Loved the authentic Cuban flavors! The pork was perfectly seasoned and tender, the white rice was fluffy, and the potatoes were deliciously crisp and flavorful. Great home-style taste and very friendly service — I’ll definitely come back again!

I ordered the Monday special which was a Cuban sandwich with rice and beans. I only received rice and beans. The place looks nice, but they did give me the main part of my meal.

Come here pretty often for a hearty lunch. Let me say, it is always delicious! I have had the Oxtail, the chicken quarter and the Pernil, and all have been tasty and fresh. Make sure you try their yucca, its sublime. They have a lunch special as well which is reasonably priced for the are. Great service, very fast and responsive to questions.

Make sure you ask for gravy. Also, if you get breaded chicken it will be half the portion if chicken as the grilled. Weird. But everything is great. Food is great. Staff is nice. And the blonde with the glasses is 😍😍

We happened to be in the area, got hungry and found this place. We love Cuban food so we definitely want to give it a try. It was late afternoon, early dinner time, guess a lot of food including oxtails were either gone or they were not ready yet. There were not many options. The salmon and chicken legs were decent, a little on the tough side but they’re delicious, the sweet plantains were good. Their green sauce was amazing, the freshness and spiciness of the sauce simply pushed the flavor of the food into next level. Happy with their service. Decent prices given it is in downtown, can be a little lower because it’s more like a fast food type restaurant

Absolutely love the food. Some of the staff needs a bit of smiling and friendliness. Otherwise, I would have giving it 5 stars 🌟. Me and my son have come a couple of times to see the environment on different dates and it changes by the staff encounter. The food still delish!!!!

Flavored ingredients. The chicken is a bit dry but serviceable. The plantain is sweet, a highlight of the meal. The rice was moist but also slightly undercooked. The portion size was on the generous side. I'll have to eat here again before rendering a final judgement, but I think there'll need to be some tradeoff in this neighborhood, and this one may be worth it.

Flavorful Finds with a Few Misses (and a Leap of Faith) Craving some classic Spanish comfort food, I swung by this spot and took a generous variety of dishes home to enjoy. I was a bit hesitant at first since the restaurant had a pending rating--always a gamble--but curiosity (and hunger) won out. The sweet plantains were just right--nicely caramelized with that soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture that makes you pause and smile. The yellow rice and beans brought real depth to the plate--aromatic, seasoned well, and altogether satisfying. The shredded beef had great flavor, tender and tasty with a nice balance of seasoning. The stewed chicken? Definitely worth repeating--juicy, savory, and cooked just how you want it. Oxtail was a bit underwhelming though; not as tender as expected and could've used a touch more love. The baked chicken, unfortunately, missed the mark. It didn't taste fresh, and that made it the low point of the meal. All in all, I was happy to bring the food home and enjoy the variety. Tried their tostones, yummy! Their chuletas are a bit dry, and the empanadas wasnt warm enough for the cheese to be melty. But love the green sauce and friendly service. Big empanada and the interior space looks big enough to fit many people. Its a nice place at the corner and tucked on a small street.

We ordered here for lunch. We got a delivery time of 12:25pm-12:35pm. When our food didn't come at 12:50pm, we called the number listed for the next 45 minutes as it just went to voicemail. We finally got a hold of someone at 1:35 who said the driver just left with the food and should be there in 10 min. Our food was delivered at 1:50pm but there were many items missing. Our order of tostones, grilled chicken breakfast lunch and a drink was not included. Overall, disappointed that not only were they late, they didn't have all the food ordered. Only pro would be that the food that got delivered did have generous portions. Otherwise, the whole experience was negative.

The food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!! I got the Wednesday Special, which is baked chicken, rice, and black beans. All of this for $9.99 and I got a great portion. I went to the Tribeca location, 325 Broadway. I stopped by a few hours earlier as I was walking around looking for dinner options and promised that I'd be back before they closed at 8 pm. I'm soooo glad I came back and ordered my scrumptious meal!!! I highly recommend this spot. #yummyfood #niceandclean #excellentprices

Walking around the FiDi area and needed a quick pick me up! Ordered the Spinach & Cheese Empanada - super tasty as the crust was flaky, crunch, buttery while it had a lot of filling. This was the perfect snack to get mid-walk. This place gave homemade energy and really had various plates and snacks available. Can't really review this place to its fullest because we only tried the empanada.

Went in to grab some empanadas. I got the beef and spinach and cheese empanadas. Both were tasty and would be back to try one of their plates. Interested in the Monday special, the oxtail stew. Plenty of tables to sit at and dine in if you want.

Always love getting some take out empanadas from here! The place is very vibrant and fun and they are very fast to fulfill orders. Had the chicken, cheese, and beef empanadas and can say you can't go wrong with any of them! While I'm not a big olive fan, the beef empanadas contain them but somehow they make it work and taste amazing. Their green sauce is also very addicting and a great use on almost every dish.

If you don't mind a food coma after lunch, definitely try this out. We usually get the lunch specials, and today I got the slow-roasted mojo pork with rice, sweet plantains, and fried plantain. Unfortunately, they didn't have the oxtail on Thursdays (only on M, W and F), so I opted for the pork. The pork was very juicy and flavor -- would recommend it!

We really love coming to eat at Sophie's anytime we visit New York. I just want to pre warn people about their pernil, it is very flavorful BUT also very very salty... they use way too much salt. Love their green sauce and cafe con leche. Rice and beans and maduro are all good too. Went there yesterday for some coffee at 7, but they shut the machine down already which was disappointing since they close at 8.

Their empanadas are delicious. We love the beef, chicken, cheese, and guava and cheese ones. The fillings are generous and super tasty. My favorite is the beef bc it has green olives in it and is full of flavor. We also tried their mango, papaya, and passion fruit smoothies. The mango was our favorite, but they were all yummy. Everyone in the store is friendly and efficient. The store itself is clean. We sat there tasting different empanadas and enjoyed the atmosphere. We look forward to going back and trying their different foods.

Well Sophies IM BACK AFTER MORE THAN 3YRS !! For context I didnt like my last meals due to lack of taste. Sophie's YOU HAVE TOTALLY REDEEMED YOURSELF! I took 2 friends with me I ordered PERNIL my friend chicken and my other salmon. Keep this chef!! He knows what flavor is ! We also ordered an empanada and a papa rellena it was perfect! Sophie's you got a customer back. Next will try OXTAILS AND THE STEAK. GOOD JOB !

I happened to be nearby and decided to finally try this restaurant. This restaurant has won me over. Staff members had a good sense of humor that enhanced our visit. Their meals deliver on taste and volume. After relocating to the area, discovering this restaurant was wonderful.

Love the 2 or 3 side platters! They are worth the price and very generous in their portions. They have different types of rice, you can either get white or yellow rice. Many sides to choose from such as veggie medley, yucca, Maduros, and beans. What I love about this place is their green sauce! Omg it tastes so delicious! No place can compete with this place when it comes to their green sauce. Consistency and spice level is just right!! It's not too watery and spicy to the point you're panting for water or crying. I always order baked chicken and it comes out tender when you pull the meat apart. Lots of seating in this location so it's not hard to miss a spot.

Sophie's Cuban Cuisine is a favorite of mine. I like the Cuban Sandwich. I share the Cuban with my daughter. She loves the sauces. I'm a huge fan of the Empanadas. I guess you could say I'm addicted to them. If I'm hungry and in the neighborhood of a Sophie's location I have to stop in for the empanadas. The service at this location is typical of the others I've visited. I just kill them with kindness. If you are a big eater it might get expensive. There's no shortage on items to choose from. I'm recommending you visit!

Delivery service is horrible I didn't receive my food....... Never ordering again although their food is good

This restaurant is cafeteria style for anyone that may have an issue with that which basically means you come up to the counter to select your food and take it back to your table. There is no server to take your order and bring it to your table but that did not bother me at all. I ate the white rice with stewed black beans with grilled chicken breast and veggies. The rice and beans were flavorful and delicious. I love rice and beans and that has to be right if I'm at a Latino restaurant of any culture. The grilled chicken breast was a little dry but still tasty and very well seasoned. Veggies a little spicy but it added even more flavor to the chicken. Overall the food was delicious and because it is right around the corner from my local comic book shop is more reason I will be back here when in the area and looking for a good meal.

This place is the BEST! I'm from out of town and I'm Puertorican and every time I come to New York I make sure to eat here. The food is authentically Cuban but also Puertorican as well share many of the same foods. If you're a fan of Puertorican/cuban cuisine at an affordable price and and made right. Come here!

I got the shredded beef with plantains and yellow rice and beans, and it was absolutely delicious. I did pickup with MealPal (I have a referral link at the bottom where we'd both get a $25 Amazon gift card if you sign up) where you go in, tell someone you're here for MealPal, then scan the QR code with your MealPal app. I didn't have to wait in line for MealPal and they were able to give me my dish really quickly, and there's a park nearby that you can eat your lunch in. There's also a Lots Less that has good inventory right across the street, so this Sophie's is a good destination. The plaintains weren't that crispy but that might have been because I didn't consume them immediately and they were inside a plastic container, but the caramlized flavor was still incredible and the texture was a nice n chewy one. The shredded beef was honestly ok but coupled with the green sauce and the yellow rice an beans, it was a hearty meal. There was so much food that I had leftovers for basically a second meal. This is my favorite Sophie's location in midtown Manhattan. Compared to the other two the customer service and food can't be beat. Not too long ago I hit up the one near Port Authority and when I asked a question the staff looked at me like I had grown an extra head in front of them. When I went to the location near my office (on the East side) I was dismayed to see that the containers they put their meals in are a LOT smaller than they used to be. This location is the one that is most like the original Sophie's I went to way back when. First, the staff is super friendly and if you ask a question they happily answer. When you have them put a meal together for you, they still use the older aluminum containers that can fit a lot of food in them. Also, the food is absolutely *delicious*. The quality of the food has not changed at all and I love it every time I go!

There was no time to capture a picture of Sophie's Cuban Cuisine baked salmon with yellow rice and black beans because it was consumed that quickly. Therefore, a second baked salmon entrée was purchased, for Yelp picture purposes only, consisting of yellow rice, yuca with garlic sauce, and an extensive amount of baked salmon gravy over EVERYTHING. Both entrées tasted as though they were home cooked. The baked salmon, yellow rice, and yuca with garlic sauce contained Cuban seasonings compelling you to purchase another entrée. Per Sophie's Cuban Cuisine website menu, each entrée is suppose to come with three ( 3 ) sides and NOT the TWO sides received during both baked salmon purchases. A small baked salmon entrée was eaten on day one and then again on day two by two people with each bite tasting better than the last bite. However, the price point paid for the entrée would have the expectation of a salmon "slice" larger than one inch diameter in width. When the salmon is chosen from the center, you actually get a less than one inch width of salmon to eat. Although the salmon pictured was near the tail and wider than one inch, it was much thinner than the thicker center cut previously purchased (See Picture). Sophie's Cuban Cuisine yellow rice even tasted better than the rice and beans purchased with fried whiting fish from an unrelated food venue. This was a shocking revelation indeed! Four and half star rating because of the baked salmon's incredibly small portion size along with the customer having to request an additional scoop of yellow rice in the already small entrée.

I was wandering in the city when I stumbled upon this little hole in the wall. The food was delicious and warm, filled with variety. I paid a little under $15 for their two empanadas and rice combo. They also give you a beverage with your meal. I was so happy for all the food I received for this price. Service was quick and they were patient as I made up my mind. I definitely see myself going back.

I have tried this place several times to see if I am just getting the wrong things. Nope, it is just bad. The chicken always tastes under cooked, the salmon lacks seasoning. Today I tried the oxtail. It was overpriced, and like the chicken under cooked. Not the fall off the bones savory oxtails you would get elsewhere. To top it all off, they gave me three pieces of oxtail and charged $20. Very overpriced Spanish food I just got two empanadas cheeses and chicken. A total of $8.24 the service was alright I felt rushed when I was looking g at the menu. Overall the food wasn't too bad the empanadas were tiny but they just had a lot of juice.

I wanted to give this spot a try. I've tried a different location and it was super bland. This location was no better. I ordered the fish sandwich and it smelled like BV. The taste was not pleasing either. Don't come here expecting authentic Cuban food, I'm not sure where all the hype came from for this place, but It's a hard pass for me.

Been coming to Sophie's since 2010 when they used to be on John St., if memory serves me right. Anyway, if you are look for a quick, great tasting, reasonably priced Latin meal, this is the place. You might not want to go back to work after such a hearty meal. However, they also offer empanadas and an array of pressed sandwiches for those looking for a lighter meal. All delicious.

I'm not even sure if this was real Latin food! Went on a Friday night for dinner and I did not like this place and thought the food was tasteless! Even the rice was nasty! I'm an Empanada head so I know a good one, but these chicken empanadas were a miss! Something was really missing and I expected more of this place...The best thing was the passion fruit juice and customer service...

Big portion of food! We're walking around pier 17 or seaport and trying to get something to eat and found this place. They have a ready made food and line for to go food and they have chairs for dine in customers. The place is pretty hot because it looks like they don't have ac. So when you order entree you get to pick 3 types of side for free. I got the baked chicken with yellow rice, steamed vegetables and yucca with garlic. Imagine how big this plate is. The chicken is well marinated, juicy and tasty. I enjoyed my meal but I didn't finish it and take the rest to go. My bf got the pernil with plantain and rice with beans. Delicious combo! You got a little bit of everything. He said its the best thing ever. Wow! Haha. Service is great and food was good!

I usually like this place as the food has good flavor however this last time I went the food (yellow rice & beans and salmon) taste old and as if it was spoiling. Maybe they had it sitting ofr to long but it was mushy and smelled odd. The empanada however was good.

The chicken empanada is dry & beef empanada is spicy, both have flaky crust, spicy green sauce is included; fries are not crispy, big portion. The oxtail/beans/veggies/rice dish has old tasting rice & too much fatty meat. Restaurant has good amount of seating but too hot from all the cooked food & no air.

Horrible customer service. Asked for a beef and chicken empanada and the cashier refused to tell me which was which. Turns out both were chicken when I asked for one to Be changed she gave a horrible attitude and proceeded to make a joke out of it with her coworker, when I asked to speak with the manager it turns out the coworker was the manager and made a joke out of it. Avoid this place if possible!

Oxtail special on Fridays is so good, especially on top of the yellow rice. The guy in front helping with the order is so nice too and gives me big portions.

Was craving some rice and beans and found this place. It was relatively busy on a weekday afternoon. I was the only customer waiting to get something to go and stood there for literally almost 15 minutes while tons workers were behind the counter but seems like no one wanted to work, not even making any eye contact while one lady was occupied with another customer's to go order. Finally a gentleman helped me and recommended me to get the beef stew. I got the beef stew with fried plantain and rice and beans. And was surprised it cost nearly $16 dollars for it although the portion was large. Everything tasted ok but something was missing from the flavors. Overall, I guess if you're in the area and craving for Cuban food, this is your place, otherwise go somewhere else

Working close to 3 different Sophie's locations, I have been spoiled with the presence of Sophie's in my life. There may be long lines (food is so good that people keep coming back), but service is quick and the food is absolutely worth the wait. When I feel like splurging on lunches, Sophie's has been my go-to spot for years. It is hard to rationalize paying $10 for a sandwich, but I am willing to spend every penny for a sandwich from here. The Cuban is my favorite especially during days when I get it "with a twist" (plantains in the sandwich = heaven), but the other sandwich options come as close seconds. Although it was not my favorite, with two layers of deep fried fish, the Fish sandwich is definitely not lacking meat and makes for a filling meal. My only wish is that they would put more tartar sauce next time and maybe tomatoes inside the sandwich to top it all off, but I am still a happy camper with its current form. If you are not resistant to spending $13 on lunch, go for one of their entrées that comes with 2 sides. The classics for me have been the (1) baked salmon, (2) breaded chicken, or (3) oxtail, all of which are fabulous. I have never wavered from my classic side selections: plantains (I mean, come on, you're at a Cuban restaurant) and rice with beans. Ask for extra green sauce on the side if you are a fan; they'll give it to you. I normally just pour the whole container of green sauce on my entrée as a primary measure before digging into that tasty meal.

One of the better Sophie's in NYC. Really generous portions (except for the Chicken Soup...a little Hale & Hearty feel with those scoops...). Bomb empanadas. Courteous staff. Tons of seating. Clean. Everything was well packed. Will swing by every time I'm in this area of FiDi.

Always a staple... I absolutely love everything about this place and this location in particular. Every meal feels like a home cooked meal. I'm very fond of the steak sandwich with a twist. The twist is the sweet (always sweet and delicious) plantains put inside of the sandwich. The steak is tender and flavorful. The bread is perfect. I typically always get a side of yellow rice, sometimes with black beans which I mix in to my own liking, and then I drench it with green sauce (have no clue what it's actually called but I love it). The Cuban sandwich is tasty as well. I recently tried the mango shake not realizing it was indeed a shake (with whole milk) and not the smoothie I imagined in my head, but I couldn't help but to drink it as it was so good. About the space, there is a good amount of seating and it can get very crowded at lunch time. I recommend calling ahead if you want lunch to go or running from your office if you want to dine in. There's seating in the front window for those who like to dine out alone as well and people watch (my favorite sport). Enjoy

Sophies can get extremely busy during lunch hours as its in a great neighborhood and has amazing prices. You are usually able to walk in and grab a seat quickly, the service is always great and the food always comes out quickly. They have there typical weekly specials that come with 2 sides, I could never decide between the baked chicken meal and the cuban sandwich which are both great. Definitely a great place to catch a quick Spanish meal for a great price

This is by far the worst Cuban restaurant I've ever been to, only reason I gave it two stars it's cause the fried sweet plantains was good (who could mess it up) and the lemonade besides that I'd give it 0 if I could. I only came here cause I was at the hospital and wanted Spanish food and this was the closest I could get walking distance , I should have gotten pizza ‍. Anyways food was disgusting We got the yellow rice and beans , the garlic shrimp , spicy chicken & let me just say their salad is a slap in the face . Overall don't waste your time if you're looking for good Spanish food not worth it . I'm sure Burger King would be better , blend AF

I have tried and tried again to support this restaurant near my office. I am ALWAYS ALWAYS disappointed. Today I ordered yuca and roasted chicken. The ENTIRE order of yuca was basically inedible because it was essentially RAW - harder than raw potato. This is something that is so easily remedied with smaller pieces and longer cooking time. BUT THEY DON'T CARE FOR THE CUSTOMER. Months ago I tried twice ordering Rabo (oxtail stew), white rice (RAW grains everywhere) and black beans. This is a great concept but terribly disrespectful to Cuban and Caribbean cuisine. I'm done. You've failed me too many times!

A cold and slow office weekday, you cannot go wrong to get their cuban sandwich and special oxtail stew. You can dine in or get it to go. If you dine in, then find a table first before order. The bathroom required door code (..lol). Overall experience is good and the lunch price went up more than I expected. So, is it still considering as working class lunch.
