"South Philly Smokhaus, a barbecue restaurant, opened less than a year ago in the Bok building, a trendy studio, restaurant, and retail space. It was set up by Eric Daelhousen and offered brisket, short ribs, St. Louis-style spare ribs, smoked chicken wings, and pulled pork. The restaurant took a summer break in August and announced it would not be reopening. The closure also impacted a butcher counter set up by Robert Passio of Giunta’s Prime, which was under the Smokhaus licenses." - Rachel Vigoda

Fantastic BBQ done the right way. I loved the pork and beef ribs and the brisket was on point. The sides are money too. Will be back- these guys are doing great things for bbq in philly. Well done. Also the owner is the man.

Being from Texas, I have VERY high standards for all barbecue. In ten years in Philly, I've never found barbecue that met my standards (especially in brisket), but now I have. South Philly Smokhaus is incredible. Unlike any other smoked meat in the city. Check it out.

Delicious burnt end sandwich. The chicken is moist and tender

We love this place. My husband and I were incredibly impressed by our first visit, and now have been back again and again to taste everything on the menu. The way they smoke and season their meats makes this my favorite BBQ I've ever had. Personal picks would be short ribs, spare ribs, chicken wings and quarters, and if you see them on special - the pork belly burnt ends! Husband love the brisket and BLT. Sides also rule - jalapeno poppers, collard greens, baked beans. Honestly, everything is excellent. They do sell out early often - but I have no problem with this and expect it with all good BBQ. (It takes a full day or more to smoke meat!) Go for lunch, or just call ahead when you go for dinner to see what they have left. Staff is always super friendly and helpful.

We got a whole lot of different kinds of meats, and it was all amazing. The brisket mac n cheese was phenomenal. They also have fresh cold meat for sale that you can take home. A little hard to find if you don't know what you're looking for. It should also be noted that the whole dining room has a wall of windows looking out into the street.

We had to have gotten them on an off-day. The wings were not cleaned, I mean the feathers were still on them and greasy feathers were all through the container (we had delivery). We got no bread and the sauce was not very good. We were unable to contact the restaraunt to ask about a refund (they either closed or it seems like they were avoiding us). I hate throwing away 13$ worth of food but it was seriously disgusting. The lack of customer service was upsetting and disappointing. I would highly suggest you avoid this place.

Note to Ernesto Migali below- I’ve been 3 times before 7pm (they close at 9). Driven 15 minutes each time. This is worth complaining about glad you liked it but my experience has been poor......tried to visit this ‘place’ multiple times. already out of food when we get there or they just close early without notice. It’s 6:45 on a Saturday night yet they have no food....again. Unprofessional. Waste of time. Good luck investing time and energy getting there for nothing. I won’t be making another attempt.
