Sophie's Cuban Cuisine - Midtown West

Went here with my coworkers to get lunch. This is the second location I've been to and the line is a bit long during lunchtime but goes by quickly. Their green sauce is really good and def recommend getting a platter. The shredded beef was tender and was flavorful. The empanada esp the beef one hits every single time!

Quick service and food is delicious. Great lunchtime option with daily specials.

I have been going to Sophie’s for years and the food never disappoints!! I got the shredded beef stew this time and it was just as good as always, especially with the green sauce, which is a little bit spicy (not too hot though). I will definitely come again.

I kept telling myself I will go here one day as I have heard good things of this place. Today I went with a friend and I had the breaded chicken with yellow rice. I made a mistake on my order and put 3 sides as rice on the kiosk. Either way I enjoyed the food and told my friend we should come back tomorrow. I want to try the salmon and other options. It was a quiet place at the time we went and we was also able to catch up with work stuff. I look forward to going back.

I was extremely disappointed with our visit, the lines were long, so we thought we had hit the jackpot. There’s a few things I would change number one the lunch specials none of which include an actual meat with rice and beans. For example, one lunch special was a Cuban sandwich with a side of rice and beans which makes no sense. The way they organize the food was bad. They had rice, meats, beans, sides, all intermingled in the same section and they have two carts of food. Because the staff rush you through the line, we unfortunately ordered our food, while we were in front of the first section, so we missed out on other sides and meats available in the section closest to the register. The food was rather bland for Cuban food, I love Caribbean food and this did not hit the mark. We ordered 2 meals, 2 sodas, an empanada and stuff potato and paid over $50 way more than I expected to pay for such small portions of food.

This place is insufferable. Different location same stank attitude. The cashier lady was walking away while I was at the register trying to order empanadas. I had to flag her down WHILE IN HER FACE to get some service. I asked for the 3 empenada special. Chicken. She gave me 3 beef. She just threw it so angrily in the bag and didn't give any utensils or green sauce. Note to owner: Your female workers have deplorable customer service. The beef empenada isn't even good. I should've just gone to Wendy's.

Excellent Cuban food! I loved the meat and the plantains in particular. I wish there was more seating for lunch, but it's still worth bringing back to your home or office.

We got the yellow rice with oxtail and breaded chicken. The oxtail was tender Nd yummy. Chickpeas were fine and I loved the green plaintains with green sauce. 50 cents for a small small pot of sauce but it makes a difference. The chicken was a bit dryer and the avocado wirh white beans was mostly beans with 3 cubes of avocado haha. Skimping a bit. This hit the spot if you're looking for a savory fix of Cuban food but I think you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

I'd never been in here and so we finally stepped in here and did enjoy it , we ordered the chicken breast with rice and beans , it was tasty. The service is fast and the ambiance is that of a midtown Manhattan lunch spot with fair pricing . I'd come back when craving good Cuban food at a good price.

Hard to beat Sophie's! They have multiple locations and they all have delicious food. Im always on a search for good Cuban Food and Sophie's lives up to that search. I order the baked chicken with rice, veggies, and sweet plantains. The chicken was very tender and juicy, no complaints! The sweet plantains were some of the best plantains I've had from a restaurant. Definitely will be back.

Food was good. Some of its items is similar to the dominican food,like the black beans rice

People are so weird. This is the prototype, the standard-bearer, for nutritious, filling, inexpensive, lunch in midtown. For like $12 you can get the quarter chicken and a plate filled with rice and beans. Though there are dozens of imitators and some spots "come close," the price point means that the value here is second to none. You can spend twice this amount quite easily and end up with less protein and carbs and a hell of a lot less consistency.

Sophie's as been in my periphery for a while - they have multiple locations in Manhattan and I have frequently passed them during my travels to and from work. My colleagues and I had an open block in our calendars around lunch time the other day, and since none of us had tried Sophie's before we decided to head there and check it out. Since I work in Midtown there are a couple of Sophie's in close proximity. We decided to head to the one in Midtown West since it was equidistant to the one on the east side to us. We arrived slightly after the lunch rush so there weren't too many people in line, and while this is mainly a takeout spot, they do have some tables in the back if you want to sit. The primary flow is to get in line along the display cases which houses all the food - you can build your dish as you move down the line and place an order for a sandwich at this time as well. The menu has a good selection of Cuban dishes - I was in the mood for a sandwich and even though I was tempted to try the traditional Cuban, I decided on a Turkey Cuban since it was speaking to me more. The tostones looked good so I decided to grab a side of those as well. Overall the sandwich was good - it was large so if you're not hungry there's definitely enough to save for later. The turkey was seasoned well and it came with green sauce to enhance the sandwich overall. I had Cubans when I was in Miami this past spring and while it's not as good as those, I think the sandwich from Sophie's holds its own. The tostones were also good - not greasy and again it came with a sauce that enhanced the flavor. Service was good - we were taken care of promptly and everyone was friendly. Overall, I had a good first experience at Sophie's - I wouldn't come here regularly since I feel the food is kinda heavy for a lunch option, however the food is good which makes me a fan. I'm happy to add it to my list of Midtown spots if I'm ever in the mood for some Cuban again.

I tend to visit Sophies for their empanadas but decided to try out an entree and sammie this time. We ordered the pernil with yuca and moro rice sides. Overall the meal was just ok, the pork was missing seasoning and the yuca was missing the tangy undertones that distinguish a classic yuca side. The Cuban sand which was solid but again, not the best Ive ever had. Was pleasantly surprised they had colombiana/manzana - my favorite Colombian drinks! The beef and chicken empanadas are always a go-to which will likely have me returning. Ask for some green sauce to elevate your experience. First time at this location, relatively empty on a Friday evening. I think this deserves a 3/5 on the Latin food scale BUT given its convenience and mediocre competition in the city, Sophie's is a good option 4/5 for hot-plate style Latin food.

I've eaten at various Sophie's and I'll tell you why... the food is downright delicious! If you are looking for authentic Cuban food at reasonable prices then Sophie's is your place. Each establishment is consistent: good location, courteous, fast service and the food is delicious. Today I visited their midtown location for a quick bite pre- matinee. This location is in the heart of the Theatre district so it is perfect for a pre Matinee bite. I arrived by noon which gave me an hour to eat and enjoy my lunch. I knew lunchtime in this area is always hectic and with the weather getting warmer everyday, no one wants to brown bag it. What's great at Sophie's? Everything! I highly recommend their black beans and rice; the beans are so creamy and have a great taste. Their platanos ( fried bananas) taste like caramel. But the true star is The Cuban. If you love pressed sandwiches this is the one to get! The El Cubano houses roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, Mayo, mustard and garlic sauce on their house made bread. I always order their green sauce on the side and spread it between the meats. Simply delicious! Que Rico indeed! Sophie's offers other delicious options: various empanadas, pernil, oxtail stew, grilled, breaded and baked chicken, steak and onions stuffed potatoes and so much more. There is truly something for everyone. This location is spacious as compared to their Upper East Side and Flatiron location. Sophie's does have a little competition a block away, Havana Central. I've dined at Havana Central, yes it has a bit more frills to it, but the food does not compare to Sophie's. So if you are looking for a quick visit to Cuba, Sophie's is truly ' Havana Central'!

After trekking through the flower markets, we needed lunch. I spotted Sophie's, and we went in. I was excited to see "yuca with garlic" on the menu, but alas they were not yuca fritas. So I passed. Had the Cubano and my mother had a green salad. They don't have Cuban coffee. The Cubano was good. It wasn't pressed in a panini press. The green sauce was very spicy! My mother liked her salad. This was a great spot for a quick little lunch in Midtown, and the service was really friendly and helpful. There's no table service. You order and pay at the counter, then pick up your food. The restaurant was clean. Masks aren't required if you're fully vaccinated. This is more authentic than some "Cuban" places, such as Cuba Cuba in CO, which are more geared towards American tastes. The Cubano wasn't the best that I have ever had, but it was quite good. The salad was fresh and crisp.

Poor customer service. I would recommend a course in customer service. If someone is having a bad day don't bother to clock I. O one else should have to deal with their personal issues.

Five years after my original review I recently revisited Sophie's and man, I am so happy to report that everything is still fantastic at this spot. The interior has not changed a lot, with a long counter in the front area and seating in the back. The menus behind the counter are a bit more colorful (and the prices have inevitably gone up in our post-lockdown world) but overall this is the same awesome restaurant I remember from before. Over the years, Sophie's has expanded, with many locations spread out in the area. I've gone to most of them but to this day nothing beats the friendliness at this location. At other locations when I've asked questions I get responses ranging from quizzical to annoyance. Here I was just greeted by big smiles and all my questions were answered in a wonderfully pleasant manner. During my most recent visit I picked up a couple of my old favorites to see if they were still good. This included the Baked Chicken with mixed vegetables, Yucca and rice with beans. I am happy to report these dishes are all every bit as delicious as they were in the past. I also tried the stuffed mashed potatoes with chicken. I recall in the past these had pork or beef in them, but you know what's impressive? The flavor is every bit as good and savory. One other interesting thing about this location. Traditionally Sophie's packages its food in semi-flexible foil containers with plastic lids. However, when I went to a couple of the other locations recently they had switched to smaller plastic containers with divided sections. This effectively meant they could not fit as much food into the container as they used to (all while prices were higher). This is not ideal for the customer, but I get it, business suffered badly during the pandemic and they needed to make some business decisions. That said, *this* location still does it the old fashioned way and I wound up having enough left overs from my meal to have it as lunch the next day! Sophie's was awesome in the past and I'm glad to see it's still excellent to this day.

Great value for a huge platter of food (the plantains were delicious! Pernil I found a bit dry and needed to eat it with the green sauce, next time I might try oxtail instead) Coffee is only $3 but make sure to specify if you want milk or not because default is espresso shot poured into milk.

I had a Cuban sandwich and sweet plantains delivered. The sandwich was delicious, pressed to crispy, buttery perfection. It came with a green spicy sauce which was quite good.

Cuban food isn't exactly easy to come by in Midtown Manhattan but Sophie's definitely satisfies that craving. It's one of my go to's when I want some island flavors and some hefty portions to boot. A couple heaping spoons of rice, ample beans and a handful of sweet plantains comes with your platter order and that doesn't even account for the protein. Typically I get the roast pork and shrimp and they sure don't skimp on the portions as the photograph shows. I can't remember the last time I sat down for lunch and finished an entire plate. There's always leftovers for dinner or the next day - all for a mere $20. Sofie's is and will remain one of my go to lunch spots as long as I work in Manhattan.

Small chicken & rice $50?? They are extremely greedy here they give a big a$$ amount of rice and 2 small pieces of chicken. I had to ask for extra the lady said it's extra charge for an extra piece of chicken but $25 each for small chicken & rice a RIP OFF!!!!!!! such a shame

Ordered delivery from here for dinner. Came pretty fast in 30 minutes. The food was good and came packaged well. I love the green sauce they have here - I pour it onto everything.... literally! I tried the spinach and cheese empanada. It wasn't cheesy, but again, green sauce makes everything taste great! I also got the baked chicken plate with yellow rice, beans, and garlic yuka. The chicken was juicy. The rice and beans were also tasty. I didn't like the garlic yuka- it tasted strange to me and was hard. Wouldn't get this as a side again.

Horrible employees. We will not be back. We have a small company that spends a few thousand dollars a week on lunch for our employees and we used to come here 2-3 times a month. The employees here are rude and unhelpful. One of them spilled one of our lunches in the bag and did nothing besides tell us to "be careful." When we asked for extra green sauce they flat out told us "no, only 1 per customer." The portions have gone down significantly and the chicken I had was dry and tasteless. On top of that, the people that work here are a bunch of useless idiots. One of them yelled at us to hurry up and pay while we were still waiting for our last plate to be made. After we paid, they realized they didn't charge us for the last one and ended up wasting even more time.

I love sophies. They are a chain all around the city. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. My go to is the salmon with rice and beans. They also have mash potatoes balls with meat (otherwise known as rellanos de papas) I'm not a fan as their mash is rather dry. The empanadas on the other hand are absolutely amazing. Oh and you mush try the green sauce, that's a game changer!

Came by here for lunch and got a cuban sandwich. It pork and a very good layer of melted cheese. I used to come here for lunch, it has a pretty good lunch deal with two sides and an entree, I remember the portions were huge and pretty generous. I really like the beef/oxtail and they usually had daily specials on a rotating basis. This time, decided to get the sandwich. The cheese was so perfectly stringy and melted. I thought the flavor was great too. My only complaint is that this portion size was small and it's definitely smaller than what I recall from my prior lunches, so a little bit expensive for the sandwich. Recommend getting the entree and their sides though!

The portions are huuuugee!! So if you're looking for good value, this is the place to go. The food is very average and I cannot say it was my favorite Cuban meal. I had a meal through mealpal and orders the steak, butter rice, and vegetables. The vegetables and rice were slightly oily, but was quite tasty. The steak, although quite large, was super dry and salty. Overall, it seemed like a good atmosphere for quick sit down or a takeout meal. The restaurant is very big, and has sufficient seating. I would warn slightly that your hair and clothes will smell of the restaurant just by being there for around 10 mins.

Overpriced, portions are small. Quality is not what it once was. The green sauce they used has changed. I would not recommend. I got a size "large" and was still very hungry afterwards. I asked for avocado as a slice and gave me the smallest slice of avocado. I'm sorry but very disappointing

Well, we tried Sophie's again. This time steak with onions and fried fish. The steak was dry and rubbery. The onion portion was stingy. The fish was the worst piece of fried fish in history. It was a paper thin piece of severely overcooked fish coated with a breading that was like eating cardboard. It as so dry you could barely chew it. The only good thing was, again, the sweet bananas. The chick peas were tasteless and the pickled onions were not great. This food had to be sitting on a steam table for at least 6 hours. We threw most of it out. How do they operate 5 restaurants by serving overcooked, dry, tastless food like this. Like I said, I'll give it another try. This, unfortunately, is my last.

I'm so happy Sophie's is so close to my office. Most of my options for lunch are very depressing (highly over-priced mediocre food), so I'm glad I stumbled across Sophie's only a few blocks away! It's definitely hard to find such tasty meals for such reasonable prices in general, let alone in the middle of Manhattan. I love their platter selections, which come with a protein and three sides for about $13. (And I've gotten several meals out of each of these.) I usually get yellow rice with black beans, sweet plantains, and for proteins so far I've tried pernil (pulled pork) and beef brisket. Both are incredibly flavorful and tender, and the sides go amazingly with them. You can tell they put a lot of care even in the detail of their side dishes. The yellow rice is always flavorful and soft in texture, with pieces of veggies to add texture. Even though they clearly make large amounts, the food tastes as if it were made just for you. I also had the chance to try their selection of empanadas. Their shells are crispy and not too thick, and the fillings are always generous and, again, flavorful. My favorites are the chicken, beef, and guava (sweet) empanadas. The are about $2.50 each and I've felt full after eating two of them. Last, but not least, a meal here would not be complete without their special green sauce, which goes well on everything (maybe except for the guava empanada). This location has a dine in area even though most people order takeout. This food also tastes great reheated, so it's also a reliable option for "meal prepping" for the week.

I walked by and started craving black beans and rice. $6.99 and they didn't even fill the container full. The restaurant had no yummy Cuban food aroma in the air - there was really no food smell in the air. The rice had some water in it, were clumpy and lukewarm. Beans were watery and absolutely no flavor or salt! Bland!! I'm Cuban so I have eaten lots of rice and beans in my life. These were the lamest ones I have ever had!

My family is Cuban and I grew in a predominately Cuban neighborhood with access to fresh and authentic Cuban food. I was not surprised that this overly priced, midtown location would miss the mark for me! First of all since when is black beans eaten with yellow rice? That's a gringo thing for sure! Surely this place was packed with the corporate suits packing on the yellow rice with black beans. The authentic way is white rice with black beans and pigeon peas with yellow rice. What's with this green sauce everyone was drowning their food in? The green sauce is Peruvian if I am not mistaken. I have had green sauce at Peruvian restaurants and it is very tasty indeed but people should know it is NOT authentic to Cuban cuisine! I took one look at the cafeteria style food, it already looked dry by 1pm so I opted for a Cuban sandwich instead. I chose the potato sticks in the sandwich but we all know a real Cuban does not have the potato sticks, the steak sandwiches do! But that was my choice. The taste of the pork and ham was decent enough but the bread was as stale as the soles of my shoes! I sure as heck know what delicious fresh Cuban bread taste like and this bread was horrible! To add to the insult it was $11 and change for a sandwich when I can have a significantly better authentic Cuban in West New York or Union City, NJ for $8.50. It would have been a nice treat to have a Cuban spot near work but after today's experience I rather wait for weekends and stick to my regular authentic spots.

This place is OK for Cuban. I had Cuban Sandwich and it was OK. The lunch special that I had came with soup, which was great for cold weather season. This place offers lots of seating during peak hours and a server to tender to your ordering. In terms of quality and taste, this place is ok as there are other better Cubans in the area, but they are mostly crowded. Thus, rendering this place a great place to go under crowded times and for better enjoyment times

I've been to several Sophie's locations around in NYC, and while I've mainly focused on their sandwiches, I have filled my hands into other dishes as well. This dish was the last one I had at SCC and it contains moro (Cuban mix of rice and black beans), yucca, maduros and pernil. Oof. Delicious. The pernil was tender fatty, and had a great texture to it. The sweet plantains (maduros) were fantastic. They had crunchy ends to them, and I'm all about that. The rice and beans were delicious, and the yucca, which I've never really been a fan of, was the best I've had in a very long time. This is a great combo plate that'll easily make a delicious option for lunch or dinner.

I don't know how it was possible that I never stopped in at a Sophie's for all their ubiquity, in the twenty or so years I've spent in NYC. I guess today was my lucky day to try its Cuban offerings, when a friend and I found the lunch lines at X'ian too daunting. I ordered the fried fish on top of the Morros y Christianos (black beans with rice) and a steamed veggie side. The fish was possibly catfish that was breaded thickly and tough to cut. The rice and beans were a dessicated flavorless mess. The veggies were actually perfect. But for $16, I was not at all impressed with my lunch plate. And my belly did not want to finish it, even with the tasty green sauce doused on top. IF there is a redeeming feature about this place, it's the green sauce. (It always is!) There surely was a reason why my gut never steered me here - because it's too expensive for its mediocre offerings. I'm not sure why you would want to go to Sophie's when Margon (the real deal, if La Habana is not in your future) is around the corner.

Got this thru mealpal This is breaded chicken with rice, beets, green beans and peas I was afraid the breaded chicken will be too dry or have a rough crust. Even though it was lukewarm when I got it, the chicken wasn't too dry. The breading was thin which I'm ok with. It tastes better when you add the green sauce they give you. Not sure what it is, but some sort of light green colored puree. It has a bit of spiciness and cilantro flavor. Perhaps very faint jalapeño. It was a bit messy when I found a lidless cup of sauce in my bag. There was no lid yet no sauce was spilled, like there's remains of a sauce but not necessarily a whole cup was spilled. Anyway, still messy. The container and utensils were a bit oily. No good for eating at my desk It came with plantains. Ironically my friend thought the sweet potatoes from my lunch the day before were plantains. Well now I really have plantains. I don't like how plaintains are too mushy sometimes but this one was good. There's a slight caramelized crust to it too which I appreciate. The color made me almost think these were chicken too There's a lot of beets. It amuses me how it makes everything pink and red. Tbh I don't eat enough beets to really say how this one is, but it seems quite fresh to me. It has a clear corn flavor - my friend confirmed beets can taste like this. I'm glad I didn't get sick of so many beets. The peas and green beans in the rice was blehh. It's fine but could be higher quality. The rice is orange. I wonder what they added. It's a bit salted and flavored. It's aight not oily not too salty. It's not as bad as it looks but I this isn't the type of thing I'd typically eat. Sorry not a fan 3.5

Let me start by saying that it's dangerous to be too busy to eat until 4pm and then discover there's a friendly Cuban restaurant 50 feet from your hotel. Sophie's was an exercise in overeating for me...but I'm fat and happy as a result. The basics: You order at the counter for takeout, you go sit in the spacious back of the restaurant for table service. I asked my excellent server (Sol), "Which is better...the ox tail stew or roast pork?" She thought briefly and recommended the pork. I'm glad she did as it was moist, flavorful, was a generous portion, and came with three sides. I got the black beans, white rice, and steamed veggies to go with the pork. Not knowing how large the portions were (see my pic!), I added an empanada for good measure. Of course, Cuban coffee to wash it down. When it arrived, I had to smile both at the volume and basic attractiveness of the food. As mentioned, the pork was delicious, the rice had to have a stick of butter in it (yum!), veggies were perfectly cooked and not steam table soggy, and black beans were fresh and well seasoned. Topped all of it with some magic green sauce that has a little kick to it and added the same to my beef empanada. I'd definitely go back again to Sophie's, eat there, and then have someone carry me back to my room with a fat, happy smile on my face.

Quite possibly the WORST oxtail I have ever had. Not sure why there was a chicken bone in it. Tasted like pure grease no real flavor. Just bad. Please don't put out food like this. Not okay. Inedible.

I love sophie's cuban! I usually order from the 1st ave location this same order and i love it! The food was perfectly spiced and delicious but the rice and beans and plantains was a tad over cooked for my liking. Still a great lunch/dinner option and they have a 25% discount for new customers who order on seamless which is great !

They really don't care. Ordered thru Seamless and waited over an hour when I was quoted 30-40 minutes. Delivery person went to the wrong address and left it wherever. When speaking to the restaurant, no apology just an excuse that they only have one delivery person (so why quote 30-40 or take orders at all?), and I can cancel my order. You all can F'off as far as they're concerned. I hope the owners read these reviews and take responsibility, but bad attitude usually comes from the top.

This is basically a mandatory lunch stop whenever I come to the city. The pernil with a twist is *chef's kiss* and the guava and cheese empanadas are to die for.

Multiple locations. Authentic Cuban food with generous portions and a healthy prepped assortment of veggies, beans, meats. Roughly $12 a meal. 5/5 stars as a lunch spot.

The Cuban craving hit me early in the day, so I decided to finally check out Sohpie's. It's your traditional 'hot plates' plus Cuban sandwich outfit - good homestyle cooking. Similar style/M.O. as Margon...but a tad but more spacious. I opted for the turkey Cuban - Fresh roasted turkey breast, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, mayo & mustard. I asked for no mayo and extra mustard and pickles, and to be grilled a tad bit longer, and the staffs was incredibly accommodating and polite. Good Cuban too! For a dollar extra, you can get plantains on your sammy too. And be sure to load up on the spicy green sauce...light and delicious. For those not into the sandwich, that have the traditional hot dishes like ox-tail stew, ropa vieja, goat, rice and beans etc. etc. Will be back.

Good and authentic Cuban food in Midtown, and the 3 sides plus entree portions are huge. The roast pork was delicious, and my favorite side was the sweet plantains. Price was expensive for lunch, perhaps they're more suitable for dinner portions or shareable. I'd definitely come back here though.

Portions, are, huge. Sophie's is the place for hungry hungry people. Ox tail stew is my favorite. Sophie's serves different main items (chicken and beef) on different days. You cannot go wrong with rice, salad, and ox tail stew. The dining area can get rather noisy however. The service is quick and the staff very friendly. Sophie's is the place for an empty stomach in a loud surrounding. Perfect for hungry coworkers who would like to eat together without talking. To-go is also a great option. The line moves very quick and it appears the to-go portions are sometimes larger than the portions given when dining in.

Cuisine: 7 Service: 7 Decor: 5 Value: 9 Overall: 7 Slow cooked pernil, green sauce, maduros, oxtail stew, rice and beans ... ... What's not to love about this small Cuban chain around Manhattan. Don't come here for the ambiance and you'll leave stuffed with a smile on your face.

I ordered the Ox Tail Stew with garlic Yuca and Plaintains. It was very carb loaded meal especially with the side of rice. I thought the Ox Tail stew was so good, a ton of flavors. The meat was so tender and slide off the bones. I wished I did not ordered the Yuca, mainly because its really dense and heavy. I also have only tried fried Yuca versus the boiled garlic Yuca, which did not have much flavor to me. The plaintain was sooooooo good. Tender and sweet. Perfection. The customer service was alright, I had my food to go. But its a good cuban restaurant if you are in the city, wanting ethnic food.

Yummy!! Was looking for a restaurant that I had good salad options and found Sophie's right next to the hotel that I was staying at. Had their veggie salad combo which is four sides for under $12 and I got the black beans and rice, beet salad, and the white beans and avocado mix and it was terrific. Very large ( and delicious) portion and ask for their hot sauce (which was not that hot) for added flavor. Recommended!

I can't remember how many Sophie's locations that I have been to so far. This one was my first visit. I would say the setup was very similar to the other locations. You have the take out area near the door and seats in the back. When I walked into the restaurant, I saw a waitress came toward me with a smile on her face. I told her a table for 4 please. She totally ignored me. WTF. I said everything load and clear! Anyways, another waitress came shortly after and seated us. I got my usual pick, the baked chicken with vegetables and avocado. It was very good and tender as other locations. However, the green sauce was too sweet and creamy. Maybe they wanted to cut down the cost and put more mayo???? :( I wasn't very pleased with the sauce. I would go back again for just the take out. Hope they will bring back the right green sauce back!

Now open on Saturdays! This is one of those "soup nazi" places in New York where you need to know what you want to order *before* you even step inside. I tried the roast pork with rice and beans as well as the shrimp in garlic sauce. They were not bad. The portion size was rather generous, which is always a plus. Their secret green sauce made everything taste much better! They run daily specials and weekday specials. Most people come here for take-out. They do have table service in the back.

Delivery was 30 minutes late and it took 4-5 tries to get someone on the phone to check where my order was. However, the food more than made up for it and was still warm when it arrived. In terms of the food - chicken empanadas with green sauce was so so good! I also tried the oxtail stew for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I loved the flavor but I'm not sure how I feel about the texture - the meat was very very tender but there was just a lot of fat which made it quite heavy on the stomach. Plus the bones made it slightly difficult to eat. Probably will stick with pork next time. But my favorite part was the tres Leches! The cake was soaked perfectly and was just the right amount of sweet. Yum!

Sophie's Cuban Cuisine is a great place for quick Cuban food. You have the option to dine in or take out. Service is always fast and staff is nice, which is always important taking into consideration the amount of time we have for lunch. I love the ox tail and beef stew. They are always made fresh and tender. They have delicious empanadas that are perfect for snacking! It's also very easy to eat healthy here if you're still keeping track of your New Years resolutions!

Couple of years later annnnnd I still love this place! Great food selection, great service and food is always fresh! Had the salmon with white rice, steamed veggies & yuca with garlic. You get to choose 3 sides....and the list is long...typical slides like yellow rice, sweet plantains, avocado & salad to name a few. 13 bucks for the combo! Salmon, white rice & yuca with garlic .....all delish! Cooked to perfection....flavor on point! Steamed veggies consisted of broccoli, carrots, cauliflower & string beans....great combo...all my faves! Broccoli & cauliflower were SUPA CRISPY....like almost not cooked! That really annoys me....please steam correctly!! Also had a chicken empanada....that made me happy again!...lol Portion size was Okay! Lots of sides...small piece of salmon. SYOY
