It’s acceptable for airport food. I needed some soup desperately and I was hesitant to try this restaurant as all the reviews about soup (ramen or udon) were consistently bad. I decided to risk myself and ordered spicy ramen with beef. It surprised me in a pleasant way! The service was not necessarily fast or good but I would not mind going there again when I transfer in Detroit.

Google
I've been wanting to try this place for a while now. I had a long flight ahead of me, so I figured I'd try something I know would be easy on my stomach. The miso soup tasted very good, but the chicken teriyaki was quite bland, bordering on tasteless. The two vegetables that came with it, broccoli and carrots, were like warm at best, and the rice was dry. Perhaps not the greatest first impression. Staff were okay, not really friendly, yet not rude. The best description for them might be not very engaged. The place is a mixed bag. I might try a sushi roll next time and see if that fares any better.

Google
I saw the bad reviews but I was really craving noodles on my long layover here. Firstly the kimchi and steam gyoza are pretty standard and food. Also got the spicy beef udon which unfortunately was a different story. The udon was fine enough (though I have pretty low expectations for noodles) but the broth wasn't great. Almost flavourless, same with the beef in it. I probably won't be back

I've walked by this restaurant numerous times passing through the Detroit airport and finally decided to give it a try. The service was lacking, and it took a good 30 minutes to get my rainbow roll from the sushi chef. Once I did get my food, it was incredibly mediocre. Frankly, I've had better sushi from Kroger for 2/3 the price.

Google
I’ve been here many times and there is always timely service. If you have even 30minutes until boarding, this is the place to go. Lisa has been there many of the times I’m there and she is so kind and personable! I’d highly recommend spending your time at the airport here. As for pricing, it’s an airport so it’s expected to be a tad pricier. The food is delicious and they have a full bar, so to me it is worth the little treat.

Google
Server/bartender got my order wrong and had us wait 40 min for food. Luckily my flight was not for another hour or so. The sushi was OK. The sever was nice and genuinely apologized so that softened the blow. The poke bowl was OK as well.

Pro

Google
Food was just not good at all. We have eaten Japanese cuisine a lot of places this has to be the worst Japanese restaurant. The Spicy Udon was extremely bland and was the first time the noodles finished before the broth.

Google
Had a long layover in Detroit and decided to give this Japanese place a try. So glad I did. Even though it was packed with people, the waitress was excellent and explained that things might take a little bit longer. I can recommend what I ordered: the steamed gyozas and the tuna poke bowl. I think the wine is overpriced but it seems that’s the way that most restaurants make a lot of money. It was a nice glass of wine even though it was $23. In summary, some of the best Japanese food I have had, and even though, it’s in an airport, service was excellent.

Yelp
Solid 3 stars, average. I got the miso ramen. The broth was decent but once I got to the bottom I found miso paste which meant it wasn't mixed carefully. Meat was overcooked, dry. But overall it was fine. Not bad but not particularly good, either. Their hot green tea tasted pretty decent. Given the dusty sediment it's probably a bag, but they at least brewed it correctly, which is a plus. It's $4 for hot tea, by the way, which is not explicitly on the menu. Given their extremely limited sashimi menu, I didn't trust it. Might be safer to avoid since the quality is questionable. My service was fine. Not lightning fast but not too slow either. Overall, it was fine but I'd probably try a different place in this terminal before coming back to this.

Yelp
Arrived at DTW as a lay over to my Los Angeles flight and thought this place would be a good go to dinner on my way to LA. First impression of this restaurant was not pleasant. The host/server was very rude and didn't seem to want to take my order. She rudely walked off after I told her I want to order a breakfast bowl. I finally got her attention again after being ignored but still she looks very unhappy. My food finally came out after 15-20 minutes and when I got the chance to sit down to eat it, it was very bland with no flavor. For a $30 roll I would have expected a lot more than bland flavor sushi. Not only that it left a very bitter taste and left me with a very upset stomach. I'm pretty disappointed. I would not recommend this place. They need to have welcoming service and better tasting sushi especially if I'm paying $30 for just 1 roll.

Yelp
I felt compelled to write this review because I was honestly shocked by the lack of hospitality from the servers and hostesses here. I made two stops at this location--once on my way to Kentucky and again on my way back to Seattle--and both times, the service left much to be desired. The hostesses and servers didn't seem very welcoming, almost brushing us off. For example, I asked if I could substitute salmon for tuna in the poke bowl (it didn't seem like a big ask), and the response was simply, "Nope, can't do it." While the food itself was good, I think they could really benefit from hiring friendlier staff who make customers feel more valued and welcome. When we walked up they weren't welcoming as well . Like smile a little bit . I know her name but thought I'll be nice and not blast her name on yelp.

Yelp
Pro tip, there is a PFChanges past it. I ate here...salty ramen and not good roll. I ate it as I was starving then got sad when I left and I saw the PFChangs :( chain yes but much better than the salt lick I received. I never complain about ramen either. ...generally love it every time. ****I could also see how this place could be hit or miss. The person cooking today was not good. Service was great.

Jaewoo S.

Yelp
Wednesday 7am. We were told by one staff that they will open at 7:30am. Another staff let us in when the other staff was gone. Had Tempura Udon. Soup broth had no flavor, so the entire udon had no taste. Costs $18. I will not be back.

Calina N.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to eating some sushi before my flight. I wanted to order a speciality roll but they told me that the sushi chef was new and couldn't make pretty much anything except the traditional rolls (Cali, Philly, etc). They couldn't even make the nigiri...I was pretty disappointed and ended up just getting a Philly roll. The service was so-so, one of the waiters was pretty responsive but the other one just looked over it. The prices are a bit outrageous. It was $7 for a miso soup, and specialty rolls are close to $30. Given the quality of the rolls I don't think this place is worth it for the sushi at least. They seem to have a ton of udon and ramen so maybe that might be your best bet instead. Overall, I don't think I would choose this place again if I were in the DTW airport.

Masaru O.

Yelp
I've been here many times over the years but this is my first visit in a while. I think they remodeled the space and the menu has changed quite a bit, it is much more limited than I remember from say 5 years ago. Agedashi tofu was decent, though the dashi taste could be better. It has a strange stretchy texture a bit like chewing gum. Spicy ramen oddly has some sweetness to it, and the broth doesn't taste quite right for ramen. I think it's lacking depth. Spicy lovely roll has a good amount of spice and is fairly large. Prices are quite high compared to what I remember before covid, this meal came to $65 before tip! I know it's the airport, but almost $25 for ramen? Overall it doesn't feel worth the price anymore.

Ken I.

Yelp
Way overpriced. Stinky tap water. Ordered poke bowl that was dried old cold rice, too much spicy sauce on it. Never want to order.

Robert S.

Yelp
Went to try their Miso soup. Last time I went it was very strong and salty. This time, it was a bit less sharp, but still very salty. I usually eat low salt, so I had to ask for some hot water and add it to my soup. I should have gotten a sushi roll....that usually is less seasoned....

Kynton C.

Yelp
Good option in the Detroit airport. My daughter really enjoys the fish cakes, and we asked for extra. With some hesitation, the waitress agreed. And bright out one extra slice. A bit stingy of the restaurant given the "airport pricing" built into the menu. If you want something healthier than typical airport fast food, this is a good option. But I may not have visited were it not for the fact that the airline was going to reimburse dining costs.

Megan S.

Yelp
My diet is a little more paleo than standard American, and that's why I came here - sushi in the airport! Sweet! (no, I'm no fool, I know it's not *good* fish) It took almost 10 minutes for my server to check in which I should have noted as a major issue and left at that point, but I didn't. I had an hour until boarding. When she finally did show up, she did not bring me water. She told me the sushi counter was backed up by 45 minutes and asked if she could get me a drink. THIS IS AN AIRPORT RESTAURANT; it is never ok to have a 45 minute delay in food delivery. The rest of the menu is carb heavy and inevitably incredibly salty, really boring "asian" menu, nothing remotely interesting to speak of that I wanted to order. I walked out and went to order Coney Dogs by my gate. Almost wasn't able to get food at all because of how slow my server was. I will not try again with this place unless the recent reviews get a lot better.

Chloe F.

Yelp
I ordered a veggie roll before a flight and for airport food it took quite a while. The service was fine, nothing amazing by any means, but the food was fresh and delicious. I would go again, but certainly not if I was in a rush.

Nathan A.

Yelp
ま、ここのラーメンをラーメンと呼ぶのはどうかと思う。 どうしても和食が食べたいなら来ても良いが、おすすめはしない Well, I don't think it's right to call the ramen here ramen. If you really want to eat Japanese food, you can come here, but I don't recommend it.

Daniel A.

Yelp
First time here! Decent overall! Food/Drink: Very tasty, very well cooked, very well plated. Full sushi/sashimi menu. Appetizers, drinks, and deserts. Sushi: nice fat rolls, did not skimp. Fresh ingredients, plenty of flavor. Dinning Area: Pretty small, open, quiet. Prices: Relatively cheap. Beef spicy ramen soup, and bottle of Pepsi $27! Parking: Airport Bathrooms: Airport. Atmosphere: During the weekday lunch rush, pretty light. Staff/Attendants: She was great! 7/10

Amy M.

Yelp
This is the best sushi I've had at an airport. The spicy tuna roll is amazing! The restaurant offers various seating options with the ability to watch the sushi chefs as they work. I will say that the service is rather slow, so make sure you allot enough time to enjoy!

Yelp
BAD RAMEN & AN INCREDIBLY RUDE ASSISTANT September 7, 2024 5pm. Despite the price ($21) the chashu ramen was worse than 3-buck instant noodles like Nissin Raoh or Maruchan Gold Ramen. Too weak broth. Bad toppings: chashu pork was lean and not marinated enough, and no white pepper. The chefs should know what ramen should be. And that's not the worst part. I wrote some feedback on the backside of the receipt and asked one of the assistants, T******, to pass the receipt to the chefs. She didn't apologize or even see the feedback but BLAMED me as if she was intentionally adding fuel to the fire. I explained that I wouldn't request a refund because I didn't want to waste food or ask for another bowl of ramen and miss my flight. But she didn't stop educating me in an aggressive and disrespectful tone. Advice to the manager: you need to train or replace T****** who seems utterly clueless about guest services. And please share the receipt with my handwritten feedback with your chefs to improve the ramen although she didn't appreciate it at all.

Sam K.

Yelp
Stopped by on a recent flight from DTW and ordered the spicy beef udon noodles. While the portion size was pretty filling, it was very pricey in my opinion ($22+) and had a slightly sweet undertone to it that reminded me more of bbq sauce than authentic udon soup. I would have also liked some more beef. It wasn't the best, but not the worst either! Service was fairly quick and I was able to get a seat and go in and out without much issue. Price: 2/5 Taste: 3.5/5 Value: 3/5

Devin D.

Yelp
If you are ever waiting on a flight or have a layover like myself, this place is a great stop. The beef broth from my Chashu was so rich and tasty. The noodles were perfectly al dente. The sides were all super tasty. The only reason this is a 4 star instead of 5 is the Chashu was a little tough (maybe old? Not sure, the piece in the bottom left looks to have gone bad) The person who waited on me was very informative and was having a laugh with the patrons at the bar. The place is pretty warm, luckily the indoor tram running by would gust me with wind occasionally. As for the place itself, really nice looking. Would love to stop in late at night for a meal. Made for a perfect meal on a foggy day.

Magdalen K.

Yelp
When I walked up to the restaurant, it took a while for me to be helped. The waitress came up and said something to me very quickly and I didn't hear her. She walked away before I could ask her to repeat herself, and I had to flag her down to get an answer. Once I was seated, it took forever for my waitress to take my order, and it also took a long time to receive my water. The food did come out quickly. I had the spicy udon soup. I personally did not feel it was worth the price, and it was pretty bland and there was not much spice to it. Overall I did not think this was worth it and if I am ever in the Detroit airport again, I will be avoiding this restaurant.

Mike C.

Yelp
Took forever to be greeted...waitstaff walked by me without eye contact multiple times, finally I needed to ask for a seat. Spicy tuna roll took forever and was meh - Meijer's is significantly better.

Chris N.

Yelp
It's been a couple of years since I have been here. I forgot why I did not think highly of this place. I was talked out of ordering something from sushi bar. There is always drama here. My glass of wine was half the size of others too. Now I remember. Never again

Mike C.

Yelp
Got the Katsudon for lunch and it was really good and good portion! Solid for airport food for sure!

Mallory W.

Yelp
Visited this spot inside the Detroit airport. I can't remember the name of the roll but it was very good. I had a few rounds at the bar while waiting for my connecting flight. Service was really good. I wish I got baby girls name at the bar but she provided great customer service. Two drinks and the roll ran me about $60 but it's expected eating inside the airport. Food was good. Service was good I would def come back.

Kristy N.

Yelp
Food was ok. I wasn't super impressed. Short Staffed. And as I watched the sushi chef drop items on the floor and throw them back in the fridge then as he is making food he is eating food as he goes. So his gloves touching his mouth and then continuing preparing the sushi. And country music playing in a sushi bar and sports playing was confusing.

Maya C.

Yelp
Surprisingly enough, this place has some seriously good ramen. The broths are decently deep, flavorful and the noodles are a good consistency, appropriate toppings as well. I had my doubts because this is an airport restaurant, but I try to stop here whenever I can. The sushi and apps are also good. The staff is friendly and the wait is never long. All positives when having to get on a flight. Because Sora is in an airport, I guess they have unique challenges. The last time I was there, they could not do any cooked foods at all. So, it was only cold foods and refrigerated sushi ingredients. Sadly, it was disappointing, but who knows why this was the case. It was still a nice little stop. I had a quick roll and a cucumber salad. I will try again next time. I do like the "seat yourself" casual atmosphere too.

Lucy Y.

Yelp
I was in DTW & looking for something light & healthy. I'm glad I took a chance on sushi! I was greeted super warmly as soon as I walked in, & then my server Amir was super warm & attentive. I got exactly what I wanted - a no-sauce (so low salt) Great Lakes roll with light rice, and 2 pieces each of yellowtail & salmon sashimi. Amir filled my giant water glass the second I finished it, which dehydrated me really appreciated. My only criticism is that I couldn't detect any vinegar in the sushi rice. But the warm & attentive service, very fresh fish, & healthy roll made me happy. After a lot of flying in the past few days, the friendliness here was like a breath of fresh air. I'd definitely come back here the next time I come thru!

Crystal H.

Yelp
Not good. We mistakenly ordered Bulgogi and Spicy Chicken from the entree menu, big mistake! Terrible!!! I haven't had food this bad in a while!! Maybe the sushi is better but steer clear of the entrees!!

Vincent G.

Yelp
After almost 2 days of delays, cancellations, rerouting, lost baggage, multiple flights and layovers, trying to get from Vancouver to Hartford, CT, this was a very welcomed oasis in the desert. I wish I could remember her name, but our waitress was friendly, warm, delightfully sassy, and funny. And the food was...surprising. Maybe I don't travel that often, but I've always known airport food to be subpar and expensive. This wasn't terribly unreasonable for an airport, and quite tasty to boot. For any restaurant, period. I'm not usually a huge fan of ramen, but tried my girlfriend's and really enjoyed it. I ordered some sushi including the crispy Vegas roll which was absolutely delicious. I don't think I'll find myself at the Detroit airport again anytime soon, but if I do, I'll certainly go out of my way to try and make it back there. (Was also far bigger than I initially realized.)

Ronald J.

Yelp
Aside from the Sushi being cut so slim and all the colors looking like farm raised fish the prices were absolutely insane. The price per piece of Sushi is 7-8 Dollars for farm raised thin cuts. No where on the menu does it say you only get 1 piece. Never actually been at a sushi place that did that. Total RIP OFF!!!

Judy B.

Yelp
Although the service was ok, the cucumber salad was fresh but the rice vinegar was so watered down it tastes like nothing was on the cucumber! The agadashi tofu had a syrupy such, barely enough to dip the tofu in. Don't waste your time if you really f want sushi/Japanese food.

Brian S.

Yelp
It's been a few years since I ate at Sora, and I was hoping for an improvement over last time. Unfortunately, that was not the case. There's a lot of great sushi and Japanese food at airports around the nation (and world), but Sora is not one of them. I would not recommend eating here, there are better options at DTW. Food quality: pretty meh. The "steamed veggies" were no more flavorful than a bag of frozen veggies; there was no seasoning. The meat itself was fairly tasty, but the portion was extremely disappointing; there was maybe four bites worth of actual meat. The only thing that came in a normal portion was the rice. Service: not good. They quoted me a 15 minute wait, then took almost 30. Luckily, I still had time to make my flight, but an airport establishment can't take 30 minutes to make a normal menu item, and also has to be accurate with times. Prices: Again, awful for what you get. My meal wasn't even worth $10, let alone $20. I was still hungry afterwards; it did not even come close to filling me up. Sadly, Sora continues to be disappointing, and I cannot recommend it.

Michael M.

Yelp
New smaller menu is horrible. Very boring and bland. Got rid of all selection. Rolls are now more expensive than Nobu (seriously). Used to be a weekly meal at the airport. I won't be back.

Gayle G.

Yelp
Waitress was great at first until I showed her the very Long piece of hair in my sushi roll. Waitress swiftly took plate away without another word.

Chelsey Y.

Yelp
After my flight being delayed for 7 hours, I was looking for a hearty bowl of soup and this was a quick fix to my Asian food cravings. I can't say anything about their sushi - but the udon was a lot better than I expected. The noodles were the right consistency, and the broth was really flavorful and had a good spice level. They also offered togorashi if you wanted it to be spicier.

Morgan Z.

Yelp
Last month, I had a long layover at DTW and decided to stop in at Sora for lunch/dinner before my flight home. After reviewing all of my options in the airport, I was excited to see Sora since I was craving sushi. When we sat down, the server was really nice and quickly greeted us and sat us down and got us waters to drink. After reviewing the menu, we decided on a few sushi rolls that we planned to order. When our server came over to take our order, she informed us they are no longer doing sushi and we would have to order something else. We decided to get the edamame and gyoza ramen. The edamame was good and well seasoned. They gyoza and ramen were alright but really not that great, especially considering the price. I was honestly really disappointed in my meal. I know it's airport food but it was a pretty simple dish. Also, the egg was so hard boiled and not jammy like most eggs in ramen. That was definitely not my preference. Also, while we were waiting for our food and even after we got our food, we saw several other people around us still being served sushi. It seemed maybe their sushi chef went on a 20-30 minute break then came back. We had such a long layover that we would have absolutely waited had they been honest with us. My personal experience here was disappointing and therefore I won't be returning in the future.

D A.

Yelp
Come thru DTW often and sometimes craving sushi and more so I remember last time the one waitress with red hair and ponytail was rude and her service overshadowed the quality of the food....well SOB, today I stop by and guess who I get again. I thought okay maybe she just had a bad day last time o was there...food was good. Well what the heck...anyhow I wasn't surprised as much as I was surprised when she came over and "what can I get ya?" nice greeting and immediately thought of how my last visit was. I watched her interact or lack there of with other patrons...what a shame for travelers to have to endure traveling and I'm sure as they leave and continue their travels, she'll be a highlight. Unfortunately! Food came out and I asked her for a fork...she looked as if I was putting her out and reached over the bar where straws, and forks were...she grabbed the fork by the prongs and said here ya go../seriously/ I'm supposed to eat off the fork after her fingers were all over this place...she then said "don't you want a fork or not"? I said not that one after she fingered the end...she replaced it and got another one, same way...I took it from here and just laid on the table and use the sticks. I watched her a bit later take that first fork and give it to another table!. Anyhow, outside of her (again) the food was good. Just not sure it's worth stopping by here when I see her and wonder what type of training of the staff is conducted for her to handle the silver wear in such matter. Oh, I guess she also cares to know how the food was or if I needed a refill...never came by once to ask....I'm needy to give big tips but in her case...No tip is a tip, she can hopefully do better!

Duane B.

Yelp
The Poke Bowl was flavorful and delicious. The miso was one of the best I had in recent times. This place is an excellent stop for anyone who has a layover in Detroit, even if it's a short layover, as the service is fast and friendly. I'll certainly stop here again as I pass through.

Nicole E.

Yelp
I ate here once a while back for a work trip. M The sushi was average at best and way overpriced. I spent nearly $70 and remember feeling I got ripped off after eating here and was regretting going here and worse paying for the food here. I shake my head whenever I pass this place now.

Suzanne M.

Yelp
The service was the worst I have ever had. That waitress actually yelled at us and then berated us when we were there for 20 minutes with not even water. Absolutely ridiculous, she was way out of line. I can't even believe they have 3 starts. I imagine the one and only reason they are still open is it's in an airport and choices are very limited.

Opal K.

Yelp
The service was absolutely terrible and waitress was rude and loud but also somehow managed to ignore you at the same time? The place wasn't that busy either to warrant the behavior. Older Asian waitress showed preference to certain types customers and was just aggressive for no reason. Food was super overpriced for the quality.

Kylee D.

Yelp
Sushi is tiny, ramen tastes awful. Waitress was rude and also for it being at an airport where people are trying to catch flights, it was extremely slow. All the tables were dirty and it was a horrible experience. Overpriced for bad food and bad service. I do not recommend at all

Ayesha F.

Yelp
Food was way too overpriced for the taste. I was disappointed with the sushi. I don't think I will be returning. Service and ambiance were okay.

Beth J.

Yelp
Stopped here at DTW for a bite to eat before my flight. While it wasn't bad it wasn't that good. Miso soup and vegetarian roll. Service was good.

Brandy L.

Yelp
Located in Detroit airport this place was exactly what I needed as I wanted for my connecting flight. The sushi was excellent. The service was fast and friendly. The chicken teriyaki wasn't the best but it was good. Didn't really have a fresh taste. Almost like microwave food. Pricing was good. I had two sushi's and chicken teriyaki plate and soda equal $30

Rob F.

Yelp
Sora used to be one of the best sushi restaurants I had access to. In fact, when connecting through Detroit, I'd often leave a little extra time to dine there. Well, about a year ago, they were acquired by a new owner and the menu now is lackluster. Mediocre ramen like you can find in any strip mall. Gone are the authentic sushi and sashimi menu items, and the expert chefs. Same nice waitstaff, limited though, but no longer a must have. This likely was my last visit.

Billy W.

Yelp
I wasn't hungry, but I saw this place in the terminal. I thought about getting something at the time but then thought I would wait until I was a little hungrier. I asked what time they closed and they said "10 o'clock but we stop serving sushi between 9:15 and 9:30." When I went back at five minutes after nine Amir told me that they were done taking sushi orders. I told him what I was told earlier and he abruptly told me, "we are done!" So unfortunately, I did not get to try any of the food, but I was really jonesing for some salmon roll. Just poor customer service.

Ronda A.

Yelp
ok hear me out , this is not a roman you would be served at a Tokyo airport. but for what it is , it was delightfully tasty. and they have sake.

Nick G.

Yelp
The service was great here...my server, Trang, was extraordinary! I LOVE sushi and though i have been through the Detroit airport no less than 50 times in the last two years, i have never stopped here. Glad i did....I ordered a yellowtail roll and a spicy tuna, both were very good. All Japanese restaurants make spicy tuna rolls but everyone has a unique take to their sauce. Trang insisted i have the spicy tuna without using soy sauce. I followed the recommendation and i can see now how soy sauce can often cover up the natural flavors of the spicy tuna....

Frank W.

Yelp
This is one of those places to encourage relativism. If this were outside an airport, it would be acceptable. But inside an airport, this verges on superlative. As a teacher, I always tried -- and failed -- to persuade students they should strive to produce the best work by an objective standard, an ideal we might agree on even if universalism is impossible. I hated, on their behalf and mine to a lesser degree, the tendency, which has become so common as to be taken for granted, for them to ask what I'm looking for. The answer is a new motorcycle, to make the point the goal is not, should not be, cannot be, to cater to the whims of an individual. Yet I have given up, for it is impossible with our shared cynicism and weariness, and the examples of abuse of power to cajole anybody toward the possibilities of alternatives. In some contexts, however, I appreciate that "compared to what?" is an appropriate standard. There is no point while flying to judge dining choices against the general marketplace; it must be assessed within the context of its specific marketplace. The patrons are in a rush. The purveyor of any sustenance or goods are means to an ends: you need to limit your hunger en route or you have to quell the boredom of the layover. The rent is high. There is no reason for a chef to produce anything better than the minimum which will generate business sufficient for the targeted profit. Yet everyone hopes. Frequent flyers discuss the best food available at this airport or that airport. Sora should make that list.
