London’s New Restaurant Openings

"A new music venue in Stratford, Soul Mama is in the lobby of The Gantry hotel. And as well as live jazz, soul, and gospel music, they’re serving braised beef burritos, coconut curry chicken, and Jamaican callaloo patties. " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Food was excellent. There wasn’t a single thing that I tried that wasn’t good. The food takes a bit long to come out once you order, but the taste more than makes up for it. It came out hot and fresh. The music and vibes were great as well. Everyone gets up to dance. They could do a little better with spacing out the tables so that people are still able to use the dance floor without it feeling like you have strangers dancing over your food. 4.5/5 stars

Went to see Fortune collective today with my mum, niece and mother in law for a birthday treat from my mum. Mum got up on stage, no shame 😂 but she loved it. The band were amazing! Great energy from all of the band. Loved how they drew the crowd in and came round the tables performing their magic! Definitely recommend to go see them! That was the Best Saturday afternoon! My heart is full and happy❤️And of course me belly full too from the yummy food! Truly grateful 🙏🏾

I paid about thirty pounds for my ticket, and a few weeks later they started offering tickets for around eighteen. I tried getting in touch to ask about a refund or price adjustment, but never got a reply. I was told both on the phone and in an email that doors would open at 6:30 and the music would start at 7. I even left work early to make it on time. When I arrived, they told me the performance wouldn’t begin until 8. It felt like they just wanted people there early to spend money at the bar. The venue itself is nice, but the noise coming from the kitchen made it hard to hear parts of the show. Menu/drinks were also expensive. Six pounds for a soft drink and six and a half for a canned beer seems a bit much. That said, the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming. It’s just a shame the experience as a whole felt disorganised.

Went here for a DJ music event - to have a dance. However, the set up was too much like a restaurant with a very small dance floor, dominated by the long tables of diners. The kid running on the dance floor, no no no - no parents seeming to care, this was late too on a Sunday night and no staff to have a word with the parents. Then the kid goes and touches the vinyl record on the deck in the stage!! Wow! Soul Mama manager why are you not attending to this?? Would not want to go here again for a DJ event as it felt like I was at a wedding!! We had the chicken wings and plantain, as prices for the food were a bit pricey and the dishes we saw, the portions were not that big. The staff were not able to say what was gluten free or not. When the 4th member of staff was able to advise, I asked why something so simple could not be placed on the menu to which she replied the ingredients can vary… eh? It is not that hard! I choose the rum sauce for the wings. The wings were tasty but the plantain portion was small & a bit dry. Would I return?… probably not, trustingly not if I am paying to eat there as I do feel their prices are a bit too pricey!

Kellie went above and beyond to make our night special. She sat us at the best seat in the house and looked after us from start to finish, along with our amazing waitress, Michelle who catered to our every need. The atmosphere was incredible, and Lucy and her band absolutely nailed the Amy Winehouse tribute - such an outstanding performance! Both my mum and I had an unforgettable evening and will definitely be coming back. Huge thanks to the team for making us feel so welcome!

I had such a good time at this venue. The staff were really friendly. The artists and band were incredibly talented and well rehearsed. The food tasted really fresh and there was not an exceptionally long wait time for the food. The venue itself has a great atmosphere. I’d highly recommend a trip to Soul Mama.

Wow, what an experience! The music (Rick Leon James and band) was phenomenal. Started with a live band and then later transitioned into a DJ. The food was very good and filling - our group had a mix of different dishes, all of which we enjoyed. The cocktails were decent. Service was excellent and very engaged
