Yes, this project, like all city projects has been going on for far too long. I imagine the usual suspects are at fault, however, they are finally finished and have built a tiny parking lot with tiny trees for SHADE in the summer and yet another uggggly toilet/changing room. It is an abortion and an eyesore.
Why don't these idiots take a page out of Andres Duany's project at Seaside which is now world famous. There is no good reason to build the monstrous kind of building they have allowed the developers to place here. It will be years before the growth covers it up.
I found the designers; they list their services as: ARCHITECTURE-ENGINEERING-PLANNING-INTERIOR DESIGN. The company is Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc. (I wonder if somebody's cousin in the Hallandale Beach bureaucracy is one of the partners or friends or cousins or wives, hummmm). Anyway they are located in Miami not Hallandale. Why could a reasonably gifted gardener/designer have done a better job at a fraction of what this mess cost? A very simple little shack, similar to what the State of Florida has at Bill Baggs State Park on Key Biscayne, with four outdoor shower heads and a men's room and a ladies room be sufficient. And why not something in wood that might bring to mind the original barrier reef designs of the 20's.
They needn't have gone way to Seaside, on the Panhandle, for inspiration; they might have looked in their own backyard and seen the marvelous job the State of Florida did with Bill Bagg's Park on Key Biscayne.
Woe is me I have to look at this awful pee house every day on my way to work.
I would have done something in true Florida architecture. Anything would be better than this mess that is supposed to evoke a wave. Ha, not in my mind. How about local design, stick built (looking with materials that termites cannot eat), copper roof (cheap), clapboards. I think most of you'all know what I mean.
The City might have planted more Florida things that love the salt, instead they placed the wrong shrubs, and CEMENT walkways (imitation brick is cheap and wouldn't make my eye cancer get up in arms.Ho hummm, I'm fighting a loosing battle and wasting my time on this review unless others see it and complain to Hallandale Beach to get on the ecological bandwagon and do it right.
