"This Tokyo-style Izakaya spot is the most recent addition to Jason Atherton's growing restaurant empire, which also happens to be perfect for the business lunches and dinners of its Clerkenwell denizens. Here, inside a lacy wooden structure that envelopes the space, everything from traditional rice bowls, to Tonkatsu, to their must-order tuna temaki is served up with an added dose of artistry on beautiful serve ware that appears designed for each individual dish. Aside from the cozy leather banquettes for intimate dinners, the best seats are at the bar, watching the action in the kitchen. Before or after the meal, head down to the bar for wabi-sabi inspired cocktails and a long list of sake to choose from. "

I had a dinner here on Wednesday with the evening offer which is a six course dinner with a glass of wine. I was welcomed by the host and the waitress came over to explain the menu etc. The restaurant got quite busy and atmosphere was quite lively. The food was nice and actually filled us up. The toilets are worth experiencing as it's a proper Japanese seat that cleans itself. There is a bar located downstairs and locals come here for drinks. I had a pleasant experience here with a good level of service.

Had a very nice business lunch here today! We were immediately seated without a booking and a waiter walked us through the small but tantalising menu recommending we should order 5-7 dishes to share. We followed her advice and ordered 6 dishes (potentially too much for two people) and some unusual Japanese what beer which was awesome. The food was interesting, lovingly presented, packed with flavour and very well executed. Although the service was very attentive, we were a bit bemused by the order in which the dishes were served as we expected to get everything at the same time. I’m deducting 1 star because of the time between ‘courses’ which was too long, especially during lunch when diners generally have a limited amount of time. Would definitely come again but probably in the evening. Recommendation to the restaurant is to advise guests of the service time and consider offering an ‘express lunch’ or something that can be delivered quickly.

Glorious experience. We ordered a set (7-course, I think?) menu wherein each dish was impeccably presented and positively delectable-- think tender piece of sashimi on a carved plate of ice. Staff seem happy to be there and the atmosphere is perfectly laid out-- with a sense of privacy but community at the same time.

The recent tasting menu for two is a ripe off, very small portion for two. The portion is probably enough for one but not for two. The food quality is so so, there are much better Japanese restaurants with a cheaper price and have better food quality, atmosphere and service. Will not recommend.

Hmm. 3.5 stars. Food here is okay. Not fantastic which was below my expectations. Service is horribly slow. Lighting is dark but there is no atmosphere as the tables are pretty close to each other anyway. I wouldn't come again.

Japan inspired dishes. All super tasty and they now do afternoon teas! Must have is their matcha mille crepe cake.

A lovely meal out. Great food, amazing staff and a nice atmosphere. This was my first visit and I will definitely be returning. Plus best toilets I have seen in a good while.

We visited here for my friends birthday, and I must say that the food is very nice, although some dishes were slightly over salted. I can't for the life of me figure out, but the service felt a bit shambles - our waiter seemed extremely stressed, but was nice! Unfortunately they assumed we would be waiting for one last person to arrive which meant we didn't start eating until 1.5hrs after sitting down. The waiter also told us that he would come and talk through the dishes with us before we ordered, but that didn't seem to happen. The decor is very nice, really enjoyed the music - some form of 80s chilled out background music. Would definitely come back, but would also hope for a smoother service!

Yelp
I came here for lunch. It is a small counter space within sosharu, Japanese restaurant. It only serves course meal. It only has around 8/10 seats I believe. The food is Japanese kaiseki inspired... so expect quite Japanese flavour but Not traditional kaiseki per se. I enjoyed it for £65 a course but I must say it was n t exquisite for me... I think all the dishes needed further refinement. The menu may improve over time... it just opened quite recently, I believe. I think it will now do no lunches but two seatings for dinner so you may be rushed?! I quite enjoyed one seating, relaxing atmosphere. Hope it won't loose that...
