December 2024, winter in Baveno, most restaurants are closed. Here we are, a couple from Florida, United States freezing our butts off wandering around the empty Baveno town and plaza at around 7 o clock at night trying to find ANY restaurant that’s open. We were the only two people out on this cold dark winter day. We had just made it into town from an extensive travel day on train from Switzerland and had just checked into our Airbnb. After calling numerous restaurants, Sottosopra answered with a friendly Spanish woman’s voice and invited us in. Walking in, we were the only two customers that night. I was amazed and surprised they were attending us. The customer service the Spanish waitress provided for us the entire night was superb. She was so kind, authentic and deeply passionate about the food she was serving us. We spoke briefly about the importance of food culture in both Italy and Spain. She recommended an excellent red wine to accompany our meal. The food was the best meal we had in Europe after our 2 week stay across different countries. The chef surprised us with Parmesan ice cream… it was MIND BLOWING. The red wine braised octopus was bursting with umami and it was served pillowy clouds of potatoes. My boyfriend ordered a rabbit bolognese which was out of this world and we ended the meal with a chocolate cake and some homemade limoncello. If this entire gorgeous spread of food, accidentally private dining experience and an entire bottle of red wine didn’t warm our souls, certainly the great hospitality of our waitress and chef and staff did. Thank you so much to Sottosopra for this unexpected but oh so memorable meal and night. It was a highlight and best ending to our European winter trip. Thank you!

My daughter and I ate here on a Sunday after spending 5 days in Baveno. We were so disappointed with our experience. We noted upon arrival that there were several large parties and later we came to realize it would affect our evening. It took 15 min to get a glass of water. Another 10 to take our order and I finally reminded the waiter I was still waiting for our wine. In fairness the wait staff only 2 of them were working furiously on these other tables…the restaurant was busy. We ordered the cheese in filo and the prawns to start . We thought the starters were fine…especially the prawns. Next came my daughter’s ravioli and my filet of sole. We were both disappointed and didn’t eat. A rare occasion for us! We did not order dessert but rather chose to return to Hotel Dino’s Last Hall restaurant for their Tiramisu and a glass of wine as we needed something to “lift us up” from our disappointing evening….highly recommend that!

Food was excellent both starter and mains. Staff is welcoming and despite it was Sunday and last customer they didn't stress us to leave quickly. Reasonable prices so a nice place to eat out.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming. English was spoken. If you have intollerances be sure to raise it. They showed me a list of menu options and what they contained. Food was delicious and restaurant was clean. There was a good range of menu options. I will return during my next visit.

We can very much recommend Sottosopra. We went there for dinner and have been lucky to get a table at the balcony. They offer a la carte, or fix Menü (3 courses or 6 courses). Food and service are excellent. Italian atmosphere for free!

Absolutely amazing! You will not be disappointed in the service, the food was amazing and the wine and atmosphere were fabulous. This is definitely a 5 star restaurant!

The food is excellent, but the best of this restaurant is the service. We with the family love sotto sopra for the amazing service, always with a smile! The waiter Igor is a passionate man who is always in for a laugh, and the girl with glasses also provides amazing service. The food shows the expertise of the high skilled cooks in the kitchen, and there is something for everyone. High variety in the menu - fish, meat, and vegetarian. You do have to make a reservation a couple days in advance, but it’s 100% definitely worth it!
