I consider myself an avid spinner, and I've spun at YAS, REVOLUTION SPIN, KINETIC CYCLING, HUSTLE & FLOW, EQUINOX, etc. Basically I've tried every studio on the West Side. At first, I tried to boycott SoulCycle because I thought that its $25 per class price was ridiculous. But after hearing a friend of mine rave about it, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and take a class at the SaMo studio.
So I sucked it up, paid the $25 and I took a class. I showed up 5 minutes late because parking in that park of Santa Monica is a bitch, but since I was familiar with how to set my bike up, I didn't miss a thing. So I clipped my shoes in and listened in for the teacher, COLE, to direct the class. Even though it's a fast-paced and hi-energy class, the moves are easy to follow and they are well coordinated with the music.
It was in all respects the most intense and aggressive workout I've ever had. I almost spun until I passed out. Keep in mind that I didn't really know how to pace myself since I've never been to this studio, and I was working it hard from the minute I jumped on the bike. But right at that moment when I couldn't take it any more, Cole said that we were riding home. I can't tell you how relieved, proud and tired I was in that very moment.
NEW RIDERS:
The first class is $15, but you're going to have to call the studio in order to take advantage of that deal and to sign up for a bike. You cannot book it online for $15.
PARKING:
Street Parking -- It sucks. Parking on the street is sparse, and some of the meters are 30 mins only. So unless you're lucky and someone pulls out of a clutch spot right in front of you, don't go looking for street parking. You'll be late for class making rounds in Santa Monica.
Parking Structure -- Call me crazy, but I DESPISE the SaMo parking structures. Even so, Structure #2 is across the street from Soul Cycle and it's free for 90 mins. Keep in mind that you'll have to compete with shoppers for parking, and that's assuming that there's even open spots in the structure:

Parking Lot -- Personally I prefer the lesser known, small SaMo public lot on 3rd. You may pass it by without even noticing it, but it's easy to get in and out without a headache and I've never had a problem finding parking there. It's a sure thing and I like sure things. BUT it'll cost you $1 per hour, so keep that in mind:

TIPS:
-- Choose a bike in the front row so that you're not sitting in the dark! Don't be shy, everybody in the class is struggling and sweating buckets. Embrace it!
-- There's a fresh towel on every bike, so no need to bring your own!
-- Programmable lockers to store your belongings are available for all spinners
-- Show up early if you need to rent shoes
-- Figure out a parking strategy before booking your class. Parking is literally the only reason I docked 1 star from the rating. I wish they would have opened up their studio in a less busy area of Santa Monica... and where there's a parking lot for their riders.
...ask me now how I feel about that $25? Well, let's just say that you get what you pay for. It's pricey, but it was worth it. I'll be going back for sure.
