London’s New Restaurant Openings

"A new music venue in Stratford, Soul Mama is in the lobby of The Gantry hotel. And as well as live jazz, soul, and gospel music, they’re serving braised beef burritos, coconut curry chicken, and Jamaican callaloo patties. " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Great Soul when it comes to Music; lacking soul when it comes to food and service. We entered the venue and were greeted by a lovely lady who welcomed us and arranged for our seating at the dining table. Note that the tables are either in two’s, or generally long tables where you can be sat with others depending on your group size. The music and artists are superb. The crowd is a very cool vibe and for this, I would return. Omar did a stellar job performing and in the crowd that night, there happened to be Eric Benet who got up and also sang which was awesome!! The food and food service…… hmmm. I had read the reviews about service staff being confused etc. Our group of 5 had a friend celebrating birthday. We ordered some food and drinks. One of the dishes arrived to one friend after 20 mins, the next dish arrived 10 mins later, even though the waiting staff weren’t sure if they were our meals. Drinks took 45 mins to arrive after us asking a number of times. The birthday friend was then presented with a chicken wings platter after 1 hour 10 mins and she never ordered that dish. In fact, she ordered something else and after 1 hour and 40 mins just asked for it to be cancelled. They kept bringing over meals to our table that didn’t belong to us. I did speak with one of the waiting staff who simply apologized and said the kitchen was overwhelmed. I think the process should be clearer for the staff waiting tables and kitchen staff. Seems to lack alignment. The cauliflower main dish was £22! Quite steep in terms of pricing versus what you get. We did pay a separate ticket price for the artist also. Value wasn’t there in terms of food. The bill then arrived incorrect, although the funniest part is the Service Charge statement: 12.5% service charge is added for parties of 1 or more. In other words, if you don’t attend, you don’t get changers. As I said, I would return for the artists.

Where Food Meets Soul, and Music Tells a Story 🎶 Last Saturday was pure magic @soulmamalondon, an immersive dining and music experience like no other. Imagine the vibrant flavors of Africa, the Caribbean, and South America coming alive on your plate while the smooth sounds of live jazz fill the air. @thegantrylondon The highlight of the evening? Ineza graced the stage with her soulful voice, delivering ‘Women’s Words, Sister’s Stories’ - a tribute to legendary jazz divas with songs written by incredible women. It was a night of swinging jazz, and her performance left us in awe. But Soul Mama isn’t just about the music - it’s a feast for the senses. Under the creative genius of Executive Chef Aleandro Brown, the menu takes you on a flavorful journey that’s unforgettable. The food? To die for. The ambiance? Perfect. The welcome and service? Flawless. Plenty of other performers are lined up in the weeks to come - don’t miss out! Check their website, book your table, and prepare for an evening that will feed your soul. I felt privileged to experience it and can’t recommend it enough!

We definitely had a ‘value for money & time’ night. The motown/soul singers started off the night before an African powerhouse group came on, who were the main act. It was an entertaining evening and the food was great. The venue location and its convenient station & parking needs to be added/clearer alongside the address so it’s easier to find & more people can enjoy the variety of events, performances and vibe that this fantastic place offers.

Great music venue, some fantastic artist too. Sound system okay. Sadly, they could not accomodate my garlic allergy and there was nothing on the menu I could eat, expect fries or broccoli, they could not make me a salad, all pre-made with garlic. I ate broccoli, whilst my friend ate a full meal. They had no chicken or salmon that was not marinated, the rest was frozen, according to the staff. Really disappointed I could not eat! It was a night our for my friends bday. Sadly, I will not try and eat there again.

I enjoyed the food and big up to our lovely server, Tasia ( hope I got the spelling right!) However, the service was so slow! I ordered a drink but I'd finished eating by the time it arrived. I even saw it on the counter but it took a while to be brought over. My friend's tea took so long and had to be reminded. We attended the Afrobeats event and I found it chaotic! The performers were on and off the stage with the woman periodically checking her phone and answering text messages - which, frankly, I found unprofessional. Nonetheless, I appreciate a younger demographic might not mind this. I would return for another performance though and would appreciate to be seated at the back since we were right in the front in the middle of the pandamonium!

First night in London and Soul Mama was one of the restaurants in our hotel. We stopped in earlier in the day to view the menu and saw they had a wide array of Caribbean inspired items. We came in around 10pm and had no problem being seated. The staff is very attentive and accommodating and the food 10/10. It was flavorful, came out fast and was presented well. I thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes we tried, the drinks, the music and the atmosphere . If you’e ever in Stratford give them a try. Thanks for having us💜

This place was 10/10! Honestly, it topped my favorite restaurant in America. We came in during lunch time to check out the menu and the staff were eager to greet and service us. They even made time to get to know our names and shake hands to develop an interpersonal relationship. The food was absolutely amazing. The service was top notch! Our server & bar tender was exceptional! Even the manager personally took our order and delivered our food to the table. They even offered to take our pick! This is absolutely a 5 star experience! Highly recommend!

Came to Soul Mama twice in one weekend, once on the Friday 19th September with my friend for the club night and it was absolutely such a brilliant night, the barman who served us made the loveliest cocktails and was so funny, the other bar staff were so friendly and smiley, the DJ that night - Reggie was fantastic and played such a great mixture of music from R&B, Soca, Dancehall, Reggae and some old school funky house, was such a good atmosphere and will definitely go back on a Friday again and then I was lucky enough to win tickets for the Sunday 21st which was for Yolanda Brown's - Bob Marley songbook, which was phenomenal WOW what a talented artist she is and can she play the saxophone, I was in awe, along with her incredibly talented band, was one the best nights ever, again the staff were so friendly and went above and beyond for us, we even got upgraded to front row seats thanks to the kindness of the manager - what a lovely man he was. Have yet to eat there but the food looked and smelled divine so will definitely be going back for that too. Could not recommend the place enough and shall be telling everyone I know about Soul Mama and they will most certainly be seeing me more. Can not fault the place at all and just to add the decor is stunning, you forget your in Stratford, what a venue. Thank you to all the staff for making our night so incredible - God bless you all 🤍🙏🏼
