The Sopocany Monastery was built in 13th century by the king Stephan Uros I Nemanjic. It is located not far from the modern city of Novi Pazar and is a UNESCO world heritage site. The main structure is the church of the Holy Trinity built in Romanesque style. The frescoes inside are from 13-14th centuries and are considered one of the most beautiful of this period. The Dormition of the Virgin on the western wall of the nave is the most famous. There are a few visitors here, and the place is never crouded. It is a must for those who like medieval art and architecure, as well as interested in history of Serbia.

Absolutely beautiful, with great frescoes, including the one that was named the most beautiful fresco in the world from Medieval times in 1961 in Paris. Very pleasant surroundings, good choice of souvenirs.

Such a gorgeous monastery! It is on UNESCO list. It is a must see monastery and has to be preserved from anti Serbian extremists and western tourists who like to carve their names into centuries old frescoes, as they did in Studenica monastery.
