"This serene coastal refuge is just a couple hours east of New York City. Each room is just steps away from the hotel’s private beachfront, but the Two Bedroom Hot Tub Suite comes with its own secluded waterfront perch: an old-school, wood-fired cedar hot tub built by Forest Cooperage in British Columbia."

"The Sound View is a former roadside motel on a quarter-mile of private beach facing the Long Island Sound. The interiors nod to the property’s midcentury roots while also honoring the region’s seafaring past; in the airy blonde-wood lobby, for example, captain chairs and maritime oil paintings feature alongside rattan loveseats and 20th-century Holophane fixtures. Meanwhile, the 55 guestrooms feel like veritable ship cabins, with thick cedar-lined walls and panoramic water views, which can best be seen from the expansive private decks." - Travel + Leisure Editors

For the second time, we spent a weekend at the SoundView. Our room faced the sound via a very nice public deck that runs across that back of the facility. The room was spacious and comfortable. We had an excellent dinner at the hotel restaurant, with great service. The property has a beautiful pool area. However, the pool is not heated, which prevented enjoying it. That is my main wish for this place. But a great setting overall, with lots of very good nearby restaurants.

I Love This Place! I have been viewing the website for quite sometime and finally found a great affordable weekday deal! It was just what my husband and I needed; relaxing get away with amazing views! Staff was very friendly and accommodating; as they got us in our room early. We definitely plan to return!

The motel was updated in recent years. The rooms are no frills. Cold concrete type floor. Some rooms have carpet under the bed. Bathroom is very small. Ours didn’t have anywhere to put toiletries. We visited pre-memorial day so didn’t experience the pool or Jack’s shack. We also visited early in the week so the restaurant was not open. Continental breakfast was good! Seemed like fresh baked croissants and muffins. Also had bagels, cold cereals, packaged yogurt, hard boiled eggs, juice and coffee. ||All of the rooms have a great water view.

I usually do not post reviews on line, I travel the world to review hotels and resorts for several travel companies, but I. This case I feel I must. When booking the Sound View Greenport from the site the first thing noticed the price was high for what was offered. Taking into consideration that the site might not be sharing all the benefits of the Hotel I set that though aside. We arrived on a Monday at 345 to check in and was told our room was not available yet and they were still cleaning it. I was asked for my cell number and they would text me when it was ready. Whole I was waiting I took this opportunity to walk the grounds. There are a few buildings, one was a two story building and the other was single level, all facing the water. The condition of the buildings was in a sad state, old run down and dirty. The pool looked inviting and it's surrounding area was clean. We were paged that our room was ready and proceeded to our room, Unlocking the door confirmed what I was seeing from the state of the outside. The room was very small, window A/C only, no microwave and as basic as room could be. No rugs on the tile floor, very cheap decor and bedding. I have spent 1/2 of the price and stayed in 5 star restots with full amenities. Speaking of amenities there are none. The restaurant that is attached is outdated and makes you feel as if your eating in a cafeteria. Don't get me wrong, the views are spectacular. This is the only thing this hotel has going for it. The price for one night on a weekday is about $500 plus taxes and resort fees. That turned out to be another $150. This icing on top of it all is you self park in their parking lot across the street and are charged $26 a day. It my recommendation to find a place that is a resort and has amenities for what you would spend on the road side motel. If the owners of this establishment would like to reach out to me and explain the cost of a executive suite in Hawaii for the quality of a Model 6 style room please do. Great view, severely overpriced Motel.

Couldn’t be happier, the hotel was clean and modern and we could hear the waves outside our window. It was great for a family with a toddler. He loved waking up and walking out onto the back deck to watch the water and sea gulls. Service was excellent. We will be back!

Such a beautiful area. I never write reviews but please be AWARE: An old man walked in while I was half-naked and changing. I called the front desk to complain and they said “oh didn’t you ask for housekeeping”…. Housekeeping came 30 mns prior and I tipped them, also the person who came in was a white old man wearing pool attire? ||I took a little trip with my boyfriend this weekend but let me tell you, I WOULD NOT FEEL SAFE IF I WAS ALONE. I didn’t feel save every time my boyfriend left the room, because why on earth would another person have a room key to my room. Also, this happened at 2 pm on Monday. Their check-in is at 4pm, meaning this person coming back from the pool just had access to my room. And just to give you another idea, everyone at the front desk looked MISERABLE and was RUDE AF. I’ve gone to other 4 and 5 starts hotels, and this reception was the worst. I’m sorry I am bothering you by being here? ||Last thing, never heard from a manager regarding what had happened. I'm not even sure if there was a manager during my stay.

Google
Great location and view, cozy rooms. Our stay was ruined by overnight rain leaking in through the Sound-facing door. One backpack with children's books and one shoulder bag with clothing left on the floor were soaked by the morning (and two books nearly ruined). Perhaps the rest of the rooms are in better shape, but buyer beware. I cannot recommend this hotel.

Recently our family patriarch passed away. When he was alive and we were going through life’s challenges he would always, “Take it to the water and you’ll feel you’ll feel better.”Well, I felt a peace wash over me upon entering the premises. The room I was in allowed me to be one with nature. I came home a new person, with an insight gained that allowed an inner glow and healing. Thank you!!!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights (although we booked through Airbnb and saved a little $). The room was large and spacious (junior suite). Every room overlooks the bay and has a stunning view. There are first-come first-served beach chairs and umbrellas so you can walk off your deck and sit right on the private beach. There is also a pool and you can rent bicycles - neither of which we used on this trip. Continental breakfast is included. It's simple and not over the top but it serves its purpose. Honestly it was nice to see their spread instead of what you see at other hotels (bagged scrambled eggs, for example). This was hard boiled eggs, cereal, danish/croissants, yogurt. Bananas and apples. They had almond milk for any dairy allergies. We dined at the restaurant Halyard on our first night. It was an incredible meal, but I'll review that separately on their Yelp page. We sat outside which was hot as first but then we got to watch the sunset while dining so it was worth it! The room was clean and stocked with a full mini bar of drinks and snacks, which we didn't buy, but it was nice that it was there lol. Parking is free and it's onlya 5 minute drive into downtown Greenport. This is the perfect location!

Yelp
Property is good More training for front desk . I was there before 3pm I know check in is 4pm .Room is not ready I back at 4:17 room is still not ready suppose to be chek in at 4pm.(I signed checked in paper) They said holiday weekend which is I understanded and they said my room is ready in 20mins.I was waiting at the pool and got a call 4:51pm .no one said sorry. My husband was there get a key but they asked again ID without me( which is i paid full with my name of card and I got a checked in before I was there and signed in .) Name is Anna her attitude she shake her head to front of my husband her behavior was unpleasant, ignoring the customers. I made plan for my long weekend for rest. I existed but never had this moment.

Yelp
The Soundview Motel was built by the Levin's on Greenport shoreline in 1953. The motel was recently purchased by the Eagle Point Hotel Partners firm based in Manhattan from what I read. The Motel has seen since the new acquisition upgrades on their bedding, pool furniture and other various areas. We lodged on the second floor of the motel which had a large outdoor deck overlooking the Long Island Sound. The accommodation was comfortable, clean, and the weather was perfect for our three-day stay. I believe that the new owners will eventually be remodeling the Motel once they have a better understanding of the area.

Yelp
Amazing. Best views and rooms are beautiful. Breakfast is not bad only problem they run out of things. Karaoke night at the piano bar so fun. Getting u was were super easy.

Ed M.

Yelp
Overpriced is an understatement. First day. We check into our Suite. Smells like sewage. Call the front desk from my cell because the room phone doesn't work. They are apologetic, but the only other room is a one bedroom and will not move me there. So we stay in the poop suite. Day 2. You have to call for housekeeping. I call at 11:30am. Front desk says room will be done at noon. Wife and I return at 4:45pm. Room is not cleaned. I call the front desk. House keeping is done for the day. They finally showed up at 5:30pm as we're leaving for dinnewith some clean towels. Beach- classic, Rocky LI sound beach. Great view, that's it. Pool- not heated and in disrepair. And the snack shack wasn't open on a Saturday?? Restaurant- Food is decent but way overpriced, once again paying for the view. $600 a night. I've seen better continental breakfast at a Hampton Inn. $25 a night they charge for parking . 11% added fees for room cleaning and "resort fees". And they only clean the room if you call and get on the schedule. BAHAHA! Place is a Joke.Save your money. Get an Airbnb. Or go to Montauk. You'll pay the same for everything and get a real beach.

Christine S.

Yelp
Steer clear of this place. Overpriced, dirty hotel. There were stains on the comforter that were clearly sprayed with spot remover instead of changing it with a clean one. Overhead light in the room didn't even work. After 9:00 pm there is no one onsite to even help you. Only saving grace is the view. The food at the restaurant was good quality but very limited menu. The waitress suggested we order 2 of everything. Just put a decent size entree on the menu? The bar area was extremely underwhelming. If you are considering staying here, do yourself a favor and DON'T. They clearly rely solely on the view.

J H.

Yelp
This place is way overpriced. It's a three star hotel and nothing more the upholstered furniture in our room and in the restaurant had stains on them. The room had no counter tops to put things on no storage at all. The windows were locked shut. You couldn't hear the waves if you open the door it smelled. We ordered the lobster one piece was cooked. The rest was undercooked. We couldn't eat it. The broccoli Rob was too salty to eat. The service and the people there were friendly. I always wanted to stay here, but was so disappointed.

Yelp
Last weekend (veterans day weekend) my boyfriend and I decided to go out to Greenport for the weekend to get away. We decided to book a room here for 3 days. We checked in around 4:30 and by that time it was already getting pretty dark. When we got to our room, it was nicely lit with a dimmer next to the light switch as soon as you walk in. The bed was super comfy and cozy, the whole room itself was comfortable, warm, and clean. The bathroom was pretty small but since it was only the two of us, we didn't mind. The rooms were all renovated and they had a nice nautical theme to it since it's right on the beach of the Long Island Sound. The view of the beach waves were so beautiful waking up to it in the morning. I do have a few pros and cons down below about our stay here. Pros: comfy room, very clean, gorgeous beach view, nice outdoor seating area on the deck out back, complimentary breakfast in the morning with an array of cereals, pastries, bagels, coffee, tea, etc. Cons: Poorly lit around the grounds of the hotel, had to use a safety flag to cross the street to get to our car, Valet parking expensive, The fan in the bathroom was broken, the room wasn't cleaned after we got back from a long day. We had to ask for more toilet paper since when we first arrived, the toilet paper was almost used up. Would I stay here again? I probably will but I'd love to come back here in the late Spring/early summer!

Ellen C.

Yelp
I stayed at the Soundview this past weekend. Yes they do nickel and dime you for everything. The pillows were way too full they were more like prop up pillows not sleeping pillows. They need to call the Hyatt and find out where they get their pillows from. As for breakfast they really should make it a little fancier for the amount of money that we're spending at the hotel. The lighting in the rooms is very low. They didn't have a light near the bar area in the room which was horrible because it was so dark over there. They need to put brighter lights in the room.

Janmarie L.

Yelp
Soundview advertising is extremely misleading !! I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. Technically, it's not a beachfront because its filled with all rocks. but yes, there is water but with so many rocks, and no real sand it's extremely painful to walk on unless you're a kid. ALSO please note if you are disabled, definitely did not stay here because even to get into the room dozen 13 to 14 inch step up. I have pinch nerves and arthritis and I was in pain so I'm going in and out of the room. We were jolted awake several mornings by dogs, barking along the shore at and seven and eight in the morning. On two different days, They don't provide blankets, so bring your own. I wound up, spraining my wrist trying to open up the sliding doors which my husband who is 6 foot 250 had a hard time opening. You can't leave the sliding glass doors open because there are no screens and all the bugs get in so you'll lose that slight ocean sound there and you're stuck in a room with silence and no fresh air We stayed during the week, and the menu is limited, very limited and very high priced Also Very high priced for the rooms and the food. They claim they serve breakfast, but it's really just some small pastries a bagel and 1 flavor yogurt. And some other cheap continental type food, but no cereal even. Nothing for a diabetic I'm a diabetic and if I would've known that, I wouldn't have booked this motel. The room had a strange smell. The pool is only open for a short amount of time and it's not even heated so not many people are in it, except for young kids, who generally can take take the really cold water. Tried to get service but they don't answer the front desk and if you find maintenance walking around the properties they speak absolutely no English at all. And cannot provide any assistance at all. I've stayed at other resorts, half the price and get 10 times better service, View, and rooms. There's not much to do during the week because everything is closed. If you get a room with a balcony don't expect privacy there's only a vinyl or plastic covering. we could still see the people and hear everything they said. (and they charge extra for a room with private balcony (a plastic covering that they call private balcony) it doesn't even cover the full opening. Another thing that we did not like was that there's no fan in the room and you can't leave the doors open because of the bugs and no screen on any of the doors. so you're stuck with just air-conditioning. If that's your preference than fine, but it wasnt ours. I wish I would've done my research Or even read some of the reviews here because I would never stayed at this place. Oh, also they charge you for parking and a very high resort fee but they had no resort activities! except for karaoke, one night for the week that we stayed there. Which was not entertaining at all. All together, not including food . We spent just about $2000 for three nights, and it completely was NOT worth it. (not even for 1000 for a week) we paid almost $400 a night because it was a weekday. Plus all the resort charges, parking fees, taxes, etc.. My best advice is to find a different place. There are many other places that are cheaper and ions better with better service and more amenities.

Marcus C.

Yelp
For our party consisting of three adults and two children under 5 years old, we decided to go with the two bedroom suite here for two nights. For a grand total of nearly $4,000.00 for a Sunday night and Monday night at the end of June, I had high expectations. They were not fully met, but I like this place enough to give it three stars. The room itself was arranged precisely the way that it was described on the website - it had two full bathrooms, a full kitchen, a living room, a private balcony, and easy access to a private beach. The room itself had odd issues for a place so pricey - poorly installed outlets that resist three-pronged plugs alongside some other seemingly unfinished touches made me lose confidence in the entire space. The beds seemed very old and saggy. When we arrived to check in at precisely 4:00 p.m., we were told that the room was not yet ready, and made to wait in the lobby until it was. To my great surprise, housekeeping did not appear to clean the room fully when I arrived, and never came back in to replace any of the towels or clean the space when we exited (probably for the better due to the still raging Covid-19 pandemic). Still, I would rather have been advised beforehand that housekeeping maintenance is "on request only" during check-in. The property itself has no elevators, but at least I had parking right by our room. Access to the private beach area is beautiful, and sunsets from the private balcony are beautiful. The private beach has its own bar if you need it. The bar can also order food items from the adjacent restaurant, in case you don't wish to leave the beach. The service we received on the beach by staff was just great - the young man was ready, willing, and able to help my wife set up a beach umbrella, to our delight. The Continental Breakfast merely consisted of warm croissants and muffins. Everything else was cold food. At this price point, I expected an eggs station, crepe station, and full hot breakfast. Sunsets are beautiful here. I would seriously consider coming back.

Yelp
We booked our room and our friends did as well.. same price but our room was literally a closet with no view and tv and heat not working

Celie H.

Yelp
Unbelievably poor front desk customer service given the price you're paying. I called ahead to let them know I would check in late, between 11:30-12am. I pulled into the lobby at 11:40pm. No one at the desk. No number. No one else offered to help. After 15 mins on hold in their own lobby, I got through to someone by phone and they sent someone over. The breakfast is bad, don't let it win you over. Croissants from Costco and empty coffee pots. Breakfast is supposed to close at 10am, but when I asked for some milk for my coffee at 9:45am, they said they weren't refilling the milk since it was closing "soon." Two other patrons also asked for more milk. Wtf? Some other lowlights: - Pool had branches and leaves floating in it. - We called ahead to be sure the rooms had an iron or steamer in them (wedding). We were told they all had irons. They did not. We called the day of the wedding and requested an iron and ironing board. After waiting an hour, and still nothing, we went out and found one ourselves. The service is just SO bad! - Back door to our room (on the beach) didn't open, so we had to hike around the hotel to get back in. - It's a longggg walk to your room and there's no parking for most of them, but no one offered to help us with our bags. Just shocking for a $500/night room!! The one thing I will say is the beach location is truly beautiful. And there was one guy, in a dark blue t shirt, who rode around on a golf cart, who was genuinely proactive and helpful and seemed to be trying to make up for the hideous service elsewhere. But pretty much everything else about the service at this hotel needs to change. Such a bummer, given how expensive it is!

Sunita S.

Yelp
We stayed a few nights starting the Sunday of MLK and had a lovely time. The staff were very helpful upon check in. They gave us some mulled wine during check in which was nice. The parking is tricky because they only do valet. So you unpack at check-in then they drive you to your room on golf carts. Cute, but we had our dog with us. So they let us park at the far end and we walked our bags over to our room. The room was nice and the view beautiful. We had dinner the first night at the Halyard. But, unbeknownst to us, the Halyard was closed Mon and Tue. Which was a bummer, because we were staying those nights and were looking forward to having a cocktail at the Piano Bar. Oh well. We'll do a better job researching that. But, then there was breakfast, which is included in your stay. It's served 8 to 10. We arrived at 9 and there were no pastries, no bagels, no muffins and no yogurt. We asked and they brought out some pastries and yogurt. It's a pretty location. Not sure that we'd go again. Overall, average.

Yelp
I had a very good stay at this hotel over 4th July. The location and view is amazing. You have access to a full porch that overlooks the beach. The hotel is modern and was recently updated. It seemed very clean, with an exception of the AC that had a filter so dirty it wasn't working correctly (fixed when we asked). As someone else mentioned, no one ever picks up at the front desk. I think I tried to call about 6-7 times and only got through once. They have a pool and beach club, neither which I visited but looked very nice. The restaurant also looked gorgeous. It's not close to town, so you'll either need an Uber or car to get around.

Christine L.

Yelp
Advertised as a resort, no gym, small beach loaded with rocks, $29 a day whether you park your car in front of your room or valet. Restaurant on site $$$$. My room had double window w/only one blind! Price per night averaged to $500!

Anthony B.

Yelp
Surprised at some of the reviews. I think for the price people are expecting a luxurious plush resort. You are paying for an amazing location and the best view of the sunset on the east coast. We had a really nice time. A 5 minute drive or 15 minute bike ride from the ferry and downtown. Accessible to numerous wineries. And if you fell off your deck you would land on the beach! the hotel itself is not especially modern but it's nice. Staff is very attentive and Mishi one of the managers at the Halyard made our friday dinner!

Kristen D.

Yelp
If I could give a negative review I would. My husband and I did a day pass to this hotel. We get there and they gave our reservation away. We were told bc it was booked on third party. We had paid in full when I booked the reservation. The person at the desk didn't care at all. I was told i could speak to a manager at 4pm to get my money back. Mind you it was early in the morning. Awful service. Would never recommend or come back again. Ruined the whole day that was planned out. Babysitter, dog sitter e etc. Way to hold someone's money hostage. Good customer service would offer a lunch voucher or a free round of drinks. They didn't care at all.

J. Michael D.

Yelp
all you have is a view.. don't expect anything extra ..oh like tissues /hangers/housekeeping ... they nickle and dime you for everything ... at $485 nite you can do better .... Just drive by and wave

Aoife D.

Yelp
Great location and fab decor. Could be so so great but for the service: 1) we asked for housekeeping and they made the bed but nothing else, left us with trash, dirty glasses etc 2) they charged us an amenity fee but there were no amenities. The restaurant was closed and "fitness" involved paying to rent bikes 3) no one answered the front desk phone. We called 6 times over the course of 3 days and only got lucky twice and left a message that no one picked up. When we physically walked down to get help, the lady at the desk shrugged when we told her we had been ringing the front desk. 4) no one asked us how was our stay was when we checked out. Again, great location, could be great. They could do with a path on the beach to the bar. And of course service needs some work.

Robert C.

Yelp
Not good for the money TV did not work Pillows were not good Location good Charge for parking Not good

Vj T.

Yelp
First impressions: clean charming beautiful view. Initially I was disappointed when we arrived in our room and the view we paid for was obstructed by salt and bird poop on the windows. We also noticed that the smoke detector was missing. Breakfast was good and the lounge was a nice area to sit down and enjoy the view. The road noise was a huge factor in the quality of our sleep. When big trucks went by it would jolt us awake. Typically the road noise was so loud that it obscured the sound of the waves. Still worth it for the view and beach access, but the noise keeps it under 5 stars. Staff: great Bed: ok Temperature control: great Shower: great (and the towels too!)

Wang T.

Yelp
We wanted to love the place as the water view was amazing but the motel was an absolute miss and the worst part was that with some key changes it could have been great. 1. The food and drink situation is atrocious. There are dead zones of time when there is no place offering drinks. The pool bar opens at noon and the staff all squeeze into the air conditioned shack while the guests roast in long lines to even get a cup of water. The beach bar only opens at 5pm which makes even less sense. Finally the ONLY option for breakfast is a sparse continental which seems to be a criminal considering the beautiful Halyard restaurant setting. 2. The walls are paper thin, the doors are literally duct taped closed and frequently don't lock and at least 100 spiders live in the singles outside and are hanging over the doors at night. A little cobweb cleaning could fix that easily. 3. The umbrellas are all fixed to tables so there is no shade at the pool. The beach umbrellas have no wind catchers or screw on the bottom so they fly away. Also no one is around to help put the umbrellas in. Just extra service goes a long way and this place did not have it but could easily rectify that and people would enjoy the epic sunsets.

Maureen M.

Yelp
A lovely resort not too far from Brooklyn! Stayed here this past weekend. Even though the weather was drab, the view from the room, staff and food/drink at Halyard was excellent. The room was incredibly clean, i feel like it was just redone (YAY!) and at the end of the room block, so it felt more private and was quiet. Also, can't complain about sleeping to the sounds of waves. The only complaint I did have was that the TV didn't work all weekend and they charge a resort fee/tax even though there aren't currently any resort activities, so that probably needs to be explained more at check-in. Besides that, we're planning to book again.

Jackie M.

Yelp
Amazing views, kind and helpful staff, Great food, wonderful continental breakfast, comfortable beds! I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to relax and get away from it all. Oh and if you like a good cosmo make sure you order one at the bar!

Kevin M.

Yelp
This is a wonderful eatery the view and the staff amazing. The food over the top I had Fluke Curdo crazy good my wife ordered New England Clam chowder she said it the best she ever had! I tasted it as well well stocked with yes clams not just potatoes. I ordered the sword fish tacos simply said a true blue ribbon feast. Than their was Bill the manager incredibly attentive to everything happening there. We arrived at 12 noon hungry maybe four tables when we were leaving place was full love seeing that today and no masks. It was a bit foggy when we were there but just the same beautiful venue our waitress was fabulous! I wish all of you at the Sound View restaurant a successful season "make a lot of money" Kevin & Patty Ba'ville up island

Vanessa S.

Yelp
Just stayed at Sound View for my honeymoon and I was disappointed. I will say that the view is incredible and the food at the restaurant is delicious BUT the moment I walked into the hotel, I went to check out the bathroom and I fell because the floor was wet! I hurt my knee and scratched up my arm pretty bad! When they brought me an ice pack it wasn't even frozen. Now I have a huge bruise on my knee and a scar on my arm. Also in the span of two days we killed 6 spiders inside the room! We had to call them three different times before someone finally came to clean up the spiders. Outside on the balcony there were spiders everywhere! There was even one above me at the restaurant! It was just gross and I felt uneasy about it. We understand that with COVID-19 there are certain restrictions and they didn't have their usual cleaning service, but I had to call just to get toilet paper. I wasn't crazy about the cleanliness of the room in general, the floors weren't very clean, and there was a huge coffee stain on our sheet that didn't even look washed. All in all its a shame because I don't think we would go back. Beautiful view, nice private beach and pool but not so happy with the the stay.

Yelp
I wanted to be able to give a higher rating but I just can't. When you arrive the place is beautiful, modern, clean, staff is polite. We were told that there was a continental breakfast included (cold box store croissants, yogurt, hard boiled eggs and granola). Our room was beautiful, clean, comfortable with the gorgeous view of the water. That's where the beauty ended and the serine get away ended. The walls are so thin, you can hear the traffic, the water (which is nice but when it is high tide and rough it is very loud), you can also hear conversations in the next room. The gentleman behind us was snoring and we could hear it as if he was in our room (we were booked for 2 nights and left at 4:00am the 2nd morning because the noise was too much and we just couldn't get rest. The staff all though polite were not very attentive. Friends of ours sat at the piano bar for a good 15 minutes with several staff passing by, finally someone ask if they were looking to have a drink. They said yes and then were told this bar is closed you'll need to go to the other one. The next evening we went down to have drinks and dinner and were escorted through the bar and the restaurant to the hostess when we were asked what time our reservation was for and in what name. We told them we didn't have reservations and this was frowned upon (place had two other people in it). We then asked if we could sit by the fireplace and have a drink before dinner, this also was frowned upon but we were told sure. There are 2 chairs and a leather sofa. We opted to sit on the sofa and the chairs were dirty and stained. We placed our drink order and sat and had nice quiet conversation. Forty five minutes later after no one came to see if we would like anything else, I went to the bar, here the bar tender was making some drinks and refused to make eye contact with me. After about 10 minutes and still no eye contact (as he was still making the same 3 drinks for the 3 people at the bar) I left and went back to my seat. waiting another 10 minutes we finally caught the eye of the hostess and asked for our check. Note that they charge an amenities fee per day, ours was $53 for each of the 2 days. When asked what it was for we were told it was a "mandatory charge" that covers the continental breakfast, internet service, beach towels... Honestly ??? They also charge $100 to your credit card at checkin to cover incidentals. I called when I noticed my final charge was more than I expected and was told the incidental fee is again a "mandatory" and we agreed to it at check in (no we did not). Apparently this fee covers the mini bar, snacks in the room, bar and restaurant charges you may charge to your room. But I should not worry as this fee has been reversed and will hit my card in 5-7 business days. Last but not least, I told them we didn't know what the amenities charge covered. They told me when you book on line you can see what it includes (so I looked and this is true, there is a small ? near the charge). It reads; "Amenity Fee of $47+taxes per room, per night: Our resort amenities include an in-room welcome gift, in-room Nespresso coffee service, resort programming, fitness room and sauna access, complimentary Wi-Fi, Valet Parking, seasonal pool, and bike rentals. NOTE: We did not receive our welcome gift, nor did others in our party, fitness room is empty (I saw it when I walked by and saw a big empty room with 1 mat and 2 yoga bricks on the floor), never saw the sauna nor were we ever told about the fitness room or sauna. Notice the "complimentary Wi-Fi and the in room Nespresso machine" don't make coffee you will be charged for the coffee pod and the half/half packet in the fridge. For $874.68 for 2 nights, I expected so much more. I'm so disappointed as my husband and I haven't had a day off together in 2 years and this is how it was. I do not recommend this place, not worth the money.

Yelp
There's a lot to like about Sound View -- the stretch of private beach, the comfortable, chicly updated rooms (who knew wood paneling could be so beachy?), nice bath/body products, the easy access to vineyards and other area attractions... The restaurant was closed on both days we visited, but on the last morning we grabbed some coffee at the continental breakfast and absolutely loved the bright, airy lounge space. Such a well-appointed little area. I definitely struggled with this rating because our two night stay was more positive than not, but it's hard to justify the cost. Even on a Mon/Tues in technically the offseason, the visit was $500 (2 nights) for what was, at the end of the day, an updated motel on a rocky strip of beach where all of the windows and doors stuck, there was no soundproofing (you heard way more traffic than beach waves), and a resort fee (I think it covered a bottle of pelligrino and bag of oatmeal raisin cookies). Knowing that the rate skyrockets to $500/night in peak season is a bit questionable but hey, if the demand is there, I guess you have to take advantage of it.

Yelp
Great location, so so room. $450 per night. Our room smelled like smoke. It still had fresh spackle on the wall as someone must have opened the front door too hard and literally put a hole in it with the door knob. Our window next to the front door has a lovely shade made from a bed sheet secured with thumb tacks. The beach is all rocks. I would not recommend it nor would I come back. Not worth the money.

Yelp
I love how all rooms have beautiful view of the ocean. My husband didn't like the gnats, but they don't bite and lots of spiders outside (not in the room though) I wonder if they can get rid of these? The bed is clean in my eyes and I was comfortable enough minus the gnats. I like the floor because you actually know what you're walking on because it's not carpet. I wonder if the gnats were just in our room? The room will have that beachy feel to it, nautical feel. Sand on your feet feel, till you go to bed which can bother someone. There are complementary bikes, bfast and WiFi! The gnats got to me at night time though when they were congregating by the light. I just love the view and I bet they can do something with the bugs. A trap or something. The view though you cannot beat it's literally just absolutely gorgeous.

Yelp
Pleasant stay for Christmas eve. Very clean and nice staffs. Pet friendly (with extra charge). Steps from the beach, beautiful ocean view. Quiet & peaceful. But you will hear everything from next room, no soundproofing. Breakfast was not bad.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed there Christmas Eve and the following day. We stayed in room 110. It was clearly updated because everything looked new and clean. We were right on the water which was very nice. We knew the restaurant was going to be closed due to the pandemic and it being Christmas eve, but the small town only about a 10 minute backroad drive away had a lot to offer. It wasn't too cheap but it was the peace and quite we were looking for coming from the city. All in all the staff was very pleasant and our room was very relaxing. The ONLY thing I would probably change is the pull down shade should be totally opaque vinyl material. In the morning the sun BLAST into the rooms which is nice, unless you're a late sleeper like myself. Also, bring beverages (adult and non adult) because it's more cost effective and less hassle to get booze or bottle water somewhere else. I would go back if I'm in the need to get away and want some amazing wine. Definitely a place to stay if your going to the area for wine tasting. Or just want to get away from the constant craziness of NYC life.

Yelp
It's currently 5:30am and I've slept for about 30-minutes total. My fiancé and I came here for a quiet weekend getaway from the noise of NYC and neither of us have ever slept this poorly. To start: the noise from the road is horrendous. When we arrived we noticed the sound but thought it would die down at night - we were sadly mistaken. It feels as though the trucks are driving right through your bedroom. Secondly: the internal sound proofing is non-existent. Our neighbors were clearly having a good time and we might as well have split the cost and slept in the extra bed in their room since the paper thin wall between us did absolutely nothing. I could literally hear him snoring. Third: I understand there's nothing you can do about the weather but the rain hitting the pipes and the deck outside was enough to push me over. Seriously, metal dripping gutters outside of the paper thin walls... I'm curious - when was the last time management stayed in one of these rooms??? Besides the noise - ever hear of blackout curtains? It is 5:30am, pitch black outside, but yet I'm blinded by the light coming in from outside. See photo below. Seriously disappointed and will be checking out as soon as the front desk opens and will never come back to this place again. I highly recommend no one stay here unless you are looking for a sleepless night. Update: just called the front desk to ask that we are not charged a second night and after being told I purchased an all inclusive package so there's nothing she can do about it, the lady at reception told me I have to come speak to the manager around 9 or 10 in order to even consider a refund. Then she hung up the phone on me -MID CONVERSATION!!!! This place is an absolute disgrace.

Yelp
If you like rude staff, 2 star breakfasts, and a room which faces a main road this is for you. Very understaffed and the attention to detail does not match the high room rates and room charges. Room service is served with plastic cutlery.

Yelp
DO NOT RECOMMEND: No mention of SIGNIFICANT construction on-site prior to our arrival: bulldozers, cranes and bobcats literally feet from our front door, without proper safety precautions advising of overhead crane operations; i.e. not OSHA compliant. This is listed on the website NOW, but was not indicated when we booked nor was mentioned to us in any communication before we arrived to re-set our expectations. Had we known the circumstances of the construction, we never would have booked. Our room telephone does not work, lightbulb out in bathroom, no answer at front desk over 10 times calling from our cell and no bikes available when we are less than 5 days out from Memorial Day (bikes are currently "not in season and are being serviced"; we had to rent our own bikes for $100. Additionally, the grounds and plantings of the hotel are not "guest ready" - see photos. We were looking forward to our visit and want to support the hospitality industry post-COVID and we are left extremely disappointed and unhappy.

Yelp
The junior suite rooms are quite nice and spacious but have a major design flaw - there isn't a drawer or shelf anywhere to unpack clothes! The closet had space for built-in drawers but there wasn't even a luggage rack in there, just a single hanging rod. For the week of our stay our clothes were folded on the floor by our suitcases. The tiny bathroom had 1 small shelf under the pedestal sink and that was it for storage in there. It was super inconvenient for 3 ladies to have to unpack our toiletries every time we used the bathroom and re-pack as we left the room. The other issue is the continental breakfast had the exact same, limited items every single day! If you don't want an apple, a banana, a boiled egg, a croissant or a banana bread cupcake every day you are out of luck! The general service was unprofessional and the hotel seemed to be staffed by untrained college kids. Come on, Soundview, you can, and should, do better than this!

Yelp
I made a reservation on October 16th (yesterday). The reservation was for November 19th with a check out on the 21st. Something came up and I quickly realized I could not make the stay for the date I booked so I needed to cancel (which I did within 24 hours of me booking it). When I called and canceled I spoke with Ryan the manager. He told me I can cancel but I will be charged no matter what BC of a no refund policy I had for a locked in price. With that being said they are more then likely going to book it with someone else and still take my money. This is morally and ethically wrong. I am in the process of disputing the charges with my credit card company. Hope it works out. I'm not sure how these thieves sleep at night.

Yelp
You cannot beat the view. Our room was recently renovated, clean and comfortable. Sitting on the back deck was wonderful. The continental breakfast was lovely. Can improvements still be made? Of course. But we will be back next year as it's still a great place to stay.

Cathy P.

Yelp
I whole heartily agree with NY S. The fridge needs to be bigger, a micro is a must, the light outside the front door and window makes it seem like daylight all night, the lack of bathroom shelving, only one deck chair. The place it self has shaped up nicely. We've been coming every year for the last 5 years and this is the prettiest we've seen it. This will probably be our last time, because we've mentioned the improvement that are needed over the last couple of years and it has fallen on deaf ears. For the prices they charge, these little improvement should be done.

Yelp
The woman at the front desk is condescending and rude. She should take a lesson from the rest of the staff who were very kind and helpful. There was so many things not working in our suite that the service staff was there on and off our entire 3 day brief stay. The pool closes at 6 which was disappointing. The drinks at the pool - my vodka/tonic was $18 - were grossly overpriced. The continental breakfast was paltry. I would not recommend this place. I gave it a star for the view and another one for the staff excluding the front desk person.

Yelp
My husband and I went during the winter and loved every second of it. The hotel staff were extremely attentive, the room was straight out of a dream and the view was worth every penny. We were very lucky at the vineyards all day and then having perfect weather for a light blanket on the balcony. With the sliding doors cracked we could hear the ocean all night and felt very safe. We did not seem to have traffic noise but again it was the winter. The restaurant was superb! The seafood is fresh, the presentation simple and beautiful, the local food is always what I am looking for. I think my scallops were the best I have ever had!!! My husband does not eat seafood but he wanted to try them and ended up eating half my plate. We can not wait to come back! -Breakfast the next day was very light. I was expecting a slightly larger selection.

Yelp
Was able to grab a weekend away with my girlfriend before our kids had the following week off from school. First time choosing Sound View, always drove by, but never stayed there. Starting off, I was greeted by an extremely friendly staff at the front desk. Very helpful in regards to our stay and, also, activities that was happening in the area over the weekend. We were given a newly renovated corner suite. Positives were evident - wood décor gave it a very beachy feeling. TV was large and clear. Bathroom neat and very clean. Bed large and comfy. We got the suite because we like to play games, so sitting on the couch with the table afforded us a comfier way of doing that (instead of on the bed). The TV was large and clear and turned so we can see it from where the couch is. It is winter so we didn't spend too much time on the deck, but the view was awesome even at night. The sunset views are amazing. Again, there are plenty of positives but we have to talk about the negatives. Starting with the kitchen area. No microwave, which is hard to believe since every hotel/motel room on the planet has them. I call it a kitchen area because there was a sink and a small fridge (freezer part didn't work too well - just ask the melted toasted almond éclair we were going to have for dessert) and a small table and chairs. The area had enough room for more counter/shelf space as well as a stove. For the off-season price we felt a small kitchenette would have been useful (for a two night stay). Could not stay any longer without those features. The local fair of wine, cookies, chips was a nice touch, shame there were added costs for each. Freebies would have been nice (maybe one bottle of wine free or one bag of chips but not everything costing something) especially for the price paid. There were no dressers of any kind so we had to live out our suitcases. We were constantly moving the bags from the floor to the bed or just knelt on the floor. Not very convenient. There were two suitcase racks in the walk in closet but we still would be living out of them. Could not imagine staying a week. The bathroom, as stated above, was very clean and very nicely renovated in all white tile and chrome fixtures. But the lack of counter space was an issue. There was only the edges of the sink to place items. There were no shelving inside the shower either to place anything (soap, shampoos, etc.). The bed was very comfy. The pillows also on the comfy side. The sounds of the ocean - awesome. The car sounds over the concrete roadway (tires hitting the expansion joints) overwhelmed the ocean. Too bad. We, also, found out that the room got way too bright once the sun was up (we checked in at night). So we had to place blankets/towels over the window (& the door window) to have darkness last longer in the morning. I would recommend the Sound View if you're coming out for a night or two but not any longer. And if looking for a nice little home-away from home then I would look elsewhere. Keep working on the rooms then we will be back.

Yelp
Heat did not work and the bathroom was locked from the outside so I had no place to relieve myself. I had to downgrade my room because my higher level room was not available for hours even though I was checking in during normal check in hours. I told the front desk that I had to be in my room at this point but they gave me a lesser room with no heat and a bathroom fully locked that I could not use even though I immediately alerted the front desk. Don't even bother trying to call the desk cause they won't answer and you have to confront them in person. They had no solution for me so I had to relieve myself outside on the deck because I had no other option in my room and I had to sleep with four layers on because there was no heat even though I thought I was staying the night at a high end hotel for a wedding weekend but I've never had more of a nightmare situation. I was eventually moved two hours later to a even lower grade room with heat only turned on minutes ago. I frequent this area as a guest and will never recommend staying here after this horrible stay. Definitely not worth all the money I originally spent on the room.

Yelp
Just spent 3 nights with my husband & son. I loved this place! Coming from nyc we needed a relaxing off season break and this place delivered. We stayed in a junior suite which was spacious and very well laid out - with small dining table & bar fridge. The renovation throughout rooms, lobby, restaurant is gorgeous (hats off to whoever designed it) and overall, along with the water views, it has a very relaxing effect. I only noticed the noise of the highway in the morning which for some I imagine would be a deal breaker. The decoration & top top food at the Halyard restaurant made our stay very special. Thank you!!!

Savannah L.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sound View! The rooms are functionally designed and the bed is very comfortable. I loved being able to go onto the boardwalk and beach in the morning and eat breakfast in their lounge area. Sherri was the best and helped me navigate the quaint town when I rented one of their bikes. We tried the salt spa and was impressed by the view during the service. I would come back again!

Yelp
I love the Soundview Greenport. We were greeted by lovely ladies who remembered us from the year before. The rooms have been updated. The view of the sound is breathtaking. We really enjoyed our stay. Also, they are dog friendly so our pups enjoyed also

Victoria W.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Loved the gorgeous view of the sunset. The room was exactly as pictured. A little disappointed pointed with the included brunch. I wish I could've attended one of the included morning yoga classes! I would recommend!

J L.

Yelp
It's not all about the view but it could be! I had breakfast and dinner at this fine dining restaurant. Both were very thoughtfully made. I definitely will return for another taste. And now they have a salt room... yoga...and meditation! Love the vibe!

Yelp
We've been coming here since 1975. Love the upgrades and floor plan of the deluxe king room. Bed faces the water so you can sit up in bed and watch the waves. Rooms 124 and below have lower windows so they are best for viewing water from bed. The price is a bit steep but there is no other place that offers this view and easy access to the water. We actually enjoy the rhythm of the road noise. There is a rhythmic clacking from the tires on the joints in the concrete road. We sleep with the windows open to hear the sound of the waves. They crash up under the motel deck. So relaxing! We love it here and have come every September for the last 20 years. Looking forward to many more visits.
