Find the Best Liquor Stores in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"This shop might be called the palace of liquor stores in Minneapolis. It features a wide variety of high-quality products across the entire range of spirits, even into the more esoteric corners of calvados, mezcal, and rum for which smaller stores often can’t make space. Navigating the multitude of options can be challenging, but the staff are more than capable as co-pilots on any liquid journey. Order online or by phone for curbside pickup, or for home delivery." - Eben Stine

When incredible BBQ meets expertly selected bourbon, it’s already a win. When it’s paired with a welcoming atmosphere, great conversation, and a team that genuinely loves what they do, it becomes something special! They did it right!! Huge thanks to everyone who made the event so memorable. I felt the passion in every detail. Grateful to have shared the experience with such an awesome crew. Thank you!

Google
I stopped in today to try their sandwiches, and I loved just about everything this place had to offer. They have indoor/outdoor seating, a convenient water station, plenty of free parking, a great vibe, super clean bathrooms, and a rockin deli with sandwiches, various cheeses, sides, tiramisu and more! It has an upscale look and feel but it isn’t going to break the bank if you’re grabbing a bite to eat. It is also fairly spacious, and I loved the high ceilings in the deli section. Honestly, it isn’t a place I would’ve initially expected the Twin Cities area to have as it stands out from a lot of other places. As for my sandwich, I ordered the Italian Hero. This was a little bit of a spin on a traditional Italian Hero since this one came with tapenade and pickled red onions. The flavors were pretty exceptional, the lettuce was dressed well with oil/vinegar and the portions were decent. There was also a pleasant mild kick which could've been from something like spicy soppressata or a hot pepper spread. They didn't go into detail on everything that was in the sandwich so I'm just guessing! The sandwich was overflowing a bit the way it was prepared so I feel like this could use some work. It could've also used just a little more meat. However, my only real gripe would be that the seeded roll was a little stale and dry. I think the bread can sometimes make or break a sandwich so this was a bit of a let down. If they can improve the bread quality, I would say it could go head to head with some sandwiches I have had out on the east coast. Someone reviewed the Italian Hero a year ago and that photo should be used as the reference for making this sandwich. The preparation and meat to veggie ratios looked excellent. If they could replicate that again, I'm sold. The seeded roll also looked way better at that time. Either way, I will probably give them another shot in the future since the Prosciutto and Smoked Turkey sandwiches looked very appealing and it's apparent they are striving to offer a good experience.

Google
Friggin legit. Come for the extensive beer and bourbon selection, stay for the solid market & deli. The sandwiches are on point, the lasagna is dialed in a delicious, and the bruschetta is delicious and smacks.

TOP TIP: Don't try to dispute your customers' reality. It's not helpful. Instead, apologize and do better. No need to respond because I'm not going to give you another try. Been there, done that. And, of course you aren't a big box store. Would I expect to get good customer there? Absolutely hate shopping here. Can't find anything. Nothing is intuitive. No help. Apparently I'm supposed to know some guy walking around in a hoodie is actually working there. Meanwhile 4 people standing around at the registers helping no one. Someone goes ahead of me who is paying with a card - goes to the ONLY cash line and the other 3 can't accept cash. Takes 40 minutes to find and buy a 4 pack of beer and it's a miserable experience. The woman working in the liquor section is fantastic - truly an asset to the store. The rest of the staff on an empty Sunday are not. They apparently have no idea how to even spell customer service. I always love going to a place where I feel like I'm doing them a favor while I wait for them to finish their personal conversations. Top tip - can't be world class with abysmal customer service. Absolutely not going to spend my money here anymore. The owner should be a lot more concerned as I know I've heard this same thing from many of my neighbors. He's got one huge footprint to have so many locals avoiding his store.

Google
The wine bar here is fun. Get a wine card for a $2 activation fee plus whatever you decide to put on the card and then use it on the wine vending machines. There's a nice selection of different wines that, at least for me, are not the stuff I usually buy. So it's nice to do some tasting. You can choose to get just enough for a few gulps ($2, $2.50 range) or a regular pour ($7 to $10). The prices are from memory so may not be exact. They also have a nice selection of cheese and meat boards, sandwiches, etc. See my pictures for the menu.

Google
I usually love this place and have been frequently. Today I shopped around, asked questions and put together an order all to be refused service because my underage relative was with me. I've brought my daughter in with me before and there were 3 children with an adult in front of me. I pointed to them when I was refused and was told " if they are old enough to stay in the car they should" no signage of this "rule" was posted anywhere nor were we informed of this by the multiple staff members that we interacted with along the way. I drive past a few local liquor stores to get to this one but I guess I'll just stick closer to home from now on

Google
Just went to South Lyndale Liquors for the first time last weekend and what a treat! Great patio and wine bar, and the most delicious sandwiches from the deli. It was especially fun that they had a pop-up version of Paperback Exchange bookstore tucked in a corner. Wine, food, and books - what a great combination!

Google
South Lyndale Liquors is awesome! We live relatively close by, been coming to them for years, and i love their new location and expansion. Wonderful selection and service. They have a great staff who’s really knowledgeabe. They even helped me with a dynamite wine tasting real estate Client appreciation event once that went super well. Thanks you guys!

Yelp
Broad AND well-curated wine and spirits offerings. Sandwiches also first-rate. Self-vending area is most welcome! Rivals Surdyk's and France 44 in most respects.

Yelp
Unprofessional and poorly handled customer service by employee. Twice. Over something that I did not understand. Employee was belligerent and rude, shouting at me loudly, despite me staying calm and apologizing for something that I was unaware of and at no point was I intentionally being disrespectful to the property or the employees. Just absolutely uncalled for.

Yelp
Best liquor store in the cities Best sub sandwiches in the cities Do I need to say more? Located in their brand new building, they have not only a superb selection of wine, beer, and liquor, but their staff is the most knowledgeable staff I have found. And their pricing is fair. New with this location is their sandwich shop and single serving wine bar. Italian was awesome. And being able to try 15 (?) wines buy the glass is equally as great. For a new building, it sure is nice. Not as overstuffed as total wine, it is just a great place to shop Every time I am in the cities I am going to be stopping by. Staff is super helpful and not snobbish. You have a budget, and they are happy to help

Yelp
Writing a review because of such great pricing, friendly service, many tastings throughout the week and great selection of beers, liquors and wine. They have a specific liquor from Milwaukee that I cannot find at most other places. They also have a cute adjoining room for food and drinks to enjoy!

Yelp
My new favorite liquor store, deli, and food-event venue. The space is huge! Enormous selection of reasonably priced beer, wine, and spirits. The space is clean and well laid out with the deli and wine bar in a vestibule before the store proper. All the service has been great: especially the deli and event staff. Went for a St. Patrick's day tasting/Q&A of Padraig Brewing and it was a really laid back, fun event. Intimate setting with well thought out cheese pairings. A got a coupon to grab some liquor afterwards. We grabbed an Italian sandwich before and it was amazing. Packed with meat and house giardiniera on a super fresh and soft bun. Really strong flavors and one of the better pricey "artisanal" deli sandwiches I've had. They've got happy hour at the pour-your-own wine bar so we'll definitely be back soon.

Yelp
Their new store is awesome. It's about twice the size of the old one with beer coolers all around the perimeter. They have literally every kind of beer you could want. And they have a deli with cheese, cured meats, olives, all great stuff. They have both hot and cold sandwiches made to order, delicious! You can eat your purchase in a dining area. Best yet, there is wine available by the glass in three different sizes. All dispensed by an amazing array of machines. This new location is worth a visit.

Yelp
WOW - I am blown away by their new location just a few blocks south! This space is stunning, so well-designed and well-kept, with an incredible variety. We were in the area and decided to pick up some holiday goodies. Plenty of parking in their large parking lot - and were stunned when we walked in. As you walk in, there are some private rooms on the side, bathrooms, a deli and cheese counter (that makes sandwiches!), all before you get to the alcohol. As you walk in to the liquor store section, the tall ceilings and clean lines of rows greet you. There happened to be a festive Maker's Mark car that was stunning to look at when we visited! Their selection here is mesmerizing - so many great options. I was able to find more soju and sake than I expected to find - loved the variety! Checkout service was quick and friendly. I will be back!

Doug B.

Yelp
The staff doesn't know anything about the inventory. I wanted Pernod. It took three people to get me to the correct aisle. They have lots of wine - but it would be really helpful if they only had several selections of each varietal - since no one is going to buy the same wine again. The check-out clerk was a jerk.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
New favorite liquor store! Where else can you buy just about anything from anywhere, listen to amazing music while doing so AND get to taste and drink wine while eating an amazing charcuterie board???? Cannot wait to go back. Sandwiches also looked amazing. Great service and an abundance of parking. A new meaning to "honey, just going to run to liquor store".
google avatar

Yelp
I was back for lunch and see that the wine tasting bar is now open. There were 24 bottles available. A mixture of Italian, Spanish, and French - reds, whites, and rose's. Not a single generic box wine in the group. All looked interesting. Lunch was great Italian beef sandwich for me and mortadella for my wife.
google avatar

Yelp
They had good customer service but the line was long and cashier's were slow and it was a bit dirty but price was good
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
I recently attended a fundraiser at their new events room and it was fabulous. The manager was a gracious host and told us we were the first to use the room. We had quite a group so it was a little cozy in there but we all had a chair and table at which to enjoy the wine tasting. I'm excited to go back and pick up the wine I ordered at the fundraiser so I can check out the store area. The room is beautiful with exposed brick, open ceilings and a modern industrial vibe. Parking was nicely located in a lot next to the place. On nicer days, there is also a lovely patio. Great experience.

Yelp
South Lyndale Liquors provides an opportunity to travel the world, with all the wines, beer, and spirits from around the world. The deli and wine bar is my new favorite place to meet up with my friends, or just bring a book I am reading. The best part!? You can also order the food to take home!
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
I have been to the new location a couple times now. It seems like they have taken a note from France 44 and have added a small section for upscale foods and sandwiches. I think the liquor and wine selection remains to be one of the better in the city. I found the sandwich's to also be quite good just not quite up to the challenge of being better than France 44. Still I might get them again if I stop by for whiskey.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Stopped in for a sandwich, pleasantly surprised and delicious. Loved the wine sampling/pour your own system in place. Will be back with friends for HH soon

Alice B.

Yelp
Super rude workers. Will not be going here ever again and I hope you don't either! This place was really not any fun to go into.
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
As previously mentioned in my past review South Lyndale Liquors has a great sample wall where you can taste almost any liquor they carry, in the review I would like to give South Lyndale Liquors a shout out for always allowing local breweries and distilleries to show case their latest and greatest. We stopped in the other week to grab some brewskies and they had 3 breweries sampling and one distillery. And one of the breweries hooked me up with a couple free pint vouchers for their tap room, I'll have to head over to give them their own proper yep review.

Yelp
Lyndale Liquors is the BEST neighborhood liquor store I've ever seen. They have a very vast selection of wine / beer / liquor. It's a great spot to get things for yourself - goes without saying - but it's a fantastic spot for gifts because they'll have unique wines / champagnes / scotch etc that will make a great gift. Their staff are super friendly and helpful - they clearly enjoy working there and want to help make sure you get what you want (they'll dig through the back to find what you're looking for, give you recommendations, etc). 5 starts - glad to be your neighbor SLL

De L.

Yelp
This place is STELLAR they are very good at making sure that they have the right inventory to offer you and the right possible substitute that you might like AWESOME PEOPLE AND AWESOME EXPERIENCEI very HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!
google avatar

Paul N.

Yelp
Really good liquor store with probably one of the more expansive selection of craft beers, scotch, bourbon, and rum here in the TC. The workers there are also very helpful and quite knowledgable to chat with if you need any suggestions, plus you can try a sample from any of probably 100 bottles they have open for sample (including some quite unique to rare bottles). Overall, highly recommended.

Khaldoun S.

Yelp
South Lyndale Liquors is fast becoming my go to liquor store. I first started at the big box store (Total Wine and More), but slowly was turned off with how persistent they are on selling customers specific products that benefit their profit. South Lyndale Liquors is the exact opposite of that: They really seek to help you find the spirit you are looking for rather than steering you to what benefits them. While some of the whiskey and bourbon are slightly higher priced, I'm amazed how often I do find specific spirits at a lower price than the big box stores. I also love that they often have hard to find whiskey and bourbon.

Yelp
South Lyndale Liquors is my go to liquor store. It's a hit of a drive for me, but well worth it!

Yelp
Hands down the best liquor store in the Twin Cities. Yep, I know I haven't been to every single liquor store, but this one is special. It's kind of that place where you feel like the staff are the kind of friends who give you the inside scoop on the best of everything so you feel like the cool kid on the block. Want to taste that bourbon before you buy it? Chances are they gave an open bottle for you to have a little sample. Not sure what wine to buy for that special dinner you've been planning? Bring in the menu and they will guide you through making the best selection of wine, beer, ports, liquors and after dinner drinks. This store might look small on the outside, but it has a great selection. Stop on by when you are in the neighborhood.

Scott G.

Yelp
I've always enjoyed the roomy, neighborhood feel to this establishment, as well as the helpful staff on the floor; very knowledgeable and eager to assist. I go a few miles out of my way 4-6 times/year when I buy liquor because of it. My most recent visit, mid April, I had the help I needed on the floor to find 2 items and was pleased until I encountered checkout clerk; a taller gentleman in mid to late 20s - short, abrupt, I even had to request a bag for my items and bagged them myself. It was not at all busy at the store, yet I left feeling I had done something wrong, and not knowing whether I'd return.
google avatar

Troy P.

Yelp
This is the kind of liquor store you can shop at or just pick something up. I thought other places had a good selection until I came to SLL, by far the most variety out of anywhere I've been before. Liquor, Beer or wine they have tons of choices for everything. Not only do they let you taste almost anything before you buy, but they have a rewards program to boot! Just your ID and name, no email to sign up and you get $10 for 250 points, (approximately $1 per point). I think I've found my new spot, even if I do have to drive a few extra miles.
google avatar

Kate K.

Yelp
This is a great neighborhood liquor store, and has become my go-to place in recent months. The parking lot is convenient (though tough to exit during heavy traffic), the staff is helpful, and the selection is extensive. If I'm looking for something specific I can't always find it - I really just don't understand how wines are organized within their sections - but the staff is always happy to help locate something. They do a lot of tastings, and I appreciate that customers can sample a wide variety of their liquor offerings (even though I don't regularly avail myself of this). One of my criticisms is not being able to take carts out of the store. When I'm running errands with the baby, I can't manage a 20 lb. kid and a full case of wine simultaneously. That said, staff has been happy to oblige whenever I've needed a carry-out.

Yelp
If you live in South Minneapolis and love to imbibe, you must give this place a shot! I am one to frequent other large liquor stores that have great selections, but this one is a diamond in the rough. They have a fantastic selection of beer from all over the U.S., as well as local and imported selections. I generally spend about 20 minutes minimum looking, reflecting, then deciding. Also, make sure you have an extra hand. I always walk out with more than I went for! The liquor and wine selection is large as well. They have many selections for those of all income levels. However, I will not rave as much about this as I am a beer guy. The staff is always helpful and friendly. They even have a rewards program if you like to shop often. Give it a shot! Make sure you have time to peruse the goods though. You do not want to be rushed in this gem!

Yelp
Genius beer selection. Genius wine selection. Staff is very very very helpful. Thank you for opening on Sundays.

Yelp
One of my two go to wine shops when I visit Minneapolis. Great customer service, as I ofter call over to have a particular wine I like pulled for pickup. Prices are a little higher than average, but the selection is excellent. Friendly helpful staff rounds out a good location.

Wallace O.

Yelp
Excellent pick up service, very friendly even under pressure. Efficient ordering via web site.

Yelp
One of the best selections around. Was very happy with the service. Zach was a great help! Cheers

Yelp
I used to really enjoy going out of my way to hit up this liquor store. They have tons of inventory and some unique items. Today I was treated so rudely by the jerk who checked me out that I will not return. I try to shop with smaller, local businesses and it usually feels appreciated. There were virtually no other customers in the store and he just curtly said "no carts outside". This guy seemed to get a real kick out of me struggling to carry out my large, heavy box of purchases. Nice kid at the front the door (checking people for masks, I believe) offered to help me. By then I was fuming and declined. The jerk should not be interacting with customers.

Rich P.

Yelp
Great liquor store with an amazing selection of Beer, Wine and Liquor. Great staff too! However... BEWARE of the loyalty program! Spend $300 on non-sale items and receive $10 reward. If applying your reward on a purchase, NONE of your purchase qualifies for points towards your next reward. ie... you're having a party and spend $600 on non-sale items and you apply your $10 "reward" from previous purchases. They apply your $10 "reward" towards all of that purchase. Thus, rather than receiving 2 additional $10 "rewards" for spending $600, they will apply a small credit to each $ of purchase so that all items are on sale and you receive NO LOYALTY POINTS. LESSON LEARNED: If you're involved with their loyalty program make sure you only apply your rewards towards that level of purchase. ie... spend $300, get a $10 reward, apply it towards one $10 item. Make the rest of your purchase separately. Petty??? Maybe. BUT... What good is a Loyalty Program if it off-handedly discourages LOYALTY?

Yelp
I'm not saying that I'm giving this review 5 stars because they are an extremely dog friendly establishment, but the fact that I walk my dogs here and they can weigh in* on the wine I'm buying, is a nice perk. Every time I'm here, I just have to stand in place staring at the wine on the shelf and a friendly face will show up and ask me if I have any questions. I usually just ask them to talk about their favorite wine in the vicinity while I gaze at them and bask in their wine knowledge. Basically, I buy whatever wine they put in my hands as long as it's not bazillions of dollars. Speaking of not bazillions of dollars, their wine sale is amazing. Everything is really well-priced here already, and with their wine sale, I always want to go a little crazy. Love this place. Love the big St. Bernard named Tobias. Love the people who work here. Love their wine selection. Love love love love love. *Chloe is a fan of dry chardonnays, whereas Charlie has strong preference for jammy riojas and spicy grenaches. :)
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
Loveliest liquor store. Amazing wine selection, they even carry an assortment of moderately priced petite sarah's which is hard to find. and craft & global beers. Easy to navigate and the wine section has a wine cellar feel with wooden racks. Patrons are great too, neighborhood locals and foodies. Unlike Lake Wine and Spirits on Lake Street - which is quite nice and has an adorable little cheese shop, only the neighborhood boasts fast food, weave shops, Pay Day Advance's and pre-paid phone services. I've walked out of Lake Wine and Spirits so many times feeling like I should go back in and ask for an escort. "Do you got a dollar?" "No, but I do have 1/8th a pound of Gruyere!"
google avatar

Dave R.

Yelp
A large selection of almost any type of liquor. Knowledgeable staff. Free parking w/murals. Decent prices on stuff I've never heard of. Specials. Tastings and samplings available. A small Customer Appreciation discount accumulates, and they keep track for you. A welcoming store layout: airy and easily navigable with good signage. I come here to expand my horizons and see if there's something new (to me) and tasty.

Yelp
Greatest booze store ever. I'm not one to stray far from what I like to drink, but this place makes me want to stop and look instead of just walking back and grabbing the Bud Lite Lime or Bombay Sapphire Gin. I'm a simple girl with classy taste, obviously. Also, I have never been carded here. I've been blessed (?) with forever looking a lot younger than I actually am and, although that does have it's advantages, I just hate that moment where the cashier judges/studies your license. Now that I think about it, I should probably stop being such a lazy toolbag and get a Minnesota license. I also love that this place is so close to my house. I can ride my bike to get some booze! I TOLD YOU I WAS CLASSY.
google avatar

Kohleen S.

Yelp
This place is huge, as is their selection! This is the only place in the state (that I know of) that has White Oak Rum from Trinidad :) Most of the staff is really knowledgeable, especially about their plethora of wines. There's no need to leave Fido in the car because you can shop with your pup (you'll find a dog dish by the door), and you'll often find the owner Dan's Saint Bernards moseying about the store. My only criticism is that their hours could be longer during the week--we tried stopping by one time before a party, and they were already closed at 8pm. So, check the hours before you go, but definitely check these guys out...you may discover a new drink of choice :)

Yelp
I don't mind when South Lyndale Liquors holds liquor/beer promotions and tastings because the people handing out samples are usually very low pressure but extremely knowledgeable when you ask them about their product. And hell, who doesn't like a little taste of something good while shopping? Not so much last night.... 2Gingers Whiskey was holding a tasting. While most promotions include one or two people handing out samples, this particular "event" included 10-15 women and an aggressive sales guy in a flashy suit. The women were all hanging around the registers and the tiny walkway to the beer section where I was heading. It took me a second to realize that they were all there as part of the promotion because none of them were actually buying anything. I had to sneak by one girl who was more interested in her phone than hearing my polite "excuse me". After making my selection, I was immediately poured a sample and that's when it got just plain weird. As I was tasting the concoction, the suited man made a bee line towards me and greeted me with "hey brother! How have you been?!" and gave me a fist bump as if we had met before. At that point, I knew I was in for a sales pitch and would have to ride it out because I was literally surrounded on all sides by the 2Gingers crew. After hearing about how much women love 2Gingers and how popular I would be if I bought some, I politely said no thanks and again, had to weave my way through a crowd of 2Gingers promo girls. I mentioned something like "that's quite the gauntlet they have going there" to the employee who was ringing me up. She played it off as if she was having fun but if she was, she didn't exactly look like it. I'm not sure if that promotion crew was 2Gingers doing or if it was South Lyndale that hired them to sell more booze but either way, that kind of high pressure sales tactic isn't exactly "suited" for a neighborhood type liquor store in my opinion.

Yelp
Love this liquor store. Seriously. There is a HUGE selection of beer. I think their website claims over 900 varieties, and if that doesn't draw you in they have just as much in wine and liquors! So you are overwhelmed by all this? Have no fear, for their staff is extremely knowledgable. I went up to the counter the other day asking if anyone knew their bourbons really well (backstory, I drink it, but it usually is a bottle Nic has purchased, and I was buying HIM a bottle for a present). Instantly an employee brightened up and brought me over to the bourbon section. I pointed out some that Nic had bought in the past and gave him my price range, $30-40. Within seconds, maybe even milliseconds, this employee picked out a bourbon that Nic hadn't tried and said if he likes those he'll like this, and best part you ask?! He picked out one that was $24.99! Sweet deal (which it was on sale, originally $30), but still he considered the price range I could handle, and didn't suggest the top of my range, which is always appreciated! I believe it was this same employee, I wish I knew his name, that does a lot of the tastings. This is the BEST spot to have tastings. I was trying some winter beers and whiskeys. I tried all the beers, and not only was he extremely knowledgable, but he poured a good 3-4 oz of beer for me to actually try it instead of get a little sip. It was so nice! If a tasting is not happening, don't worry, they have a wall of liquors that you can try before you buy, I'm sure they would open up a bottle if they didn't already because they want to make sure you are extremely satisfied with your purchase! They have a preferred members list, which I suggest you join if you frequent this liquor store. It's something like rack up 250 points and get $10 off. I do believe the points are just per dollar, but it really isn't that hard to spend $250 at a liquor store. I've had some really happy surprises though! All they need is your ID and they just swipe it every time you go through. If they don't have a beer or liquor that you want, they will put in a special order for you, if the company distributes to Minneapolis. Please go here if you live nearby. I would say the prices compare to most liquor stores. They definitely are not trying to rip you off here, just make sure you enjoy your night!

Yelp
SAMPLES. Yes, I am a sample junkie. But I always end up buying, so I don't feel too bad. Anyway, this place is great for a couple reasons. 1. Samples. Yes. They not only have promotions with samples/tastings, but they also have a wall of open bottles. Curious about that $60 scotch but don't want to invest and regret it? Sample. Its a genius idea. 2. Prices. Very fair. Maybe not the cheapest, but pretty close. 3. Variety. Loads of wine and whisky. Not the hugest beer selection, but they did have what I came in for. 4. Parking. The lot is decent and when it gets busy, they have someone out tending the lot, which I think is a nice detail.

Yelp
Love. This. Place. And the fact that it is moments away from our house makes it even better! Sure it may not be big and fancy, but trust me, you won't be disappointed! South Lyndale has an amazing selection of wines from around the world, as well as a great beer and liquor selection. They have a lot of their beers (and some wines) chilled already should you want to consume it quickly. You can also build your own six-pack of beer. Oh, and did I mention they have a really cool selection of ciders from around the world as well as microbrews from around the world - pretty awesome. They will also let you taste a wide selection of this liquors which is great. I mean, I think we've all bought a bottle of booze before and been disappointed! The staff here is super knowledgable and friendly, and so NOT condescending. When I went in once to buy beer for the man and, not being a connoisseur of beer, I had absolutely no clue what to get. My instructions were to "buy something fun." So, I asked the guy what he liked and he recommended a few different ones and explained why he liked them. I picked one of those, and it went over very well with the hubs - success! They also have a-may-zing wine sales. I mean, you really can't beat the prices. Their regular prices are good and their sale prices are even better. They always have some bottles on sale but during their big sales it seems like almost everything is on sale! South Lyndale also hosts some pretty amazing wine classes/tastings We just went to our first class and already are looking forward to the next one! We were able to go to a South American wine tasting (for a mere $10 per person might I add!) We tried 12, count 'em, 12 different wines! The first 7 were all from the same producer and we were even able to Skype with the producer all the way from Uruguay. Super cool and we got introduced to Uruguayan wine - which I didn't even know existed before this! All in all, get here, take a special trip here, even if you don't live nearby. It is well worth your time!

Yelp
South Lyndale Liquors has the biggest variety of wine you've never even heard of, flavored bitters you didn't even realize you needed and scotch that you'll never dream of affording. It's truly impressive how much they fit into this store and how unique the offerings are. This is the perfect place to walk in without any idea and come out with something surprising and delicious. I love the amount of opportunities they give to try before you buy. There's usually a sample bottle and some cups around featured products and they have lots of wine and beer tastings. Definitely join their loyalty club, every $250 spent on non-sale items amounts to $10 off. The parking lot is truly something disastrous, park on the street and walk if you can.

Yelp
Jerks. I recently went here to stock up for a party and spent over $200. Obviously too much for one person to carry out to the car so I started walking out the door with my cart and got yelled at by two staff members saying that was not allowed. Neither of which asked if they could help me carry anything out. So I asked if I could make two trips, after being scoffed at, they agreed. Two minutes later I walked back into the store to find they returned three bottles back to the shelves saying they thought someone forgot them. I usually try to support local business but they made it really easy to switch to Total Wine.

Yelp
After spending many years and thousands of dollars here, their continued poor customer service at check out reached the point that I will never shop there again. I've endured their ungrateful behavior in the past. But tonight, after unloading my cart and waiting 15 minutes for the cashier to check out a single bottle customer, I was told her register had frozen. She just sat there looking at me to move on. Someone finally came by and said all the registers were busy and offered no help. I left my purchases and walked out disgusted for the final time. Is customer service and appreciation dead?

Yelp
I love the evolution of South Lyndale! As someone who enjoys the malted hops, I love the new focus on micros and imports. I can find my favorite brews at any time, and the dogs always put a smile on my face. The wine selection is fantastic and they always have great specials. I have been able to get Nordeast, Surly Darkness (or any of the Surly brews, my favs), the Red Truck mini barrels for the wife, and pretty much anything else that I am in teh mood for. I love having a great booze stop just minutes away. Trust me, they deserve your business!

Yelp
I can't help getting the familiar welcome feeling when I walk in the door here. I walk in the door at least once a week (yeah, I might be an alchy). It reminds me of the scene in Mallrats when Brody and T.S. go to the dirt mall to lay low when they're running from the cops: Brody - 'Hey Walt!' Walt- 'BRODY!' Brody to T.S. - 'See, they know me here!' Then the duo goes on to receive some topless fortune telling. Anyway, for those of you who don't know the scene in Mallrats I speak of, just think of Norm and Cheers. If you can't recall that reference, well, I can't help you. Go buy a television. SLL probably has the best beer selection in the Cities. I especially appreciate their attention to detail with their micro brews. Warm or cold, I can always find what I'm looking for. Their liquor collection is also extensive, with a highlight on the whiskeys. I am a scotch and bourbon drinker and love, love, LOVE the fact that you can sample from open bottles before you purchase. This is not something most liquor stores offer. Finally, their wine selection is above average (it's no Surdyk's) but if you can't find a bottle you're looking for, chances are they'll find it for you as their employees are some of the nicest, and most knowledgeable, around. They aren't the cheapest, but they definitely aren't the most expensive either. SLL is my liquor store and love the fact it's right in the 'hood. Oh, and they're pet friendly. So don't feel the need to leave Fido to bake in the car on the hot summer days. Bring him in the store with you!

Yelp
Best liquor store in Minneapolis! Huge selection and always have great sales going on. For someone who sticks to their usual booze routine - I find it hard not to choose something new to try every time I go.
