These Restaurants and Bars Are Worth the Drive to Columbia | Eater Nashville

"Laovin It food truck recently opened its first restaurant on the south side of Columbia offering a menu that reflects the diverse culinary landscape of Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. You’ll find regional dishes kike Lao-style pork ribs served with sticky rice and beef bone broth, and king noodle soup (khao-poon) with vermicelli rice noodles in a coconut curry broth. The “spicy” option isn’t a misnomer here — so proceed with caution." - Chanel Rene

Google
Everything was mind-blowing. The Summer Rolls were perfect, so were the drunken noodles and the Pho literally healed my soul. So fresh and impressively fast service. Thank you to everyone here!

Google
I thought they opened at 2 PM, but turns out they actually closed at 2! Even so, they still let me place an order and didn’t rush me out. The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely be back!

We were in Columbia today and a friend recommended this spot! So thankful they did! The atmosphere is a vibe. Well decorated and thought out. The food was probably the most authentic and delicious Lao food I’ve had since moving to the Nashville area! We had a wonderful experience. I highly recommend! We will be back, for sure.

Very relaxing, reasonably priced, delicious pho. Also their chicken is great and our kiddo loved it. The staff was kind and professional. Would go here any day.

Google
I have had a lot of pho ( its one of my all time favorite dishes), this is probably some of the best pho I have ever had in my life. It was so fresh and delicious. The broth itself felt like it had been cooking for days absorbing all the flavors of the meat and herbs. The meat was tender and flavorfull. So good, would def come back again 4.6/5

Google
LEGIT. So good. Broth was awesome. They do thai and Vietnamese really well

Google
Family owned restaurants are always nice but this family was very deliberate in decor and vibes. Very laid-back atmosphere ideal for quiet talks and hanging out. The food is awesome fits the decor. The pho is subtle and delicately flavored from scratch. It’s a fun place to get good fresh food and relax a little from the grind.

I’ve been a regular customer for over a year, and have never had anything but an excellent experience, with the best food and customer service I could ask for. This place is my favorite restaurant in town, hands down. All of the items on the menu that I’ve tried have been 10/10. Everything always comes out fresh & quick, especially considering how busy they usually are. Sadly a recent change in my work schedule means I’m not there every Saturday anymore. I still slide by any chance I get!

Yelp
South-ahan is the best hands down! I have been a big fan of their food truck over the last several years. I am so glad they have this location. The food, service, and atmosphere is beyond 5 stars. I highly recommend the Chicken Basil Fried Rice!

Yelp
I have waited over a year to write a review for South-Ahan. Food was phenomenal when they did a soft opening in 2023. The taste, the vibes, and the Jeow Bong they put aside with wings and sticky rice was the only menu that made me come back every week in 2023. It reminded of home and it tasted authentic to me. Then, they were out of Jeow Bong at some point. I went and asked every week over couple months. They said they were busy and shorted staff. They didn't have time to make more. I stopped going there. My husband still ordered carry out here and there for himself in this past year. I went back to dine in couple days ago. They changed the menu and Jeow Bong is no longer a part of wings menu, same as sticky rice. It is a completely different menu called "Sticky wings" served with white rice. Does it taste good? Yes! But it is very Americanized Asian food. I totally understand that the restaurant has to survive and adapt to the area. They can't stay authentic or the community would be like "What kind of food is that? It doesn't taste like other American-Asian restaurants that I have had before." I am sad but completely understand. South-Ahan is still the best asian restaurant in Columbia though. The tables are clean and the service is still great. I am happy that people in Columbia love South-Ahan. They were very busy when I was in the restaurant. Ps. The bright side, they have Jeow Bong in a jar for sale now! Whoop whoop! It tastes exactly the same as last year and it is still the best Jeow Bong version that I like the most. If you can't eat spicy food, please don't even try it. Your mouth will feel like it is on fire and it burns for minutes! That burn is lingering. I have warned you!

Yelp
Great food, clean, modern and well run. We moved here from the Bay Area, and missed the Thai food. We were happy to find this restaurant and very impressed with the staff and restaurant.

Kenny J.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Columbia. We're transplants from the Bay Area, CA and this Thai food is equal to what we got there. It's clean inside, the service is fast/friendly and the food is excellent. I highly recommend trying this spot. If you like Thai food, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Today, I had the pleasure of experiencing South Ahan, an Asian Fusion gem in Columbia. The culinary journey began with divine flavors that transported me into an exhilarating Asian fusion adventure. The diverse menu offered an array of amazing options. The atmosphere was calming and chill, while the restaurant itself was impeccably clean. I'm thrilled to have discovered this place and look forward to returning. It's a delight to have an affordable and speedy Asian Fusion option in town, especially after the closure of Vahn Dys. Our food arrived piping hot within 10 minutes of ordering, showcasing their efficiency. While they don't offer phone or online ordering, the quick service makes it convenient to order and enjoy the experience, whether dining in or taking out at the counter.

Yelp
They are open from 11-2 each day and they open fir dinner on Friday and Saturday nights until 8:30. They do take a break between lunch and dinner service. The food is excellent. Come try it! You order at the register and they bring you your order. The decor is very sleek and elegant.

Yelp
Great food Nice environment I recommend the Next Level Ramen and the Fried Crab Puffs

Brian S.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Service was fast. Getting the food was fast. The only thing I could say negative is the price is a little high. It was $45 for two. Otherwise I loved this restaurant.

Natalia M.

Yelp
Dear Restaurant, Thank you so much for your amazing food!!! Carry is the best! Highly recommend to try

Bethany K.

Yelp
Hidden gem - great food, ambiance, decor is so cute. Quiet and comfortable place to get some yummy Pad Thai or Pho!

Yelp
All right, let me tell you something about this place, it is yummy!!! Go there whenever they are open. Go there whenever you can and try every single dish. That is what my plan is going to be. I ordered the drunken noodles and it was delightful! They graciously seeded the jalapeños, so my mouth wasn't on fire, but that's a personal preference. The food was hot and fresh. This dish satisfied my craving for thick rice noodles...which I can't find anywhere in Columbia! Hubby ordered the special, the king soup which also contained a spaghetti size rice noodle in a spicy coconut broth with fresh beans sprouts and herbs galore. Plan your visit and pack this place! Now!

Richard K.

Yelp
Food. Is. Excellent. Service is good, the chicken curry and pasta Thai are wonderful, my wife loves the chicken fried rice. It's our new favorite restaurant

Yelp
Best Pho/Thai you can get in Columbia. Decent Pho broth with lots of 5 spice flavor. The Thai Coconut Curry Soup was zippy with chili oil. They are expanding the menu with Bahn Mi soon as well. Nice interior for lunch/dinner meetings.

Mark H.

Yelp
Top-notch tasty food with yummy Thai options and Vietnamese food. Nice ambience, overall definitely recommend checking it out!

Yelp
The food is amazing!!!! Customer service is awesome!!! I have tried the rice, egg rolls, and ramen and it's all be excellent!!! I highly recommend!!!!

Yelp
I heard that this restaurant had decent pho. I have been looking for a place outside of Nashville that served a decent bowl. I have yet to find the place until now. the reviews were right. This place has great pho. Big bowl, plenty of beef and noodles, and the broth was rich and homemade. Looking forward to eating here often.

Tim T.

Yelp
Well now that I've gone, I enjoyed the restaurant very much. The interior was more than expected. Very nice. The food was very good with a lot of flavor. I have one suggestion for you. If you don't like spicy food, you might want to ask them to cut back on the spices. and it wasn't over top by any means only saying this, because I have friends that do not like spicy foods, so if you don't like spicey I would ask them if they can to cut back. other than that great new restaurant glad to see it was busy. There is one thing that I will tell you it is a little pricey for lunch. The prices are more about dinner prices. You won't be disappointed because the food is really good. So plan on 15 to 25 per person and i know some of you won't think so but. Not everyone has unlimited money

Roy K.

Yelp
We ordered the Drunken Noodles and a chicken pho. The noodles were very good and tasty but the pho was served luke warm. Otherwise, the pho would have been very good too but i like my soup to be aerves hot so, it was just ok. The taste was good but be careful if you have a hard time with too much spice. My wife has a hard time with very spicy food and couldn't drink the soup without a followup of water. The egg rolls were very good as well. The prices are a little higher than what we are used to but with inflation it is to be expected.

Jojo M.

Yelp
Food is amazing. The best you can find around the area. But the service was less than okay the two times I've been in. Waited for long periods of time for water and to be able to put our order in.

Erin M.

Yelp
The Fire Hot Chicken Curry was PERFECT, not too spicy that I couldn't eat it, not bland!!!! I walked in at 11:30 and had food by 11:35! The atmosphere was great, the staff was so friendly, the summer roll was made with with fresh veggies and fresh shrimp!! My only complaint is that I want dinner hours!!! :)
