Came here recently for the Little Shop of Horrors show. I’ve never seen the play but it was absolutely brilliant. There’re really no bad seat in the house; all seats are relatively close. We did imbibe and got a beer and one of the novelty mixed drinks specifically for the show. There were cute small Audrey plants for sale. It was just all so great. Actors wore mics so it was easy to hear them from anywhere. It was great.

SCAM ALERT! Segerstrom Center for the Arts are you cheating your customers? I had purchased 2 show tickets after carefully choosing the date, time and seats (based on the proximity to the stage, isle & price). Upon receiving the confirmation I noticed that the DATE & TIME that I had picked (Sunday, 2pm) were different (Tuesday, 7pm). I immediately called customer service to find out how I ended up with such different tickets? The lady who answered the phone acknowledged that their online system had lots of issues (not very user friendly either). I proceeded to explain my predicament and asked her to reinstate the date & time that I had initially chosen. After a brief chat with her manager, I was told that I would have to pay extra (double the price) if I wanted a "different" date. What a slap in the face! Their online ticket system gave me the wrong date & time and now I had to pay more. I was appalled by how the manager handled the situation. Not a real problem solver if you care about your customers. I felt cheated by Sergestrom. Could have been the employees who were running the scam. Either way, Sergerstrom is responsible for this debacle. SHAME! You made me and my friend miss a show that we were very excited to see. Scammers! ★Looks like we'll be going to Laguna Playhouse and La Mirada Theater.

Your concession stand has getto Cougar Mountain cookies and not much else. Step it up. It’s a theater in Inglewood!!!

They are trying some real cutting edge things this season. Time will tell how successful these new endeavors will be.

I absolutely LOVED it. I saw A Christmas Carol and of course it was REMARKABLE, well done, well casted, technically and artistically beautiful......perfect to script with funny punchy additions. Now listen... I intend to perform there in the near future. I absolutely LOVED the room. I look forward to watching many productions and meeting YOU there. Thank you for the glorious time.

Google
An excellent concert hall for any kind of performance you want to see. Gives you a very wide-open feeling, and the seats are comfortable as well. For a guy that is six-foot-five, there is also plenty of legroom no matter where you are in the theater. No matter what show comes through town, I would always recommend using this venue

Excellent theater. Very well selected and produced plays.

What a marvelous experience I had booking my tickets for LA Havana Madrid. Collette was soooo patient and kind when helping me select the best seats!! Can't wait for the show!!

Yelp
South Coast Rep's Argyros stage is a small, cozy theater. All of the seats are comfortable and all offer good views of the performers--the photo below was taken from the last back row. I have seen some excellent performances here, most recently "The Staircase" on May 9th.

Yelp
We just discovered South Coast Repertory, and we are now patrons forever! What a great theatre! We found it through an Instagram advertisement for "Little Shop of Horrors," which is one of my favourites, so we made a trek all the way to Costa Mesa from our humble abode in Lawndale on a Friday night. It was well worth it! The theatre is a medium-small size, and there really is not a bad seat in the house! Our seats from row J were fantastic, but I'm sure even sitting in the last row would give you an excellent view of the stage and actors! The seats themselves are standard. We loved this venue for its intimacy, decent prices, and lovely audience members. It was certainly a fun night going downtown, home to Skid Row! This company does something I have not experienced before, which is "Pay Your Age." Unfortunately, I'm too old for this discount, but my wife is still in her late 30s and makes the cut! This pricing worked well, as we saw a number of younger patrons in the audience, laughing, clapping, and dancing along! As an educator, you can also get a small discount on your ticket. There are a number of parking options around this area, as this theatre shares space with Segerstrom and is by a number of businesses and South Coast Plaza. We already have plans to return next season for a few shows. South Coast Repertory has become one of our favourite theatres!

Yelp
We went to see Little Shop of Horrors and I was shocked at the quality of the show. The production was seamless and beautiful. The acting, sound, props and stage were amazing. I almost cried! Easy to find parking on the adjacent structures. You can buy wine, beer and other beverages. They'll put them in small cups with lids and you can bring them into the show. The seats are actually comfortable.

Yelp
My mom and I got to see a show here recently (Little Shop of Horrors). It seems like there are multiple stages here? Our show was great! We really enjoyed it. We were in the front row and therefore had a wonderful view! I was also able to purchase tickets with a teacher discount, which I thought was really cool. Nice facilities and nice staff! They do not have a parking lot here, but there is a parking structure right next door.

Yelp
Very nice little theatre. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. Much smaller venue than the Segrestrom. We saw Little Shop of Horrors. Fantastic performance! Top of the line professional actors and singers, choreography. We spent our 15 minute intermission strolling around the beautiful grounds outside. Just a short walk over the bridge to the South Coast Plaza with lots of dining options. I can't wait to go back and see A Christmas Carol. I have been to the Segrestrom many times, but this is my first time at the S C Repertory. Definitely coming back for more performances.

Yelp
Although I had no idea what this play was about, or where South Coast Repertory was, I decided to put my name down for a pair of tickets during a silent auction, was the only person who bid on them so I won! and Wow, what a great decision to put my name down! This venue and production of Coleman '72 really set the bar high! Coleman '72 is about a Korean American family on a road trip across the US. It struck many chords with me being Asian American and understanding the delicate and complicated relationship between immigrant/refugee parents' heartache of sacrifice and struggle and their US born children's take on happiness and success. Their were also themes of guilt, forgiveness, and how nostalgia plays on our perception of truth and memory. I quote from the playwright, Charlie Oh, "nostalgia is dangerous." The actors' powerful performance left me in tears several times, partly in a cathartic manner as it conjured up my own memories and feelings of my father. Perhaps I was not the only one as I also heard other people blowing their noses in the bathroom just as I did. The venue was medium sized yet intimate. I like the small touches such as fun facts about Coleman products that were placed in the bathroom stalls. This place is a quick walk via the pedestrian bridge from South Coast Plaza. Highly recommend this play for high quality theater production and acting!

Yelp
Beautiful theatre that honestly doesn't have any bad seats. The parking is a bit of a walk from the theater. I believe it was $15 to park. I went to go see, "A Raisin In The Sun" and had a blast. Great lighting and sounds. I would come back here again for another play.

Yelp
Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen ventured forth into the realm of the theatre. What a lovely venue! The small theater was perfect for being close to the players. The acoustics are perfect! This is a gem of a theater. Tickets are not too dear. Given the variety of shows playing, and the decent prices, this is a place that can be enjoyed often. The end.

Yelp
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! This review has no reflection on the theater or actors but the box office customer service team. It deeply saddens me to write this but I am so disappointed with SCR as we go to shows monthly and have donated to the organization. This morning I got an email saying our show for A Christmas Carol got cancelled due to sickness and to call for a refund or exchange. I called and waited 47 minutes which I understood but when I got to a rep she said even though I spent $82 per ticket for 8 people = $656 only cheaper side seats, broken up were available for $68. I said no problem please just refund me the difference. She said it is not policy to refund even though the only tickets available were less expensive. I then asked can I get a full refund and buy the tickets myself online for the cheaper price and she said no they wouldn't be available even though I had them up on my computer screen. After a very long argument and being transferred to management they also said they couldn't do anything. I called back and talked to a different manager and he admitted she was wrong and I could get a full refund and purchase them myself online but at this point the exchange was finalized and there was nothing to be done and he hung up on me. In the end our night we chose show was cancelled, we went from front center seats to side middle seats and paid the same price and lost a refund of $112.

Yelp
My first time here to support my friend who were in a reading. The place was quite nice, parking structure was nearby, $12 for parking, or you can park on the street, closest place would be across the street then walk. Besides my friend's play. They also offering tours of the building, and they were having a playwrights festival for people who love theater arts and acting, definitely check it out, a lot of programs here

Yelp
What a great venue. Clean and elegant. This is a wonderful place to see a play. The ambiance is fantastic. The theater is fantastic.

Yelp
I introduced my wife to this before we were married as a date night. She was so excited about it that she said wanted to bring her patents the next year and I should bring mine. That was almost 20 years ago. Attending every year since even though we have lost family members. It's our tradition and I cannot think of a better way to celebrate with family and friends than by watching this marvelous production. It foes not matter how many times you have seen the movie, this is live theater at its best.

Yelp
Nina Simone: Four Women- DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! I would have given 0 stars had the review allowed it. This was one of the worst plays I've ever seen and surprised it was part of the South Coast Repertory lineup. If you love Nina Simone's music, as I do, you'll be very disappointed that not one of her songs that we all know were included in the splay. Besides being a very angry play, it was also repetitive and boring. 80% of the people sitting around us were asleep after the first 15 minutes. It was a hard way to spend an hour and 40 minutes of my time.

Yelp
I took my daughters to see Coleman '72 in early May and we were all so touched y this performance. I have been a fan of this theater for so long, it's become a family tradition to go see their shows. Chay Yew is one of my favorite local directors and I don't miss any of their material. I thought the comedy was great and very well performed. The use of props is my favorite among these actors. The costumes were on point, acting was very free flowing, I had zero regrets and I'm looking forward to their November series this year. I'll definitely be updating you all on the show Snow White! Great job, please keep up the amazing work! From my family to yours - thank you!

Yelp
Visiting South Coast Repertory to see Culture Clash in America. Fabulous 90 minute play by Ric Salinas, Richard Montoya & Herbert Siguenza on stage until January 30th. Great intimate theater, kind and helpful ushers, reasonable snack prices, and incredible box office staff.

Yelp
I came to the South Coast Repertory to see Fireflies. It was an excellent performance. We purchased our tickets through Goldstar.com. The parking was adjacent to the venue and was easy to find. The parking was $12. However some people told us that they parked at South Coast Mall for free and just walked across the street. I'll do that next time because $12 is a little steep. The seats for the venue weren't that comfortable and they are really close to each other. However, there wasn't a bad seat in the house. The acoustics were great as welL The location is great for dinner and a play because there are plenty of restaurants in the area to choose from. All in all a great date night.

Yelp
Amazing theatre! Really beautiful! The seats are comfortable, good view any seat you have. There is a bar and sweet spot inside to enjoy your time. The gallery of writers is so cool! I went to see A Christmas Carol, for 40 years they do this magnificent show. Don't miss this for the next Christmas. The Broadway level!

Yelp
Fun place to watch a show or take classes! From acting, to musical theater, and improv, all can help you become a better performer. The teachers will work with you on becoming the best version of yourself and help you get out of your shell! I saw Appropriate and Avaaz and I was amazed at the quality of the set and the performances of the ensemble/performers. I look forward to seeing more of their plays and taking more classes into the future!

Yelp
Excellent little venue, attached to the larger Arts Centre, in which every seat is a good one. Usher/docents at every door (including restroom hallway) to help and guide, are great. They could use better management at the ticket counter. With three persons--one for new tix, one for will call, and one for problems, it sounds like a good idea--until the Will Call line is 30 persons deep and no one is at either of the other lines, but they redirect you to the long line with a smile--and without help, while twiddling their thumbs for 10 minutes.

Mike W.

Yelp
A Christmas Story is something you must see. The play is expertly done, seating is great, intermission serves drinks, parking is just $15 right next to the venue.

Yelp
SCR is always a wonderful time for my family and me! We have been attending performances for over 25 years. There really is not a bad seat in the house! The actors do such a great job in their characters! The costume and set designers need to come out and take a bow too! You are all amazing! The seats are not roomy and if the seats were ever to be redone, I would suggest roomier seats. You WILL be touching shoulders with your neighbor. There is a small mini bar and a snack stand. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained.

Yelp
We attended the outdoor event at the Mission at San Juan Capistrano. The event was well organized and very efficient. The staff was so friendly! We bought tickets the same day and ended up in section C. Blankets or low chairs only . We're in from out of town staying across the street. We took a blanket from the hotel but ended up sitting on the park bench. I had a great conversation with one of the staff at the water booth. Great to see such enthusiasm for the theater! American Mariachi dragged on way too long but we were so enthralled by the venue and the fantastic night that it really didn't matter. I hope this is a long lasting venue relationship. Great people and repertory group!

Yelp
I went to see A Christmas Carol with my family. It was an amazing production. It is a small theater so there are no bad seats. We had a great time.I don't recommend bringing small children but older children would love it.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a small intimate theater where really there's no bad seat. We sat in the 4th row to the right of the middle and could see perfectly. They offer a wide variety of shows including family shows. They don't allow food in the theater but they do have a concession stand with a nice variety of items like cookies, candy etc. Event parking is $12 cash (or credit card if there's an attendant like there was today) next to the venue.

Yelp
The South Coast Repertory Theater is a fantastic theater sitting adjacent to the Segerstrom Concert Hall off Town Center. The Theater itself houses several different stages each with their own configurations and layouts. The staff is professional and very helpful at ensuring you have the best experience possible and the facility is super nice with all the accommodations you could ask for. Picking up my tickets at the Box Office was a breeze (always something that worries me) and they immediately pointed me in the right direction for the correct theater housing the show. They have a pretty large outdoor courtyard with benches for you to hang out prior to showtime as well and makes for some great photos as well. The venue I was in was the Nicholas Studios (the smallest of the bunch) for a show with a unique take on the peanuts characters we all know and love. The show I attended was "Absolutely Filthy" which is centered around Pigpen who has since grown into a homeless man living on the street. Pigpen throughout the show runs into other characters from Charles Schultz's peanuts gang who he later finds out are attending the funeral services of his former friend Charlie Brown who passed away from encephalitis. The show was absolutely hilarious and filled with dark humor and adult themes and situations (for sure not for kids, this ain't your mama's Peanuts show). The play was very well done and huge props go out to the cast for their believable representations of the characters. The lead of the play (who literally hula hoops) throughout the entire play was spot on and really captivated people from start to finish. For those unfamiliar and without spoiling too much of the play the hula hoop is a representation of the dust cloud that follows the Pigpen character through life. It truly was very well done. As I stated the play did feature many adult themes as well as some nudity throughout so it definitely is not for children or those without an open mind. The parking for the South Coast Repertory shares the parking structure of The Segerstrom next door and thus costs $10. I opted to do some shopping and walking around at South Coast Plaza across the street and decided to just leave my car in the shopping center lot and make the trek over on foot. I am not sure what the policy on this is but I can say I was not alone as at least one other group did the same. They do have security on bikes patrolling the lot so park at your own risk. A great theater who is not afraid of taking on the darker plays who many stray away from. It appears the season is coming to a close but I will definitely be back for more shows next season.
google avatar

Yelp
What a great theater! I've gone to the Segerstrom Center to see musicals for years but never attended a show at SCR until now. I don't think there isn't a bad seat in the house. It was nice to hear a play with natural voices and no microphones, except when needed for effects.
google avatar

Gail P.

Yelp
Clean was a downer! Spending Two hours reliving the damaged lives of two young women was not what I envisioned. Today we have to experience real tragic events... as a seasoned theater subscriber, I hope for plays with some HOPE for a positive life experience for the actors and theatergoers.
google avatar

Plethora T.

Yelp
There are three stages in the South Coast Rep complex: Segerstrom Stage (one level, about 500 seats - none of them bad); Argyros Stage (main floor and three-row balcony that seats about 300); and the "black box" Nicholas Theater used for acting classes and play readings. The website is easy to use. We have seen several shows that were produced at SCR that went on to fame including the recent "Doll's House Part 2." The springtime Pacific Playwright's Festival brings artistic directors from all over the country to hear new-play readings. If you enjoy creative, innovative productions with stellar casts and friendly box office and staff in a much more intimate setting than the Broadway Road Show barns, give SCR a try. Parking is next door in the Westin hotel lot. Tip: Get on the email list for last-minute discounts!

Yelp
Came here to see Sandra Oh in Office Hour and it was the best $70 I spent for a play! We drove from LA to OC and it was so worth it. We sat in the 3rd row and it was the perfect place for this play. After the play, the cast sometimes comes out. I think Sandra Oh only comes out for the evening performance tho. A huge fan of the work they are doing here and the venue is nice. New, airy, bright, spacious, cheery. :)

Yelp
This place made me a Lesbian. ........Wait. That's not right.......an Equestrian. ...............Uh.....hold on. Give me a second. I know this one. I'm not a raging Thespian, but I do read a great deal and though I'm not well versed in acting mechanics and terminology, I DO know that Creon and Oedipus aren't supposed to have leather jackets and machine guns!!!! Back in the day when I had more books than wrinkles, I came here for an extra credit assignment for a literature course I was taking in classical theater. Our assignment was to watch Antigone and identify as many inconsistencies as we could find with the set. The same professor also sent us to watch the movie Troy to ID the flood of incongruities set against classical literature and historical fact, but that's another story. Moving on..... Acting was great and the play was followed well, but leather jackets and machine guns? Glass table tops from IKEA and brandy from a decanter from Kosta Boda? WTF? It was a great time had by all and despite my strong dislike towards modernizing classical theater, I walked out looking forward to my next return. The presentation of the Repertory is very open, airy, and modern. Glass walls and bleached white paint add to a comforting hospital sort of feel....in a good way. Ticket windows are generous in size and allow for many patrons at once. Lobby area is long and narrow. It winds around like a bow and during intermission, there are coffees, teas, and alcohol. Yeah, alcohol. Bathrooms are kept very clean and the general atmosphere of SCP is welcoming in a casually elegant way. I've been here a number of times over the past few years and have always been pleased with the production quality. My most recent venture as a Yelper rewarded me with an amazing production of The Heiress. I was in awe at the acting and would like to return again and watch The Heiress a second time. We did not order tickets and were told that we could buy them at the window for $13 each after a $5 discount we had. Arriving 20 minutes before the curtain, we were told that rush tickets were $25 a piece. We looked at each other and wondered if we should return another night after buying tickets online. The young man at the window was very friendly and I guess he felt like helping us so he spoke with his manager and he offered us rush student pricing at $10 each. Neither of us are students. Front row, Center. No kidding. $20 for Front row, Center at the last minute. That just made our night and we were both tremendously pleased with the entire event. Looking around the theater, we noticed that all the people our age were towards the sides and the back. Everyone else immediate to us were at least two and a half times our age. Had we not gotten the discount, our seats would have been over $100 and out of our budget. It was an amazing evening that originally started off with second thoughts and fatigue. By the middle of the first act, I was awake. By the middle of the second act, I was almost in tears. At the end of the play, there was a standing ovation. Fantastic house of actors. I would like to view The Heiress again, along with several future productions. Plays seen here: Antigone The Heiress A Christmas Carol More that I forget because my memory sucks.

Yelp
South Coast Repertory is a great little theatre with fantastic plays. I was just recently here for Pride and Prejudice and it was so fun to watch. Mind you, I'm a big Jane Austen fan and I've both the BBC & Keira Knightley versions of the movie on DVD. I thought that the play was great and that the seats we had were splendid. There really isn't a bad seat in the house! We had center row M seats, which was the 2nd to last row but could see the stage fine without the need of opera glasses. Tickets are reasonably priced, but you can find discounts on GoldStar or the box office if you are a student or senior citizen. South Coast Repertory is located off of Bristol across the street from South Coast Plaza, next to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Parking can be found for a fee but you can park at a nearby restaurant or at the mall and walk. Come see a show here and support your love of the arts!

Yelp
Superb quality of actors and entertainment. My boyfriend's dad has been a season ticket holder for the past 30+ years. We have accompanied his parents for two plays now and neither of the performances disappointed us! The theater is quite charming and clean. I can't imagine that there's a bad seat in the house as there is little chance the person in front of you will obstruct your view. I love the way the stage moves along with transitions. Lighting, costumes, sound, performers, and everything else that goes into putting on a production is phenomenal. Granted, I personally don't order our tickets or deal with their customer service department so I cannot speak to those lackluster reviews. Nonetheless, BRAVO SCR! The outing is perfect for date night.

Yelp
I've been to the SCR several times, and not once have I been disappointed! Great acting, nice sized theaters, plenty of parking (not free however, $10). They are not afraid to have productions of "off" color and/or taste, yet they still remain classy. Providing creative options as well as classics. Seasonal line-up is always intriguing too. I will say my favorite production was "In the Next Room: The Vibrator Play" -raved about it for weeks, still do years later. Every play has been excellent, staff is always very friendly... it's not just a "little theater in the OC", this is the real stuff, Maynard! Bravo Repertory and CHEERS too!!

Yelp
I found the box office to be extremely helpful and courteous. I had a computer error and purchased multiple tickets. They caught the mistake and honored my purchase of one set of tickets. Thank you for being so attentive and cooperative! Hailey and Jonathon really helped me out. Looking forward to attending a play this weekend!!!

Yelp
Our first theater performance at South Coast Repertory was "Chinglish". We had higher expectations of this play, especially given that it received 4 stars out of 5 on yelp (in New York). The "moving sets' used were clever and well constructed...and flowed seamlessly throughout the play. We were disappointed; however, that the play was fragmented with exaggerated emotions and circumstances. The inter-play between the actors lacked chemistry & though the mis-translations between English & Chinese were oftentimes funny - the overarching themes of the comedy exploring love, politics in China, and business customs, were frivolous at best. We couldn't help but notice that the demographics of the audience was 55+, strung in with a couple hipsters. As for the venue of South Coast Repertory, we really liked the theater & the seating was comfortable. We were fortunate to have good seats w/ prime view. Acoustics were splendid.

Yelp
We were incredibly disappointed with our experience yesterday at South Coast Rep. My parents (season ticket holders for 25+ years) purchased A Christmas Carol tickets over the phone for the whole family, including my two kids age 6 and 4.5. No one on the phone stated there was an age restriction for the show, even when my mother informed them that the two kids tickets we were purchasing were for a four and a six-year old. Imagine our incredible disappointment when we arrived with the family and were turned away at the door. Had they been kind, empathetic or the slightest bit apologetic, we would have been disappointed but understanding. However, the "House Manager" David Nguyen was beyond rude to us. He clearly did not care about our plight and shouted, "I won't make exceptions for you or anyone else!" That was when my daughter started crying. When we asked him if they would refund our money, his curt reply was, "I don't know- that is not my department." One would think that a person with "manager" in his title would be well-versed in customer service, particularly when the venue made the mistake in the first place by selling us tickets even though they were told the ages of our children. Sadly, this manager was rude, surly, inappropriate and he had a complete lack of empathy or customer service. They never once said they were sorry. We left with two crying children in tow because they denied us admittance to a children's play. My season ticket holder parents are cancelling their tickets and we are looking into supporting other venues. SCR should be totally ashamed of themselves. And their uncaring, ill-mannered "manager", David Nguyen should get some serious customer service skills training. We will not be back.

Yelp
I came here with my gf to watch "In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play)" Our seats were near the back, but we still got a great view of the play. the way the stage was built was perfect because we heard the play loud and clear. The place is spotless. immaculate. very well taken care of. the glass entrance, the seats the production stage are all up to standards. They serve drinks, so get your dranks on and try to enjoy the show buzzed. you'll thank me. lol. ;) They usually have deals for shows, so just sign up on their website to be part of the email distribution list. shows are decently priced so they won't bankrupt your wallet. PS: don't pay for parking. just park at south coast across the streets and walk on over. :)

Yelp
Its been a while since I've seen a play but this place was great. I went to see vietgone which gave me a different perspective of the vietnam war. The seats were very comfy, probably more so than those from the broadway shows I went to a few years back. This is a great place for a date or if you just want to get away from home and have a good time. Parking is not free though.

Yelp
Through the Free Night of Theater 2010, I saw "In the next room" at South Coast Repertory. I have been in the area for years and did not know about this great place! It is at a great, convenient location with plenty of parking. I found the "SCR" neon lights at the round about, which led me straight to the entrance. The box office was very helpful and found my tickets in no time. I love the size of the theatre- it has this cozy "family" feeling to it. The show was great! The actors and actresses were professional. The play was smart and very well written. Asit is R rated, i would recommend 18+ people to see this "Vibrator Play". I will definately be back! "Misalliance" or "Becky Shaw" looks interesting~

Yelp
Lovely theater. Gorgeous. Not a bad seat in the house, I'm happy to report, but I did see a show in the smaller theater. Went to see my brilliant friend in Motherf**ker W a Hat. He was impressed given the drive, and traffic. BTW, Parking is $10, not $6 as reported on their web site.

Yelp
I came here for the first time to see the "Night Fairy" with my kids and their friends. It was a Saturday showing at 2:00p (running 5/24-6/9 this year). Parking in the structure was $10..."What?!" at first, but I guess way cheaper than parking for a show in L.A. in hindsight. I was surprised at how nice and clean the building was inside and out. The theater was smaller than I expected, but it made the whole show more intimate. We all sat in the balcony, but thanks to the small scale, we were still able to see and hear the stage pretty well. The set was well lit, and everything moved smoothly. The only thing that annoyed me was that the walkie talkie went off at least twice during the show (someone was talking into it). They should've turned it down or off.

Yelp
We have enjoyed many productions at South Coast Repertory and under the current Covid conditions and continue throughout we really appreciate the requirement for masks and even for proof of vaccination. These things help us to feel safe and protected in an environment where we will be sitting very close to a number of other people. Thank you so much, south coast rep

Yelp
A wonderful little theatre to catch a play. I have no complaints on the theatre itself. Easy to find, plenty of parking and a fantastic restaurant called Vaca just steps away from the front. My husband and I went to go see Red. A 2 man play about one of his favorite artists, Mark Rothko and his assistant back in the 50s when he was commissioned to do a series of murals for The Four Seasons restaurant in NYC. The play itself had wonderful dialogue. Much of it would be easily quotable. The actor playing Rothko, Mark Harelik did a a great job portraying the artist with all his passion and demons but unfortunately, the young actor playing his assistant Paul Story was like walking into a monologue at your high school Drama B class. One dimensional, and was not able to waltz with his partner, which led the main character to take on the whole play. The reason I deducted a star was not because of the theatre itself but I do feel they need to find better actors to play such poignant roles. You certainly will not find Daniel Day Lewis or Meryl Streep here. Not even their stand ins, stand ins.

Yelp
Great place to see some top notch theatre productions. I've seen over a dozen shows here. The plaza location is beautiful with loads of restaurants and bars within walking distance.

Yelp
You know what I hate about South Coast Rep? Nothing. Not a single thing. The size of the theatre, the quality of the productions, the ticket prices, the location, the productions for kids - pretty much everything about it is perfect to me. The quality of the productions though are always surprisingly good. I say "surprisingly" because sometimes it's easy to think of SCR of just "that small theatre over there by OCPAC." But they've got their stuff together over there, amazing sets, great sound, and very good actors. I've been going to this theater for almost 15 years, and it's safe to say what I love most about it is the Christmas productions. Sure, sure, I enjoy lots of the other shows throughout the season, but nothing quite gets me into the holiday spirit until I see A Christmas Carol at SCR.

Yelp
WOWOWOW! This place is ancient and it only has 19 reviews?! Well, I guess I'm guilty of not reviewing it in a timely manner too...LOL! Saw Midsummer Nights Dream here recently, and I loved the show. However, this isn't a review for the show, since that would be off topic... ;) SCR gets 5 stars for picking great shows, maintaining its appearance and cleanliness, and for managing to keep theatre ticket prices down... 1.) Show Selection: SCR gets a little bit of everything. New playwrights (SP?), new plays, award winning plays, classic plays, east coast plays, west end plays...just a great variety for all ages and interests! 2.) Building Maintenance: I know it got a facelift not too long ago, but even so, for a theatre that is over 30 years old, it doesn't look a day over 3 years old! ;) The theatre is clean, comfortable, personal, and best of all...the restrooms have great lighting! ;) 3.) Ticket Prices: Don't believe those $49 ticket prices. They just want to scare away people who aren't willing to do a bit of research! SCR offers student rush tickets, senior discounts, and many deals w/ Goldstar. Sure, you may end up at the back of the theatre, but those are the best seats, since the theatre is cozy, and you can see everything from the back. :) I hope you get the chance to experience a Tony Award-Winning play here...I think you'll love it! :D THANKS FOR READING!
