The food here is so dang good - like family recipe, Thanksgiving dinner good. If you read no further, bottom line, the food is definitely worth a visit and the customer service is 10/10.
Stamford is an odd area. There's dozens of Italian restaurants, a couple Mexican and then one of every other culture so there's not a wide variety but there's options. With that being said, not all food is good food and the food in Stamford is hit or miss. Well Soul Tasty is definitely a hit! The fried chicken was so flavorful - if you say otherwise, your taste buds are broken or it was a different chef. The flavor was in every bite of the meat and not just the fried skin. The crunch was still present after we walked back to our hotel. All Black people make greens different so this is preference - take it as you may but personally, I do not like overcooked, sweet greens. I don't care what your Big Mama does, I don't like it BUT Soul Tasty found the perfect balance between sweet and savory. The greens were seasoned and had depth to the flavor. They were not just diabetically sweet - still overcooked in my opinion but I ate every bite. Now the mac & cheese...again everyone makes it differently and I will say this one was more traditional no frills mac but really tasty. The noodles were soft and there was ample cheese throughout so there's not much to complain about but I will say that I would have appreciated it just a bit creamier. While the chicken was still crunchy by the time we bit in, the mac & cheese was a bit stiff. The cornbread was unique but so good. It was on the sweet side but definitely had baking spice (think Fall, nutmeg, all spice etc.). My husband loved it. Being from out of town and not trying to door dash my life savings, Soul Tasty is conveniently located walking distance from a couple of hotels.
You can eat in the restaurant, I think there were 2 tables and a bar top with chairs - max 10 people could fit inside, I'm guessing. The area is moderately shady so just be mindful of your surroundings if you walk. There's a gorgeous park (Mill River I think) that is around the corner so have a picnic. To top off my positive experience, the service is IMPECCABLE. Whoever owns this restuarant, I hope you read this. The young boys you having working are so polite, courteous and have better customer service than 99% of adults I come across. It is incredibly commendable and such a joy to see young black teens learning about entrepreneurship, customer service, proper food handling and developing a good work ethic. I will absolutely be back next year for the food but I will also be back just to support a Black owned business that positively impacts the youth. Kudos!
