Caldor Fire Could Cost South Lake Tahoe Restaurants Millions | Eater SF

"I noted that at South Lake Brewing Company, co-owner Nicole Smith said reverting to online sales—which buoyed the restaurant during the pandemic—could help recover some of the lost Labor Day weekend business as the area begins reopening." - Lauren Saria

I love the flights! They come on a super cute ski and the flavors were a nice mix. I’m not a fan of everyone bringing their poorly behaved dogs inside, but otherwise a great place with great service.

Jamey M.

Google
This is a nice small brewery in a good location on the west side of town. The parking lot is small, but there is public parking up the side road according to the sign when you exit the lot. It is super busy on the weekend during the summer, and there was a line out the door on a Monday afternoon when I was there. The IPAs are crisp and light, definitely not on the heavy side. They had a food tent outside, but I didn’t try anything there. I’ll be back for sure the next time I’m in town.

Google
The beers are okay, the Guava sour was really good. I like they allow dogs indoors at this location specifically. However, 2 flights is not worth nearly $50...

2025 Summer review. A great community staple! They rotate food trucks and pops up here. Betty’s Balls (tapas and catering) is offering up some early summer fare - the sliders are amazing! They rotate around music at the lake and the farmers markets. But back to the main event, the beer! And slushies. A must in the hot summer. They have a non-alcoholic slushie and a rotation of flavors for the others seltzer based options (prickly pear, watermelon, pina colada). Good space for large groups with 2 patios with umbrellas and a large main space with a pull down screen for events and sports. Dog treat and water area for the pups and games for the kiddos. Easy to park a bike and enjoy some of the old favorites and new brews (Fog Nozzle hazy IPA, Marlette Sunrise blood orange blonde, Sierra Oro Mexican lager, and Trail Blazer pale ale are fan favs). They have a wicked beer to go section too. Lots of events and they just celebrated their 8 year anniversary. Their merch is really cute also? I have a dog collar and my pup looks pretty sharp.

Been coming here every visit to South Lake Tahoe since they opened. Definitely worth the stop. Love that it's so family friendly and dog friendly. The beer garden addition in recent years is really awesome! The beer selection continues to grow and has been consistently fantastic. Also love the food pop up offerings, merchandise and fun events they have!

Google
My husband and I took a day trip to Lake Tahoe and we happened upon South Lake Brewing Company. I like the chill and modern vibe of this place, with lots of natural light inside. They had a good selection of beer and 1 seltzer at the time. I’m giving this place 4 stars because I thought the service of the bartenders was a little lacking and I strongly disliked the seltzer I got but, it is a brewery and I felt their beers were pretty good. If you like beer, I would stop by and check this place out!

Google
Wonderful craft brewery. Great tasting beer. Super friendly staff and equally friendly owners. We visited both locations. The food at the Libation location near Stateline is delish. It's got a very nice patio to watch the world go by.

Google
Get a flight. They come on a ski. So fun. Otherwise we enjoyed the food and beers and the guy behind the bar was friendly. The blue cheese burger sliders were fantastic. I didn't care for the texture of the sweet potato fries but they tasted good.

Yelp
My first trip to South Lake Tahoe. We stopped in after a long day sightseeing and shopping. This is a nice place with friendly staff that CARES. My son is newly gluten free. They did everything they could to make it safe for him! The amber was a nice pairing with the grilled chicken sandwich. The fries were perfect. The staff checked in several times, not just typical obligatory stuff. They wanted to make sure we were happy with their work. Thank you Chris and friends!!!

Yelp
Plenty of seating at this place! My boyfriend and I ran into this place on the 4th of July after spending the morning at Angora Lakes. We were surprised they were open as they had a food truck serving outside. Oh and a lot of dogs with their owners hanging out front. My boyfriend placed an order for a pretzel & drinks while I used the restroom-- on the way to the restroom there is local art displayed for sale, just FYI. Overall, everyone was attentive and polite. The bartender kept my drink at the bar since she needed to check my ID and she was very friendly about it, which I really appreciated. I had their only hard seltzer and wow, it was strong!

Yelp
We always enjoy checking out local breweries. Great vibe, music and service. Pet friendly as well!

Yelp
* The Libation Lodge kitchen & taproom location* (Lake Tahoe Blvd & Heavenly Village Way) Amazing service and beer & food selections. We had fun drinking and eating here, especially thanks to our server Amy who was very friendly, knowledgeable and fun, and she made our whole experience at South Lake Brewing extra special. Great location, plenty of seating inside and out, and the beer... really yummy IPAs, and the beer flight is served on a mini ski!!! Can't wait to come back here again!

Yelp
This place has become one of our go-tos since we discovered this place last year. We ended up going there at least twice each visit in south lake tahoe. Hubby loves this place. They are super dog friendly, inside and out. And ton of space, our dog babies could really stretch out and relax there. It's a very rustic feel and super chill. At 3pm ish it was busy and packed folks are so chill and hang out there. And it's a true brewery, they brew their own beers right on the spot, you can see their HUGE tanks inside right there. It's quite something. I'm not a beer person tbh but he loves their creative menu. And I could also get some fruity flavor for myself too. They do work with a food truck so you can get some simple food. He loves the beers me and the dogs love the vibes there. So will be back.

Yelp
Dropped in on a Friday afternoon, it wasn't too busy and we were able to find a table right away. It seemed like a great spot for groups to hang and get together, and it's also kid and pet friendly. There were lots of communal games my group chose to play uno! As for drinks I tried the sour they had on tap, it wasn't my favorite as it was almost unpleasantly sour. Overall I would recommend and go back when in Tahoe!
google avatar

Yelp
Large beer selection and a couple wines and ciders which I always appreciate. We did not eat food but it looked and smelled delicious. We were told about a couple other places to go from the super friendly guy who helped us. He asked my husband what kind of beers he typically drinks and gave him a couple samples to try before making a selection. Super cute inside and loved the plants on the tables
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
This place was great and dog friendly indoors! It was the best - mid afternoon on a weekend with just a bunch of dogs and their owners. One of the only spots you can escape the intense heat. I did the beer flight - you can fill out a form and they give you your beers on a ski. Super cute - the beers were good and you can also bring in your own food, which was a nice bonus

Yelp
On a weekend trip at Lake Tahoe and needed some cold drink with the hoppy taste, found this on Yelp and we decided to swing by. Such a great place to grab nice cold freaking beer during this hot summer. The juicy IPA was so ice cold and refreshing. The big space foe seatings are great for group and we had lots of fun getting away from the heat! We each got a pint instead of half since the rice is just $2 difference. We will totally stop by again when we're in town!

Yelp
Love this place. First time here. Super friendly staff and equally friendly and passionate owners. They make really good tasting beer. Facility has a good vide. Highly recommend.

Yelp
PERFECT lunch spot!! The staff, food, and ambiance 10/10. Chicken tenders and burgers were delicious. We brought our dog so we sat on the patio. The staff was so kind to bring us a water bowl for him. We got him a pup paddy for a really reasonable price! Definitely will be coming back & recommending to friends.

Debbie C.

Yelp
We love dogs. We have dogs. They let people with dogs, sit at the table in their laps, licking off the same plates that they serve humans on As fun as it is and as great as the atmosphere is, we won't be going back
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
We visited this brewery during their Oktoberfest event. It was jam packed but had seats available outside. We were able to order a few drinks and sit outside comfortably. I ordered the party pontoon . It was so good! If you are in town, I recommend stopping here for some drinks.
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
We had a great time here! What fun beers we had. I had a churro porter which was super cinnamonny and delicious. Our group favorite was the blonde coffee ale! So good.
google avatar

Bernadette D.

Yelp
This brewery might be a bit touristy, it is Tahoe! The beer is outstanding, and their ginormous pretzel is a must-try. It's also dog-friendly, which is a huge plus. Don't miss out on the fun merchandise--they've got something for everyone. There was live music when we were there on a Saturday. A great place for good times and even better brews!
google avatar

Charon R.

Yelp
Quickie here and I don't often review breweries strictly on beer alone but . We had the Angora IPA and the Fog Nozzle IPA. Both are great but that fog nozzle is extra yummy deliciousness!

Bill M.

Yelp
Best folks Best beers Dogs welcomed! I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great place to socialize and enjoy beer!
google avatar

Fiona K.

Yelp
Had a great time watching the Lions beat the Buccs here last weekend! Great beers, great burgers, & great staff. Will definitely visit next time I'm in Tahoe. My only critique is I wish we were given more beer cheese lol.
google avatar

Zaid M.

Yelp
This place is not the best. Very rude and when asked about food they said we don't serve any food here. Update your Yelp then dummies. Anyway, this place sucks. Go anywhere else
google avatar

LeeAnn B.

Yelp
While I loved the ambiance and dog-friendly outdoor seating of this place, I found it pretty basic overall. I didn't dislike it by any means, but nothing stood out to me. The staff was friendly, but bare minimum and the food was fine. My husband also enjoyed his IPA, but said it was nothing to write home about. It definitely did the job as a spot to eat while we had our dogs and it's a very convenient location, near the hustle and bustle of South Lake Tahoe.
google avatar

Yelp
We went to South Lake Brewing when the Get Rad Pizza truck was there and it was amazing! Super dog friendly both inside and outside. You'll likely see a lot of dogs if you come! Indoors had a live band and the outdoor beer garden had cornhole and lots of tables to choose from. Both were great options. Flights come in a brewski and there are many options to choose from. Service was great, staff was friendly, easy parking, and they even sell custom discs for any disc golf lovers!
google avatar

Yelp
The beer was very well done. I came here with my Dad and it was a great experience. The service was more or less. The two gentleman were quiet and respectful. I Wish they had really gave my Dad a true brewery welcome.
google avatar

Ewa U.

Yelp
Another great place In the "dog friendly south lake chronicles" --- this industrial type brewery lets dogs run loose, and people love it! Don't come here if you're not into dogs. Just kidding - there's plenty of room to perch up away from our furry friends if that's not your thing. Dogs aside, the beer selection is great and you can munch on some chips w yours dranks. There is a outdoor beer garden attached to this establishment come warmer weather (I think). And, if you're into local purchasable art, plenty of it hanging on the walls leading to restrooms. Enjoy

Yelp
TL;DR If you're looking to grab a beer on tap somewhere in heavenly village, this is a good spot for that. There is pretty limited seating because the tables are large, so fair warning. Their food is good but the service is not. Details below. If you want good food, drinks, and service, go to Stateline Brewery down the street. Although the food is good, the options are limited and their service is poor. Our table ordered chicken strips & a salad on order #33, and a burger and kids grilled cheese on order #36. The first order (33) came out within 15-20 minutes, but for the second order (36), it took 35 minutes to receive the burger and 45 minutes to receive the grilled cheese. After our friends on 33 had been eating their food for a while and we saw multiple tables who ordered AFTER us receive their entrees, we asked a server to check on our order. 30 minutes had passed since we ordered and the server did check on it but just reported back that we simply "have to wait" because they are backed up in the kitchen. I don't believe that was the issue here - our order was just 3 behind our friends' order, and it took another 30 minutes to receive ours. Worse, it took longest to get the KIDS meal. Typically that would come out first if not at the same time as the adult meals. I would've had more patience had they just admitted that they either messed up the order and had to redo it or forgot to start cooking it entirely. Instead they were defensive and unapologetic. Once we got our food, no one checked in on us. No one brought silverware for the salad so we went looking for some ourselves. Overall, disappointing. They also have you pay and therefore tip at the counter before you receive your food so you cant express any dissatisfaction that way. (Before anyone comes at me on this, I tip 20% by default and increase or decrease according to the service. I never tip less than 15%).

Yelp
Really good burgers and good service. Accommodated a picky eater in our part no problem. Burgers were particularly good with Avacado.
google avatar

Yelp
They are pretty much our favorite brewery in South Lake now. I love their new Pie Shop Sour. I hope they make more sours in the future so I have more options to drink. Also like when they have their golden stout. My husband loves their beers too. We started going to their trivia night and it is so fun. Great staff. The pizza food truck is also very good. We prefer this location over the one at Stateline ( The Libation Lodge) as it is a less touristy area.

Brandon T.

Yelp
Liv and Michael were amazing to work with, we rented out the patio for a wedding weekend event. The space was amazing, the beer was spectacular, and the food catered from their other location was so good. We are fans forever and can't wait to come back soon!
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Friendly staff but the only non-beer option is the most disgusting hard seltzer slushy you can imagine. We left it on the table and went elsewhere despite the steep price we paid. Staff was nice and vibe was good so it was disappointing that they didn't have more options available.
google avatar

Bojana V.

Yelp
My husband and I enjoyed delicious hazy IPAs. Cool space, very friendly staff. Would for sure return!
google avatar

Anna F.

Yelp
My family enjoyed this spot! The menu seems small but everything is really delicious. Keep in mind that everything, or at least the wings, is precooked, so they're just reheating things for you in the back. Our first order of wings came out cold in the middle, but they were good sports and sent out a new order and knocked off a beer from the tab as an apology. In general, the guys working here seem to really enjoy it, which definitely boosts the vibe as they're greeting you with smiles and jokes. The wings were perfectly tangy and crunchy, and the burger was huge and had a really nice smokey sauce lathered inside. The star of the show was surprisingly the add-on: sweet potato fries! I'm not usually a fan of sp fries, more of a traditionalist, but these were shockingly addictive. The beers were also very fragrant and fun, particularly enjoyed the fog hazy IPA.

Yelp
We come often and the long hair brunette is a hard one to read. She doesn't smile, want to talk, or be friendly whatsoever. It's like pulling teeth to get a conversation. Why tip someone just punching buttons to put in an order and serve you without a friendly smile or way. Customer service isn't her strong suit! She clearly doesn't want to engage!
google avatar

Maria C.

Yelp
This place is awesome. The wings might be the best I've ever had - get the Korean bbq sauce. Pulled pork sliders were also excellent. Made the mistake of not getting one of the frozen cocktails so will need to go back for one and more wings!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday to try a few beers. Our host suggested we do a flight. There were two options. 1) $17 - pick any 5 beers from the available. 2) $40 - try all the beers on tap (13-17 depending on availability). We went with trying them all (shared among 3 of us). The beers came on a shot ski. Very fun! We liked all the beers and they had a big variety. The tasting room was large and had lots of seating. You can see the tank room where they make the beer as well. They do a trivia night on Thursday's too - will have to try that soon!
google avatar

Chad G.

Yelp
Great vibe , great beer. Dog friendly, easy parking . Outdoor and indoor seating. Not a restaurant but they have some basic snacks like packaged trail mix, popcorn, etc.

Emon K.

Yelp
We went to South Lake Tahoe over the weekend and we tried this place. Great outdoor dining area and very spacious. I went ahead and tried bacon chicken sandwich and it was fantastic. The chicken breast was seasoned perfectly and it was very juicy. It might be one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever tried! The fries were great, perfectly seasoned and crispy. I will definitely visit them again when I'm in town again and try the other stuff in the menu.
google avatar

Fizzy P.

Yelp
Service was great! Ambiance is good. The beer was amazing, even though I'm not a huge fan of beer, at all; however, the food was inedible. I took a few bites, then spit the last bite out. It was so awful. I ordered the sticky fried chicken sandwich and it was like chewing rubber. The sauce has no flavor, even the slaw and pickles on it were tasteless. Such a disappointment after traveling all day. Hubby had the smash burger and the mac salad. He ate his burger, but said the mac salad was horrible. I tasted it, too, and he was right. So sad that the food was so bad because the place is nice for atmosphere and beer. If you want good beer, go here, but don't order the food.

Irene G.

Yelp
Super great experience! Both indoor and outdoor seating is available, both have a chill and cool atmosphere. The chicken tenders are moist and delicious, and the giant pretzel really is GIANT. Every staff member is pleasant and down to earth, overall just a fun place to grab drinks, a meal, or both!

Charles W.

Yelp
The beer is okay but overpriced. The pint glasses are small and only hold about 12 oz. The small "pints" cost $9. The food trucks are overpriced also. A sandwich costs $16. Buy your stuff at Grocery Outlet and stay at home. Save your money for better things!
google avatar

Rae H.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, service, and beer. Tried the Trail Builder Pale Ale and Angora WC IPA and would recommend both. The food was great too and I highly recommend the Katsu sliders.
google avatar

Randy B.

Yelp
Probably in my top 3 breweries, every beer I've tried has been great. Bartenders have always been friendly and helpful. Nice and open on the inside with a patio and beer garden.
google avatar

Bridget W.

Yelp
This is now my favorite brewery in SLT. The beer selection is fantastic (including some delicious darks that I'm always on the hunt for), the selection rotates VERY frequently, and the atmosphere is super chill and inviting. I'm also a fan of the music they play, too. And - major plus - they are dog-friendly both inside the brewery and on the patio, including providing a water bowl for your pooch. I like that they aren't overflowing with a major crowd, which is more than likely because they are farther down the boulevard (and away from the casinos and tourist hot spots). To me, this seems more like a gem for the locals and the more serious beer connoisseurs. There's no food served here so they welcome you to bring whatever outside food in (and will even hook you up with plates, napkins, and utensils). It's a popular DoorDash location for sure. All in all, if you're looking for a great place to grab a couple of quality pints without all the tourist vibes this is definitely your place, and my go-to spot after a day on the mountain.
google avatar

Marissa W.

Yelp
Fun little beer patio with good food truck options. Relaxed place that allows kids- has games on the patio and also in the beer room.

Sandra D.

Yelp
Had a wonderful time at the brewing Company with Zach and the blonde bartender however, Tyler took over the bar and was extremely rude and gave me a completely different perspective of the brewing company. Beer is great, but Tyler service was very bad. Would have given them a five star, however Tyler changed my opinion of this brewing company..

Alice A.

Yelp
11$ for a beer. No room at the bar for your legs, hard to sit and the place has very little atmosphere.
google avatar

Chloe B.

Yelp
Little gem tucked in to an easy spot to find. There is out door and in door seating. They had a pizza person when we were there. I enjoyed that they had something for everyone to drink there. I'd go back.

Kristen G.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, and the food is delicious. I even enjoyed an IPA, and I'm usually not a fan. 10/10 definitely recommend.. portions are generous too.

Aileen V.

Yelp
We were visiting from New York and were looking for a fun trivia night out. Our experience did disappoint. The drinks were great, and the food we ordered was a delight! We highly suggest ordering the brussel sprouts. We had two orders!

Cameron C.

Yelp
They have bomb beer and they always have good rotating food trucks! Service is always great as well

Yelp
Visiting from out of town and found this gem on groupon. My partner and I got 2 beers and 2 souvenir glasses with the Groupon deal. Sooo worth it! I love west coast style and this brewery delivered. The Angora is crushable to say the least. Super easy drinking a really well done west coast ipa. My partner like seltzer's and loved their seltzer. A great experience overall.
