First time here. We arrived around 2pm on a Sunday and it started getting busy after we arrived. It is a pleasant atmosphere. It has nice decor and while it is an old building, the interior is modern. They have several beers on tap including a sour beer. The pizza comes in one size. My son had the pepperoni and olive while we had the G.O.A.T. Pizzas can range from $18-$20. The pizzas were good. We would come back again.

What a jewel inside of a Middletown America type vibe city. This place had some of the best pizza I have ever had in my life! And I’ve had a lot of good pizza. It has some really good brews as well. I had the pepperoni pizza, an Irish red ale, a Mexican lager, and a Michelada. Only drawback that I could say was that they don’t allow you to alter the pizza. They allow you to take away something that’s on it, but they don’t allow you to add anything to it. If you ever find yourself in the middle of nowhere, Fresno, you have to check this place out. You will thank me later.

Good place to have a beer and hang out with friends. Located in a part of town that I never visit but I think I would come back. The different beers is something a big drinker would enjoy. I know that people that I was with enjoyed the beers. I on the other hand enjoyed the food. The pizzas were very good. I had the Lumberjack pizza, pickle pizza, and a simple pepperoni pizza. The pizzas tasted like it could’ve been prepared in a brick oven. I definitely would take these pizzas over Pieology or Blaze. The pizzas I would compare it to was Mod Pizza who sadly closed due to prevailing minimum wage issues. I would recommend if you want to go and hang out, have a few beers, and eat some good unhealthy food.

Google
Awesome brewery , great staff , just not my kind of pizza . Great setting in Downtown Fresno. Ordered the Cheesy Garlic Focaccia and pub pretzel as an appetizer and the Classic Margherita, Pepperoni, and Pepperoni & Olive pizza The apps were middle of the road , pretzel had a good taste . I came for the pizza and overall gave a 5.4 for all three pies. The chassis was very doughy and had massive Fresno Flop . Taste was pretty good, but definitely not what I was hoping for. Again, great staff and looked like a good place to have a frosty beer, just not a great pie..

Google
I recently popped into this brewery and I was happy I did. The service was awesome and the venue itself was great. Very clean and inviting. The staff was very friendly and they had awesome beer and pizza options. They had an awesome patio space, bar top and lounge area to hangout at. Definitely a cool spot to post up at with your laptop or to hang at the bar enjoying a brew. I’ll definitely be back to try the rest of their pizza and brew options bc everything I tried was awesome.

Came to Fresno for a concert and decided to pre-game at South and Shaw(among other places). Nice, clean brewery with solid beer and good food.

Google
Pizza gods live here. Best pizza in Fresno. If you doubt me, come check out their crust. It's amazing. And the beer... Omg. All hail.

My favorite place for pizza and beer ! Loved the rustica pizza but recently tried THE GOAT pizza and oh my I am in love! Pizza and a beer called God Save The King English ale, talk about a perfect date night ! Chefs kiss Service and vibes are immaculate

Yelp
What a great addition to downtown Fresno! Delicious beers and great pizza! Lots of seating inside and outside. Parking is easy as well- street parking. The staff was friendly and accommodating to us trying some beer before buying. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
We've never been to this area of California before and were looking for some place for dinner. We did bring kids, and didn't feel the most welcome but no one was rude or anything. Just not the friendliest vibe. But it was ok. The pizza was delicious and came out fairly quickly. I only tried the bacon & jalapeño but since we didn't leave with any leftovers I'm guessing the rest was good as well. The pizza could have been cooked a tad longer as the bottom crust wasn't as done as I'd prefer. Would definitely come back again if we were ever in the area.

Yelp
What's not to love? They have delicious pizza. The beer is amazing. The Michelada with a flying Chancla is perfection. I also love when they have karaoke night and if you decide to go next-door, you can have your pizza there too. Service is wonderful. The staff is cool, friendly and put out great vibes.

Yelp
I've been here about five times now and I still can't believe I haven't written a review! The main focus of this spot is beer, but their pizza is on another level. My favorite pizzas here are the pickle pizza, hot honey chicken, and the fig and prosciutto pizza. All of their pies are 6-slices and perfect for sharing or a large solo meal. The pickle pizza is made with a white sauce, cheddar cheese, and dill pickle chips. Pickle lovers, this one for you! My go to used to be IPAs, but these days their lager beers or the Flying Chancla, mexican cerveza is my go to. This beer is light and pairs perfectly with any slice of pizza or one of their pub pretzels. It's mostly indoor seating, but do they have a small outdoor patio for sipping. If you visit during the week, there's a good chance you'll be able to join their trivia night. I love that there's tons of free parking. It's all street parking, but it's free!

Yelp
Always a great time. Then again, if I'm with my baby, I'm having the time of my life! Yea, I'm in love. Sue me! Pizzas are awesome, bathrooms are clean, service is excellent and swift!

Yelp
A great place to catch up with friends!!! Came here on a Thursday night and loved the environment! It was bustling and had great energy. There is plenty of seating but on this particular day it was pretty full! Service was efficient. I know this place is probably known for its beers but I only had their pizza! My friends have RAVED about South of Shaw's pizzas so I knew I had to try it! I wasn't disappointed. Their pizza was delish. I got the Soppressata & Hot Honey and I really enjoyed it. I think the crust had a perfect bite, the Soppressata was good, and I'm a sucker for hot honey on pizza. I would def get this again. I also tried my friend's favorite pizza which is the Fig Jam & Prosciutto pizza and it was also very yum. I would definitely come again!

Yelp
Great beer options and fun appetizer menu. Pickle pizza is really great if you are daring; fig and arugula pizza is amazing.

Yelp
1/07/24 Heard Great things & definitely a must try! Getting lunch! I ordered a Hot Honey Chicken pizza online, from their website! Convenience! Arrived to pick it up and greeted! Such a Great bar and environment! Love! Music playing too. Order was ready and handed over. I also asked the worker for Parmesan and crushed peppers. He had no problem getting me those and handed it over with good day wishes! Great! Lunchtime! Hot Honey Chicken pizza is DELICIOUS! Flavorful! Cheesy too! You get a small hint of the honey. Not too much. Little spice. Even better with crushed peppers to add more spicy kick! Plus, it's a good amount! Lots of leftovers! Great service & GREAT Hot Honey Pizza! Highly recommended!

Yelp
The best pizza in town, every time I try a new pizza place I compared it to South of Shaw. Currently my new favorite pizza place. I will suggest you preorder pizza online if you're going on a Friday or Saturday night. I went one Friday night only for them to run out of pizza, I was super disappointed because I was craving for their pizza that whole week. Also, on busy night you can potentially wait up to an hour for your pizza, which is why I personally think if you are going on a Friday or Saturday night to pre order your pizza so wait isn't as long. Also they have good beer, they currently have a new flavor out called Million of Peaches and it's also my current favorite beer. They also have guest beers from other countries and brewery which is also nice.

Yelp
Thank you for an amazing evening of fantastic food and Delicious beer! The books and games available create an openly creative space where it's easy to play and be yourself. The beautiful ladies behind the bar helped us find the right flavor to go with how we are feeling tonight. Everything is clean, the air and food fresh. Don't miss out of this gem

Yelp
I was passing through Fresno and decided to stop here for a quick bite. I had a few beers, so this review is solely focused on the pizza and beer. It was absolutely incredible! The pizza was bursting with flavor and the perfect size. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. It's definitely one of the best pizzas I've ever had. If I ever find myself passing through Fresno again, I'll definitely make sure to stop by for their pizza once more.

Yelp
We came on a Thursday around 5pm, and it was pretty packed! As a party of four, we found seats at the bar. The beer on tap was pretty good-- very refreshing! The pizza was a miss for me. My fiancée and I ordered the Soppressata & Hot Honey. The crust seemed a bit burnt and the pizza wasn't anything too exciting. I felt like the pizza was a flop, it literally flopped, the bottom was soggy. For the price of the pizza, I expected it be better. Maybe I'd try a different food item other than pizza if I happen to come back...

Yelp
South of Shaw is a perfect date night bar!Their pizzas are a good size for a snack to share or a light meal. We ordered the hot honey chicken which had the perfect touch of sweet to balance out the salty (our favorite) and the fig jam & prosciutto. My only suggestions are to get that bottom crust a little more crusty and spread out the toppings more so the crust isn't so wide. Either way, this place is a good time and would definitely pay them a second visit!
google avatar

Yelp
I love pizza and I am always looking for places that have the best. I have been to south of Shaw three times and all three times were consistent. Friendly greeting as you walk in, tables were cleaned off quickly as people left so the place looked nice as you walk in. When I ordered a drink, the server was knowledgeable with descriptions of the beers and cheerily recommended one for me. They have a great selection of wood brick pizzas. Surprisingly they come out quickly and every pizza I ordered was nicely done. If you like a great pizza come try south of Shaw! I'll be back.

Yelp
We've eaten here at least half a dozen times now and it's become our new go-to pizza place but I still haven't gotten a photo of the pizza because we immediately start to stuff our faces and forget to take pics. So I only got a photo of our beers. This is a fun place near downtown with friendly service and a typical brewpub vibe with brick and stainless steel. There's also some outdoor seating (tables with umbrellas). It's always lively but also relaxed and very casual. It tends to be a little loud but not overly so. We've had many pizzas including the fig pizza (good but a little too sweet for me) and the pickle pizza (I wasn't expecting to like it but it was delicious). My favorites are the more standard ones like the margherita and the "lumberjack" (sausage and mushroom). The crust is the definite star of the pizza -- the perfect chewy / crispy combination. I enjoy their IPAs and also their (lighter) "flying chancla" beer. My husband has enjoyed all the beers he's tried too. If you enjoy pizza and beer AT ALL, you should definitely go.
google avatar

Kathy P.

Yelp
I tried two different flavors of beer: The Flying Chincla, a Mexican beer and Pacific Pineapple Cider, a sweet cider. Loved them both! The pizza is delicious! They had pepperoni, mushroom, burrata and one with honey. Delicioso! It was a relaxed time hanging out in a lovely spring evening enjoying beer and socializing. The bartender was great. He let us sample beers to make sure we got what we wanted. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Came for a paint night event. We tried the September Special Pizza called Oktoberfest Sausage & Onion (ricotta sauce, topped with gooey mozzarella, juicy sausage, yellow onions, and finished with a drizzle of Hagman's mustard sauce) it was delicious but they could use a bit more pepperoni in my opinion. Can't recall which drink it was either the Wycliff But Champagne or Wycliff Sparkling Rose. It looked like a rose color and it was sweet and tasted good. Sparkling tea & lemonade the taste was subtle, it was alright not a big fan. Service was great and a nice corner place with good atmosphere. The instructor that was doing the event had a great playlist. Plenty of street parking.

Yelp
I'm sure the beer is great but the pizza is what we come for, 10/10! Actively trying to get lunch/dinner plans to switch to here so I can come more!

Helen B.

Yelp
Limited selection of food. But taste great. Beer was good also. Service is absolutely needing attention. There was one person behind the counter, absolutely no personality, almost makes it's awkward. Long hair kind of antisocial looking fella. He kept running his hands through his hair which was sort of un appetizing. When you're going to greet people and make people feel welcomed, you need to put someone who is more hospitable. I'm all about supporting local businesses, but I can't say that I would be returning anytime soon.

Yelp
We stopped here on our way home friend our first fishing trip of the year... late night dinner. Great place. Pizza was delicious and the beer was good. Great ambience. Good and fast service. Definitely coming back !

Yelp
This was our first visit to South of Shaw Beer Company. The inside is decorated really nice with a beautiful large bar and a bunch of tables all around. Our bartenders were both super friendly and helpful. We ordered a beer flight to give all of their beers a try. We are IPA people so we weren't too excited about the beer menu as there were only 2 IPA options. With that being said, the IPAs were very good! We ordered 2 pizzas and they were delicious. The crust was awesome and the toppings were perfect. The only bummer is they don't have anything other than pizza and 2 "bready"(focaccia or a pretzel) appetizers. I would have loved to have an option for a salad. The pizzas are bigger than personal size but really not enough for two hungry people so we ended up with 2 and then had leftovers. Would love to see other food options to pair with the pizza like salad or even wings! Other than that, we really enjoyed our evening! They do have board games to play and some outside seating.
google avatar

Jennafer F.

Yelp
Pros: it's very clean. They had games available for people to hang out and play. It's defin a cool vibe that makes you feel like you're not in Fresno for a moment. The food came out quickly. The cheese pull on the pizza was ridiculous in a good way;) the crust was good . Was the ranch homemade cus it was great! Love that you can see the brewing process so close. Very quiet outside. Cons: the pickle pizza was good but very salty probably best with a beer. And better with the ranch. Want us to bring dirty dishes/glasses inside ... sorta struggled with the door and the dishes. Paper plates for dine in is always an ick. Especially cus This place is cool. -- would come again. But not get pickle Pizza. But glad we checked it off our food bucket list
google avatar

Aimee B.

Yelp
This is our second time coming here and we brought some friends with us because of how much we liked the pizza last time we were here. Also, the service has always been pretty fast. Only downfall is that it's a small space and gets super busy especially after 6pm so we started off squished at the end of the bar and then moved to a table when it cleared. Wish they'd expand to be able to serve the crowds that they get!
google avatar

Isabella D.

Yelp
I hardly ever go to Downtown Fresno, but I was down here to ice skate and my family stopped by this place. It was super cute & clean inside with great and unique pizzas. If you're ever in the area, give it a try.
google avatar

Daisee F.

Yelp
My favorite pizza in Fresno! The chicken bacon ranch and Margherita pizzas are so good. There's always a good beer selection. Also their micheladas are the best!
google avatar

Marcella T.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try the pizza from South of Shaw Beer for awhile now and placed an online order for a margherita and pepperoni pizza. Visually the pizza looked delicious! I was a bit disappointed with the taste though. The crust was too chewy for my liking and was kinda bland
google avatar

Julianne G.

Yelp
Great place downtown for a beer and some awesome pizza. The pizza they serve here is probably my favorite in all of fresno as far as the crust. Soft and chewey at the same time. This brewery has a selection of beer and ciders and even has champagne on the menu. Cute building downtown. Artsy ambiance, great vibe. One of my husband's and I favorite date night places!
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
Been here a handful of times and am never disappointed. One of the coolest places fresno has to offer. Beer is good and the pizza is amazing! They also offer other appetizers, non alcoholic drinks and wine. The staff is always great and we never have to wait very long for freshly made pizza. One of the best things about this spot is they do trivia nights, bingo and karaoke. Great date night spot. I will say it's best to bring cash because they do hold charges on your credit card. Other than that this place is a 10/10!
google avatar

Wellington C.

Yelp
Not knowing what the food scene is in Fresno, i came here with a few folks to just hang out. Luckily that particular night was trivia night so it was actually a pretty lively crowd that day. Overall the beer and pizza at this place is pretty decent and the staff was friendly and lively throughout the night. Compared to the other joins i visited during my short trip, i would say this place was probably the better one out of all the other establishments.
google avatar

Matt V.

Yelp
South of Shaw is a nice cozy brewpub in downtown Fresno located next to a lot of newer built condos. From the white tile tap backsplash to the really cool zen like glass table the Ambiance is very aesthetically pleasing. The wait staff are always very nice and accommodating and really put the customer first. On top of the awesome ambiance and service the pizza is so good, we usually get the pickle pizza which sounds odd until you try and realize they make it work seamlessly. We also enjoy their steam beer, God save the king, which is a solid British pale! They also feature art work from the monthly art hop in downtown Fresno on their walls, as well as a pretty cool women's Stein holding state champion banner!
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
Wow! This place ROCKS and so does the amazing bar staff, kitchen and yes, their CELEBRITY DJ-BOOMERANG! First, Luke greeted us like we were family; that's 5/5 stars. Next, Cassie happily customized our pizza order but that's not their policy, so if you're super nice, you might get lucky. (As Clint Eastwood said, "Well, do ya feel lucky punk?" Easy 5/5 stars for Cassie. Vibe and music; Tom Petty, Eagles, a little Garth to change things up a bit then back to Seager and an AC/DC send-off from the Boomerang. He's not only playing vinyl, you can buy vinyl here! That's 5/5 stars, dah! Pizza and beer also earned 5 stars so what's not to love about this place?!?

Ed L.

Yelp
Pros: Good food. Good service. Neat and clean dinning area. Price was decent for food portion size. Cons: None.
google avatar

Jamie W.

Yelp
I am not a fan of downtown Fresno but I was very curious to try the craft beers and unique pizzas I had heard about on FB. So glad I gave this place a try! The beer is great and and made on-site which you can see in the back of the bar. It is kept very clean the staff is friendly and helpful when trying to decide what to order. The pizza is light and crisp and leaves you wanting to come back to try other creations! Thanks for making me want to come downtown South of Shaw!!
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
The pizza is so good especially the pickled one! Drinks, karaoke, and friendly people!
google avatar

Terry C.

Yelp
I haven't been but my daughter recommended it. They also have trivia nights. She said the pizza was pretty good. And as she was raised in Chicago suburbs, we are both very critical about pizza. The only good pizza I've had in Fresno are the ones we've ordered from Lou Malnatti's in Chicago - shipped frozen in dry ice. Will definitely try South if Shaw!!

Yelp
We were going out for pizza and beer on Friday, that much was certain. I was told we were going to Me and Ed's, which I was fine with. While some people are getting tired of going there, I still prefer it over most other pizza joints. But a friend had been hyping South of Shaw all week, a friend who isn't even from Fresno. I'm always down to try a new spot, so I was good with the idea. We're just down the street and head on over. There are 8 of us, but somehow we timed it just right as another group had just left and just took their spot over. We might have left otherwise, it was WAY too cold to eat outside. Quick look at the menu and the Hot Honey Chicken has my eye, as does the Pickle Pizza, and I'm crazy enough to do it. Everyone is kind of lingering, so I make the first move to the counter to order. The beers are a disappointment as far as I'm concerned, but the Flying Chankla Miche at least looks interesting. So I order the Flying Chankla. That's where I made a mistake. You see, the Flying Chankla is not the Flying Chankla Michel. I just thought it was understood. So when I see my beer, I'm like, wth?! Not one too complain about a free meal, I take it and go sit. My fellow beer fanatic got the porter, but I could tell he was more disappointed in the offerings than I was. I did end up going to Maroa Shell after I left and buying a 2-pack and a 4-pack for just over $40 cause I was really in the mood for a really good beer. Back to the pizza, my Hot Honey Chicken was one of the first to come out, and everyone agreed it was very good. For me it was a tie between it and the Fig Jam & Prociutto that were my favorites. 2 guys each ended up ordering one to go for their wives. I'm not normally a fan of figs, there was just something about the texture of the bite that I really enjoyed. My least favorite pizza was easily the Bacon and Jalapeño. It's pretty well established that spicy and I don't get along, but I at least was willing to try it. The other one I tried was the Pineapple, and it was ok. Our friend did say the Lumberjack was good, but nobody at my end of the table ordered it. The guy next to me got the Pepperoni and Olives, but you can literally order that anywhere. Plus after 4 slices, I was full! All in all, I would love to bring my family back. 3 pizzas between the 5 of us would be plenty, and I'm trying the Pickle Pizza when I return
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
I'm new to Fresno and hadn't found decent pizza place.....until this spot. The pizza is a 10/10 every single time! Great atmosphere and friendly staff.
google avatar

Jim N.

Yelp
Excellent service, bet, pizza, environment.... Except how do they not have window shades for afternoon sun on windows that face west. Tables and bar experience would be significantly enhanced.
google avatar

Blue W.

Yelp
I feel like the pizza went a little downhill from when they first opened. We don't go anymore because the quality and taste is just not worth the price. Cool spot to hang at sometimes but not a go-to anymore, unfortunately.

Yelp
I found out about this gem through a very generous Yelp perk last year that gave us one free pizza and one free beer. We got the Montagno de Carne which is the mountain of meat pizza and were so blown away, we bought a 2nd pizza, the pickle pizza. And if you love pickles you would love this pizza. We also came on my husband's birthday last year and had the sauerkraut pizza and loved it. We returned again for my husband's birthday this year because he loves their pizza and beer. My review was originally 5 stars, but due a few things, it has lost a star. 1st, they discontinued the mountain of meat pizza which was my favorite. I don't come as much because their pizzas are pricey, but sad they didn't have it this go rounf. How do they have a vegan pizza, but not an all meat pizza! 2nd, We've come a few times before and they've always brought drinks to our table. I ordered 2 sodas and 2 beers along with our 3 pizzas and paid a 15% tip of almost $11 which made my total come to almost $90 for 3 pizzas, 2 beers and 2 cokes as a treat for my husband. I have a sprained ankle and am currently in a boot and felt that it was insensitive to make me take my drinks and cups of ice to my table. My sprained ankle has not only affected me physically, but emotionally as well. I was annoyed and got snappy at my husband for not helping, but when I talked to my coworker who came a few days ago, she said her family were served their drinks at their table. My husband really loves their beers, especially the seasonal ones and I like their flying chancla so we will return, just not as often because this is a splurge place $90 is a lot and I love their pickle pizza. Crust was a little undercooked this time around for me. I liked the chicken Bacon ranch and knew I liked the pickle pizza, I hated their lumberjack, it just felt undercooked to me. I was also sad that they put away the Oktoberfest decorations. I guess I will have to follow them more often. Hopefully the next time we go, it is a better experience and I will be healed from this injury to that has turned me into a sour puss.

Yelp
So far a great place for pizza. The customer service is nice and the beer is good. I had a Margherita pizza. There are no options to customize. Simple. It's good and flavorful. Seems like a really nice community of people. One night I was here for trivia night. The music isn't too loud. The people here are friendly, I will continue to come back.

Yelp
Randomly gave a try and was so very pleasantly impressed. Great location, I love that you can take it to go and sit outside while having a glass of wine from next door. Such a cozy vibe. Pizza was *chefs kiss*, perfect size to share with a friend! Loved the dough, loved the chicken, loved everything about it. Staff is so cool and helpful, they even brought out our to go pizza to us to outside tables. Didn't try the beer but definitely will in the future. Can't wait to be back!

Tony H.

Yelp
Service was great and the staff were very friendly. And plenty of Seating. The only drawback was the pizza needed to be cooked a little longer.

Brittney S.

Yelp
Pizza is great and it's a fun atmosphere. Went on a Friday night and we were still able to get a table outside and enjoy the fresh air

Isela G.

Yelp
LOVE THE ENVIRONMENT, great vibes, amazing micheladas!!! Service was amazing, lots of smiles :)

Yelp
Amazing customer service and decent seating inside. They do games. Etc. the beer selection is great Customer Service is great Cool hangout spot
