Soup Kitchen Cafe Review - Kensington - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"We want to tell everybody we know about Soup Kitchen Cafe because this place has excellent and well-priced breakfast and lunch food - our favorites being the $8 shakshuka and a soup and half sandwich for $13. Plus, they have a full bar that’s stocked with local beers, and they make a couple of great house cocktails like the elderflower aperol spritz and a jalapeno margarita. It’s small and comfortable inside, and since it’s not a super popular spot for dinner, it’s easy to get in when you don’t want to wait 40 minutes for a table." - Sydney McElwee

"This is one of our favorite spots in Fishtown for a modern twist on classic comfort food. Come here with your laptop for a working-lunch, or just head over for a proper meal. Just know that you can’t leave without trying the tomato basil soup, which is so good, they should offer up by the trough!" - The Heads of State

Wow this place used to be so great! I now though can't imagine why I even gave them 5 stars! Just experienced horrid service here, I entered with a friend and we waited to be seated. Absolutely no staff member even acknowledged our presence or took ONE second to smile or greet us. Tall brunette especially went out of her way to ignore us, knowing we were waiting for a table (there were tables available) We were waiting for at least 15 minutes with absolutely no acknowledgement before we decided to leave. All staff members saw us. Horrible horrible horrible. How can you not even acknowledge or say hi to someone who is there to give you service? ****** I've been meaning to come here for quite some time and I am so delighted that I finally went! Such an enchanting little spot. Great service and delicious soup & sandwiches! They have vegan and gluten free food and it is healthy as well as prepared beautifully. The service is hospitable and the environment is cozy + adorable.

Great, reliable neighborhood restaurant when you just want some delicious soup and a crusty meatloaf sandwich to save your day. The eggs on the build-your-own-breakfast sandwich are cooked perfectly - silky, soft omelet in bouncy layers. The tomato bisque is the best soup here. You do smell like the food when you leave the restaurant and they don’t ever have chocolate chip cookies that are on the menu but it doesn’t stop me from returning time and time again. Thanks!

I love this place. I always end up here whenever I'm at work and need a quick place to stop for lunch. Love the tomato soup and the BBLT (No this is not a typo lol).

The prices are normal but the creations are masterful. The menu is small enough that one day I come and just order all of it. I was looking for a cup of coffee and a restroom to kill ten minutes before a meeting. I found much more. They have tables out on the sidewalk that are shaded. The food was truly inspired. Their interpretation of a bagel and lox would make my grandfather proud. All around good food good service and attention to detail. I have to make this a regular stop whenever I'm in this neighborhood.
