"It’s right in the name: Get a pita roll from this South End staple, which also has a sibling in Cambridge’s Inman Square. A favorite is the thin-sliced chicken shawarma pita roll, though the more adventurous “shawafel” (chicken shawarma and falafel mix) is not to be overlooked. The Moroccan twist to these dishes shines through in South End Pita’s combo plates. Wash it down with a mint tea. South End Pita is currently offering takeout (direct ordering) and delivery (DoorDash, Grubhub, Postmates)." - Samer Khudairi

"The shish kabob combo plates are essential at Pita, which has three locations in Boston and one in Cambridge. Try the lamb, and get a bowl of lentil soup on the side. (The same folks are also behind Moona, which you should also check out. We know you love it.)" - Terrence Doyle

South End Pita is a fantastic spot for delicious and authentic Moroccan-style Halal food. The lamb shank was absolutely delectable - tender, flavorful, and practically falling off the bone. The falafel plate and chicken kabobs salad were also big hits, with fresh ingredients and generous portions. The staff at South End Pita were friendly and courteous, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a satisfying and flavorful Mediterranean meal."

I had the beef shawarma roll and my girlfriend had the pulled lamb plate. Both were delicious. Total price was $34. Will be back!

Excellent food, generous portions, friendly staff, casual & comfortable atmosphere.

I discovered this place yesterday and I’m back again today… may even be back tomorrow :) The food is amazing!!! By far one of the best I’ve had. The staff is very friendly, accommodating and quick. I’ve tried the chicken shawarma roll, the lamb shank platter, the baklava, the Egyptian cakes and the Arab coffee (spiced coffee). Not even sure what’s my favorite because it was all so very delicious. Now I’m obsessed with Moroccan food. I ended up watching a soccer game with the staff and customers. The vibe was great and the servers were both enjoying the game with us while also making sure we were cared for and quickly served, they didn’t miss a beat. Great experience!!

Google
We had a lunch catered at work on 4/2/24 for 12 people and everything was fabulous! Customer service was also wonderful as we had a couple of requests around dietary restrictions. Eli and his team are the best! Price also incredibly reasonable for the quality of the food.

Google
This place is amazing. Stopped in on a freezing cold day - hot mint tea was perfect. The menu has so many options and there are specials. I had the lamb shank combo and it was soooo good. If I lived in Boston I would frequent this restaurant just to try all the various wraps, soup, and meat plates.

The place is excellent. I haven't been there in a while but they're still serving delicious food. I would go back again with some friends.

Google
My visit to South End Pita had a bit of a dark start— the power was out on the block! But the man at the counter was kind enough to let me know what was going on and that they were only accepting cash. I'm glad I had some on hand, because the Chicken Shish Kabob Combo Plate was worth every penny. Despite the heat, I savored every bite in my car, thanks to my trusty steering wheel tray (which I totally recommend trying if you eat in your car often). 5/5 stars for the food, and I'll definitely be back to try more.

Rhea N.

Yelp
The food & service were amazing. Good clean eating, check their website for daily specials. Yummm

Yelp
prices have risen and quality has gone done. $9 for tabouli which is a pile of bitter roughly chopped parsley. I used to love this place. no more.

T W.

Yelp
I really have nothing bad to say about this food. The lamb burger was phenomenal. I will order again, it was delivered through door dash so I can't really say much about the service but the presentation was everything. The fries were delish! The food arrived Hot ! Not scalding but enough to enjoy the meal. The Roll up was okay, next time I may just leave out the pickles. They are really tangy/sour n it throws the taste off the lamb. But overall this place for the first time hit the spot.

Derek T.

Yelp
Got food poisoning after eating here when previously it was high quality. I know it was this place because it's the only restaurant food I ate in the last few days and I keep an extremely clean kitchen at home and wash my hands before eating.

Vicki M.

Yelp
Ordered from here again and the food was great! Chicken shawarma combo plate was delicious, came with yellow rice and salad. Special #1 Chicken kabob plate also comes with rice, cabbage and salad. Chicken kabob was very tender and flavorful. Pretty good portions too, had some good leftovers for lunches! The kafta pita roll and the lamb kabab pita roll-up were good - hubs found the pickle in them a bit too sour. But otherwise great and filling. Easy to eat, held together well, did not fall apart - he is picky about that :). This is a definite keeper and new favorite for sure!

Nolan K.

Yelp
One of my go-tos in the area. All of the shawarma plates are fantastic - particularly the chicken. The hot sauce is flavorful, if you're interested in adding some heat. The staff is friendly and attentive. 5/5!

Yelp
Ordered South End Pita from Uber eats and was pleasantly impressed with the food. They were the only middle eastern restaurant open on Sunday. The food came well packaged and the food was still warm. The portions were massive. We got the chicken kabob and deluxe kabob and those two were enough to feed the two of us for two nights. The extra pita was also generous and went well with their home made hummus. The meat itself was also juicy unlike some of the drier kabobs I've had from other restaurants. Great food! Would definitely order again.

Matthew M.

Yelp
This used to be reliably fantastic, accommodating and great food at a good value. Ordering for delivery, you can expect this business to load you up with rice and lettuce, while scattering a few chicken bits on your $20 Schwarma Plate. The main portion of their take out container will be the lettuce, the smaller side compartments will be filled with rice and the chicken will be difficult to find. Little add on bits like a scoop of Hummus or a splash of hot sauce will now top you around an extra $6. And of course they don't want to be inconvenienced with your likes / dislikes - so they make sure to disable any "special instructions" boxes across their menu. Feel like the management has forgotten how to leave a customer wanting to come back, and its a shame, because the food is generally pretty good! Just wish they weren't trying to nickel and dime the customer

Tommy V.

Yelp
this might be my favorite Mediterranean place around boston. food is always tasty and authentic. it is a bit pricey but the portion is usually decent. i tend to have enough for 2 meals. i usually do takeout via doordash and pick up process is always smooth. my go to is the Lamb Shish Kabob Plate

Crystal B.

Yelp
The food is awesome. Always fresh and tasty! We only get delivery, so can't speak to the actual restaurant. Orders always arrive correct and packaged nicely.

Rachel E.

Yelp
Pros: food is good and authentic and it's convenient Mediterranean from Southie. Cons: it's expensive!!! If you don't order EXACTLY what is on the menu and customize it, expect to pay $.50-.70 cents for each additional. The "Base" falafel pita is served with hummus, parsley and pickles for $12. I don't get any of those, I just substitute my own 3 toppings but am charged extra - IMO should be an even swap. It fits a craving when we're looking for it, so we'll keep coming back but it's not the best value I've ever had.

Lauren C.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem! All I can say is YUMMY! This roll is packed with flavor and the warmth and crisp pita makes it so good! Fast service.

David J.

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall in SoWa. The food was fast fresh and delicious . The salads are huge.

T F.

Yelp
Food was just ok. I got the chicken shawarma roll and it didn't have much flavor other than the taste of the hummus which felt over powering. I asked for hot sauce on it and I'm not sure if they forgot or if it was just really light. Quick service though but I don't think it was worth it for the cost.

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Loved this place! The food was delicious and SO well priced! I ordered the chicken shawarma plate and my boyfriend ordered the deluxe kabob combo plate. I also got one falafel ($1) and we got 2 pitas - which were HUGE. Both of us ate our leftovers for lunch the next day as the plates came with a very generous amount of food! Everything was incredibly delicious. The combo plates came with rice, green salad, and the meat(s). The deluxe kabob plate in particular came with chicken, lamb, and kafka (a ground meat kabob similar to a meatball made with beef / lamb). We truly loved everything that we ordered and were very impressed by the amount that we got for the price. I will definitely order from here again!

Amanda C.

Yelp
Y'ALL. Can I give six stars?? This is the place for your quarantine take-out desires. I'd heard of Pita before but never had the opportunity to visit in person, so I decided to take advantage of DoorDash to try it out. I got the deluxe kabob plate (comes with two chicken kabob, two lamb kabob, two kafta kabob - which is beef, with rice and a Mediterranean salad with a lemon-y dressing on the side). All of this is roughly $15 and a STEAL for the price. After ordering from here the first time, I proceeded to make a total of FOUR consecutive orders from South End Pita - because it's just SO delicious and such a fab price for the volume of food. Honestly amazing. Add-ons: - You can add pita bread for just over $1, which helps me stretch this out as 2 or even 3 meals, depending how hungry I am. - babaganoush dip $5, imho pretty expensive compared to what you get for the deluxe plate; was delicious, but not sure I want to pay $5 for it - an extra kabob for $2.50... idk, also not worth it in my opinion. Just get a whole 'nother plate :)

Yelp
Ordered delivery from here though Seamless and I was blown away! The lamb burger with cheese ($12 on the app) is a must try. The lamb was so tender and cooked perfectly medium rare (you can choose how well you want it cooked). The patty was seasoned nicely and the cheese and caramelized onions tied everything together. The order came with a lot of pickles. I don't think I've ever gotten that many pickles from any restaurant before! But the pickles were awesome and went well with a lot of other things I ordered. The burger comes with either fries or a salad, so I tried the salad. The salad had your typical fixings like cucumbers, onions, olives, tomatoes, and feta cheese. It also came with a tangy vinaigrette. The salad portion was bigger than I expected. The beef shawarma combo plate ($13.20) was also great. It came with the salad described above, a large portion of beef shawarma, and a large portion of rice. The meat and rice were well-seasoned but not too salty. It didn't make me feel like I was eating a heavy meal. If I hadn't discovered the awesome lamb burger, then I would order this again, but I think I'll be ordering a lot of lamb burgers from this restaurant for a while... I also ordered the hummus ($5.75), pita bread ($1.25), and baklava ($1.50). The hummus was super smooth and on the tangy side. The pita bread order came as two large tortilla-sized, thin pieces of bread. Sadly it was cold when it arrived (while everything else in the order stayed warm) but it still paired well with all the food. I also highly recommend getting the hot sauce ($0.70) for anyone who likes garlic and can tolerate spice. The hot sauce was super garlicky and packed a nice kick. I'm used to seeing restaurants charge close to $3 for a single piece of baklava so I was happy to find out that a piece is only $1.50 here. The pastry was very flaky and overall not too sweet. Super impressed by the food here! I look forward to ordering from here again soon.

Yelp
This place was very disappointing. I had high hopes after reading through their stellar google reviews, but I was very disappointed. The falafel was alright but the lamb shawarma plate was barely edible. The rice was very watery and I had to drain the container upon receiving my meal. The lamb was tasteless and very chewy. This place was definitely a letdown for me

Lucy P.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. So much flavor, spices are subtle and taste so complete together. The staff was very kind and helpful, super polite. We picked it up to go so cannot comment much on a dining in experience. Interior feels like a take out place however there were tables and seating to eat in.

Shaun L.

Yelp
The official rating is a 3.75. This is a couple weeks late but wanted to document the latest eat local meal. I work in downtown boston, and one of the few perks downtown offers are the vast options of Mediterranean lunch spots. I wanted a semblance of normalcy so I decided to try pita. I decided to go for the lamb kebab since wifey isn't a fan of lamb so I need to take advantage of my opportunities. It was delicioso! When I opened the plastic bag, the spices on the lamb were packed with so much flavorful, it made my mouth immediately water. The meat was sliced thinly making it less chewy and easier to eat. Usually you're left with big chunks of meat, so it was a nice attention to detail. The meat was slightly overcooked, but it was probably due to the delivery time. Onto the sides. The rice was good, it wasn't your typical rice pilaf, it was a yellow rice but nonetheless yummy. The greek salad was simple but great. Everything tasted fresh and dressing was good. I'm not a big fan of olives, so that wasn't pleasant for me but I won't punish pita for being picky. Wifey wanted to go vegetarian that day so she got the falafel wrap. The wrap was average. The falafel was good but the wrap itself lacked flavor. A little citrus or a vinegar spice would've helped it. All in all, I would order from here again and try some of their other meats.

Yelp
They kill it every time. Absolutely incredible food. I hope this place never changes. It's incredible and tasty!

Yelp
For a delish dish that is trés authentic -- had the shawarma and baklava -- will definitely go back again

Manuel F.

Yelp
First time here and the food is very good. My wife loved it too. Definitely we'll be back again.

Maria P.

Yelp
I walked passed this place this afternoon and ordered dinner on line this evening, only four stars but I love middle eastern food so figured I'd try it. The lamb was tough and the salad came with a bitter mustard dressing that I threw out and substituted with olive oil, no tzatziki sauce or pita bread came with the dinner just bad dressing. Also, I placed the order at 4:30 to be ready at 5 and when I walked in to pick it up at 5 the order was sitting on the counter not in the kitchen. It was convenient but not great, disappointed.

Ang B.

Yelp
Ive been to Pita several times. I've already had it twice this week. I've ordered delivery, ordered pickup, ordered and ate there- it is ALWAYS good. I mean ALWAYS. Favorites are: Falafel Hummus The hot sauce (you gotta try it!) Chicken shwarma roll up Lamb shwarma roll up or combo I'm sure at this rate I'll get to everything on the menu... Not to mention the staff are great and super friendly!

Leah K.

Yelp
Yummm - delicious local Mediterranean food at great prices. We ordered a salad with chicken shwarma and a beef shwarma roll up with fries. They're great at making your order as you like it, with options like hot sauce and garlic sauce to add to your dish. The salad comes with olives (with pits), feta, pita and a really great dressing. I'd be interested in tasting some of their more traditional items and desserts. Once I called, dinner was ready in 10 minutes and was piping hot! Great choice for anyone in the South End.

A R.

Yelp
These burnt chicken kabobs from South End Pita were 70% inedible! After arriving home last night and opening what I hoped would be a delicious dinner, I became so enraged I had to post my first Yelp review. On occasion the kabobs here can be a bit scorched but never this bad. The cook must have been dozed off or been otherwise occupied while grilling these kabobs. They close at 10:00pm so calling at 10:05pm when I got home and opened this disastrous meal would have gotten me nowhere. What's worse is the fact that the burnt side was on the bottom so as to feature the good side of the chicken while hiding this charred mess. I've patronized this establishment on somewhat of a frequent basis for several years and sent many friends and coworkers there for kabob plates/salads, beef shawarma, etc. As much as I love their kabob and shawarma offerings, the time has come that I take my business elsewhere. Maybe I'll try again in a few years and hope the cook responsible for this disaster has found a profession elsewhere in a different field. It would've been a crime to feed my dog this shameful torched mess! The chickens whose lives were cut short for our nourishment weren't supposed to end up burnt beyond the point if being edible and tossed into the garbage.

Jacquelyn E.

Yelp
Don't hesitate! I had the combo falafel schwarma roll up and my husband got the deluxe combo. Everything was super fresh, hot, and delicious. The tiny little baklava treat and the fresh hummus really took take out night over the top.

Cynthia N.

Yelp
Such good food, kind and friendly staff and owners. Loved everything we had here. I am planning to visit again next time I'm in Boston.

Eileen F.

Yelp
Man, I wish we could've experienced what these other reviewers did. The falafel pita wrap was the DRIEST I've ever had. It was just pita, falafel and parsley. No tahini sauce, no hummus. My husband had the chicken schwarma wrap and his was very dry too. No evidence of hummus. So disappointed.

Christie L.

Yelp
Got the lamb shawarma wrap and it was okay. I wish it had more flavor/sauce. The flavor was all a bit bland. I wish the meat was more evenly spread in the wrap. The wrap was cut in half and the 2nd half had like 1 bite of meat then all lettuce. I felt there was too much pita wrap which may be the reason I felt like the wrap was dry and needed more sauce and flavor. Wish there was just more on the inside and more lively vegetables inside. Felt like it was mostly iceberg lettuce and a sprinkle of pickled purple onion. People do seem to enjoy the combos so maybe I have to go with that instead next time.

Alex R.

Yelp
Ordered the chicken kabob plate with hot sauce (tasted like harissa) and tahini, which also comes with rice and salad. Door dash says it comes with Pita, but I did not receive any, NBD. Overall, chicken was seasoned well and rice was nice and tender; certainly freshly made. Salad portion of the dish wasn't anything too special - lettuce, cucumber, onion, tomatoes, kalamata olives, and some feta, but still fresh veggies which is great. Portion was perfect for me and I'm a big guy - not too heavy but definitely didn't leave me starving. Few extra notes: - harissa (or whatever it is) sauce was perfect heat - kalamata had the pits ! It's a salad guys come on.. almost broke a tooth on one, but I get it. - price was fair but charging $0.70 for a tiny cup of tahini and hot sauce? - where are the options? No tabbouleh, fattoush, spicy potatoes, or tzatziki? These make the meal so much better - I would have loved tabbouleh or Greek salad. Considering you're charging $0.70 for sauce, I imagine these options would be outrageously priced. There are places offering these as free add-ons. 4 stars is based off quality of the meal - it was delicious and fresh. Offer some extras and you'll get the 5 stars. Would recommend. Would order again.

David K.

Yelp
Great place for a takeout middle eastern meal - salads and meats good - ordering online is simple so suggest that

Ali K.

Yelp
Food isn't great. Overpriced and not authentic. Also who serves hummus without a single slice of bread?!

Todd W.

Yelp
The food is top notch! The manager that I called to thank for his amazing food was extremely gracious and appreciative. This is a gem for sure! I'm in from Nashville and found this place on door dash. Excellent food, quick service! I had beef shawarma, pita, humus and a baklava everything was absolutely perfect! The negative reviews about sending plastic ware when asked not to and using plastic bags are freaking laughable. Get a life!!! This food is delicious and fresh! I wanted to add a pic but I already destroyed the food! Booya

Sarah A.

Yelp
Vegan Reviewer: We are absolute regulars here. The food is consistently good and the staff is friendly. I get the hummus combo plate with no feta if we are eating in, and the hummus wrap if we are doing takeout (The combo plates come in big clam shell plastic containers and I just can't justify that amount of plastic. The wraps come in aluminum foil and a paper bag, both of which I can reuse or recycyle). Today I got the lentil soup because I was not very hungry and was not disappointed. It came with the pita on the side. We also bring back their hummus containers to get refills because their hummus is the absolute best I have ever tasted (and, being vegan, I have tried LOTS of hummus). There is a playground across the street, they have large selection of bottled drinks, they happily refill water bottles, they are overall extremely accommodating. ***Use the app "Clover" - a virtual punch card to earn free meals

Yelp
I've been ordering from this place for years and this is one of my favorite places for lamb kabob for the price to quality rato. Their chicken can be overcooked/burnt at times, so I avoid it. But the lamb is cooked pretty perfectly almost every time. I think the mistake that the cook is making is cooking the chicken for the same time as the lamb even though it's thinner/flattened. That's something he might have to watch out for. The lamb however is cooked medium rare and well seasoned. One problem I have with a lot of mediterrarenan places is that they oversalt their meat. Not this place. Well seasoned and well cooked. The rest of their menu is a bit average, kafta is a bit salty, the wraps aren't too flavorful. The portion is great. Two of their menu items that deserves immense praise is the garlic sauce (I order like 4-6 so I have some that I can use for another meal.), and the braised cabbage. The garlic sauce is on the strong side but that's how I like it personally. You can literally taste the garlic. Might not be the best if you're eating at work, unless you bring your toothbrush. The Braised cabbage is seasoned perfectly, and is a great complement to the meal. Highly recommend as a quick/heavy lunch. If you want a lighter lunch, order the lamb kabob salad with a side of the braised cabbage. Their blakavas are pretty dang good as a treat too depending on if you get the fresh batch or the end of the pan batch.

Katrina S.

Yelp
I've been to a variety of Mediterranean restaurants, but this one was not my favorite. I ordered online for pick-up, which was extremely easy to use and very efficient. I wish more restaurants had that easy online ordering form. I will say before I hope into my review, that the restaurant smelled delicious and I wish that was more indicative of the food. In regards to the food, I had the Beef Kefta Kabob Salad. The meat was cold, didn't have much flavor, and some pieces were not cooked properly. Honestly it was some of the worst Kefta Kabobs I've had. The salad dressing was good, but nothing spectacular. Overall, I would not order again from this place.

Bailee P.

Yelp
I came here after volunteering because I was starving!!! I got a chicken roll up. I was thinking it was going to be just like the gyros I would get in Italy and unfortunately it wasn't. There wasn't as much fresh ingredients in it. There was chicken, hummus, pickles, and some cilantro. The wrap was a little too crispy too. I like when it's more fluffy! It definitely hit the spot and if you like Mediterranean food I'm sure you'll love this place!

Sandra S.

Yelp
Staff is well managed and seem very happy. The food is authentic and top notch considering it's fast.

Barry B.

Yelp
This place is amazing. You get so much for your buck. and the food is just amazing! My Go yo is their beef shawarma plate. It comes with salad, rice and beef shawarma. I also add garlic sauce on the side for extra. The whole plate just works well. Sometimes I would add falafel which is also amazing. I am regular here and you would enjoy it too.

David K.

Yelp
Nice people, fast service, incredible menu, very very clean inside, delicious, the only negative is it's hard to park around here. But there is a nice place to sit outside, a little park practically right outside the front door.

Asher H.

Yelp
Hungry late at night, but not wanting to go out, we ordered Pita based on the solid reviews (and also because they were open. ) Expectations were reasonably kept low, but the food was legitimately tasty and very filling. We ordered a wrap as well as a platter and both options were exactly what we were looking for. A perfect low-key spot to order at with very solid/affordable food.

Charlie B.

Yelp
Food was great, everything tasted fine but beware, THEY DO NOT WASH THE PRODUCE. I purchased from this place twice and both times I was met with literal dirt on the lettuce and in the tabouli. They add salad to the combo plates that was rendered inedible when I took a closer look to see dirt on everything. Again, great place but a little dirty.

Edi D.

Yelp
Delicious!! Ordered takeout from caviar. The chicken and rice combo was very flavorful, the accompanying side salad was romaine based and fresh, the hummus was A+, and the grape leaves in tahini were some of the best I've had. Far exceeded my expectation. Will order again!

Latti L.

Yelp
Door dashed this place to the convention center and was pretty pleased. Monster pita burrito style. Chicken shawarma was excellent and there was plenty of sauce. Pita bread stood up to the sauces and had a good texture, not too soggy or stale. The pita bread is not super soft here, it's a little tougher (closer to a tortilla). The hummus was fresh and tasty too, it comes with a side of pita bread to eat it with, may order pita chips or something next time. Chicken was solid, looking forward to trying their beef and lamb.

Stephanie D.

Yelp
I was excited when I found this little restaurant in South End because of its convenient location (only a few minutes away from UMass Boston) and Mediterranean food. The staff was incredibly attentive and kind. When I asked for the Falafel Pita Roll-Up ($6.25), they walked me through while they were making it to see what I wanted on it. However, they do go quickly, so you have to speak fast if you don't want something. (I didn't speak fast enough when they asked if I wanted cucumbers - womp.) Additionally, not all places allow you to add tabouli for no extra charge, so I was happy to see that Pita does! As for the actual food, while I thought it was delicious, I noticed that their Falafel Pita Roll-up is slightly different from that of other Mediterranean places; they add cucumbers (which I personally do not like) and the tabouli tastes quite different. That being said, the pita was amazingly crispy and the falafel was delicious.

Hope G.

Yelp
I live in walking distance so this is one of my go to places for a reasonably healthy and very delicious meal. I love the salads with chicken, the lentil soup, and the hummus. The hummus is seriously the best around. Wayyy better than anything store bought. And best of all? The the prices are great. Overall, an excellent place!

Skye G.

Yelp
Wow, I fell into this place and am so glad I did. Their salads were packed full of flavor, chicken was moist and delic and hit the spot dead on. I was starving and was thinking of chips and a soda. The place has nice seating but I got my salads and specialty teas to go. The people were very pleasant. Made my order, rang me up and I was on my way. I've tried to go back and the hours seem hit or miss but I know I will hit it right again.

Julia L.

Yelp
This is one of my regular go to spots for lunch and it's always been consistent. I usually get the chicken kebab combo plate which consist of chicken kebab, rice, salad and pita bread. Their falafels are also good being tasty and crispy on the outside. The service is quick and the portions are decent size. Overall, this is a fast casual food and the quality is what you would expect from a fast casual place. I like to go here because it's always been consistent and I know I'll have a satisfying lunch.
