The Best Fried Fish in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"A gem of a lunch and brunch restaurant in Henry County, Southern Fusion serves comforting Southern food favorites within a cozy space. During peak lunch hours, the tiny restaurant is often packed with people ordering everything from collard-stuffed egg rolls and salmon croquettes to chicken Florentine and vegetable plates. Order the cornmeal battered crispy catfish served atop creamy grits or opt for that fried catfish served as a sandwich accompanied by sides of collards and sweet potato fries." - Beth McKibben

From the moment I walked in the door, I was greeted and given excellent customer service. The hostess was very friendly, and the waitress was awesome. She answered all of our questions and was very knowledgeable about the menu. The food and the prices were outstanding! The grits are amazing. I have never had such creamy grits. The omelette was delicious and so big I could not eat it all. And if you get the delicious cinnamon roll, make sure you share it with someone it is humongous!! We had a big group from church and they were very accommodating. I'm adding some pictures of all of our food. There were no complaints. Everyone loved everything. I will definitely be coming back here often.

Google
Appetizer Collard Rolls were scrumptious…simply delicious!! Collards were nicely seasoned with smoked turkey. Salmon Croquet was delicious too!! A sauce came with the croquet. Hubby purchased an extra croquet to prepare a sandwich. Yes! His palate wanted more!! Mrs. Tiffanie and RaeAnn, thank you all for the exceptional customer service, kindness, and friendliness to make our first dine-in experience awesome♥️! I will definitely return with guests for breakfast and lunch…yum!!!!

I found this hidden gem today on Google and can not wait to return! We arrived around 2:15-ish and were happy to see that they serve breakfast all day. We felt welcomed as soon as we walked in. Our server, Maysa, was an absolute delight. My mom had the blackened shrimp with grits, eggs, and waffle and loved it all. I had the frittata with chicken sausage and a side of country potatoes. The frittata was impressive! Everything was seasoned perfectly, and the portion size was just right. The worker who brought the food out was very friendly. We ordered collard green egg rolls to go and they were delicious as well. The sweet and spicy sauce for the egg rolls are the perfect match. Looking forward to returning!

Google
Sorry about the half eaten cinnamon roll, but it was so damn good. I usually don't like them, but the waitress Ari recommended it. Not to mention that the restaurant is so relaxing and gives at home vibes. That catfish and grits was the best that I've ever tasted. I can tell that this place cooks with love, and I will definitely be back.

Google
Came to the area to shop at the outlets, wanted to find some food. Found this place on Google and thought we’d give it a try. I had the “over the grits” part of the menu (salmon croquettes over grits with potatoes). I am very particular when it comes to both and I must say some of the best grits and croquettes I’ve had outside of what I cook at home. Great job. Highly recommend this place

Google
Wonderful breakfast, fresh and made to order. The home made biscuits is so good, warm and fluffy. Great place

Google
Love this place! It’s always my to go to place and they have the best grits hands down! Gives family vibes, great service, and a great peach tea/peach Palmer.

Google
walked into Southern Fusion Bistro as a first-time guest expecting a great meal, but what I got was an experience that exceeded even my own high standards. I found this place just 20 minutes before arriving—and wow. Not only was I impressed, but I impressed myself. And that? That’s rare. The atmosphere? Immaculate. The music set the perfect vibe, the space was clean and welcoming, and the staff? My server, Jasmine, was the definition of warm, attentive, and genuinely happy to be there. Beautiful energy! From the moment we walked in, my partner and I were overjoyed. Now, let’s talk about the food. I got the crab cakes and, as a self-proclaimed crab cake connoisseur, let me tell you—they were done right. I opted for a croissant instead of the brioche, and that choice? Divine. My partner had the Chicken Sandwich, and when I asked him to remind me of the name of this place so I could leave a review, he said, “My mama’s house.” LOL. That’s how good it was. Needless to say, this wasn’t just brunch—it was a reminder of what I deserve. If you’re looking for a place to truly treat yourself, look no further than Southern Fusion Bistro. Mm-mm-mm.

Yelp
My fiancé and I were visiting the area and stumbled upon this pleasant place. The ambiance is very welcoming , clean, good music. Service was excellent, from the moment we walked in. We were greeted and Zay our server was just a joy. He had a 5 star steakhouse service , 20% tip for sure. Food was excellent. As an appetizer we got the seafood boggers. Delicious. Fresh ingredients, cooked hot. We had the blacked Caribbean salmon and fried cat fish with the pepper jack grits. Cat fish was fried and seasoned perfectly. Blackened salmon was amazing. We got the Mac and cheese , greens , as sides. The blueberry biscuit. Outstanding , that's all I can say. This a real 5 star establishment.

Yelp
If you love Southern Comfort foods this place is a must. My favorites are the pepper jack grits, blueberry toast and when I want to eat pork bacon I come here because their bacon has a maple brown sugar type rub on it. Delicious food always seasoned well, great quality and hot. They play different types of music, have a TV on and the vibe is great. I truly love their customer service as well. Check them out you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
THIS Hidden Gem my little cousin invited me to will be hard to replace. You can tell every single thing down the the dang peach tea is made to order and with love!!! First of all, it was packed on Saturday which is good to see!! It's spacious enough for a Little party or just a date for 2. We had a little 15min wait which honestly felt like 7min & they even call to bring you in, none of that texting nonsense Our server was the freakin sweetest named Maisa (spellcheck). She was prompt, sweet, informative and welcoming altogether! Food took the amount of time damn good food is supposed to take and BOY WAS IT DELICIOUS. You really just have to go see for yourself!!! The dang Peach tea, the Candied Bacon, the freakin biscuits, the customized omelette & OMG THE SHRIMP AND GRITS! My mouth's watering just thinking about them and I'm not a "grits kinda girl" well... Southern Fusion Dining popped my Grits Cherry!! I'm making this place a staple to go to whenever I visit Town! 10000000/10!! I can't wait to try to rest of the menu!!!

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place. I will say the service was great. The staff was the embodiment of southern hospitality but the food was lack luster. The collard green egg rolls had just a bit of turkey meat and no salt. Such a creative idea that just fell short of expectations. The dipping sauce saved this appetizer. The crab cake sandwich did have a significant amount of crab meat but it too was not well seasoned and fell short of expectations.

Yelp
We had no idea this place even existed but boy are we glad we found it. The wife didn't feel like getting dressed so I decided I would get take out to try the food. Was it good? Nope. It was delicious! Wife got a sausage and cheese croissant sandwich which she loved. I got the southern fusion omelette with sausage, pepper jack grits, cinnamon raisin toast and an extra side of the potatoes. That was the fluffiest, lightest omelette I have ever had stuffed with veggies and cheese. The grits were different. Very creamy and tasty. And for the first time in this area I found a place that uses peppers and onions in their potatoes. I'm from the north where onions and peppers are a staple in the breakfast potatoes or "home fries" as they call them. Even with them being fried it makes a difference in the flavor. The place was quaint with a very inviting atmosphere. The service friendly and fast. The wife and I will be back to try this one again. Might be our new spot!!!

Yelp
Black own, Food is delicious, Blueberry biscuits delicious. Salmon croquettes delicious

Yelp
Amazing!! Wow!! You are missing out on one the best in the Region. Customer service outstanding

Yelp
Excellent food. Great service. My only real negative was the small space made it seem very loud. I got the French toast sandwich which was delicious and my wife enjoyed the croissant with chicken. Also the lemon blueberry cinnamon roll was approved by all. While we didn't get them the biscuits looked amazing and they were very large
google avatar

Yelp
Good Lawd! That mess was DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!! I had the catfish and grits with a biscuit. The catfish was fresh (not from an old frozen supply), seasoned well and perfectly fried. The grits...my goodness...best pepper jack grits I've ever head. This biscuit was large and had a great taste. Why in the world is this place hidden back in the cut in Locust Grove --- it should be out front somewhere! I ordered a to-go so the service was great with my limited experience. Run to this place! Based on this visit, it is soooo worth the game of hide and seek to find it!

Yelp
These folks know how to throw down a fantastic meal. The portions were great, every ingredient was so fresh, seasoned, priced right and extremely tasty. Everything is made to order so your entree may take a minute so go ahead and get the Collard Greens Egg Rolls for an appetizer they are fantastic!!! On top of that, the customer service was the best! It feels like you are going over to your family's house for a Sunday dinner. They are only open Thursday - Sunday and the decor is not what you are coming for It's the FOOD and SERVICE that will keep us coming back again and again. It's tucked away in a small shopping strip, so use GPS. It's not far from Tanger Outlets in Locust Grove and worth the drive. Georgia's best kept secret. Enjoy!!

Yelp
My husband found this hidden gem a couple of hours before we left for a road trip. There is a faded sign with the newer name of the restaurant over the older signage. Don't let that deter you from thinking the restaurant isn't there. When we came in we were greeted by Chris who was the hostess and server. Service was great and fast. The food was very delicious. I ordered the house omelette with ham and onions and it came with toast and grits. We ordered the kids plate for our son (one egg with cheese, sausage and fruit with toast). My husband ordered their sausage egg and cheese croissant. Everything was appetizing especially their grits. Usually when I order grits anywhere I have to add a lot of butter or even salt. I used less than a teaspoon in these grits and they were phenomenal. My omelette was cooked perfectly too. I will definitely keep this place in mind when traveling that way in the future.

Yelp
Great place to have breakfast. Service is ALWAYS great. You may have a wait, but the food will be worth it. On this visit, I did carry out and had the pork frittata served with breakfast potatoes. Great flavor as always. The frittata sell out quickly so get there early if you want one of these. This restaurant is located in a shopping plaza and has lots of parking.

Yelp
As good as everyone says! Food came out piping hot and seasoned to perfection! They also have wonderful service: very attentive and kind.

Yelp
We're from NJ and looked on Yelp for a local restaurant for breakfast. Food and service was excellent ! Bacon in sugar maple syrup glaze was the best!
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
This restaurant is outstanding!! We live in Roswell, GA where we are surrounded by many amazing restaurants and yet, this place would stand above the crowd. It's that great!! The menu carries a wide variety of breakfast choices and based on our experience, it was all fantastic. We had sausage gravy, pepper jack grits, waffle and chicken and million dollar bacon. Yummy! The service was outstanding as well! They can count on us being repeat customers. BTW, it's a little hard to find but your GPS will take you right there.

Karen V.

Yelp
The restaurant is clean, service was great, staff was very friendly, and the breakfast is so good.

Yelp
Excellent food. My first time having a collard green egg roll. Surprisingly, I highly recommend them. Philly cheese steak and the omelette with pepper jack grits were filling and worth a visit. Small restaurant but it was pretty much empty when we went. There were a lot of people picking up orders.

Yelp
Just a little store front cafe with Big dining taste. I wanted another happy brunch experience in the ATL with some former Cali family. I found this taste of Nawlin's on Yelp and loved what I read. The owner and chef is former military who later went to culinary school. We tried the Collard Egg Rolls, Seafood Wonton's and Shrimp and Grits. I also had the Mac and cheese. I would've tried one of the cheesecake dessert's but the one I wanted was so good it was gone.

Yelp
If heaven is serving food up there, I hope they have this on the menuuuu!!!! This place is absolutely amazing! The food is immaculate, the service and staff are very nice!. I love that the whole crew greets you coming in. Very nice setting/ambience. My new favorite place! I love me some shrimp and grits and by far this is the best shrimp and grits I've ever tasted in my life! The Belgium waffle just melts in your mouth! Everything is seasoned to perfection!

Dawn T.

Yelp
The food was fabulous!!! The service was fabulous!!! We took home an original cinnamon roll and a blueberry lemon cinnamon roll they were delicious. Thank you chef

Donna F.

Yelp
The food and service are excellent! The fish and grits and that biscuit delicious! Everything I've eaten here has been great!

Yelp
Third time COULD have been the charm, but it wasn't. I keep ending up with a waiter who apparently knows nothing about customer service. My group of 4 was seated in the booth nearest the restroom (despite the dining room being mostly empty). The booth seat was taped in huge swaths - with the tape peeling off, making it very difficult to slide in. We waited a MINIMUM of 7 minutes for our server to come and ask about drinks. It was another 7 minutes AT LEAST before a soda, a milk, a coffee and a water showed up. To add insult to injury, the server put ONE beverage down, then turned around, tray in hand withbthe pther 3 drinks, to take a phone call instead of placing the other beverages on the table. He took not only that call but a second one, before bothering to ask for our orders. While (eventually) carrying our orders out, he stopped at another table on the other side of the room. The absolute saddest part is that the food is absolutely FANTASTIC; large portions, beautifully prepared, airy biscuits, and delicious. It just is painful to get the food to your table. The KITCHEN staff know what they are doing, but the FOUR wait staff at the front just can't get their acts together, even when there are only two or three tables with customers.

Yelp
The food & the staff are great. The Big Breakfast with the pancakes & the pepper jack cheese grits are delicious.

Yelp
This place doesn't look like much on the outside but the food is really good and the service is even better. My sister and I met here for brunch last Saturday and I was very pleased with the service and food. It's not often that you get that home town feeling at places like this. Me and my sister will definitely make this our permanent meet up spot. For more food reviews, follow @theboogiefoodie

Yelp
Great food and great service! The best in the area! The grits are creamy and never watery! Chicken and catfish are excellent. Try everything on the menu!
google avatar

Yelp
Great service! Sausage Gravy biscuits was my favorite dish. Ambiance, very basic and down home. Chris was our server, great service.
google avatar

Sebastian M.

Yelp
Nice mom & pop shop. Nice vibes. Our waiter was very kind, looked out for our table. Was patient and kind. The food was VERY good. Couldn't eat it all, very affordable. Parking was easy and the wait was not long on a Saturday morning.
google avatar

Yelp
Believe the great reviews! We stopped by at lunch, I got the biscuit and gravy (small order) and an egg, my wife got the Florentino chicken. Everything was fresh and delicious, and my biscuit was HUGE and was amazing (the best I have ever had)! Our waitress Honey was sweet as her name, and she brought us peach "biscuits" (fritters) and even gave us a sample of their pepper jack grits. We finished our meal with a few bites of their awesome cinemon roll (and took the rest for later). This place is a hidden treasure, give it a try- you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
This place doesn't look like much from the outside, and the inside is furnished rather sparingly, but don't let that fool you! First off, the staff were outstanding. They all had gracious smiles that indicated they were happy to be there. The importance of a staff with great attitudes can never be understated. The food? It was magnificent! The French toast was out of this world. The pork and chicken sausages were WAY above average. Everyone in our party made a fuss over how delicious every item was. But I save the best for last.... drum roll..... The Pepperjack Grits. When you taste these, you'll be glad you were sitting down, becasue they are knee-buckling. I sure wish we were closer to the place, but from this point forward, whenever we're road-tripping to and from Atlanta, we know where we'll be dining! WELL DONE!!!!
google avatar

Tamikia F.

Yelp
Stopped here after my dentist about last weekend and boy am I glad I did!! This spot is a little hidden but it is so worth it!! Customer service was top tier!! I went in by myself and my server Chris was so friendly and helpful with the menu items since it was my first time. He ended up sitting with me and talking to me the whole time. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is a small establishment full of great food and great customer service! It's off the road in a plaza so if you drive by to fast you'll miss it. And if you do, you'll kick yourself in the but for that. We walked in and were immediately greeted warmly. Our drink orders were readily taken. And as we ordered our server had suggestions and was more than happy to modify items to meet certain dietary needs. The chicken was hot, crunchy and flavorful. The pepper jack cheese grits were creamy and delicious. I was reluctant to try them so I'm so glad the server talked me into ordering them. The salmon patty wasn't my favorite as I l like mine a little more flakey but it had a good flavor. The Cinnamon roll was huge and my friends devoured it. I only tasted the icing which was very good. (My sweet tooth was not in effect this day) But the star was the HOMEMADE BISCUITS!! Moist, and pillowy soft with a lovely crust on the outside and a delectable butter flavor running through every bite!! It was one of the best biscuits,, I've ever eaten. I'm almost sad I didn't order the biscuit and gravy. So make sure you check them out, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My favorite lunch all week! Fantastic find in mid west GA. If you find yourself in Locust Grove you gotta go.

Yelp
First time to the area, read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Pretty decent food, good flavor, good service, came for breakfast. I'll come back and try them for dinner one day.

Yelp
The food and customer service was amazing!! Honey was very professional and kind! My omelette was delicious, my sisters had grits with pepper jack cheese they were delicious and creamy. My other sister had a breakfast frittata It tasted delicious. I will definitely go back! I enjoyed the food and atmosphere

Yelp
went for breakfast and was not disappointed. everything was so good. food and service great. they did forget us and didn't acknowledge their mistake, so i was upset about that. our waitress was super attentive and kind, so i didn't sweat the mishap.

Yelp
A must-try! The gyro wrap and lamb burger is tasty andmy favorite! Service is friendly. I really enjoy the cozy ambiance here!
google avatar

Shalaila D.

Yelp
Decided to try this B.O.B. out, since I had business in the area, and wasn't disappointed. I saw pics online of fish n grits so I went for it. Initially the pepper jack taste in my grits had to grow on me, but the savory flavor added to the creaminess of the grits. This appeared to be a family ran establishment as I think the mother was the hostess and the son, Tay, was the waiter. Everyone was really friendly and hospitable. But my favorite part of this visit was getting my food piping hot, potatoes and fish like it came FRESH UP out the grease! As someone who doesn't like cold food, I APPRECIATE this!
google avatar

Angelica M.

Yelp
I will return! This was my 2nd time here and it was very very good m! I had the Shrimp and grits and my husband had the catfish and grits. Sean was our waiter and he was very nice.

Yelp
Shrimp and grit & Biscuit and gravy was super good. This place is so homie feeling with the customer service. I wish they used real utensils but that all I can say negative. The environment was perfect for a brunch with the family.
google avatar

Denee F.

Yelp
Service was excellent. Waiter recommended several items.... our table had the chicken and waffles, chicken sausage florentine, shrimp and pepper jack grits, catfish and pepper jack fish, and the breakfast bowl. Everything was delicious, well seasoned, and good portions! A little hole in the wall find!

Yelp
The food was good. The service was good. The decor could use a little bit of a refresh.

Yelp
Southern Fusion Dining is a real gem located in Locust Grove, Ga. Located about 8 miles from the Tanger Outlets in Locust Grove, it's a great way to start your day and especially before going shopping. You can feel the sense of community. The food is great and the service is warm and friendly. I had the fried catfish breakfast with sunny side eggs, toast, pepper Jack cheese grits, and a side of their bacon. Everything was delicious. I really liked the catfish n grits. A classic southern breakfast. My wife had the sausage quiche and the pepper Jack grits. Sausage The rest of the menu looked great. They are great for lunch, brunch and breakfast. The attire is casual and there's plenty of parking. Whether it's a weekday, or like us the start of a Saturday morning, I recommend this little gem. It has the warmth, the the feel, and the good food of a local dinner.
google avatar

Iesha W.

Yelp
My daughter and I decided to try this place out after a random "food near me" search. I'm glad we did. We both enjoyed our meals. The egg rolls weren't my favorite, but my daughter liked them. My catfish could've been soaked longer to remove the muddy flavor, but it was seasoned well. The biscuits are huge. The grits were creamy and flavorful. The salmon dirty chips were good and the portion was huge. The salmon was well made. The colossal bun was way too sweet for me, but a sweet loving kid's dream.
google avatar

Renee E.

Yelp
Okay ya'll! Another amazing place to check out! If you love authentic Southern breakfast THIS PLACE is incredible!! Catfish with pepper jack grits, Cathead biscuits and sausage gravy ( yes, the biscuit is the size of a cathead!!) and amazing service from Cameryn and crew! Omelet fluffy and full, strong coffee, oh my!!! You gotta try it if you are down this way! They are open Thursday through Sunday, so don't pass this up!

John S.

Yelp
Stopped by on a road trip recently, and super happy that we did! The staff was incredibly friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. I got the Chicken and Waffles, which were enormous. Probably enough to feed two people. Really good too. My wife got pancakes that were also top notch. If I'm ever in the general area, I'd go out of my way to eat here again.
google avatar

Keith T.

Yelp
Ambiance small and quaint; Service was excellent! Great Atmosphere and the food was really good. Seems like all food here is delicious. I had the Big Breakfast, other guest had Salmon Croquettes and Chicken sausage is on point.
google avatar

Tatiana P.

Yelp
Unbelievably delicious. Seriously not ONE thing we did not enjoy - and we tried almost all!!! Our waitress was GREAT at her job because she sold us in everything. AND it was her birthday and she was working! What a sweetheart. The blueberry biscuits - a must! The sausage biscuits and gravy?? Holy crap! The kids all scarfed their waffles down... and the deserts?!?! We even ordered a loaf of their poundcake to go! Will definitely be coming here every single time!

Yelp
Southern Fusion Dining is one of the best restaurants in Locust Grove, GA. My family and I went to this restaurant for Father's Day weekend and the food was absolutely amazing and delicious. I would definitely recommend Southern Fusion Dining to everyone that lives in Henry County, GA. Southern Fusion Dining is a black-owned Family restaurant ran by an Executive Chef that graduated from Morehouse College. The staff was very helpful and gracious to serve at any given moment! I had the Big Breakfast Entreé, which included the options of a Belgium waffle or French toast, three eggs, grits, hash browns (not served on Sundays) and different choices of meat (e.g., ham, bacon and sausage). Everything was sooooooo delicious and seasoned throughout the entire meal.

Yelp
This off the road hidden treasure warrants its five stars. Unassuming from the outside we almost turned around but I decided to go in and check it out. On our way to Florida, turned to Yelp for a breakfast recommendation. Clean and quaint. My breakfast was tasty. I loved that they brought warm syrup! My partner especially enjoyed his Chef's (meat lovers) omelette with creamy rich grits. Service was outstanding, beginning with promptness of taking order and bringing our meal. Coffee was refreshed twice without our asking. As they knew we were traveling they offered water and or coffee to go! It's the little things. I recommend Southern Fusion!
