Google
Been there many times for breakfast but first time for dinner. Early bird specials are great; soup or salad, entree, dessert. With drink expect to pay around $42 for two. We always tip $10. But plenty of food to take home for the next day. Wife got Turkey Dinner w/stuffing and cranberry sauce. I got the new Meatloaf Leonardo Parmigiana and was pleasantly surprised! Great flavor. Service is wonderful and a nice place to eat out!

Google
Went for breakfast with a good friend. I ordered the tropical pancakes, and she ordered the turkey, pastrami, and cheese with Russia dressing. The food was absolutely right on point. Everything was delicious. Our server was excellent, and there whenever we needed her. All in all, it was a great dining experience. If you're in the area, you have to check this place out.

Google
The South Star Diner has been my Sunday morning breakfast stop since kitchen 87 closed. Staff is friendly and attentive. I had the #5 Breakfast special. Country fried steak with sausage gravy, eggs . Home fries, toast, coffee and juice. Everything was delicious and served with a smile. I will be returning.

Google
Classic Diner. Been going here for a decade plus. Good service, good food, good prices. Honey Glazed Chicken and Waffles are excellent! Still going here. Same great service as always.

Google
I have been here a few times before and this was by far the best visit yet! Great waitress, amazing food (that I actually ate the next day instead of throwing it out), and very clean as well. The waitress was kind and attentive as well as quick with requests. The food I got was mozzarella sticks - perfect crunch and soo melty in the cheese yum - and an omelette that was perfectly balanced with cheese, peppers, and onions with a side of super yummy hash browns- crispy without being burnt. It all reheated very well. The atmosphere was very relaxing and made me feel like I was at a diner in the movies. Can't quite explain it. I cannot wait to go back- I've also had their French onion soup and boy howdy that's great! I like a lot of cheese and they deliver with such a savory soup and the bread was the perfect thickness.

Google
An excellent experience... the staff was extremely friendly and the food was pretty good! 😋👍

Google
Had waffle with strawberries, scrapple, grits, fresh fruit and coffee. Everything was delicious, served hot, and large portions. I had to remind my waitress about the grits, but otherwise the wait service was good. I sat in a booth, which was fine until the person who sat behind me was heavy when they sat down and my back became bouncy. Overall, I would highly recommend this place!

Google
Omelets are good, and i like that there's an option between hash browns and home fries. I stay clear of the bacon because its never fresh. It's like chewing leather. Also the sausage is very sweet tasting. Not a fan of it. Coffee cups are very small but they do provide a croft of coffee

Yelp
Great omelet and tasty home fries, made exactly like I requested! Terrific service and fresh coffee! Great way to start the day! Grits, perfect!

Yelp
I was headed to my friend's home in Mt Holly and needed to eat. Ahhh good ol NJ diners! LOVE THEM! I got a Caesar with added rare steak. Soup came with - my cup of Chicken Pastina was very good and tasty. The salad was pretty good but the steak needed more flavor. The 1000 Island didn't taste homemade like at most other places I dine. They had a decent crowd for a Wednesday night. Their dessert case looked amazing and I heard two tables ordering cake and Oreo cheesecake!!! I hit the bathroom before heading out. Nice decor but dirty and a fly was hovering around. Sweet server named Emma was probably the highlight . One and done for me - sorry.

Yelp
I've said before on of the best thing about NJ are the diners! I was super excited to find one close to my hotel that had 4.5 stars. . .and that's where it ended. Since I had already driven 3.5 hours, I scheduled a to go order for the best seller homemade meatloaf with brown gravy using Yelp. Seemed easy enough. Just had to select salad, sides, and dessert. I chose Caesar salad, corn & sautéd green beans, and upgraded to cheesecake. Dessert puddings are included with meal price. It was great that the order was ready at the time I selected even though Yelp shows a window. Loves to see the classic diner booths and barstools. Host was at the desk to offer help. I was so tired I grabbed my bag and headed to the hotel. That was a mistake . . . Pro tip: ***CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE LEAVING*** I didn't get napkins, plastic ware, or GRAVY!! How was I supposed to eat meatloaf without gravy or utensils?? It was even noted on the receipt attached to the bag. Thank goodness I keep a spare in my travel bag. Overall, food was ok. Prices were reasonable based on portions. Disappointed mash potatoes weren't a side option just baked potato. Also didn't like that everything was packed separate. Gravy may have made the meal. Maybe it's better for dine-in. If I'm back in town I may try breakfast since they're open 24 hours.

Yelp
Tonight my husband and I came for a bite to eat. We ate earlier but at an Odd time. So we were hungry again by 7:30--8:30pm. We both ordered the turkey club sandwich and it comes with fries. It was delicious and perfectly hit the spot. The place is always spotless and freshly swept. Barbara and Miranda took care of us and they're amazing. We missed Tori (Victoria) and came too late but she is THE G. O. A. T. (Greatest of All Time) but by I digress. Their Early bird menu is Amazing and Has a Ton of choices from soup to nuts and great prices and Spectacular desserts. Great service and super nice people. We always seem to meet nice people dining in and the staff are All very nice and professional. See you soon!

Yelp
Hard to rate south star. I think I'd give it another star for value. Most recently I had the French onion soup. It was good not great. But once again the value is there. I also tried the beef gyro. The lettuce and toppings were fresh the beef was good. (No lamb) the taziki tasted more like ranch. I love the dill in taziki I didn't taste much of that. The breakfast is perfect they prepare your eggs perfectly. The sausage or bacon is actually pretty good. Coffee is great. Good value lots of food. Oh you get streak fries I like shoestring but that's just my preference. Ultimately I think for breakfast and lunch this is a good value. The dinners not so sure depends on what you order.

Yelp
We stopped in to have dessert with Grandma. We were a bigger party, but they were able to get us in and seated without any hassles at all. The waitress and the owner were very friendly. He's American but is of Turkish descent, so he brings some interesting perspective, and he's pretty solid about service. They really engage the customers well. Classic diner feel and good food. The food was delicious. It was a good time.

Yelp
Friendly staff :) Great early bird special ! I loved the bread basket, fried zucchini, and carrot cheesecake.

Yelp
we returned today, and it was a great diner breakfast! Our server was super pleasant and friendly, brought coffee right away, and explained that she would be right back. We made our selections, jersey omelet for me, the 2x2x2 for him(his usual) . My jersey had asparagus tomato bacon and cheese, so good. His huge pancakes could have been a little more done, but they were delicious. The toast was dry-as requested- really harder to get than you'd think, lol. It was pretty crowded but efficiently managed. we'll be back!

Yelp
Been visiting this diner (yes a proper 24 hour diner!) for several years consistently. Depending on what hour you show up you'll get a different menu for breakfast, mid day and dinner. So if you want breakfast after 11 am just ask for the breakfast menu and if you're a shift worker off at 7 go ahead and ask for the dinner menu. I have not been disappointed except once when the poached eggs on the Benedict were cooked hard. But poached -not over easy like most restaurants do. The service is a fun bunch at all hours. You'll feel the love. The bathrooms were recently redone and are heated cooled compared to most diner car bathrooms. The outside is a bit rough but it's classic diner inside.

Yelp
Great food! Quick and attentive service. Very accommodating for our toddler. Down to earth vibe. Thank you!
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
Food is always great , good prices. Just I think there is a misunderstanding on their menu and the worker called me and seemed very annoyed that I asked for coffee with my entree, and then told me it's going to be charged extra. It literally says on the menu on door dash that it comes with a coffee lol. So they need to change that and fix it. Other than that place is always good.

Yelp
We had a great breakfast this morning before we hit the slopes . Oscar Benedit yummy . Our server seza was wonderful.
google avatar

Lydia M.

Yelp
Lots of variety of food, especially for kinds of omelettes, but my Omelette was pretty bland. I got the cream cheese omelette and added broccoli. The coffee was good though! Ambiance was also fine, typical diner feel. Our waitress was not very friendly. She barely smiled at us and did not seem happy to be there. I would eat here again, just wouldn't be my first choice.

Chris C.

Yelp
another hidden gem in the Mount Holly area! if you're looking for the perfect diner experience going no further. Friendly staff, good food, huge portions, needless to say I'll be coming back!

Carl J.

Yelp
Went for dinner and it was ok.... I had 1/2 roast chicken with lemon gravy. Gravy was very tasty, chicken was so so. Not sure how it was cooked but skin wasn't crispy. Chicken noodle soup was very good. Sting beans fine and tasty. Wife's fish and chips, not so good. Was definitely frozen fish out of box, no beer battered fish here (go to other diner east of here for that.). The fries were small and mostly pieces, not very good. IF, we come back she won't get this again. Service was fine. Ambiance.... Eh.

Charlie A.

Yelp
This is a great example of a New Jersey diner Everything on the menu is designed delicious and abundant.

Gw B.

Yelp
Outstanding! Have yet to get a bad meal here. My go to diner in the area. Depending on time of day service can be a little slow. On the other hand they don't rush you either. The coffee is great!

Peggy E.

Yelp
Food was great. Nice staff. Will definitely go back when in the area. Owned and operated by a lovely Turkish family.

Jim L.

Yelp
Food wasn't bad at all...everyone was happy with meals..."real " natural French fries...no coatings...cheeseburger was good...chicken parm panini was good ...eggs bene was good...real brewed ice tea...all good... We will be back... Service was good...

Yelp
One of my favorite family own local diner always fresh and delicious food with friendly environment . We were there and our server Mae was Leyla top notch service with beautiful smile .

Yelp
As so many diners in New Jersey unfortunately decline, South Star Diner really impressed me. They're still open 24 hours! The decor on the inside has been updated. I found my meal to be simply but freshly prepared, with lots of sides and good value. Highly recommended for people getting off work from a late shift at the hospital, for instance, and needing a complete meal instead of just Wawa or fast food.

Bonnie C.

Yelp
Can anyone make a good Rueben anymore? I feel like it's a dying art. First of all, stop piling on so much meat that it has to be served open face. Rueben's aren't open face. The ratio of components is way off. Not to mention, you end up with such a soggy sandwich, it's impossible to eat. I literally started to eat it as soon as I got it. That's what happened with my experience at South Star. Totally disappointed with my sandwich. A big soggy mess to try and eat. My "grilled rye".... Impossible to eat. Simply couldn't support the sandwich. I need to go to Brooklyn I guess.

Bob M.

Yelp
Older diner, but was very clean large portions meals for breakfast along with great service!

Yelp
Everytime I order, everything is always correct. Fresh & tasty, even at 1am! Absolutely recommend breakfast, lunch & dinner!

Yelp
Good food great experience . We were there Sunday morning they were busy but we got seated right the way and food was great temperature and yummy . Clean restrooms and very friendly staff .

Yelp
Good food and good service. Would definitely recommend this diner! Love that they are open 24/7

James M.

Yelp
Very good experience I ordered the cheeseburger thinking it wasn't going to be anything special but it turned out to be a very good experience overall
google avatar

Alain N.

Yelp
First time bringing my children here. Got seated fine. After 15 min no one came to take our order. Must be easy to over look black people. Any case no one even bothered to apologize. Just people making excuses. Definitely will spread the word of this experience.
google avatar

Robert F.

Yelp
Incredibly large selection of delicious meals at reasonable prices. Nice "diner" ambiance. Good service too!

Rakim A.

Yelp
I work as a dishwasher there still. I work 6 days a week 11 to 12 hours and I don't get a break like the other dishwasher here. I can't even get anything to eat or drink when I ask, unless I pay for it...... My name is Rocki
google avatar

Ed W.

Yelp
Food is fresh and delicious. House salad fresh and can really taste the vegetables. Chicken croquettes also fresh and strong chicken taste unlike frozen croquettes. Large servings and reasonable prices. Waitress was quick and polite. Dinner booth is clean and comfortable.
google avatar

Steve J.

Yelp
I love a good diner. And this is just that. Great selection of diner classics in the huge novel of a menu. Early bird specials, daily specials, fresh homemade soups all add up to a great meal. Service was great, very friendly and personable. They have a counter or booths in the cozy clean dining room. The homemade chicken soup was very tasty, as was the tuna melt. I opted for the comfort classic hot open turkey dinner. It came with soup and dessert for less than $20! It was great. Just what I expected and wanted from a diner. Desserts were great as well. The rice pudding was yummy as was the canoli cheesecake.

Steven F.

Yelp
Food here is made fresh. Had a craving for a diner meal and from a previous late-night stop in for an omelette, I decided I wanted to try their dinner. I ordered the chicken croquettes, a pair of fried lumps of minced chicken meat served over mashed potatoes covered in chicken gravy. They looked odd, shaped like squat little traffic cones, one bigger than the other. These didn't come from a box. I actually heard the cook chopping them in the back. Mild-flavored and filling, they hit the spot. Kudos to the staff for a great caesar salad which I honestly did not expect. They serve theirs with thick chips of parmesan cheese and pretty good croutons. I usually dread the croutons because most of the time they taste like cardboard, these were really good. Great food, clean spaces, friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

Brie A.

Yelp
Poor service! Don't even bother. I called to see what desserts they offered because I've never eaten there before and got met with the trashiest response. whoever answers the phones doesn't need to be working in the customer service industry AT ALL.
google avatar

Arthur R.

Yelp
When visiting the Mount Holly area this is one of my favorite restaurants to visit. The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. The food there has always been A-1 as afar as I am concerned. Once off the airport I'm thinking of heading here!

Yelp
Stopped in during lunch hour on a Sunday afternoon. The place was packed, but luckily it was only a five minute wait, and I really enjoyed the overall experience. Great pacing for the flow of diners, as employees were doing a good job cleaning up after people were done eating. Waitress was super nice, attentive, not making me feel rushed either. Plenty of wait staff kept checking on the table. Food was so good and great portion sizes. Home fries were delicious, not greasy or dry. The pumpkin waffle was cooked to perfection. This is what a true Jersey diner should be like. Definitely recommend!

JP J.

Yelp
-Tables are clean -Service speed is dependent whether they are properly staffed -Food is okay for a diner, ample portions -Would not order tuna hoagie; like a Miracle Whip Hoagie with a few tablespoons of tuna. Instead of romaine leaves of lettuce, slices of tomato and slices of onion, seems like they put veggies in a shredder and just put on top to fall everywhere if one tries to lift it. -Will still return due to long hours open, but it is only 24hrs MON-SAT, Not 24/7

Oleg S.

Yelp
This is the best overall Diner we found in our area that serves mainly American food favorites as well as some Italian and Turkish dishes. My absolute favorite is the Turkish brunch that includes poached eggs, tomatoes, cucumber, and onion salad with feta cheese. This is a delightful, healthy and light meal that is perfect for brunch. Also cheesecakes with strawberry, cherry, or blueberry toppings are a baker's delight. They are absolutely amazing deserts that are always fresh, do not have any breading but instead are filled with delicious cheese and adorned with beautiful and tasty crowns of fruits in their own syrups. The prices are very reasonable, service is excellent, friendly and fast and food is of the very good quality. Me and my wife became became regulars and you will get hooked on this place too if you try it once.

Eva C.

Yelp
The service was great, our waitress was very friendly and helpful. I got lost in the menu! So many different items to choose from. Our lunch was delicious and more than enough!! It easy to find parking, even though upon pulling in it appeared to be crowded. The atmosphere inside was peaceful and calm even though it was busy. All had smiles on their face. We will be visiting again! Thanks for a great lunch!

Yelp
We were looking for something to be open on Friday night as it was late but we didn't have dinner yet. Stopped in and it was pretty busy for 10:30 on a Friday night in that area. We were sat in the front near the counter. There is a whole other room in the back that was packed. When you walk in they have the glass case full of cheesecakes and cakes. They all looked so good. We were hungry but not enough to have our own meals so we decided to share. We ordered a regular cheesesteak with steak fries and came with soup or salad. We went with the today's soup. Cream of Crab. It was really good. Full of crab. The cheesesteak was huge. We got it with american cheese. There could have been a little more cheese, but it was good. It was not greasy. The steak fries were nice an crispy. It also came with cole slaw and a pickle if you requested it. It was just the right amount of food for the both of us. We decided to order a piece of cheesecake to go. It was good, but the only thing I noticed is it was crustless. I love a good crust on my cheesecake. Overall good meal.

Alexander C.

Yelp
The service was very good but I just am not as fond of the food , I got the country fried steak dish for breakfast and I will say this, it was just alright, wouldn't bend over heals to get it again. I will say the bacon was very good, the side of bacon was crispy but not crispy that you wouldn't like it, it was just right

Yelp
Nicely renovated small highway diner on Route 38, Mt. Holly. Counter in the front and dining along the side. Substantial menu with plenty of breakfast choices for me. Overall, not a bad Jersey roadside hash house. Decent friendly fast service, and plenty of Java refills without asking. I went with the #5 Breakfast Special (Country Fried Steak, Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns, w Sausage Gravy on the side), and found myself full about halfway through. It all tasted very good, and fortunately I only used a spoonful of the gravy for dipping. Eating more of that heavy goo would definitely be a life shortening experience. South Star Diner is a worthy addition to any occasional stainless diner car fixation. Give it a ride.

Robert B.

Yelp
I usually eat breakfast, even at dinner time, at the South Star. Dinner quality doesn't justify the price. I am diabetic, so those delicious looking cakes you first see, entering the diner are taboo, but they sure look good. The waitress told me they are made by a local bakery. Their breakfasts are excellent, service is good and the place is clean.

Yelp
My wife and I have been here twice since the new owners remodeled this diner... It looks much better than the old Mt. Holly Diner... The first time we stopped in was a week after the they opened and the second time was a few days ago... The staff was very friendly and helpful... We had omelets the first time... My wife had a vegetable omelet and I had a western omelet with a side of sausage and of course peppers and onions in our potatoes... We both had a wrap this last time... I had the Jack Daniels hamburger wrap and my wife had the Jack Daniels grilled chicken wrap... Our meals were delicious both times... We will definitely come back again...

Yelp
First time here. Trying new places. A friendly welcome. Our server was really nice. It seemed like a lot of regulars dining that night. Everyone seemed to know everyone. Love that!! I apologize but left my phone in the car so didn't take pictures. The salads came out quick. They were good. We ordered the pork chop special (really wish I took a photo) and the chicken croquettes. When I first try a diner at dinner I try their chicken croquettes. Probably the only person under 90 that orders them. My favorite!!!! I've made them at home and know the work that goes into homemade ones. These were crazy dry. Flavor could have been incredible. Not enough gravy or mashed potatoes to get them down. A little disappointing. The pork chop special had two huge chops, homemade gravy. Absolutely delicious. The sides were questionable all around. The baked potato was burnt but took it home and repurposed it. The fried zucchini was good but came out when we were done our meal. The steamed green beans are a definite no!!! So salty. Crazy salty!!!! Either way.....we'll be back to try more things.

Rosa S.

Yelp
Great service with a smile Generous portions of delish food and amazing desserts Quite atmosphere A little pricy

Tom W.

Yelp
While not the hugest menu, I still believe there is something for everyone on this menu - even vegetarians! Reasonable size menu means fewer and fresher ingredients and a kitchen staff that knows how to execute preparation reliably! Prompt, friendly seating. Prompt, friendly waitress service. Food served at the right temperature. And nice sized quantities, too - you'll see lots of leftovers going out with happy customers. Open 24 hours! Bright and clean. Owners on site daily - and they care! They're always looking to make things nicer, better. Will return again!
