A Brilliant Evening at Source at the Gilpin
We’ve been lucky enough to visit a number of Michelin-starred restaurants over the years, and Source at the Gilpin really stood out. From the food to the service to the atmosphere—it was a joy from start to finish.
We were looked after so well by Elle, who was warm, friendly and really thoughtful throughout the evening. And Francisco, the sommelier, was excellent—full of knowledge and passion as he talked us through each wine pairing. Every glass felt carefully chosen, and each one brought something new to the food.
To start, I had the Cornish Lobster. It was rich, perfectly cooked, and beautifully balanced with the peanut bisque and roe sabayon. Then came the Cornish John Dory, served with golden caviar. This was a highlight—delicate and luxurious, and plated with real care. It was great to meet the section chef who made it. You could tell how much pride went into the dish.
For dessert, I chose the Gariguette Strawberry with Pink Peppercorn. Light, fresh, and just the right touch of sweetness to end the meal. The petit fours were also a treat—playful and full of flavour.
We were invited into the kitchen afterwards, which was a lovely touch. Meeting the chefs and seeing where the magic happens made the evening even more special. Everyone was kind and clearly passionate about what they do.
The only thing we noticed was that the pacing of the courses felt a bit quick at first. But as soon as we mentioned it, the team adjusted and slowed things down, which we really appreciated. It didn’t take away from the evening at all—in fact, it showed how attentive and flexible they were.
All in all, a wonderful experience. Delicious food, thoughtful service, and a really memorable night. We’d happily return.
