Detroit’s Best Soul Food Restaurants | Eater Detroit

"This east side spot is led by a mother-son duo. As the name suggests, Soul 2 Go focuses on takeout, particularly in the ribs department. Select full or half slabs of beef or pork ribs slathered in sauce, whole or half barbecue chicken, fried chicken or turkey chops, sides of candied yams, cornbread dressing, seafood pasta salad, peach cobbler for dessert, and more." - Serena Maria Daniels

From the moment you walk in, you feel the love and energy at Soul 2 Go. The staff is welcoming, the service is quick, and the food is absolutely unforgettable What makes this spot different is the consistency and quality. You can tell they put pride into every single dish, and the portions are more than generous. On top of that, the atmosphere is always warm and family-friendly. I’ve been here multiple times, and each visit gets better. Whether you’re grabbing food to go or dining in, Soul 2 Go makes you feel like family. If you’re looking for comfort food that will keep you coming back, THIS is the place. Highly recommend to anyone in Detroit or visiting the city 🔥 don’t miss out on this gem. They have a new $10 soul bowl to die for 😫😭 *Not on the menu

I am tired of supporting businesses that do not produce a good product. I ordered a full slab of beef ribs, but they were very tough. When I placed my order today, I informed the young lady that the half slab of beef ribs I had last week was also tough. Given this feedback, I expected today's ribs to be tender, but that was too much to ask. Additionally, the potato salad lacked flavor. The highlight of this establishment is the fried chicken. Lastly, they failed to remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. I spent over $50 on this disappointing meal, which I ended up throwing away.

This was my first time eating inside of the restaurant and I enjoyed the large menu. It was very great to see and I liked that I was able to get two sides. The macaroni and cheese was very good and the greens tasted good. The woman at the register was very helpful.

TERRIBLE!! Waste of money I ordered the 3 piece turkey chops with mac&cheese and greens the turkey chops were extremely dry I’ve never seen turkey chops like this the Mac and cheese was very bland no seasoning what so ever also the greens tasted bad seems like they weren’t cleans or came out of a can. As you can see from the photos the entire meal went in the trash don’t waste your money.

I had the pleasure of dining at Soul 2 go, and it truly felt like a home-cooked meal with soul. The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The mac and cheese was creamy and rich, with that baked crust. The yams stole the show sweet, buttery, and perfectly caramelized with just the right hint of spice. They were rich and comforting, like dessert that pairs beautifully with savory dishes. And I can’t forget the BBQ sauce smoky, tangy, and with just the right kick. It tied everything together perfectly, whether on the baked chicken or dipped with a side. That sauce alone is worth coming back for! The special item, the corned beef sliders, was a pleasant surprise. Tender, juicy beef stacked on soft buns and seasoned to perfection..they were unique & flavorful. Together with the friendly service and cozy atmosphere, this place really knows how to deliver soul food with a twist. Highly recommend!

Google
This is a pickup Soul Food restaurant. My half-barbecue chicken dinner was excellent and smoked to perfection. The sauce on that chicken had me wandering about the other food on the menu, it was that good. The greens were good I didn't taste like vingar. And the sweet potatoes were sweet. The cornbread dressing was dry but good. They do offer gravy. The mac and cheese was not seasoned but it was cheesy. And last be not least the cornbread muffin was dry and lacked flavor. I will be back to try other things on the menu. It was nice and clean. I liked the wood on the outside of the building that was unique. I believe it's a family-owned business. The employees were very friendly. They are closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Which is ok with me because I usually come to the city on the weekends. The food took 15minutes to make. And I sat in and ate my food. Overall I enjoyed my experience at Soul 2 Go.

Hands down one of the BEST soul food spots in Detroit! From the moment you walk in, the energy is welcoming and the aroma of fresh, homemade cooking hits you instantly. The portions are generous, the flavors are authentic, and you can taste the love in every single bite. The mac & cheese is creamy perfection, the fried chicken is seasoned just right with that golden crunch, and the sides taste exactly like something straight out of grandma’s kitchen. On top of that, the staff is friendly and makes you feel like family. If you’re craving real soul food that leaves you full, happy, and planning your next visit before you even leave Soul 2 Go is the spot. Trust me, once you try it, you’ll be hooked. Detroit soul food done RIGHT🔥

Yelp
Nice modern little to go meal place in Detroit that I stumbled across today. I ordered the BBQ grilled chicken wings that were fall off the bone delicious with plenty of sauce! The candied yams melt in your mouth . I also got the Mac & cheese, which I personally didn't like because I prefer a more liquid gooey cheese. But if you like baked Mac & Cheese then you should definitely try it. The service was fast and servers/cashier were kind. Google says the place is open at 11 am, but the sign on their door said they aren't open until 12 pm. I believe the owner personally handed me my bag and thanked me for coming. I wish I had had time to chat and catch her name. I would definitely stop by again if I'm ever in the area again!

Yelp
I know what you're thinking...the food looks real good from the pictures. Nothing could be further from the truth...The meat that was served to me was undercooked in fact some of the meat still has blood coming from it . I was very disappointed to say the least. I give all new businesses the benefit of the doubt but when you serve food that could possibly kill someone. I have a problem with that

Yelp
A must try! Customer service was great, friendly staff. All my food was delicious and fresh. No long wait. Clean on the inside and they weren't out of anything despite it being evening when I went. The yams were to die for!!

Yelp
Now I see this restaurant have high reviews , but let me tell you that's definitely not true , first let me start off by saying the place was definitely clean that's a plus in my book, now let's get to the food I had fried pork chops Mac and cheese and greens , pork chop was seasoned good , Mac and cheese was horrible & greens let just say whoever making them need so guidance on making them like grandma, I had a order of beef ribs , super tuff meat , which I had beef ribs that was smoked faking off the bone so I knew instantly the beef ribs was a disaster , but the bbq sauce was pretty good and tasty , my wife had the bbq chicken , which was not hitting on nothing at all, no grill taste or if it was baked just in case they say that it was , it definitely wasn't baked long enough , just a tip when that bbq sauce sticking to that bake chicken u know u about to eat some good baked chicken , I can dam near wipe the bbq sauce off the chicken I purchase from this place and it was baked good at all. If that was baked chicken , because it was not grilled at all, second the candied yams was fire , now them was some good yams , texture was perfect , sweet not over sweet perfect , plus i had a sweet potato pie which was delicious as well, whoever put there was the yam receipt definitely know what they doing on them yams. Service was pretty straight forward no complaints, food even came out on time , which I questioned how fast know when it come out fast it usually be nasty , which this place was not horrible but need so work in my opinion, my meals came up to 88 dollars worth of food, and only 30 percent was actually good , yams was a plus , pork chop was decent , fried and seasoned good , they was center chops not my preference but overall they was ok , sweet potato pie ,good , would come again , probably not , but I will say this soul food is a very hard pleaser to people so this a place where it only can be judge of how you make your soul food at home, which everyone think there soul food is super good , so I say go try for yourself maybe they will have a better experience when you go. Just my day was a hit and miss . It's not the best soul I ever had, and price are not worth it , unless your soul is all around good , which they definitely have so hits and misses
