How to Organize a Kitchen With Less Counter Space | Eater

"The local library is described as a go-to resource for trying out new cookbooks before buying them, allowing the writer to satisfy curiosity about titles without adding to clutter and supporting a more minimalist approach to cookbook collecting." - Amy Langrehr

Dear Lord! They totally need to renovate this place. It has no accessibility to the bathrooms. Anybody who can't climb stairs will have no access unless they bother the librarians and you never know what mood they might be in.

Southeast Library is one of the smaller libraries in the DC Public Library system, but an advantage of that is it gives off more of a family, neighborhood vibe. It's right next to the Eastern Market Metro near Barracks Row and the actual historic Eastern Market. It's in a single building and most of the collection is on the ground level. They have DVDs, music, books and a decent children's section. They have wifi and computers to use if you need them. The bottom floors houses the bathrooms and once a month, they sell bargain books down there.

It's closed. They should update this page.

Very convenient location. Smaller library so go early if you want a good seat and since it is one room it can get loud by the afternoon. Bathrooms are clean.

So grateful that PCDL offer a quiet place to read, go to the bathroom, print (up to 20 pages free). This is exactly what I want my city to be known for. A place for all of us.

I visit the library with my grandson he is just 2 1/2 year old and I couldn't find any books or toy for my grandson to play with. I have to leave the library and when to the play ground so he can have fun.

To whom it may concern, We would like to inform you about “Ferdosi Emrooz” magazine, from 2009 till now every week Ferdosi Emrooz had published and it is going all over America as well as the rest of the world. We are expanding our reach and make the magazine available for more readers and educated people, to achieve that purpose we would like to send a free copy to your library. Please advise us how you would like to proceed this matter. Looking forward to your reply, Sincerely Yours, Niki

I wouldn't recommend visiting the area around the time the children get out of school. It tends to be more fights and stealing from local stores during that time.

Yelp
Love this local library. The facilities are clean and bright, and it's usually busy enough to be lively(some kids) but not so much that it's distracting(eg. Starbucks). Like other reviewers have pointed out, the computers are popular, so opt for a laptop if you've got one. I've always had good customer service here, and I'm usually just popping in for some quick read or a DVD right after work. They also have seminars, discussions, family programs, workshops, tax forms, etc downstairs. DC library in general: I also like to go to the website and reserve DVDs in a series in order to place on hold. Just remember when you pick up your DVDs to get them "unlocked" so you can actually watch them. And you can only renew them once. Also, MLK central library has the best selection of everything, but it's definitely a more urban library, and this place just has a nice neighborhood feel. **Correction on the hours: due to budget cuts, the library is CLOSED on Sundays. The rest of the hours remain the same. (MWFSat 9:30am-5:30pm, TTh 1-9pm) For those of us who work traditional 9-5s, I will see you Tuesday/Thursday night.

Yelp
I love going to the library and exploring new ones, but the Southeast Neighborhood Library is not for me. Although it's conveniently located across from Eastern Market metro and I was able to find a few interesting reads, this library is tiny and smelly and I won't be back.

Yelp
NEW Hours: Monday, Wednesday. Friday, Saturday 9:30 am-5:30 pm Tuesday, Thursday 1 pm - 9 pm Sunday 1 pm-5 pm This library is a GREAT asset to Capitol Hill. Free wireless Internet, helpful library staff, public computer terminals and BOOKS. There are a couple things about this DC library that you should know before "judging" it: 1) It is small, but you can order books from any DC library and have them delivered here 2) The outside seating area is always enjoyable and you can usually get a wireless signal out in the garden 3) It is much more pleasant than the MLK Library Downtown to do work. Fewer people napping, cleaner, and great natural lighting. The Southeast Library proves that good things do come in small packages!

Yelp
I wish the hours were a bit later, but this place has internet, DVD, and quite a few books. also less than a block from the metro and friendly staff. If you don't have a library card yet, go get one! M, W, F, Sa 9:30 am - 5:30 pm T, Th 9:30 am - 9 pm Sun 1 pm - 5 pm

Yelp
Great little library right off the Eastern Market metro. It has a brighter, warmer feeling than some of the other DC libraries, though it definitely lacks space to read and the video/DVD collection is quite small (I'd recommend the NE branch for a wider variety). The librarians here are SUPER nice though. They will definitely help you with whatever you need. Note Computers are VERY popular here so bring your own laptop or be prepared to wait awhile...

Yelp
As DC libraries go, this is a landmark in SE. Others in the area are shut down for badly needed renovations or complete re-do. I like to usefulness of the elevator lobby on the side street - I always find magazines I haven't read while waiting for the elevator..Saves me from climbing thos steps, too. I AM a fan!

Yelp
Safe, affordable :), and a good example of a well run library. My experience is limited to books, but what can I say. They had them, I borrowed them. I returned them. No one was hurt in the procss.

Yelp
This is a great little library with a long history. I would give it 5 stars, but for two things. One, there are no comfortable chairs to sit in, only tables. (This probably necessary, however, to keep the library sleepers away.) Second, if you want to read current newspapers, they have them, but you can't easily read them because one selfish patron comes early every single day and takes them all to a table where he sits for several hours with his arms on his pile of today's papers, not even reading them. The staff seem bewildered and afraid to do anything. They will put the burden on you to attempt to grab a newspaper away from the hoarder, facing a possible hostile confrontation. For this reason, I drop one star.

Yelp
They don't always have the book you want on the shelf but you can always put it on hold there. There are several activities that go on at the library. Story Time is particularly popular and if you're interested in attending you should know that you have to show up early because they almost always get full. There are 2 book clubs that meet monthly and every week they have job seekers to help with the basics of a job search.

Yelp
Really lovely spot to get work done and do a little browsing. The space is very pleasant and looks like it may have been recently redone. The sides of the stacks are bright nature images printed on translucent fiberglass, very attractive and cool. The staff are very friendly and great. As other reviewers pointed out, there are public computers and printing but both have very long lines. (I've waited 45 minutes.)

David B.

Yelp
This is a wonderful library. It has a solid collection, long hours, a helpful staff, reliable access to the internet via wifi (strong), a regular terminal, or an express terminal. The printing station is a little complicated, but the staff can help with that. The bathroom looks a little worn, bit it is clean and sanitary.

Yelp
Been coming here since 1992, when I was a toddler and all. Loved the children section as a kid, and even now as an adult, I still like to go and pick up a novel or two....
