The Best Soul Food In Philadelphia - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"When you head to Soul Greedy in Spruce Hill, you’ll notice a few things: the mint green walls, Whitney Houston throwbacks playing, and people eating soul-calming food at every table. It’s an easygoing place where everything is perfectly seasoned—but we love their catfish nuggets, potato salad, mac and cheese, and greens (a mix of collards and spinach). Come daily (like most people in the neighborhood) or bring your out-of-town cousin who needs to be saved from eating yams from a can." - candis mclean

Where To Eat In Philly When You Don’t Care About Sports - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"West Philly’s Soul Greedy is a laidback spot to enjoy a platter of creamy mac and cheese, beautifully breaded catfish, and tangy potato salad. The take-out-only soul food spot has sports-memorabilia-free walls, and you’ll never find someone setting up a screen for a Union match." - candis mclean

Food was delicious but the green beans had too much seasoning but still edible. The salmon pasta with broccoli was 10/10 amazing. The spicy Cajun wings were so good and I like that you get rice as a free side with your meals. The mashed potatoes were the best too. It does take 30 per order so stay prepared. Get the peach lemonade too. There is no parking so have somebody drop you off

Google
I was in town for the Nas concert and went here early in the day to get something to eat. I got the salmon Alfredo and a side of brushed sprouts and Mac and cheese. And I must say it all was pretty good

Never been to the actual place seen on tiktoc I’m like oh that look good I order at 35$ pasta it was bland big peppers not cooked shrimp with the tail stil on it and shoot prices of salmon that look like tuna . I also got Mac an cheese yams and fried fish in other platter and the Mac was dry honestly the fish and yams were good just disappointed looks good but taste don’t match

I’m glad that I came across this place when I was looking for food to eat. The lady at the counter was friendly and welcoming. The food was well prepared. It wasn’t salty at all. Full of flavor. The desserts are a bit pricey, too bad I wasn’t able to try one. Whenever I come back to Philadelphia, I will definitely check this place out again and try some of their other selections. My brother had ordered their stuffed salmon with macaroni and cheese, which he absolutely adored. So that might be my next meal from them.

First let me say the service was top tier. The woman at the counter was super nice and helpful. The wait time was not long at all. We ordered 2 platters Fried Salmon with Mac & String Beans and Turkey wings with greedy greens and mac. Salmon was delicious and fried to perfection. The string beans were good but way you too salty. The portion of the sides was lacking based on the price of the platters. The Turkey wings were very small, definitely should have had another piece for the price. The Passion Fruit Tea was amazing. Overall this was a good experience just a couple tweeks. We would probably try them again.

Google
First time trying Soul Greedy & I must say it’s absolutely delicious. The green beans are flavorful and sautéed to perfection. Now, the pasta I love. I love that the sauce is homemade, and it’s savory. The portions are great too. Highly recommend & kudos to the chef!

★★★★★ Soul Greedy is a MUST! From start to finish, everything about my experience was amazing. I ordered online through their website (Toast), and the process was super smooth. The customer service? Top-notch. Friendly, efficient, and professional. Now the food — absolutely incredible! I had the fried chicken, flavored wings, mac and cheese, greedy greens, and the platter even came with some buttery white rice that was surprisingly delicious and brought the whole meal together. Everything was seasoned to perfection and full of rich, soulful flavor. Soul Greedy truly lives up to its name — you’ll be greedy for more after one bite. If you’re in Philly, this spot is a must-try. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I wasn't sure what I had a taste for and then Soul Greedy popped up as a place to try. It's a takeout or eat in restaurant. They also sell fresh pressed juices. The woman taking the orders was very nice and friendly. The large TV was a good distraction while I waited the 30 minutes for my food to get prepared. The lights were bright and it was clean inside. I ordered the Greedy Entree with fried whiting, yams, and sautéed spinach. The highlight of this meal was the sautéed spinach. It was packed with flavor, I could have gotten a double side of that. 5/5 The fried whiting had a nice crunch and the coating had a nice texture. The only drawback was the fish was a bit dry 3/5 The yams were OK, not too sweet. That's it. 3/5 If I lived in the area, I might try something else on the menu because they have several items to choose from. Give em a holler if you are in the neighborhood. Let me know what you got. Til we eat again...

Yelp
Food is delish! Packed with flavors and mac and cheese has a great texture and consistency. String beans cooked just right. The spicy honey garlic has enough kick and sweetness without over powering. Service was quick. Waited for 20 minutes. TIP: when you order through GrubHub or UberEats, make sure you go their website first and then click either apps. When I ordered directly from the UberEats app, they didn't get my order.

Yelp
Wow! Extremely good food for extremely good prices. The seafood salad is amazing and the shrimps were perfectly seasoned! The lady at the counter was very nice and gave great service too. If you decide to eat inside, there is plenty of space to sit down

Yelp
HORRIBLE FOOD WAIT TIMES AND TERRIBLY SET UP RESTRAUNT. THE OWNERS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING. ALSO MANY HEALTH CODE VIOLATIONS : 46 Leak observed from the drainpipe under the rinse basin of the warewash sink. 53 Grease stained wall surfaces in one for the food prep areas. 53 Porous ceiling tiles throughout the food prep areas are not smooth, easily cleanable, and nonabsorbent. YUCK!

Yelp
Usually I try to wait for multiple reviews before I jump to try a new restaurant and I wish I would've been consistent with my decision making... When I decided to try this spot if I recall correctly there was only 1 review, which was a 4 or 5 star review and I saw multiple pictures of different dishes that made me think, "maybe this place isn't too bad"... It was a Saturday night so I assumed they would be busy so tried to call ahead but could not get an answer so I decided to take a risk and drive to the restaurant. My hubby rode with me; when we arrived there were multiple cars double parked outside of the restaurant so he went inside to order for me - I wanted the Greedy Greens, Mac and Fried salmon but there were no more Greedy Greens so he requested Brussel sprouts for me instead. It took about 35 - 40 mins for the restaurant to notify my hubby that the food was ready for pick up (he was notified via text). When I arrived home the food was still a great temperature and the presentation was fair. Since this was my first time ordering fried salmon I decided to try that first and it was good - a tad less moist than I would've like but the flavor and temperature were good; the Mac was good too - no special callouts though. When I tasted the Brussel sprouts I was disappointed, they were soft as if they had been boiled and they were in a sauce that it seemed they could've been boiled in - I did not like these at all. Sadly, I will not be returning to this place. While my hubby did say the staff that he encountered were pleasant and appeared to be working hard to get orders out, the food was not quite what I would've expected and the long wait didn't help.

Yelp
This is what I'm talking about. It's been hard finding good soul food in Philadelphia this satisfied my craving. I got lemon pepper wings, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes, even the rice at the bottom was great. I thought it was expensive at first but this is a hearty plate, I ate about half. I went back for lamb chops and green beans, both also really good. The people inside are friendly. Make sure you order ahead or you will wait at least 30-45 minutes. It was busy when I went and they sold out at like 8:30pm.

Yelp
The establishment itself is not bad. There is an employee who is short and a women, she is very rude to delivery drivers and does not have the patience or respect, to talk to people, who are also trying to make a living, decently. My friend works for DoorDash and he went into the establishment asking about an order he got from DoorDash. The said employee upon asking about the order, said that the order wasn't ready, my friend therein asked how long until it's ready, and the said employee replied; "I don't know". How do you not know how long it will take? Upon asking her further questions she got irate and rude, which is not becoming of good customer service. If you work at a business as an employee then you should know how long it takes for an order to be ready. You can even say 10-15 or even 20 min so the delivery person has some knowledge. This employee has been rude to numerous delivery people who then cancel the orders, leaving the ordering customer dismayed because they can't get their food. I was fortunate enough to be on the phone when my friend came in for pick up of food at this location and I was able to record the conversation. Which I am contemplating submitting to the local radio station and or news. This type of behavior by, less than successful people, who haven't strived for more, is not tolerable. Everyone deserves respect.

Yelp
Horrible waiting time! We arrived at the restaurant at 5pm on Sunday. We ordered chicken and waffles and a grilled salmon dinner. We did not get our order until 6:25pm! The kitchen staff never gave an update. The cashier/order taker did the best she could to manage the customer complaints however the lack of customer service surpassed her ability. We came from Maryland and won't return to this establishment!

Yelp
Man where do I begin?! So I was looking for some soul food and boy did I find it‍ Food literally fed my soul! I had a fried salmon dinner with mac and a whole lot of cheese , some of the best yams I've ever had ! I definitely would recommend ordering ahead but the wait wasn't bad either. They were definitely doing their thing in the kitchen so be quiet and wait lol. I will definitely be back ! Over and over! And hopefully I can get them to cater my wedding in the future

Yelp
Food is superb and service is great. Portions are well worth the price and the ambiance is quaint. Parking in the area is a challenge, but that's not related to the business. The staff are very friendly and professional. The juices and desserts are very good too.

Yelp
I had fried chicken wings, mac & cheese and greedy greens. Everything was salty. The oil needed to be changed as the chicken was not crispy, the coating came off in various parts, was overly browned and very salty. The mac & cheese was not creamy and it was dry. The greedy greens (collards & cabbage) was ok, just too salty. My bestie had the shrimp Alfredo and she said it was good. She also got banana pudding which turned out to be "banana-less" and while it said that on the label it would've been nice if the cashier had mentioned that, especially since it was $12.

Yelp
Found this place on tik tok and it did not disappoint. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. You can eat in or take out and I believe they also offer delivery through door dash. I couldn't decide what I wanted so we tried a little of everything and it was all absolutely amazing. Everyone loved it, we could not stop eating. I definitely recommend the greens they were so good and I don't usually like greens but these were unlike anything I've ever had before. I also recommend the Alfredo my kids loved it. You can not go here without trying the shrimp platter it was so good. I give this place a 10/10 if your in the Philly area do not miss out. This is a black owned business so definitely go support !!!!!!!!

Mychelle D.

Yelp
Soul Greedy... is my first and last! The barbecue chicken wings delicious! But the mac & cheese, taste horrible I would've been better off buying mac & cheese from KFC... The greedy greens were straight up, greedy, nasty. And don't let me talk about the greedy, seafood salad that was filled with salt! I am truly disappointed but it is a lesson learned! I spent $68.00 for two nasty platters with delivery. The cost of living is already expensive and I don't have money to waste. I won't get a refund and that's fine but I will Never Ever order from this restaurant again. And the driver is a pervert. I sent my 14yr old daughter to get the food and he took a picture of her behind...as she's bending over to get the food. Come on!? You seen her open the door and get the food no need to screenshot her butt. Smh... this is the Worst! Buyers beware.

Daniela U.

Yelp
Omg the wings were phenomenal !! The collard greens is a must have side to purchase and don't get me started on the strawberry lemonade

Yelp
Really good food like the service as well has good ambiance too nice spot to try out when free

Michael J.

Yelp
Me, my brother and mother enjoy going out for lunch and we do quite a bit, We're always trying new restaurant's and decided to give soul greedy a try.....First of all the prices are a little too high for what there selling, We went during lunch hour which you would think would be busy except it wasn't, The portions where small and food was mediocre at best, When we arrive and let me just say that I'm not racist at all but there where two indian girls working the front which turned me off right away because let's just be realistic, It's soul food restaurant and southerners are definitely number one at cooking authentic soul food, it would be like going into an Indian restaurant and having two white guys, not very authentic my opinion...the food was dry and tasted like it had been made days before... Hey everyone has their own opinion and tastes so I encourage others to try it even though I didn't enjoy the food maybe others will. I'm just saying that I didn't and the prices weren't Worth the quality they were handing out. Sorry, hopefully they read these reviews and are able to change what needs be changed so that they can become a successful restaurant??

Robin P.

Yelp
This food was horrible extremely dry Mac and barley cheese in a very small portion guess they are greedy with the servings didn't even get 2 full pieces of fish I got 2 small near tail pieces an 1 full piece just a very sorry expensive experience I means for 55$ I think I should have gotten atleast 2 full pieces of fish NEVER AGAIN wish I could upload a picture

Margie J.

Yelp
Food and service is great! Great soul food spot in West Philly area! Restaurant is very clean and chill spot to eat.

Lexys S.

Yelp
My food was HIGHLY upsetting. I ordered the stuffed salmon , Mac and Brussel sprouts . The salmon was well OVERCOOKED , HARD AND DRY. The Mac and cheese was blocky with no flavor. This meal could have been wayyyy better especially being as told that food is made fresh to order and it was not even a busy time of day.

Sophia W.

Yelp
this place is nasty! i order with 3 other people and we all put it in the trash alfredo with salmon... so cheesy

Lovely L.

Yelp
Im sorry but the food wasnt really that good the cajun wings were very salty i couldnt finish the food . the sides were decent but the mac and cheese were way too cheesy and the wait time is over an hour. For the price it wasnt worth it..
