The Newest Restaurants In Philadelphia

"Fairmount’s Sorellina is the sister restaurant to Cicla in the Divine Lorraine (literally–the name means little sister in Italian). It serves Neapolitan-style pizza topped with things like San Marzano tomatoes, cured meats, pistachio pesto, and housemade sausage. There are also Italian small plates like Sicilian eggplant caponata with focaccia, along with a spritz-heavy cocktail list. We checked out Sorellina. Read our thoughts here." - candis mclean, alison kessler

Sorellina Neopolitan Pizza Review - Spring Garden - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Sorellina is the newest addition to the slew of dining concepts at the Divine Lorraine in Spring Garden, and Cicala’s sister restaurant (after all, sorellina means “little sister” in Italian). It’s a nice place to sit with a friend or a date—the space is bright and airy, covered in colorful Italian tiles and artwork, and busy with people drinking cocktails around the central bar. Unfortunately, the lackluster Neopolitan pizza doesn’t quite keep up with the promising lemon-yellow room just yet. The sauce on the margherita is bland. The inside of the puffy fritta pizza is raw. And despite having those quintessential, delicious char bubbles, the bottoms of the pies are burned. The small plates, however, like the silky eggplant caponata, are fantastic. We've ordered extras of the creamy-on-the-inside, crispy-on-the-outside potato croquette because one isn't enough. If you need a few snacks and a spritz before a show at the Met, grab seats by the pizza oven. But for great Neopolitan pizza in the neighborhood, you’d be better off at Pizzeria Vetri until this little sister settles in a bit more." - Alison B. Kessler

I was dining solo so I got sat at the pizza counter. I ordered the margherita pizza off the happy hour menu and the eggplant with focaccia appetizer. Make sure you ask for the happy hour menu if it’s before 6 pm. The $10 pizza is a good deal for happy hour. Pizza could have used a little bit of salt in my opinion but it was cooked perfectly. I’m not sure what the music was they were playing but I liked it. I think this place is worth a try!

Google
Best pizza in Philly. As authentic as you can get it, Neapolitan pizza at its finest. Lots of different options and all good. The caponata with homemade focaccia is remarkable! The place is also cute, a little dark and unfortunately your clothes end up smelling a little but totally worth it. Price is average (around $20 per pizza) for Philly.

On May 18th, we celebrated our son's 4th birthday at this wonderful pizzeria, and the experience was nothing short of enchanting. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the host, whose kindness and professionalism shone both over the phone and in person. Our server, John Baron, truly made the evening unforgettable. He greeted us with a genuine smile and provided attentive, heartfelt service throughout our meal. At one point, he even sang "Happy Birthday" in Italian for our son and surprised him with a complimentary cannoli. John's demeanor was so gracious and polished that he reminded us of a Disney prince charming, elegant, and sincere. The pizza was exceptional, capturing the authentic flavors of Italy. However, the chocolate gelato resembled a regular chocolate ice cream more than a traditional Italian gelato. One minor note: the music was a touch too loud for our liking. A slightly lower volume would have made conversations more comfortable. Overall, it was a delightful evening filled with warmth, delicious food, and exceptional service. We are grateful to John and the hostess for making our son's birthday celebration so special.

I was at Cicala restaurant once before and loved and I decided to come and try the sister restaurant called Sorellina and loved it. The main reason I came back was because Peter was an outstanding host and made out experience very pleasant. Also thumbs up to to our server Ila, which was very attentive. Best brick oven pizza in Philly, trust a real Italian on this We'll be back

Google
I’m from Italy and I think this is the best Neapolitan pizza in Philly, hands down! We come here quite often and I wanted to show this place to my family and they all loved it! The nice touch of the night was the kindness and generosity of the manager who literally ran two blocks away to chase us because we forgot our phone! Who does that!? GRAZIE!

We had dinner at Sorellini before a concert at The Met. It was awesome! Attentive staff, great food and atmosphere. Will go back when in Philly again.

Well, what can I say? As a true Neapolitan, I can honestly say I ate the best pizza I've ever eaten outside of my hometown, Naples. The food is extraordinary, everything is carefully prepared and tasty. I was pleasantly surprised, and I'll definitely be back again.

Google
We sat at the bar, and Chris was really knowledgeable about both the food and the menu, and made a few great recommendations. He even asked someone for a lighter, and charred an orange peel for my husbands amaro after he had mentioned he had it that way recently and loved it. All of my favorite things on the menu, including the best anchovies I’ve ever had. We’ll be back. The only (very small) note - we loved that music that was playing, but it was so quiet. Turn up the vibe!

Yelp
Came back to try the Stella and it did not disappoint. I've been dreaming of coming back to sorellina for pizza because it's still my favorite place in the city! The crust quality and the quality of the ingredients are just excellent. We just don't live close so it takes us awhile to drive in. The Stella was so unique and delicious! The crust just folds around the ricotta in a really chewy yet crunchy way, and the ricotta is so soft! So so yummy. I would get this again!! Highly recommend it.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of neapolitan pizza. What I didn't realize until now is that I live right next to a place where I could get my cravings fulfilled: Sorellina. After passing by this cute spot on a daily basis, I finally got the chance to check them out during their happy hour today. Upon entering, I was wowed by their ambience. Their interior design has a mix of urban modern chic look with the exposed brick wall in combination with the casual elegance of the candlelit table tops and crystal chandelier adorning in the middle section. What I didn't particularly like was their chairs, since the lack of cushions left a lot to be desired in terms of tushy comfort. For food, I ended up trying their margherita pizza and nduja fritta. The crispy nduja's breading was nice and crunchy, but the filling was a bit too salty for my liking. The margherita pizza, on the other hand, was cheesy and the saucy. Since I prefer my pizza on the soggier side, this worked out well for me. If anything could be improved, however, it would be that their sauce wasn't seasoned enough. I tried mixing nduja fritta's filling with the pizza, but the combination didn't go as well as I thought it would. Something's missing from the taste profile, but maybe it's because I'm more used to meaty toppings.

Yelp
Really beautiful cool spot. Small but cozy. The bar seats are incredibly uncomfortable but the bartender was very attentive and friendly. The pizza is delicious! Love seeing the pizza over right there. Pretty small menu with limited food/ drink options.

Yelp
Very cute! Bright and fresh w tile everywhere. We came on a Friday evening when there was a light crowd and were seated in a lovely spot by the window. We each got a pizza. The margarita pizza was an absolute delight! The stuffed crust pizza was a bit gimmicky. The sauce and crust were great with a nice spice from the sausage. We both had a really nice glass of wine.

Yelp
I'm very skeptical of hotel-adjacent restaurants but this spot really should not be put in that category. It's new and maybe has some growing pains but really is worth the try. Have to start with the service. Alexander was so pleasant and answered every question I had with a thoughtful and educated answer-for example: what is DOP tomato (plz ask). You can tell that the staff enjoy what they do and believe in the spirit of the restaurant. Turning to the food, this was good-not great but eventually will be great. We weren't super inspired by the list of appetizers and ultimately went with the bomba calabrese (tuna-stuffed Calabrese cherry bomb peppers). This was a nice bite...it was worth trying. We were really torn about the pizzas as there is a good amount of options but not a ton of variety. Ultimately, we went with the bronte, our favorite of the night (pesto, mozzarella, mortadella, buratta, pistachios-what can go wrong?), and the night special of a fennel and lamb sausage combination. I'm not so used to having so much crust and so little base layer to substantiate the ingredients, but I realize this may be what makes a Neapolitan pizza? It just made it feel like the crust and breading was a skosh dry, so we ended up dipping into a side of olive oil. In terms of growth, I think the layout of the restaurant needs reworking. The center bar is gorgeous, as are the window seats. The remaining tables seem a bit like an afterthought and need to be arranged differently because the space isn't being used as effectively as it can be. And I know this is nit-picky, but the dishware didn't seem to match the theme and could be improved upon. Overall, I think this place has a ton of potential.

Yelp
This is the casual restaurant from the chef/owners of the fine dining restaurant in the same hotel. Once it's fully open, it'll be a nice new addition to N Broad Street. The dining room is simple, but very light and airy. It also had some really fun art, which definitely gave off a vibe. I had a pizza that I think is called the "Stella," which has a ricotta-stuffed crust. It was delicious. I'll plan to come back a couple of months after their firm opening, so that I can get the "everything has been worked out" experience.

Yelp
We has a great experience here with our two young kids. Food was good, great wine. And the service was great. They were so kind to our kids and gave them dough to play with. Will be frequent guests. And the restaurant is super cute inside.

Yelp
Top fluffy doughs in the city - definitely well worth it. Drinks are fairly average. Space is interesting and airy

Yelp
Some of the best pizza I've had in Philly (or anywhere!). The Stella was a showstopper. We also loved the tuna-stuffed peppers. A beautiful space!

Yelp
Came for a pop up after hearing about this place on social media and the food did not disappoint! It's a cute spot in the Divine Lorraine with lots of natural light, good for a summer date night. Service was a bit slow, but I'm sure it'll get better later, as they're currently brand new. But the wait was absolutely worth it for the food. All of the ingredients were at peak freshness, and every bite was crafted with care. We ordered the arugula salad just for some fiber, in anticipation of scarfing down two carby pizzas, but the peppery arugula, crunchy walnuts, summer-ripe strawberries, and gorgonzola blended together in a wonderful medley, not too sweet or too bitter or spicy, just all fresh goodness. And the pizza! I'm not a huge fan of how soggy Neapolitan pizzas get in the middle, but I didn't mind it in this case because of the quality of the ingredients and the tastiness and chew of the crust. Again, all of the ingredients from the cheese to the tomatoes and endives and anchovies were noticeably fresh and delicious all on their own. We ordered the Sophia Loren and La Stella, and both were excellent, but La Stella (ricotta-stuffed pizza with 'nduja) is a must-have. The 'nduja is unflinchingly spicy, yet mellowed out by the cool and fluffy ricotta-stuffed crust. I've never had a pizza like that before and it should be a much bigger thing! For me, it was a standout pie in a city that's full of pizza. Do yourself a favor and keep an eye out for their opening, because you will want to try their food as soon as possible.

Yelp
Food was great and the service was attentive, but the ambiance is horrendous. Please, install soundproofing on the ceiling. It's unbelievably loud inside. I considered getting up and leaving, something I've only done once or twice before in my life.

Di S.

Yelp
2.5 stars I am genuinely so puzzled by why I didn't like this. It was just OK, nothing memorable -- but I had such high hopes from other reviews raving about the authenticity. Maybe the margherita was a wrong choice. Nice ambience though.

Madison M.

Yelp
Literally amazing. Came here because I saw a tiktok of the ricotta stuffed crust and needed to try it. We sat at the pizza counter and the chefs were so sweet. Service was amazing. La stella is a must. Also the gelato was seriously the best i've ever had in my life. They can do any of the pizzas vegetarian too which is nice. You gotta go here!!!!

Yelp
We had the most amazing dinner here! First, I got to the restaurant a bit early and had a glass of wine. The som, Mike, was so knowledgable and let me taste several wines before selecting one--effectively my own private wine tasting. The fried pizza was so unique and *so good*! The service was incredible--really attentive. We waited an extra five or ten minutes for our table so they comped us desert--three scoops of delicious gelato--and were so kind. Overall, the location is ideal, the food amazing, the vibe immaculate, and I cannot recommend dining here enough.

Yelp
The food is authentic and amazing. The caponata is a must try, many itialian restaurants attempt this dish but few nail it like the chef at sorellina.. also we went with a larger party so had the opportunity to try most of the pizzas, all were delicious.

Nicholas M.

Yelp
Excellent experience overall. The pizza is the closest to genuine Neapolitan in the city. We'll definitely be back!

Deby R.

Yelp
The 5:00 PM reservation started off as we were seated and a man in a white chef coat was shouting at the staff about a back pack being left out, no music being turned on and was snapping his fingers at and addressing the staff in a loud unpleasant manner. The waitstaff was nice, but the pacing was awkward. We asked for 2 glasses of their House Wine. If they didn't have it, it should have been disclosed before up selling us to the $19 and $18 per glass wines. The pizza came out before we could get a sip of our wine. Then the most bizarre thing happened: a male waitstaff member came to our table while we were eating and there were two slices on each pan and he took them away without asking. He brought them back in a box. This was not our first visit to the Divine Lorain, the outdoor Pop Ups, or Sorellina that we enjoyed immensely. But it will be the last time.

Yelp
Sat at the pizza bar with some friends. Had the daily special pizza with fresh asparagus and ricotta, and it was delicious. Service was friendly and solicitous but not overbearing. The gelato was some of the best I have had. Would definitely return
