Soul Mama Music Venue | Restaurant

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Soul Mama for the Classic Motown duet featuring Tanya Edwards and Thomas Vernal, and we had such a wonderful time. Our table was booked for 6:30pm. There was a short queue when we arrived, but once inside we were quickly shown to our table and made comfortable. The tables were nicely arranged, creating a lovely atmosphere, and the service was warm and friendly throughout the evening. It became busy quite quickly, but the staff were clearly doing their very best to ensure that food and drinks were served as promptly as possible, which we really appreciated. The music was absolutely fantastic. Tanya and Thomas worked beautifully together and kept the energy and vibe going all evening. Their performance truly made the night special. The live music wrapped up around 10:30pm, followed by an after-party, which was a great way to round off the evening. All in all, it was a very pleasant and enjoyable experience, and I would happily recommend it to others.

Visited Soul Mama for the first time last weekend for their Soul Fest night and my gosh, it was wonderful! The performers were absolutely fabulous and so talented. The atmosphere was special, even if the audience was a bit stingy with applause. I made sure to whoop and holler my appreciation! My friend and I had great front-row seats (a little cosy with neighbouring tables, but no real issue). The night continued with a brilliant DJ, and I had a fab time on the dance floor. My only critique is the speed of the bar service. I appreciate it was a sold-out night, but waiting 20+ minutes for a drink was quite slow. That said, it’s a fantastic new, Black-owned venue for London! The vibe is special, and with a little time to smooth out service, it will be unbeatable. Highly recommend supporting this place. I'll definitely be back and am excited to see it flourish!

I had an absolutely fantastic time seeing Tanya and Thomas perform Motown hits. My mum and her friends, along with my friends and I, thoroughly enjoyed the incredible display of talent we were so privileged to witness.The energy in the room was amazing, especially during classics like It Takes Two and Respect by Aretha Franklin. The performances were powerful, soulful, and had everyone singing along. The band was incredibly tight and professional, creating an authentic Motown sound that elevated the whole evening. A special mention of thanks and gratitude to the wait staff, who were so patient and attentive despite our table being quite a large group. Their service really added to the overall experience. An unforgettable night of music, talent, and atmosphere! Thank you Sole Mama!

Lovely venue, though too many tables crammed into the space, it is a business so I get that. Waiter was attentive, though restaurant was not busy, early Monday evening, two other sets of diners that I could see. Started with crab gumbo which was tasty and filling. Then onto Oxtail Mac and Cheese, and this is where the disappointment came. Having overdone it adding a roti skin to mop up my gumbo, I decided to doggy bag my main. On warming it the next day, I found that the OXTAIL inside was about 6 scraggy ends of no more than 1cm a piece. I understand that the meat needed to be deboned for this dish, but please, the meat did not cover the bottom of the dish, it was just dotted in places. This experience was a treat for myself and a friend. As Caribbeans we expect hearty food and I felt that I have not had the feel of eating oxtail as I would have expected. This dish could have been amazing with proper execution. Give me good food and i will pay the price, on this occasion the price was not justifiable.

It's okay. Won't be going back again unless someone I'm desperate to see isn't playing anywhere else. It's just a very odd, chaotic place; one person manually checking names off a list for a sold out show despite us having a QR code for entry, everyone was there before the doors opened but the music started while people were still waiting to get to their seats, therefore blocking people's views as chairs were moved and seats were found in the dim lighting. Confusion as to how to order drinks; our server told us to turn the table lamp on to order, two separate people came by to turn it off, with one being a little curt when telling me to keep it off and simply walking off when I explained why it was on. Ordered shots at one point, didn't arrive, ordered two mains, didn't arrive. Didn't chase either because the couple next to us were disappointed in their food and how the time it took to arrive, plus I didn't feel like spending anymore money on drinks beyond the 6 bottles of Asahi we had. Really enjoyed Omar; second time we saw him in the year (with him persuading Eric Benét to come on stage for a bit). Was hoping to add an alternative to Boisdale into rotation which gets a lot of similar acts but isn't Black owned, and doesn't have YolanDa Brown (someone I've loved since stumbling across her at Canary Wharf's Jazz Festival over a decade ago) but I think I'm okay with travelling a little further for good music with food and drink that turns up. And to top it off, the owner (not YolanDa) politely asked the room to respect the performance and other attendees by not talking, only to stand at the booth and constantly talk and laugh with patrons throughout the performance. Could I have asked him to be considerate? Maybe. But would I? Absolutely not after the pass agg interaction I had with a member of staff over the lamp. Hopefully it'll get to a decent level of service that matches up to the quality of the venue and acts they can attract. Really wish I remember the name of our server; he was a delight (and wasn't at fault for either the lack of food nor shots as he didn't take the orders)...his name may have been Oz as that was on the receipt but I'm not too sure.

I should have written this review a long time ago! I visited this beautiful place a few weeks ago to celebrate my friend’s birthday, and it was amazing. The atmosphere was great, the music was fantastic, and the environment was very friendly. I especially want to thank two girls: Nicole and Tanielle. Nicole was incredibly kind when I arrived—I looked completely lost! She welcomed me with a huge smile and, even though she was busy, she handled my request brilliantly, always with a smile. And the AMAZING Tanielle—hope I’m spelling her name correctly—ohhh! Such a lovely, sweet, and approachable young lady! She dealt with a very confused “bunch of flowers” (us!) and managed to sort everything out, ALWAYS with a smile. Very professional! Thank you so much—you were amazing! Highly recommended.

Mid overall. I had high hopes for this place as I visited for brunch with a live music show. The music was a solid 10/10, great vibes and an amazing live band, which really carried the experience. The food… sigh… was just okay. The starter was underwhelming: the plantain mountain wasn’t moist at all-just flat, dry plantain with pulled beef that tasted a little sharp. The main was disappointing. The “creamy coconut curry” consisted of about five small cubes of chicken and was hardly creamy, with very little coconut flavour. The rice and peas were bland and lacked any noticeable coconut or seasoning. Service was also slow-we waited almost an hour between the starter and main and had to prompt the waitress. I’m guessing the day and time I visited played a part, as it seemed very busy, so a few things may have fallen off the mark. The live music and atmosphere were great, but the food didn’t quite live up to expectations.

What a place what a brilliant evening listening to Bishop Saxz and his band and his gorgeous talented wife also playing sax. Incredible and amazing and probably the best live show we as a group of 4 have ever seen . The venue was perfect intimate wonderful food and drinks at great prices made even better with the 5 star service from Anjan. We will definitely be back!
