The Best Korean Restaurants in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"This Côte-des-Neiges restaurant defied the odds by opening in 2020 and surviving since, all thanks to their selection of fried chicken, sizzling plates of bulgogi, stews, noodle dishes, and lunch specials that go for a song." - Holly Tousignant

They have a good variety of food on the menu, the staff is friendly and service was fast. We ordered a bulgogi bbq skillet, some fried chicken and side dishes. Everything was super good… only tiny thing the fried chicken was a little soaked in oil (maybe they dropped the chicken in the oil too early before it got hot… if you know you know) but was still good to eat. The atmosphere is also very nice and restaurant very clean. Will be coming back!

Google
best Korean food in montreal, I genuinely cannot find better soondubu (tofu stew) in the area. can be a little pricey, but it’s definitely worth it. the food is fresh and the flavours are amazing. the service is very casual, if you’re looking for fancy dine in this isn’t the place for you. their kimchi is amazing too!

The food is so good and the portions are generous. I like to go there with my friends it’s because of the good ambiance and the prices. The food is so good and rich and flavor. The chicken is very crispy on the outside with tender meat inside . The tteokbokki is one of my favorite dishes because of the savory sauce that compliment the chewiness of the tteok. I recommend it a 100%. The staff is away ready to help and give very good recommendations !!! It was one of the first times eating Korean food and the images on the menu were helpful to choose my meal.

Prices are much higher than other Korean restaurants in Montreal. Adding protein to your dish is always extra (e.g., seafood to pajeon/pancake and meat to soft tofu stew/soondubu). Taste good but still expensive for what you get. Service was efficient and staff was kind. Lots of seating

The flight time from Montreal to Seoul Korea is about 17 hours and 25 minutes, so instead of flying to Korea my wife and I decided to take a leisurely 15 minute walk to the Sopoong Korean Restaurant located on Queen Mary Road. Just for your information Sopoong means PICNIC in Korean and we definitely had a great indoor picnic at our table. We ordered 2 Korean BBQ specialties from the menu which included a tasty Miso Soup, a healthy garden salad, sticky rice, and we shared a Chicken Teriyaki Plate as well as a Bulgogi (marinated beef) Plate, both piled high with vegetables and served on a hot metal platter. Our dinner was extremely delicious and the portions were very generous so that we had enough food to take home with us for another meal. Best of all we didn’t have to board a jet for another 17 hours and 25 minute flight back to Montreal, and after a pleasant 15 minute walk we were home again.

This Korean restaurant is fancier than others I've been to. It's decorated nicely with fancy designs on the ceiling and has cozy lighting. It's really clean, and the staff are super friendly and attentive. We tried the Gamjatang (Pork Bone Soup) since it was cold and rainy then we asked the waiter for a recommendation and he suggested the Crispy Fried Chicken with Onion Mayo. We also tried the Tteokbokki on skewers. The food was delicious. The chicken was crunchy, and the Onion Mayo on top was perfect. The Tteokbokki skewers were chewy and had a nice mix of spice and sweetness. The Gamjatang was good, but I've had better in Koreatown in Toronto. As with the side dishes, they only have two, I wish they added more. Banchan is my personal highlight whenever I go to a Korean Restaurant for a meal. Fair price point is a yes for me. For those seeking to dine al fresco, they added outdoor seating which is a lovely option if dining for supper. Pro tip: Avoid the parking hustle. It was really tough finding a parking spot.

Google
Best fried chicken in Montreal, and I’m saying this as someone who was tried everything. Genuinely amazing food, okay portions on the chicken, great portions everywhere else. Good experience!

Yelp
Excellent fried chicken. Seriously, give it a try. We also got some Jajangmyeon which we loved. The staff were so kind and friendly and the food came piping hot And they packed the bag properly to make sure it was still crispy by the time we got home.

Yelp
Fairly new (est. 2020) Korean restaurant. Location wise, it's great as it's accessible by metro and there's actually quite a bit of paid street parking. Inside, the restaurant looks very bright and spacious, lots of tables around with longer tables for big groups. The waiters come by with your food on a dolly which is great because some Korean dishes come piping hot in stone bowls! Food wise: their fried chicken (no sauce) is not to be missed. It's juicy, crispy outside, perfectly cooked inside. The flavour of it is also AMAZING. Highly recommend their fried chicken! Service wise: since other folks' reviews, I think they improved quite a bit and are pretty attentive when it comes to water. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Korean Fried chicken is the best in the world, this is absolute fact, not just my opinion. It is the only KFC worth eating, in my opinion. And sopoong does a very good rendition of it! I tried the whole chicken, with the spicy sauce and also the soy garlic one (had them packaged separately). wow...the chicken is moist and well-fried and so so crisp! If I didnt fear for my health I could eat this every day for sure. The sauces were delicious and the crust of the chicken was substantial enough that dipping it didn't make it soggy at all. the spicy sauce was still mild enough to be enjoyable. I also tried the calamari which was very good as well. Nicely fried and the squid was nice and tender. I also got the seafood pajeon - this was a very good choice! It was a bit greasy but it was stuffed full of delicious seafood. Really tasty stuff. There's a bit of confusion when ordering on the phone (probably due to language barriers) but the service is friendly enough! Definitely check this place out for good authentic chicken!

Yelp
Last week, I ordered a whole spicy fried chicken from Sopoong. It was the best Korean fried chicken (KFC) I've tried compared to Mon Ami on Saint Catherine, Dawa on Sherbrooke, and The Basak on Guy. The skin and meat just fell off the bone, and the chicken was still crispy and hot after I lugged it home. I liked that they kept the box open so that the heat wouldn't collect and make the chicken soggy. It wasn't spicy enough for my tastes (I rarely find anything marked "spicy" spicy enough), but the seasoning was superb. And this entire chicken came with a salad. I was able to split up all the pieces into three meals. Thank you Sopoong for the best KFC I've had so far!

Yelp
I ordered the Dak-Galbi, and was a little disappointed. I used to live in Asia, having tried authentic Dak-Galbi in South Korea and Chinese style Dak-Galbi in China, and the Dak-Galbi here was nothing like I've had before. It was not bad, but overall I would not try this restaurant solely for their Dak-Galbi. Moreover, the service was nonexistent, and the server did the absolute bare minimum, from not informing us how to order to not informing us how to pay. The service was horrendous, and a little rude when handing the bills, ripping it and dropping it instead of handing it to the customer. Lastly, they did not serve alcohol. For some this may not matter, but Korean BBQ and Korean alcohol make a perfect combo. For those reasons, I'm happy I tried it, but won't return to the restaurant in the future.

Yelp
Lovely new little resto in NDG that just opened yesterday! My husband and I were eyeing this place for a while since new restos are such a novelty nowadays. We called in for pickup and service was friendly and fast. It looks to be a family owned business and I remember passing by while they were putting on the signage and being super cute giggling excitedly at seeing the windows done. The place itself is truly beautiful with lots of ambiance lighting and natural look at makes it very inviting. Sadly, loads of chairs and tables in the main areas that won't see some use for a while. We ended up ordering the dak galbi lunch special and the soondubu chicken dumpling lunch special. Except, I got a seafood soondobu instead.. oops, gonna chalk that up to new resto opening nerves. I am such a sucker for bento style, cafeteria trays, and plane food because of all the little sides and things you get to try. So it was with glee that I opened up that dak galbi and snuck bites out of it while my husband was digging in. And banchan (side dishes)!! Gosh, I love a good selection of banchan so that's a definite plus. Verdict? It's good. It's healthier tasting than a lot of Asian places and the seaweed salad was excellent. But... slightly too sweet for me, though I'd still happily eat it anyways. Good amount of spice, not too oily, and lots of veg. Rice cooked perfectly, and I love that my rice had a bit of black and white sesame seeds. Nice little detailed touches. Soondubu itself was a bit watery and bland for me. Kimchi could use more time to ferment in my opinion but lovers of fresh crisp kimchi will probably appreciate it. Prices are decent and fairly good value for your money. Overall a nice lunch and we're thankful for the big portions. We wish you the best Sopoong!

Yelp
Horrible service. I waited twenty minutes which wasn't bad to get a table. Sat down. The qr code wasn't working. I had too ask the waiter three times to take my order. That was 25minutes later. Than already an hour and half in the guy next too me told the waiter I was here first that I didn receive any water in Korean. After they received water before me. As I was waiting people who ordered take out and sat after where being served food before me. That's when I got up two hours later went to the cash and canceled my order. Got there at 615 around walked out at 750pm. No food, no service, poorly run. The fact that the guy next to me had to ask them to bring me a glass of water is absurd. I won't be going back, and I was excited to try this place based on the reviews. But it is run badly and can't Comment on the food since didn't receive anything close to two hours. The guy at the cash didn't even apologize or explain why it was taking so long. Especially that I was a single customer.

Yelp
All in all the food was really good. Generous portions, reasonably priced and really very good. My only complaint is that the staff is not overly friendly nor are they attentive. Never once did anyone ask me if I needed anything or a refill of water. I they basically served me and forgot about me. Aside from that my meal really was enjoyable.
