Heaven for Greek food lovers.
As someone who’s struggled to find a good Greek grocery store in the GBA, I was thrilled to discover Sophia’s Greek Pantry, thanks to their viral yogurts. Being a huge sucker for taramasalata, I couldn’t resist picking up a few varieties, along with some smoked bacon, a dessert, and of course, their famous yogurts.
What sets their yogurt apart is the unique “yogurt station”—a dedicated section where they sell it by the pound. I tried the honey black cherry and honey coconut flavors. Both were high quality (similar to the premium yogurts you’d find at Whole Foods). The coconut flavor was subtle, almost understated, while the black cherry was bold and fruity.
Among the three types of taramasalata I tried, the Greek Style Caviar Spread from Krinos was my favorite. Though not house-made, it was remarkably similar to the version I loved at Bar Vlaha. Its briny, umami-packed flavor made it an excellent pairing for meat dishes I cooked at home. Another good find was the smoked bacon from Balkan—not at all salty, with a satisfyingly bouncy texture.
The pantry also has an extensive selection of house-made spreads, pies, pastries, and Greek delicacies like marinated octopus and seafood salad. Will definitely go back to explore more.
