu so that my boyfriend could consider the cocktails. I was and am so upset that I was met by such a cruel, judgmental and discriminatory setting. The next day, my brother and I went to the same location (about noon on Sunday), hoping to have a productive conversation with the two employees that I previously interacted with. We found one, different employee who interrupted my story by apologizing and replied that the staff at Sonora Grill are trained to look for signs of intoxication. She repeated that "it was not personal" over and over. Regardless of intentions, your staffs' behavior certainly felt quite personal. This apology felt rote and the conversation was inadequate and unsettling. Your staff apparently saw me take a fall in your restaurant and no one came to my assistance, (which would have been an opportune time to assess if I was intoxicated). rather they made an incorrect assumption. Your staff assumed I was lying. And then they assumed that my physical disabilities were signs that I was intoxicated. I feel extremely unwelcome in Sonora Grill and appalled by this experience. I only ask that the owner of Sonora Grill reads this email and that steps are taken to further educate the staff about hospitality and inclusivity. I also expect an apology."

Yelp
Hands down the best south of the border fare in the Twin Cities! Try any of the tacos (all great) or for something different try the seafood bichi! Great margaritas or the house favorite Obregon
google avatar

Brock S.

Yelp
One of the best happy hour deals I've come across post-pandemic with $3 tacos and $5 house margaritas. A surprisingly decent sized patio on the side is great for warm weather though it does nothing to hide the traffic of Lake St. The house margarita is solid, but nothing special. At least it's not too sweet. The tacos were fresh but had an inordinate amount of mayo/aoli. The chips were excellent with double layered crunch and just the right amount of salt but were let down by both salsas that had the consistency of water. Worth an Al fresco trip for $5 margs and maybe their $3 pork taco.
google avatar

Cris L.

Yelp
Honestly, this was a disappointment as far as tacos go. I went with the suggested "customer favorites" for tacos which included chicken rojo, al pastor, and shrimp. These tacos just weren't good. They lacked flavor and all just seemed a bit off. I would say that the Rojo was the best of the three but not by much. The shrimp taco was kind of gross actually, it had a thick fried shell around it and the shrimp did not taste very good. I think it must've been red shrimp as it had a strange distinct quality to it. Also there was hardly any crema and the small amount that was present lacked any flavor. The al pastor taco also tasted a bit off and lack spice. The nachos were pretty soggy with the watery queso they use. The only saving grace was the margarita.

Yelp
Best tacos I've had in Minnesota remind me of my trip in Arizona top tier ! Would recommend to friends & family

Yelp
I'm happy to share with all of you a truly great restaurant! Food, service and atmosphere are all on point!! Its like nothing else I've had here in town. Moving back to MN from CA. Thank you for an enjoyable experience!

Yelp
When I lived in the area I love stopping in at this awesome Mexican spot with creative dishes and bomb tacos! Things have changed a bit since I use to visit, but it's all still delish! I had a few friends who had never been, so we decided to stop in for some tacos. I got the Shrimp Tempura, Fish Tempura, and Chicken Rojo! They were all really flavorful and tasty! We also shared the chips & salsa. The margarita I got was the Obregon which used to be my favorite because it had a little kick. It isn't as spicy as it used to be, and it's served in a bigger glass. I don't know why ...but I liked the smaller glass. That doesn't change that they still make solid margaritas! Just my weird opinion. Service was a pretty slow with only one bartender serving the whole restaurant on a Saturday afternoon & and someone coming around to pick up empty glasses/plates. I will definitely keep returning when in the area! The tacos are great, the menu is awesome!

Yelp
Can you ever really go wrong with tacos? Definitely not at Sonora Grill. This little south Minneapolis Mexican grill is an absolute gem. Upon walking in I was immediately taken back by the beauty of the restaurant. Lots of natural light pouring in showcasing all the beautiful rustic wood finishes. Our server was very friendly but the service was slow. It took about 15 minutes to get our drink order in and then another 25-30 to put our food order in. The restaurant didn't seem that busy. We were there for a late lunch on a rainy Saturday. We each had a single drink (would have had another but didn't have all day) and 3 tacos each. It was almost an hour and a half visit. I'm not sure if this is common as I have only been once. The food was incredible! All the meats were grilled to perfection and all carried their own unique flavors and textures. At $5-6 a taco this is not the cheapest taco experience you are going to find but the quality is worth every penny. Not to mention these tacos were stuffed to the brim with meat. Everything garnished with the freshest of ingredients. Unfortunately of the 3 tacos I ordered only 1 was correct. The other 2 were not what I had ordered but I wasn't upset. They were that good. I am excited to go back and try the ones I actually wanted. This would have received and 5 star rating from me if not for the slow service and not receiving the correct food. I will for sure be returning though and I am looking forward to a 5 star experience and changing my rating!

Yelp
Looking for a fresh, modern Mexican restaurant? Well, scroll no further! Just had a very flavorful date night at Sonora's new location! We got tasty cocktails, empanadas, and the sampler platter so we could try ALL the taco toppings & meats. Let me just say that the steak and shrimp were seasoned PERFECTLY & oh so tender. The tortillas were amazingly crisp... and soft at the same time? How did they do it? The empanadas won my heart above all others, though. Go give em a try on your next date night.
google avatar

Samantha S.

Yelp
Easy lunch! Love the inside and the staff is helpful making a decision for the first time! You can't go wrong with tacos. They were so good! The red is shrimp. The empandas were okay.
google avatar

Yelp
I recently picked up these delicious Tacos from @sonora_minneapolis ! Serving up a modern take on traditional Mexican food, the flavors were amazing. Stop by one of their Twin Cities locations! * Chicken Rojo Taco- chicken, chihuahua cheese, chipotle aioli, and orange salsa. * Brisket Taco- brisket, black aioli, cilantro, and onion. Fish Taco- beer battered mahi mahi, mango cucumber salsa, chipotle aioli, and cilantro.
google avatar

La Denna R.

Yelp
Wow is all I have to say when I comes to flavor at this place. The flavors are so powerful and tasty. The chicken, steak, and shrimp were seasoned well and meat cooked all to correct temperatures. The rice was flavorful with the taste of the Chile verde they used to cook with it. Every bite of the meal you could taste the freshness as well. The chips salsa, guacamole, and cheese dip is a must try. The margaritas were very well blended with a smooth blanco tequila. Go check this place out.

Yelp
It good oh my girlfriends are eating there Saturday and I hope it's going to be delicious. We plan dinner,

Paul B.

Yelp
[1] Sonora Grill -- without any notice on the menu, orally by the server, or via a sign in the restaurant -- arbitrarily adds a 4% fee for using a credit card. If the place wants to nickel & dime it needs to at least warn the customer. This is new. [2] Compared to our prior visits, the food wasn't as good. The shrimp tacos, especially, were not so good (now) and too full of batter and less taste of the shrimp (or the other items).

Jennifer B.

Yelp
This is our favorite neighborhood spot. The street tacos and queso are our favorites. A Longfellow gem.
google avatar

Shaun J.

Yelp
We just dropped in as the Hi Lo Diner was packed. It was early on Sunday around 11am ish so lots of room. I got the brisket burrito and elote. It was excellent. Unfortunately for people who came after us, there was only one person in the front of the house. She was calm and gracious, but one table got up and left before she was able to take their order. There were too many people for lunch than one person could handle.
google avatar

Stacey D.

Yelp
You can never go wrong with tacos so we decided to come here for dinner! They have a decent sized patio and it was a beautiful fall evening so we took advantage of it! We started off with some cocktails. I went with the white sangria - it was light and refreshing. This would be a great summer drink! We got the empanadas to start. I loved the pastry it was in and overall it was very good. You get two so you can share one. They are on the larger side so you could also spilt one with someone. I love being able to pick from list of tacos. My husband did the tempura shrimp - he really enjoyed it and it was one of his favorites. I did not like the tempura batter. He also got the pork guajillo. He said it was decent but preferred the shrimp. I went with the beef brisket. I liked the actual brisket but could do without the sauce. I also went with the fish taco and this was my favorite out of all 4! Would highly recommend the fish taco if torn! The tacos are packed with protein, no matter what you pick. The corn tortillas also don't fall apart. Service was very very very slow. There were only two people working as servers so they got their steps in. Just be prepared to do a lot of waiting. Parking lot available along with street parking.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Mouthwatering tacos and nachos! The service was outstanding and the ambiance was fantastic! Would highly recommend!

Marina F.

Yelp
The food was great! I just wish that they had more menu options. The chicken tinga was moist with a kick. The server we had did a good job even though the place was packed with customers. Fun Mexican vibe with great art.

Yelp
Sonora Grill has a great happy hour deal M-F 2-5pm (or so). Grab a patio seat and dive in to a $3 fish taco and $5 margarita. I appreciated the free parking and bike racks out front. My only critique is that the salsa was very thin/watery and the tacos had more sauce than other toppings.
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
Painful. I stopped writing Yelp reviews ages ago because they can be so abusive to the owners over small things, but I'm motivated to share right now. I live 3 blocks away and used to love this place, probably came here once a month if not more often. It truly sucks to give them a bad review, but they need to hear this. We got some nice weather this week and I thought I'd drop in for happy hour, having just been there for happy hour the week before. I guess I got the times of happy hour wrong. My bad. I had been sitting at the bar; the bartender dropped the check off, and it seemed high for the same thing I had ordered previously, and they didn't give me an itemized receipt, just the slip to sign. I asked a different waitress to re-check it. The bartender came back and slammed down the receipt on the counter and said, "It's not happy hour. Are you going to sign for this now?" ARE YOU GOING TO SIGN FOR THIS NOW. That's what a bartender asked me, like I was some kind of low-life trying to scam her. A little politeness would have gone a long way. Like, "Sorry, you missed happy hour - it ends at 5." But slamming the check down and saying "Are you going to sign for this" is seriously uncalled for. Like, unforgiveable for someone who has been here literally dozens of times because it's in my neighborhood and a fun place to go. I'm done. I used to be a regular, but I'm waving people off this place now. There are other places to go. Like I said, a LITTLE bit of politeness would have gone a long way. It really hurts to have to write this, but I haven't had someone mistreat me like this in ages, and to have it come from staff at a place that I like ... damn.

Yelp
We had an early-ish birthday dinner at Sonora Grill tonight and had no problem being seated with a group of 6 right away. Our server definitely undersold the drinks when I tried to ask for his recommendation. I settled on the house Margarita and it was not bad. The Beef Empanadas were a delicious and crispy appetizer and the creamy sauce was the star! The side of Guacamole was a little under seasoned but otherwise good. I ordered a side salad and two tacos and enjoyed the Chicken Pastor over the Pork Carnitas. Among the six at the table, the Shrimp Tempura was hands down the favorite. Before leaving we also ordered the Churros, which were surprisingly filled with a brown butter cream, a dulce de large maybe? SO good and worth the trip for that alone! Next time we'll come for happy hour.

Claudia P.

Yelp
Excellent Margaritas. The mushroom taco is always great. But the Fabuloso smell is overwhelming.

Sandra C.

Yelp
Why am I not here more often? I don't know. I was in the mood for a salad and I usually get the one with beets but asked the server about the Mexican salad. They recommended it and recommended adding a shrimp skewer. It was perfect. The salad would have been great on it's own but adding the grilled shrimp elevated it. I also has a brisket taco which was delicious. I sat at the bar and service was attentive without being hovering. Her recommendations really were spot on for what I was craving. The person managing was also friendly and attentive.

Yelp
I would really like to give Sonora Grill another star, but just can't because A. The service is so slow you almost think they forgot about you B. The tacos are inconsistent in quality C. The restaurant is so loud that you literally cannot hear what someone is saying across the table. On the positive side, the cocktails are all top notch and are beautifully crafted in both taste and look. The Wicked7 with the mango habanero infused tequila was so pretty with a charcoal black salted rim that I had to stop and admire it a bit. It was not as spicy as I thought and was quite good. My favorite cocktail was Judy Hits the Road (a delicious Casa Amigos tequila old fashioned with the cutest garnish of a map). Anyway, the cocktails are definitely worth the stop. If you want to order tacos, the shrimp tempura and the fish tacos are the best.

Yelp
I really liked my visit to Sonora Grill! They give you complimentary chips and salsa - who doesn't love that?! The menu also has a lot of great options that it was pretty difficult to choose! I landed on: (shared) Cachoreada - mountain of seafood and veggies, pretty yummy but would want to try something else next time Adobado - I was sold by this item because it has coconut rice. This dish was just perfect! The pork was sooo tender and easy to eat off the skewer or with a fork and knife. The flavors of the pork and coconut rice went really well with the little spice kick and white cheese salsa topped on the dish. I also got a Jaritos for a drink. Overall the thing I liked the most of Sonora's food was that although it was a fusion menu, I really felt like kept a lot of traditional flavors. Can't wait to come back!

Sonal J.

Yelp
This place is a vibe. We were immediately greeted when we walked in. Everything we had was delicious. I recommend the empanadas, Nachos with brisket, coconut rice, Carnitas tacos and chicken roja tacos. The Violeta is prob my fav drink ever. The Paloma is perfect and not too sweet. Very generous on the meat in the tacos. Not greasy. Empanadas were moist and lots of meat. You can make 2 tacos out of one. Explosion of flavors. House made hot sauce was spicy and yum. I'll be back.

Ky S.

Yelp
We decided to give Sonora a shot yesterday after several glowing reviews from friends. Arrived right at 5pm to get in front of the inevitable Saturday dinner rush. We were greeted by the bartender when we walked in and he told us we could seat ourselves at any table - so we cozied up near the bench seating at the front of the restaurant. I will note that the tables don't really have any sort of direct light above them, just a smattering of standard recessed lights all over the restaurant, so once it got dark out, it was semi-dark at the table. Not a issue for us, but low-light can be a hurdle for some so I feel it's worth pointing out. A server arrived at our table within a couple of minutes with some water and a couple of very rough looking menu and he was gone as quickly as he'd arrived. It gave us a chance to look over drinks and decide on our whole meal. It became apparent pretty quickly that the FOH staff was pretty short-handed as he seemed to be the only waiter serving the entire restaurant. The bartender was also working hard to make drinks and assist with delivering food. He came back a bit later and we put in our entire order to reduce the amount of trips he'd have to make to our table. Right after this, we were approached by a woman out of nowhere (seemed like the FOH manager or possibly the general manager) and she asked us what we needed as if we'd just walked in and seated ourselves despite having a food and drink order that we were waiting on. We told her we had just put in an order and thanked her - she didn't even respond, just gave us a dismissive look and walked away. She then sauntered back behind the bar, typing away on her laptop, applying lip liner, and occasionally glancing around while the waiter and bartender were busting their backs to get food served. For any shortcomings with the FOH, the kitchen was firing on all cylinders. Our food came out very fast, hot, accurate and the portions were generous. We had a few tacos and the fried eggplant. The chicken rojo tacos were particularly excellent. At no point did anyone ever come to check on us - this is not the fault of the servers or bartenders, they were woefully understaffed. It was unreal to see this FOH manager doing the bare minimum to assist them. We finished our food and patiently waited to get our check. After a while, I started to try to flag a one of them down so we could get out of there (something I'd never do because it seems rude, especially when they're so busy) but no luck. After 20 minutes of waiting and failed attempts to get someone to the table, I wound up approaching the bar to pay. Go for the food for sure, service may be uneven.

Yelp
Came with a few friends at around 6 on a Friday and it was super easy to get a table inside. Outside was more crowded. The patio was super adorable. The atmosphere is relaxed, with a bar in the center and a rustic Mexican vibe. The cocktails were all really fun and delicious. The food was creative and cute but the flavors weren't as intriguing as the presentation. We had the elote, hermosillo role, tacos, and a type of ceviche. I would come back for drinks on the patio if I were in the area.

Yelp
Visited from out of town. It is rare that I have gone to a restaurant lately and everything on the menu was delicious. The chips, salsa, queso, guacamole, shrimp tempura tacos, fish tacos, churros, and margaritas! So good. Went during happy hour and the drinks and tacos were a steal! $3 per taco. $5 house margaritas. What a deal. The breading on the shrimp and fish were perfection. Seasoned and sauced appropriately. A must try if you are in Minneapolis!

Yelp
Just ordered takeout tonight for dinner and I had to write a review ASAP. The food is that good. I got the brisket burrito, hubs got tacos: brisket, carnitas, and skirt steak. The meats were incredibly flavorful. My brisket was perfectly seasoned, meaty, and unctuous. The tacos are fantastic as well. The salsa that came with my burrito was the perfect pairing. We ordered the huitlacoche aioli on the side and my husband ate the last quarter of the cup straight, he loved it so much. We were both incredibly impressed with the flavors from Sonora Grill. Hubs has declared this the best Mexican in Saint Paul. Can't wait to try more soon!

Yelp
They were busy the day we arrived and although they were short staffed and took longer to get our orders, they did communicate about the wait time. My food was delicious, probably the best chicken flautas I've ever had and I enjoyed my chips and salsa and tres leeches cake. It almost tastes like flavor fusion on some classics. Inside the restaurant there is a bar that has a beautiful red glow which seems to make the atmosphere warmer. I'll definitely go back.

Yelp
The food wasn't great, but was much worse was the service. I asked for crema on the side of my dish to the food runner, and she acted super annoyed and said, "You mean sour cream?" Also, they forgot multiple things with the food, and weren't attentive at all. We were halfway through our meal, and the bartender dropped the check which made us feel really awkward. We are both servers in fine dining, and understand mistakes happen. We just didn't like how we were treated when we were being patient and polite. We just expect kindness in return. Not recommended, not going back. Irritable staff makes for a bad experience every time.
