Best Restaurants in Flagstaff, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"When Flagstaff restaurateurs Paul and Laura Moir closed Brix (one of Flagstaff’s first upscale modern American restaurants), legendary pizzaiolo Caleb Schiff (of Pizzicletta fame) snapped up the renovated space and decked it out even more, creating an elegant yet welcoming all-day hangout whose name means “stopover” in Italian. Locals drop in, often with laptops in tow, to work or relax over excellent coffees, baked goods, and breakfast items like the simple but superlative breakfast sandwich (egg, melted cheddar, herbaceous chimichurri, tomato, and arugula on sourdough). By early summer, there will be sandwiches for lunch, pastas and pizza for dinner. Save room for dreamy gelato and note that breakfast on the patio is bliss." - Nikki Buchanan

I absolutely loved Sosta! It is the cutest resturaunt ever. Sosta is a little bit hidden in Flagstaff, but soo yummy! It's very cozy yet clean. The seating areas are super nice and they have an outdoor patio, too! We went for breakfast and ordered the French Toast (Heavenly!! Actually so delicious) which comes with fresh blueberries, homeade whipped cream, maple syrup, and all the yummies. 😋 We also ordered the Hash Bowl, which was very fresh and filling without being heavy.

WOW WOW WOW, from the food to the atmosphere, this place is absolute perfection. The focaccia and olives were the perfect start, and our drinks were incredible (the Fior di Limone was my personal favorite). But the real showstopper? The Spicy Rosmarino. Truly a religious experience; I’ve traveled through Italy and nothing even comes close to how divine this pasta was. I also have to mention our waitress Rachel, she was amazing, so friendly and attentive, and made the experience that much better. If you’re looking for a spot with amazing vibes, reasonably priced delish food, and cocktails that actually impress, this should be your next food destination.

Incredible food and friendly service. Was the best food we had in all of our trip across the US Southwest! Highly recommend going out of your way to go there. Great veggie options, and the chicken was the best we had anywhere in the States. Staff are super friendly and engaged, they make you feel great!

We loved this spot so much that we ate there twice in one day (breakfast and dinner). The restaurant is located in what appears to be a renovated house, which is a welcoming vibe. For breakfast, we had their chia and nut butter bowl and breakfast burrito. Both hit the spot! The bowl was hearty but balanced—not too sweet, but still satisfying with a dried fruit and nut butter topping. The breakfast burrito was delicious—melty cheese, fluffy, eggs, seasoned potatoes—all the things one would want from a breakfast burrito. Both dishes were very generous portions! For dinner, we had the stracciatella and mascerated fruit, roasted olives, spicy romarino pasta and the formaggio pizza. We were hungry and it was all so delicious that finished all of it between the two of us. Again, very generous dinner portions and super fair pricing. Last but not least, they have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, including dog-friendly seating in the front and back patio. We hope to come back soon!

This is a new, trendy brunch spot in Flagstaff. The atmosphere is warm and trendy, and the food is reasonably priced. The coffee and food are excellent.

Wonderful place with very friendly and caring staff. It is very clean, has lots of seating indoors or outside. Some of the best coffee in town! Their soup and salad were delicious—all ingredients are fresh and are not overpowered by dressings/spices. Their strawberry scone was by far the softest and freshest I’ve had in a while. Keep it up guy!

Google
I’m so disappointed. I love pizzicletta, but now having tried Sosta for breakfast lunch and dinner I can safely say this place is not on the same par. Breakfast Sammy was pretty good. Lunch BLT was dry and like, I’m sorry, but I can make a better sandwich at home. Bean soup was terrible. Dinner pasta was horrible. Pizza was good, of course. And I really loved the Pims Cup Mocktail. Service was great for breakfast with a couple of the women bringing pup cups for all the dogs on the patio. Then dinner service was perfectly pleasant. But lunch service was not good. I brought my friend for a late (2:30) lunch and really wanted her to try the Pima cup mocktail I loved. Tried to order that and the kid at the counter said they only serve that after 3pm. I said “so I cannot have it now?” And he said “no.” That’s it. Haha. I’m sorry but that is the worse customer service move. So you have to follow this arbitrary rule and you will not serve me the only thing I actually like at this restaurant because it’s 30 minutes too early? It’s not like there weren’t people to make it. I was staring right at 3 separate people making drinks and what not behind the counter. And even if there was some good reason they weren’t able to make it 30 minutes early, maybe tell me why instead of say “no”. I don’t think I’ll waste my money here anymore.

Fantastic use of a historic building. The food is good, but the menu is limited. This is a place where you relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Yelp
Great place, inside a historic carriage house, excellently designed and well thought out. Servers were friendly! Coffee came out slow, seemed like 10-15 minutes for a drink. Maybe about 15-20 minutes for a sandwich and yogurt. Seems like there is room for efficiency. Food: excellent quality! However, I think everything was under-seasoned. Even missing Salt and pepper. The blueberry oat bar was nice, but again lacking flavor, like adding a little lemon or spice. Same with yogurt granola with berries. Berries were bland and I wish some honey or something was used to brighten the dishes. Overall, very vanilla. Love the space though, so will be back to try something else.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the atmosphere on the back patio. We already had a dinner stop prior so just tried their caesar salad but it was good. It was on the mustard-y side, had crunchy pumpkin seeds and housemade cashew parmesan. I really liked the texture and crispiness of the salad in particular. I have had vegan caesar salad dressings and cashew based cheeses that I liked better but I still really enjoyed it. It is a few minutes walk out of the busier area of downtown Flagstaff and surrounded by houses which made it less busy and less noisy. We really appreciated the peacefulness and lack of lines and crowds. They have a vegan pizza and vegan pasta on the menu and has a vegan cookie in the bakery which we didn't try because it was a stop in the midst of a little dinner hop :) My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! An Evie favorite!

Yelp
Got the latte, hash, and French toast Latte with oat milk - tasty and not bitter Hash - nice sauce, would be nice to be able to add a protein side French toast - nice citrus in the egg batter but overall the egg batter ratio to French toast was so small, the dish was primarily bread Nice ambience outside with some shade. However, the layout is a bit clunky. In picking up our drinks and getting to the table, I was brushing by other guests.

Yelp
We ordered matcha latte, americano, breakfast sandwich, and the hash bowl. Americano is good but impressive, but I don't like the matcha latte, matcha was not strong enough and tasted a little bit watery. Food was good, most of the dishes are vegan, the side salad of the breakfast sandwich was flavorful but light, and the sandwich was also refreshing. The hash bowl was also amazing, I liked the pesto sauce on top, and the flavor of sweet potatoes and potatoes were also great. There were many seats and the environment was great for relaxing.

Yelp
Lovely setting, good coffee, fast service. Enjoyed the flowers, fountain, shade tree. My friend had the meatball sub...check out the picture. I am a fan for life!

Yelp
This must have been an off day. I won't write my thoughts because there were way too many hiccups. Definitely will try again.

Yelp
What a perfect place for a summer night's dinner! We sat outside on the patio with a bottle of wine, two pasta dishes, and two pizzas. I noticed that there was almost no one sitting indoors, for good reason, as it was lovely outside. There is table service at dinner, which I prefer to the counter service at lunch. The wine selection is small, but well curated. The carbonara is worth the whole trip, but the lemon thyme fettuccine was no slouch! I do enjoy the Pizzicleta pizzas, so I'm happy to enjoy them in b an elevated setting. I'll be back!

Yelp
Sosta truly has the best ambience in flagstaff. The building is beautiful, with patios in the front and back. While the food is quite good, you definitely pay a premium for the location. The prices might be less noticeable if they came with some service, but after hitting the counter to order, you're pretty much on your own for everything. Don't let that dissuade you though, it's a solid spot for a weekend breakfast or lunch.

Yelp
They forgot about us and left us waiting for about an hour. Never came to serve us. I hope this improves.

Yelp
Be prepared for no service, order at the counter and hope that your meal is what you ordered. I ordered the tofu caesar wrap and was asked by the rude front counter person whether or not I knew what tofu was. Then my wrap showed up with bacon on it. The restaurant was dirty and unorganized, the food was awful.

Yelp
This place was so cute from the outside but the food was tasteless. When you walk in it was a little confusing, but you have to look at the menu that are at the front counter and then order at the front counter cashier and then she'll give you a number and I'll come find you in the seating area. My friend ordered avocado toast and it was served swiftly. She said there was no flavor even in the avocado mash. It took several minutes to find someone to ask for salt and pepper to help. My burrito didn't arrive for nearly 30 more minutes. My food was also bland. It came with two kinds of potatoes the Yukon were still raw and the sweet potatoes were overwhelmingly stuffed in the burrito. I used ample salt and pepper but was overall it was a waste of money. Maybe they are better other days.

Yelp
A true gem in Flagstaff -- pasta perfection. Sosta is incredible for lunch. I can't speak to breakfast or dinner yet, but based on what I've experienced, this place easily earns a spot in my Top 5 pasta experiences -- and that includes living in Italy for six months and traveling the world in search of great pasta. I've had the Rosmarino and it's nothing short of divine -- sweet, rich, savory -- hitting every note on the palate. The Pepito Pesto is also excellent: nutty, zesty, and full of flavor. I typically add their house pancetta, and it's always executed perfectly. Portions are spot on -- satisfying without going overboard. The pasta is handmade and made to order -- and you can absolutely tell. The texture, the freshness, the love that goes into it -- it's all there. Some may prefer dried pasta, but if you're a fresh pasta fan like me, you'll be in heaven. Drinks have been well-crafted and balanced. And don't skip dessert -- their salted caramel vegan gelato is now my favorite post-pasta treat. The setting? Storybook-worthy. Nestled in a historic carriage house with warm lights, lush foliage, and a private, tranquil vibe that feels miles away from the bustle. While I can only speak to their pasta offerings, they are, hands down, the best I've had in Flagstaff. Shift Kitchen is the only other contender in my book. Can't wait to return and try the rest of the menu. An absolute must-visit for any pasta lover.

Yelp
Came for coffee and breakfast, and left with an experience. Just passing through from Colorado to California and this is a highlight of our trip. Great service and quality for nice prices. We'll be back!!

Yelp
Top notch ambiance is the draw - very romantic and cute; great place for a date. The self serve water station was unique. Food quality is high. Pricing is above average but not extreme; in particular it felt like the beverages were expensive. Biggest drawback during our visit is that we had a "where's the beef?" situation whereby both the breakfast burrito and mushroom bowl were filled with potatoes but not very much egg.

Yelp
While this sort of American cafe food isn't my usual thing, this place does stand out on two accounts: 1. Their milk-based cafe drinks are _really_ foamy. The matcha latte (with whole milk) was perhaps the most well-blended with foam I've ever had. 2. The dishes are very well-seasoned and have unusually fresh ingredients. While the hash bowl doesn't have the crunch of a hash brown, the potatoes are perfectly tender, the herbs are just enough without being overwhelming, and the other vegetables are very fresh.

Yelp
This café has ample space, both indoors and outdoors, and it's conducive to work, relaxation with a good book, or a fun outing with friends. The coffee was delicious, and I also enjoyed the citrus French toast, though I didn't find it particularly citrusy. The service is friendly and courteous. Don't expect to get your drink or food in thirty seconds; however, the wait was perfectly reasonable. If you use Google Maps, you may get lost. The main entrance is on San Francisco Street, but the entrance to the parking lot is off an alley.

Yelp
Very cute atmosphere! Coffee and breakfast were great. Portions are large and very sharable. I want to come back for lunch or dinner. We will be back!

Yelp
I love this place! I went the weekend it opened and have been going every weekend I can since then. I love to come here, grab a drink & something to eat, and then chill and read a book! I love the space, and the staff is very friendly :) Highly recommend for a quick stop or a long hang.

Yelp
Really nice spot a couple blocks from downtown. Beautiful patio space in back, plenty of indoor space. We ordered the spring mix salad with apples and added chicken & a cold matcha green tea, very good. As well as the kale ceasar salad & tomato bisque soup. Soup was great, kale salad was decent. Will definitely be back to try breakfast.

Yelp
Charming ambiance in a cozy, rustic setting. The food was delicious, and it was a perfect way to spend an early evening. Dinner service starts at 5, but there are plenty of tasty snacks and drinks to enjoy while you wait for the kitchen to open. We had a lovely time.

Yelp
Exceptional historic building. We ate on the back patio. Very serene and beautiful. Unfortunately the food was not on point. My husbands pizza cletta pizza was burned and the mushrooms overcooked. My pasta sauce was not good...fettuccini was a little undercooked even for Al dente. Our apple chèvre salad was good except ruined with too much dressing. The gelato was good. I wouldn't say amazing. All in all except al fresco dining it was meh...expected more...

Yelp
This place has a parking problem. I saw people parking their vehicles illegally in a business that is off of Leroux St. The access/address for Sosta is San Francisco St. but the customers are taking over the entire neighborhood. Bikes are locked to trees on private property with the owner's knowledge. If I lived in this area I would be super upset with the amount of noise, traffic, and disregard for residents personal property and right to peaceful enjoyment.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch. My wife and I got pasta with chicken. Sat on the patio and the ambience was perfect for a summer afternoon. Pasta was nice and light with complex flavors. We got two different pastas and can't wait to try the others. The only con was the chicken was slightly overcooked, but nothing that severely detracted from the meal.

Yelp
They did it yet again! Amazing place to work, service is always great. Great coffee, great matcha, great pastries and pasta! Will continue to keep coming.

Janet H.

Yelp
We enjoyed a latte and double espresso outside on the back patio. Latte perfectly made and patio quiet and secluded from street. Parking free since restaurant/cafe a couple blocks from historic downtown

Mark P.

Yelp
We went there with friends for the first time and we liked the food, but the overall service lacked friendliness. Sitting at our table with dirty dishes for over 30 minutes after we were done is just not a good look. They asked if we are done and needed anything and kept walking. Even coming into the restaurant they don't make you feel welcome. Atmosphere and setting are great, but not guiding your guests through your set up and how things work isn't a good start.

Denisa G.

Yelp
A must stop for the best pasta in flagstaff, great ambiance in a tucked away neighborhood feeling.

Yelp
This is the perfect little neighborhood restaurant. I have been twice since I learned about it last month. The drinks and pastries are great. It is the kind of place you can meet a friend for lunch or come by yourself and work or read. The physical space is very inviting and the vibe is perfect. I love it!

Ashley O.

Yelp
Stopped by here for coffee before heading back to Phoenix. Absolutely adorable inside and had a wonderful vibe. 10/10 for atmosphere. However the coffee was some of the worst I had ever had. It was so incredibly bitter and I ordered the local special they had with a lavender sweet cream on top. My husband tried it and agreed as well. I went and asked for more sweetener and it helped a bit but it was still so bitter. Wouldn't return for the coffee.

Yelp
Great coffee. Thoughtfully crafted recipes. Effortlessly contemporary and comfortable.

Yelp
All around bad experience. Both service and food leave something to be desired. There was a point where we sat for ~40 minutes unaddressed with empty drinks and no food. What makes it worse is that the owner was sitting a few tables down and we continued to have bad service. The pomodoro was a glorified crushed can of tomatoes without seasoning and the meatballs were almost rubber. The pizza was severely underdone and nothing to write home about. The happy hour drinks are passable at best. There are definitely better spots in Flagstaff. We live around the corner so this is very disappointing.

Yelp
Great coffee, rich, flavorful. Good food. There are several different areas to hang out, each with its own unique character. We'll be ba

Yelp
I'm giving 2 stars because my first experience here was better. We had a nice dinner over the weekend where even the owner was upstairs and very kind and talkative. The food that night was good, and the price was okay. Fast forward to today for lunch and it was awful. First of all when you walk in and ask what pastries are vegan be cautious and ask fora list of ingredients. My daughter was told the coconut macaroon was vegan and bought one. Before she ate it, I told her that's very rare and that most use eggs. She went back to double check, and the kitchen staff (maybe manager?) finally read the ingredients and told her she was right there were egg whites listed, and they were misinforming folks. Not cool. Then we ordered a cup of tomato basil soup (vegan with no cheese) to go and a Vegan Caesar salad to go. The salad to go is very small for the price they charge. They gave us a number, and we went upstairs after getting our coffee. No one ever came up 25 min later we went down, and it was sitting on the counter. My daughter opened up her soup and 2nd mistake they put cheese on her vegan soup. I tasted the tomato basil soup and instantly gagged. It was pure salt and seriously not edible. I ran down to tell her not to get a replacement without cheese and let her try mine. She also gagged on the copious amount of salt and could not eat the soup. We told the same kitchen lady about it and she seemed incredibly annoyed with us. The cook tasted the soup and I saw him tell her yes it is too salty. He even came over and said he was sorry and did not know what happened. They offered kale soup they made which was just broth a few beans and hardly anything in my cup to make it worth the money. Go in cautious if you are vegan or have allergies for sure. The staff (outside of the owner in my prior experience) aren't super friendly and just want to get you in and out. I love the ambience of this place, but they have to step up their game big time. I paid $28 before tip for a cup of soup and salad and a small coffee. Not worth it.

Yelp
Had lunch at Sosta today, the food was OK, not outstanding. The atmosphere is wonderful, the decor etc, loved the concrete tables. A few things to consider, we were upstairs, the water station is downstairs, with no pitchers to carry water to table so had to be very careful with water and hot drinks going up the stairs. The "service" was not exceptional. The food was brought to our table which had no napkins, and a glass with a note asking us to bus our own tables. I gave a 20% tip at the counter when I ordered, but had I known that I would have to go up and down the stairs to refill my water, as well as the two elderly ladies who were with me, as well as bus my own table, I may have left only a 10% tip. Needs a little work.
