19 Black-Owned Coffee Shops In Chicago

"At Soul Full Cafe in Pilsen, you can pop in for some yoga, pick up a new book, and also grab a cup of coffee. The drink menu at this three-in-one coffee shop, bookstore, and event space is short, with just traditional coffee drinks, tea, and a couple of fruit smoothies. But if you ask about their secret menu they'll make you a creative drink." - john ringor

This is by far one of my favorite black owned finds in Chicago. The service is amazing and the owner Mariah is super down to earth and personable. The environment is warm and inviting and the book finds are also worth checking this place out!

This place is A1, never the 2. My friend and I came in on Sunday afternoon after randomly finding out about this place and we were NOT disappointed. As you walk in, you’re greeted with the sound of beautiful music and the sweet smell of incense. You walk to the back, and there’s a coffee shop and the (I’m guessing they were the owner) owner greeted us as soon as we walked in and asked if we had been there before. They asked if we needed recommendations, but I was in there for one thing only and that was the fruit loop matcha. Fruit loops have been dear to my heart since a child so I was so excited to try the drink. It was AMAZING, literally 12/10 the owner did that. I didn’t even wanna finish it, that’s how good it was. My friend got the iced vanilla lavender latte and it was fye. The coffee was strong, yet still sweet and cold throughout. Yummm. I will 100% be back!!! Run, don’t walk to Soul Full!!!!

Super cute space m- the owner and team did such of a nice job on the decor! The store manager greeted me when I walked in and kindly answered all of my questions about the books and the store itself. The barista was kind as well. From my experience, the staff really treats the customers in a professional and courteous way. I enjoy Soul Full as a nice place to read and crank out a lot of work and they’re open on sundays!

Soul Full Chicago is an AMAZING Business! I’ve been for several events and I’m always excited to attend. Great Books, Great Atmosphere, Great Events and the New Cafe Is Amazing!!! The owner and staff are so welcoming and warm. It’s like you’re home away from home… If you’re looking for a place to relax, rejuvenate, or refocus Soul Full is the place. Also, great space for Private Events!

Lemme be clear. I'm not really a coffee drinker... Unless Soul Full made it, then I'm a connoisseur. The mocha is currently my favorite, but the brown sugar baby is not far behind. On top of all that, the vibe in Soul Full is impeccable. The owner has an incredible eye for decor and it shows in how welcoming the vibe is. With a rotation of shows on Thursday nights, a neighborhood incubator for artists of all kinds (tattoo artists presently), the hood flourist in the basement and good people always in attendance; this spot is honestly worth spending all day at. A neighborhood gem, absolutely 🔥🔥🔥

Yelp
This café is so beautiful! It's in a prime location with plenty of street parking. I love the french vanilla swirl and lavender flavored coffee (iced or hot). It has such good cozy vibes and is good for solo hanging/working or a small group outing. Would return again and again. The decor is so outrageously beautiful as well.

Yelp
Such a comfortable, chill, coffee shop with a hint of bookstore. The honey lavender latte is excellent! Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area.

Yelp
Cute and welcoming coffee spot with an assortment of fun lattes! I ordered the fruit loop matcha latte that tasted just like the name and was delicious! My friend ordered the brown sugar latte which she enjoyed. Highly recommend!

Yelp
THE BRIGHTEST PLACE ON EARTH; Good for your eyes, ears, mind and soul. I've followed this place on Instagram for a while and longed to experience it in person since then. It did not disappoint!! Within the first step through the door, I became hypnotized by the assortment of colors from the books, walls and beautiful flowers. Each piece of decor will have you staring at it for minutes. There is even an in house DJ to help you express whatever mood you are in! I love the owner and employees as they are the perfect fit for this wonderful creation. Coming back is no question for me. With all of its events, yummy drinks and mental stimulation, you will truly love it here.

Yelp
Comfortable, relaxing, thoughtful, colorful and inviting. This place is a gem tucked into a bustling downtown Pilsen street. It is a wonderful escape from the fast paced world outside, and has been worth it every time I've stopped in. Mariah is a wonderful owner and host. She brings nothing but good vibes and has been building a beautiful community there since its inception.

Yelp
While visiting Chicago and staying in Pilsen, I wanted to grab a coffee and chill for a moment. I yelped a few spots in the area and ended up @Soul Full Chicago. I loved this totally chilled bookstore/Cafe spot. Great energy, fantastic music, friendly staff and a really good cappuccino! If you're in the Pilsen area, I would highly recommend!

Yelp
What a great little shop! Come in and you'll find a book you need, if not a book you want. Picked up a new copy of a bell hooks book that I devoured in my undergrad. I wish we had time for coffee because we heard it was good, but we had so much else to do in Pilsen. Staff was awesome, friendly and made us feel welcome. They also recommended another great bookstore, @semicolon, which we went to after this.

Yelp
It's just a lovely spot, it feels good to be in this place! A friendly, nice cafe with immaculate vibes that also sells spiritual stuff. But honestly, a place worthy of becoming your regular coffee spot!

Yelp
From the moment my friend and I walked through the doors of Soul Full Chicago, we were in conversation, learning, building community and being filled with warmth and company. I am so excited to return with my daughters and friends over and over again. The cafe in the back is welcoming and you feel like you're at someone's home where creative cooking is going on.
