Where to Eat in The Nations

"Three friends’ homebrewing hobby turned into a bustling brewery with two taprooms in the Nashville area. The Nations outpost of Southern Grist Brewing not only serves up the IPAs, sours, and ales locals have grown to love but also boasts an onsite food concept, L by Lauter. The limited menu of bites like green chili queso, hushpuppies with crab butter, and a charcuterie board pair perfectly with a cold pint." - Kellie Walton, Alex Hendrickson

7 Best Nashville Breweries to Visit for Craft Beer in 2021 - AFAR

"Southern Grist, around since 2016, is a local favorite best known for its hearty barrel-aged stouts, New England-style IPAs, and fruited sours. It features a constantly rotating menu of small-batch beers and doesn't have a single flagship beer, rather choosing to constantly experiment with flavors. Southern Grist started out of its East Nashville location then expanded to another taproom this year, located directly in front of its production facility." - Mae Hamilton

Tim was an absolute love and so grateful he was serving us this evening as we were discussing future plans and was both helpful but also aware we were chatting and respected our us time vs other places we have been where the bartender feels the need to insert themselves. Great beer, wonderful vibes, glad the sober one is driving! Feel free to check our untapped Coastal_Jazz

Google
best brewery in town, always is my safe haven after a hard day at work, especially being able to enjoy conversation with the regular bartenders like tim!

Came in for a quick beer. Staff were friendly and beer was very tasty. Relatively small brewery.

My husband is a brewer in OKC, and when we travel, we like to start out exploring a city by trying out a couple breweries. For our trip to Nashville, we pulled right into town and up to the bar at Souther Grist. That ended up being an elite decision. We arrived and immediately hit it off with the staff, who chatted with us our entire time. We ended up sampling several of their beers, and each were excellent. I like a sour beer and believe I ended up trying everything they had on at the time, and they just kept getting better. My husband tried a few of their IPAs and lagers, and we were both just so impressed. We got lots of great food recommendations, and just overall had a great time. In all our brewery hopping across the country, we both agreed this may have been our favorite by far. Excellent work to the entire brew crew and staff!!

Google
Staff is friendly and nice atmosphere. Didn't think the beer was anything special, we order 2 flights(which was quite expensive, about $10 more than most other places we've gone to). Key Lime Sour was great but the 3 other sour beers were more like juice.

Google
Always a chill time with great beers here. The best IPAs in Nashville, and Tim is an awesome bartender. Great energy 10/10 LFGGGGG

Google
Enjoyed the beer. A little disappointed that the only 2 stouts they had both had coconut and it was strong. If you like a lot of coconut then you'd definitely enjoy them! We went at noon on Monday and our bartender was not overly friendly, he wasn't rude but not our usual brewery experience. They did not appear to have any covered outdoor seating, however, we did not go outside.

Google
Awesome place! Absolutely delicious beer and friendly staff. The atmosphere is super chill, good AC, it's clean, and very spacious. Best brewery of the four we visited today!

Yelp
Amazing beer!!! SG is our favorite brewery in TN! They make HELLA delicious smoothie sours and hazy IPA's! Since we are moving here from California...this will be our go to brewery! The staff is hella friendly and knowledgeable. If you're thirsty....make your way over to Southern Grist.
google avatar

L M.

Yelp
TLDR - Deer Southern Grist, Keep making the great hazy/NEIPA beers and work on hiring people who don't hate your beer. Yesterday I went to Southern Grist with 3 friends to enjoy some NE IPA's. Yummy. SG has some great hazy beers. Keep up the good brewing. However... As often can happen with customer service, whether good or bad, it can color your experience. The gentleman working that day was unfriendly and clearly doesn't like beer. Not a great front man for the brewery. Serious "wet blanket" vibes and downer. I asked him which of the DDH beers he liked better or some differences between them. His answer went something like this, "I don't like IPA's and all of our beers taste the same". Okee dokee, so glad we drove across town for some crap beer that all tastes the same (Sarcasm. I think the beer is pretty darn good. Customer service - not so much.) We shook it off and enjoyed some delicious beers despite the initial buzzkill.

Yelp
I love this bar! I'm gluten free and they have excellent cocktail options for people like me who can't drink beer.

Yelp
Now uhhh... let me be clear: I do not like beer. It even says so on my Wikipedia page - go look it up. Seeing Michelle bring me a scrumptious glass of STRAWBERRY MANGO ORANGE CRUSH MELTED SNO CONE with her beautiful, strong arms... yeah. I'm a beer guy now. Great service.

Yelp
One of my favorite breweries in Nashville, the vibes here are perfect. The bartender was playing music from our generation that had everybody in a great mood. The beer selection is great, I am not a fan of sours yet all of their sours were actually my favorite. 100k, mosa, and PB&J were all delicious. They have some really awesome merch and a huge selection at that. You can buy 4-6 packs of beer to go as well. The food selection is very slim, just some small snacks so I would suggest eating before if you are hungry for dinner.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Southern Grist is one of my favorite local breweries. They specialize is really unique styles; sours, smoothie-style ales, and IPAs. They have a lot of experimental beers. I guarantee you can find something here that you've never tried anywhere else. I've had the pleasure to check out all the locations and the Nations spot was has a good vibe, especially if you're planning to sit on the patio with nice weather. The inside isn't that spacious with a grouping of six-tops lining the wall. But the bartender was fun and played great music from our generation. All in all, great place to hang with friends, or alone. The beer is always changing so it's worth going back to check it out.
google avatar

Brittany B.

Yelp
I love SG. They are prolific and creative, which I really appreciate in a brewery! They have to have produced over 1000 individual beers over the years. I figure I've had over 200 of those beers myself! Glad it's local.
google avatar

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place. Beers were actually fairly priced and were delicious. I really enjoyed their pilsners. Inside is super nice, but don't pass up sitting outside. It's perfect in the evenings when there's more shade and the heat of the sun isn't as bad. Would definitely go back, had a great time. Good service and they keep it clean

Yelp
You can find this location of Southern Grist Brewing at 5012 Centennial Blvd, Nashville, TN 37209 - this is the end of a shopping center near Tennessee State University and the Nations area. Parking is out front and somewhat limited, you may be able to park around the edges and on the street (not sure). I was pretty excited to visit one of my favorite Nashville breweries on a recent visit (attended the Brew at the Zoo and checked out about a half-dozen local breweries - this and Barrique were the top 2 others came close). This is a rather unassuming taproom - I believe their production facility is elsewhere. Don't be fooled though as there were about 20 beers available for consumption. I've had friends bring me Southern Grist down to Atlanta for a couple of years - I'm in general a big fan of their sours and stouts but find all their releases good and worth pursuing. The interior of this location is spacious with tables on the left a a taproom bar that extends most of the interior distance on the right - there are monitors that show their current draft selection. I was with a group of 6 people so we all got different flights and managed to taste everything as well as pick up bottles for the road. Service is excellent with knowledgeable staff there to answer your questions - quite friendly. On this occasions I had the following: *[Insert Juicy Pun) NEIPA *Double Fruited Black Currant Raspberry Hill Fruited Sour *Blueberry Banana Pancake Hill Fruited Sour *Mango Coconut Dressed Up Hill Fruited Sour *Premium Bitter *Marshmallow Passion Fruit Raspberry Strawberry Hill Fruited Sour *'Mosa - Mimosa inspired sour *Peanut Butter S'mores Blackberry Hill Fruited Sour *Barrel Aged Cordially Yours Pastry Stout *Turnip the Juice Fruited Sour *2 slushies (Slab Series: Chocolate Almond Double Filled Blackberry Jelly Donut and 'Mosa) The best of the batch was that Double Fruited Black Currant Raspberry Hill to my tastes but I was also a fan of the Barrel Aged Cordially Yours. This is still my favorite Nashville brewery with Barrique a close second. I had a great time and left with a few bottles and cans. Also glad they've reopened their taproom.

Yelp
Delicious, delicious, delicious! Southern Grist was great. This location has a nice patio that is dog friendly. They have a good variety of beers on tap. I ordered a flight and enjoyed each style I ordered. Definitely add a stop to Southern Grist.

Yelp
Stocking 51 really has everything... coffee, Italian food, Nashville gear, a salon and beer! Southern Grist Brewing was a pit stop during my exploration of Stocking 51. This brewery offers both indoor and outdoor dining and tons of tasty craft beers. I had the southern crisp Pilsner and just enjoyed a quite outdoor patio to myself. This brewery also offers plenty of robust IPAs, and even a beer slushy! I didn't noticed any food options, but I'm sure you can bring food in from the surrounding restaurants. The parking here can be tough, but make sure to check the back lot for extra spaces or get in on that street parking.

Yelp
Loved getting a chance to visit this location while in Nashville earlier this summer. We are lucky to be able to buy some of their beers in Wisconsin but there's something to be said about going to the source. The tap room is not larger but there is adequate seating and so many beers available on tap. I love the way their menu is organized with all the sours together, IPAs and so on. Makes ordering so much easier! I chose a variety of styles,2 sours, IPA and a stout. They were all delish, They also had a great selection of canned beers in their to go cooler. Was fun to pick a few to take home.

Yelp
Loved every sour we had!! Super cool place just to chill. Amazing ambiance. Try out the Mliko pours for a unique experience.

Yelp
Just moved here and we're on a mission to check out all the brew pubs in the area. SGB has a nice open area with comfy couch, tables, long bar and outside seating. Music at the right level to enjoy but still hear conversation. Our bartender was informative and pleasant. Nice pours. They had a food truck with some interesting noshes but we had just eaten. Next time we'll know better. We love fruity sours and they didn't disappoint. My girl had 5 oz taster's of 7 beers. The Imperial, Cherry Cobbler, Purple Skies and Passion Fruit Black Currant Hill stood out but all were very good. I'm a N/A drinker and was happy to have two choices. Beacon IPA was fruity and the Company Pils was Light and crisp. Overall great experience and I could see this becoming a favorite.

Yelp
Wow, I honestly can't believe that I haven't reviewed SG yet, despite going there for many years now. Southern Grist is our favorite brewery and they are just such a fun brewery all around. They brew a large variety of beers, but none are really staples and you sometimes won't see a favorite again for a while. They specialize in Hazy IPAs, sours, pastry stouts, and they've been making a bunch of lagers recently too. They have several different series of beers, including their fruity sour Hill series, which is a favorite of ours. They started out in East Nash, but added the Nations taproom several years ago in an expansion. It has lots of seating inside and outside and there's plentiful parking (park around back for ease of parking). The staff are all super kind and the place is very welcoming to everyone (especially families and pups). We've been to festivals here and they've done a fantastic job organizing them. They were also great all throughout Covid and we always felt safe here. Southern Grist is an amazing company and one of the places that makes Nashville a special place!

Yelp
I visited here on a friend's recommendation. The service was friendly. It was a cool environment to hang out and chat. It was a Tuesday afternoon so pretty empty. I got the Blueberry Cobbler which was absolutely delicious. It was light and easy to drink. Next I got the Tangerine Apricot Peach Hill which was also very good, but I think would be better for someone who loves orange juice. My partner got the Light It Up stout which was also delicious and flavorful. Recommend.

Yelp
One of my favorite breweries in Nashville, love the sours. Tyler and Dakota are awesome too.
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
They've got some good beers here, across all varieties. We especially liked their Broconut IPA and both of the dark beers they had on tap. They do flights and half pours and of course smaller pours of their higher ABV beers. Strong and free WIFI, just like 'merica, and they sell singles to go out of their refrigerator! Love that. They were selling a lot of to go beer the day we were there. Decent amount of seating inside (probably seats at least 100) and a small outside space as well. Parking is plentiful with a free, large lot out front, plus street parking across the street as well. Not sure on the food options here at this location, but I don't think they have a kitchen. I really, really liked their digital menu board over the chalk menu board at their location in East Nashville; simply much easier to decipher and read. Tons of merch choices here too if that's your thing. Try this location out, I bet you'll be satisifed.
google avatar

Patrick O.

Yelp
Impressed by the reviews and the menu, I decided to try it out for dinner and a drink. Drove to The Nations location and was shocked to discover that they had no kitchen. No indication on their website that only the southern Nashville location offers real food. I left in disgust.
google avatar

Heather A.

Yelp
So many good beers to choose from! I did a flight and got the 'mosa, strawberry biscuit ale, peanut butter strawberry jelly hill, and the maple vanilla apricot hill. The 'mosa and fantastic and I loved the pbj and Strawberry jelly too. Not a fan of the maple vanilla, but my husband loved it. Atmosphere was awesome and they have a great selection of merch.
google avatar

Rob S.

Yelp
Really disappointed to arrive and find out that they weren't open for normal business. At this time they are only providing orders to go. I was anxious to try them out because of all the unique beers they have and a ton of crazy sour flavors (my wife tends to like sours and ciders). They staff was really nice and apologetic and were eager to help us make some selections from the cans they had on hand. We grabbed a couple (still need to try) and look forward to when things are a little more normal and we can come here for a regular visit. The staff was really nice and informative and deserve 5 stars for the general great attitude.

Yelp
We love the Southern Grist location in the Nations. This has become one of my BF's favorite breweries. The is a great mix of beer and they always have new beer on tap. The other day when we were there, he said that if he had friends come to town for a brewery tour, Southern Grist would be the first stop on the tour. The taproom is pretty spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. There is not a kitchen onsite but I do think they have a food truck that serves barbecue. There are about 20 different beers on tap and they also serve cider for the non-beer drinkers. The other night I tried the "Compliments and Kind Words" which is a Milk Stout brewed with Peanut Butter and Oreos. Seriously. Delicious. It was dessert in a glass. I think it would be amazing served over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The BF loves IPAs and he loved the Insert Juicy Pun. He said it was just a great, no frills IPA. The bartender gave me a sample of Boil the Ocean, which is a sour ale. I am not a fan of sours but gave it a try. It was really good. It tasted like a mimosa. It was not super sour. It was really the sourness of a glass of orange juice--maybe even sweeter than that. Very light. Very drinkable. Looking forward to our next visit to the taproom to see what other delicious beers will be on tap.

Yelp
There aren't many things that take me to Nashville. I mostly visit when there's a concert tour rolling through. Come to think of it... that's the only reason I visit Nashville. Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of Nashville. Well... I've found a reason to make a trip down there even when there's not a concert. Southern Grist is a must-visit when visiting Nashville. On my most recent visit, I expected to visit a few breweries. I added Southern Grist to the list not expecting to love it so much. Before trying anything, just looking over the menu board made me love this place! Dare I say that it's my favorite brewery in a 500-mile radius of Louisville. You can get tasters of every beer you want. They range in price from two to three bucks. I ended up having 6 tasters but I was also able to try sips of what my partner ordered. We each had just about everything they were offering at that time. I'm in love. New England IPAs... check! Sours... check! Fruited IPAs... check! I wish I would've picked up a four pack of that Strawberry Upside Down Cake IPA. It was delicious. Since my visit, I've been following them on all the socials. They're constantly releasing something that sounds delicious and when the summer hits... I might make monthly trips down just for them. The variety of NE IPAs/IPAs/Sours/Fruited IPAs is perfect here! They have two locations. This is called the Nations taproom. Without visiting the other location(which I think is closer to downtown), I think I prefer this location. Our bartender was friendly and ready to give us beer. It was around lunch time so there weren't many people there. There were a few people that came in over the lunch hour. They do have a parking lot but you're more than likely going to park on the road shoulder nearby. Their parking lot is shared with other businesses in the area. It was full that day so I'm sure it's like that all the time. There's also a delicious taco shop around the corner(Oscar's-review forthcoming). If you're in Nashville, love beer and you're reading this now... GO HERE NOW!

Yelp
NOTE: Not open yet due to COVID, so some of this review (from my last visit before closing) does not apply today. I will aim at removing this once they reopen the taproom. 5 stars with a caveat (will get to that). I love most of their beer. The collabs are out of this world. The staff is awesome. And the place is very modern, perhaps a bit of an industrial feel, with a nice bar. They have a small food menu, but they allow food from outside and are down the strip from a brick over pizza joint and across from the 51st street deli which is wonderful (both the sandwiches and tacos, although I hear the burgers are great too). The beer? Sours are the center of their wheelhouse and they do tons of them. It is clear they are very skilled in adding adjuncts and the come up with some unique variations (the Hill series in one of their staples). They also have a mixed greens IPA series where they rotate hops on what I assume is the same malt and yeast base and do some others. I have not been unhappy. There are some darks, but I see more as their special runs. My favorite of all times was their first collab with Garagiste Meadery in Tampa called Reboogs Return (the second was also good, but the Mexican Chocolate they released the same day was better). The caveat? I am a bit worn out on the heavier lactose sours. They are a style lots of people love, and one of SG's niches, but I am just burned out for now. If that is your style, it is one thing they do very well and I would still rank SG one of our top 5 micros in the metro area. The demand from friends across the country wanting to trade has matched Bearded Iris now.

Yelp
SOUR HEAVEN!! Heaven, I say!! When the Fella started researching breweries in Nashville for us to visit during our trip, he was very excited to tell me about Southern Grist. I LOVE sour beers. And boy oh boy, do they do sour beers right! We went in just after opening time. There is a parking lot, but it is shared with several other businesses in the immediate area. We had to resort to street parking, but that wasn't a problem for us at all. We were the only customers in at the time, and for most of our visit (11am on a Tuesday is probably not a high volume time). Sometimes that can be an awkward situation, but the server Katy was exactly the right level of talkative and letting-us-enjoy-ourselves-ness. She helped set the wonderful tone for the rest of our visit! Katy is A+!! We initially intended to each get a flight of 4 and then move on the stop we had planned. But...that was not to be so. Which was JUST FINE by me! We each ended up getting a couple extra sample sized ones to try...and we very easily could have stayed here all day just drinking the delicious brews! This is my new favorite brewery, for sure! So good, I would make a trip to Nashville *just* for Southern Grist! My initial flight consisted of four pink beers. Not on purpose, but I'm not mad at it. Pineapple Raspberry Hill. Caprison.Teal Skies. Best Birthday Ever. After those I also tried the Batida w/ Raspberries and....something else. The Fella let me try some of his ones too. They were all just...delicious. It really came down to which ones were my absolute favorites. Because, since they aren't distributed near me (as far as I can tell), I was not going to leave without some to bring home! They have some of their offerings available in 4-packs. Those that aren't can be bought in crowlers. And I think most can be bought in growler size. I couldn't decide on just one, so I got two crowlers to bring home, of the Batida and one other one that I can't recall at the moment. Had I more ample a bank account...I would have bought a crowler of every single thing! Really, though, the space is cool and bright and clean. The beer is freakin' delicious! And if Katy is representative of the rest of the employees, the staff is wonderful. I live in another state...but I can basically guarantee that I WILL be back.

Yelp
Great service, great food, fantastic beer! Beer options very creative and interesting. Good selection on menu items that don't disappoint!

Yelp
Having tried every single brewery in Nashville, Southern Grist is the best in Nashville hands down. After trying around 15 of their beers, I have yet to try a beer than I would put below a 7/10. Most are around the 9/10 or 10/10 range. My two favorites are definitely the Strawberry Upside Down Cake Double IPA and the Mixed Greens IPA that they have had recently. The Painkiller Stout and their lactose brown ale (I forgot the name of it) are also incredible. It's also awesome that Subculture has been setting up shop right next to them to provide awesome food to an awesome tap room. I wish Southern Grist & Subculture did a permanent partnership. Both are 10/10, in my opinion, and compliment each other incredibly well. Definitely stop by if you're a beer enthusiast. Could not recommend this place enough UPDATE: Have tried over 80 of their beers now. Still the best in town by a long shot

Yelp
It was my first time here today and I thought it was a pretty nice hang out. You just walk to the counter and tell them your order. They had a lot of different options and I actually prefer light beers, so I tried the Southern Grist and the #15. I liked them both, but I liked the #15 more. I liked that it had an option for outdoor seating. I was there early in the day around 2pm, and it was pretty packed. I think the prices here are pretty decent, too.

Lindsay O.

Yelp
I love sours and Southern Grist has a great selection of sours!! I even tried one of their dark beers with Oreos and that was pretty tasty too! I went with a friend and we got to enjoy their patio and catchup!

Yelp
While in Nashville, this is THE brewery to visit! I had so much fun here! The selection of beers was good, and all the ones I tried were delicious. I'm an IPA kind of guy and was not disappointed. I had a brief chat with Jaime, the owner, and turns out he's an awesome good dude overall. Another best part about this place is the open seating. The staff was very attentive and even gave a rundown on why some beers are named what they are. It was a 10/10 experience. Can't wait to come here again!

Yelp
Tonight was my first time to SGB Nations and I sure hope I have many more to come! They have a few differences between the Nations taproom and the East Nashville taproom do check Untappd for their selections. SGB is one of my favorite breweries in the country, especially in the southeast. They do a killer job on NEIPA, stouts (esp adjunct stouts), and sours (esp the heavily fruited sours). Everything they had available on draft was either available in cans or crowlers (I picked up two four packs tonight which I'm sure will be delicious). They have several large screens and a large projector screen for showing games. The outdoor area is kind of small but looked like it will be great on a warmer day. The two bartenders were awesome! They talked about the beers with enthusiasm and had great suggestions. I will be back!
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Southern Grist and I was very impressed! I'm not a big beer fan but their sours are AMAZING! They have a nice patio too and are pet friendly

Yelp
Great beer, great staff, and great atmosphere! A must stop for any craft beer lover in Nashville.

Yelp
I absolutely adore Southern Grist. I really wish we were able to get their beers in Wisconsin (maybe someday)! In the meantime, I would go back to Nashville with hitting up the brewery as one of my main reasons for returning. We visited both brewery locations in the same weekend. Southern Grist is now one of my favorite breweries. The service is excellent - friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming. The prices are good, and the build-your-own flight is a great option for new visitors. Bonus - a little discount on beer to go with the flight card. We definitely took advantage of this and brought some cans back in our luggage. The sour and fruited beers really stand out, but everything we tried was delicious. Southern Grist is a must-visit in Nashville. One of my favorite parts of our trip was drinking delicious beers and playing cribbage (yes, they have games too!) at the East Nashville Taproom on a winter afternoon. The Nations location was great as well, although a little more of an industrial feel, and I don't recall if they had any games available. The Nations location is close enough to Fat Bottom Brewery to do both in one evening, and not a bad walk.

Yelp
Hipster vibe, in an awesome old/renovated bldg, warehouse-y atmosphere. Nice logo, used repetitively in art. Heavy on sours this week, another week had a bunch of IPA. "Haul" milk stout is a keeper, reminiscent of bearded iris' moon dust. Lotsa younguns hanging out in small group, male & female. Trek to the bathroom wayyyy down the hall. Had cider. No wine, even though its displayed on top shelf (wonky!) tip: park over by loading dock!

Yelp
We really enjoyed checking out this second location of Southern Grist. After experiencing the original location a few times this one felt completely different. It wasn't different in a bad way, but each location just has its own vibe. I would choose to visit the one that matches my mood. This location felt very contemporary, upbeat and fast paced where the original felt more low key, casual and intimate. The flights are always fantastic at Southern Grist, and I love the variety of flavors they incorporate into their beer. Many places try to incorporate fruits, herbs and flavors just for the novelty, but it feels like Southern Grist takes the time to ensure the flavors mesh perfectly. The Blueberry Cobbler sour is to die for! I think you'll like it even if you dislike sours.

Yelp
Some of the most creative and tasty beers in the U.S. and it's basically in my backyard! Fruited sours & pastry stouts are my favorites here. Key Lime Pie, Marbits (IPA with lucky charms marshmallows), Neopolitan Stout, Coco Crisp (coffee coconut lager), and almost every XYZ Hill are not to be missed!!

Yelp
15 beers on tap of all experimental interesting styles. Wow. If you want to try funky beers that span hazy IPAs to Sours to Stouts, definitely come here! This has to be the most unique making brewery in the city. Flights available. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. Food truck. Would definitely come back to try all the other insane styles like a sour with mango, berry, Ethiopian coffee, and lactose.

Yelp
As a fan of Southern Grist's East Nashville taproom, I was excited to see that they had opened a second location in the Nations! My husband and I had reservations for dinner at Nicky's, and we decided to stop by for a few beers at Southern Grist after dinner. They still have a great selection of beers (although their sour-forward menu is why I love to go to Southern Grist), and it's a large second location. It was a bit chilly when we were there (up and down March weather), but there were lots of tables inside and many more outside (none of which were being used on this particular night). Despite there being another large brewery in this part of town now, I think Southern Grist is a great addition to the Nations area!

Yelp
The OG Southern Grist in East Nash is definitely my favorite of the 2 locations, but the Nations locations definitely offers a vibe of its own. The Nations location has less charm than the East Nash one does, & instead is more modern, new, & trendier. You've got menus on TVs along the bar and plenty of indoor seating. The layout and decor are not very imaginative however and leave a lot to be desired. In my opinion, the biggest pro about the Nations location is the outdoor seating! They have a patio outback with about 6 tables or so, although only 2 of them offer umbrella shading. Like the inside, the outside is pretty bare bones. As for the beer, I've always been a fan of the beers at Southern Grist, and definitely recommend a visit for any craft beer fans. Also, they offer crowlers for pretty much every beer they have on tap.

Yelp
This was such a great spot. It is spacious with a LOT of beer choices, including slushees. You can get flights of your choice. You can get short pours and full pours. This is a place for anyone and everyone! Our preference were the IPAs and the sours. Yum! There were plenty of parking spaces on a Saturday night too! When you're there you can also check out the neighboring businesses.

Yelp
The Southern Grist Brewing company has two locations in the Nashville area and this was my experience sampling their beer. This location in particular was relatively small but the taproom was nice and the beer selection was fairly large; I noticed most of the beers on tap were either IPAs or New England IPAs so if your into that beer style this is your place. One thing I disliked was almost all beers were served in 10 oz glasses with a 16oz price and the beer I purchased which was named Noise Pollution was good but had a harsh bitterness at the finish. Overall, the place is good but nothing to drive out of the way or be upset about if you miss it.

Yelp
Of all the breweries I've been to in Nashville this one is BY FAR the best one. The beer is so unique and full of flavor. You get exactly what you order in regard to the flavors that they are going for in their beers. I've never been to a brewery with so many cool options - coconut IPA, margarita gose, banana daiquiri....the list goes on and on. They even had a frozen strawberry banana daiquiri beer that was SO BOMB. Solid place with solid beer, if you haven't been yet you gotta go check it out! The other breweries in Nashville are basic and weak in comparison.

Yelp
Ok I've been here numerous times and it's usually the first place I hit up when coming to Nashville. If you like sour beers, you'll love this place. In fact, I like them better than Side Project back home (yeah, they're that good). Their to-go 4pks are not cheap but they're definitely worth it. I'm drinking my final The Hill one right now & I'm dreading not having anymore after this... This is the reason I'm coming back to Nashville so frequently.

Yelp
I ordered some beer for delivery via the website and it was delivered today. I absolutely love all of the fun and funky varieties of beer you all create, definitely the best micro brewery here in town. After the delivery driver left I got a text that he saw the beer stickers on my car and left a stack to add SGB to represent! This was so thoughtful and such a kind act during such stressful times. Thank you for being open and delivering your yummy goodness!!!

Yelp
This brewery is the BEST. The taproom is decent, but most importantly the beer is so delicious and interesting. The taproom has a menu from a bbq food truck located outside, but I've also been there when another food truck was there and served the most delicious loaded homemade potato chips. Note: the menu is different here than the Eastside taproom. They also have games, TVs and an outside patio to sit. Parking is iffy depending on what's going on around the area, but you can find parking right nearby if there isn't anything in the lot. And now, the beer. I'm the person who wants to try the weirdest, most unique beers out there. This place is right up my alley (though I've been places with way weirder blends)... You'll find a lot of IPAs and spurs here. A recent Trent it seems, a lot of their beers have lactose in them which I find a nice addition. I'm not a huge IPA fan but I've had numerous fantastic IPAs here, including a "cereal marshmallow" (lucky charms) IPA--to die for--and a riesling NEIPA more recently. Their sours often feature a plethora of fruits. I mean, I could go on but JUST GO!!!! Do yourself a favor and get a flight. Try them all. So happy to have Southern Grist in The Nations!

Yelp
The new Southern Grist taproom takes a good thing and makes it even better. I'm no beer expert, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I love everything on tap here. Their stouts are awesome. Their IPAs are awesome. Their sours are awesome, and I usually don't even like sours. I got a flight, then felt intrigued enough by the other options on the menu to return for another. The new taproom is also really cool, and totally different from the other East Nashville location. The East Nashville one is your "traditional" brewery setting: a low-key, casual setting; board games and BYO foods; and families with kids and pets in tow. The Nations taproom has more of an "industrial meets 'clubby'" sort of vibe ... it's the place where you could kick off, or wrap up, a great night out. It's definitely different from what you'd expect for a brewery, so if you're more of a fan of the laid-back setting, maybe head over to the East Nashville taproom instead. TL;DR: Southern Grist is DEFINITELY in the top 3 of Nashville breweries, and could well be the best of 'em all. Go here.

Yelp
These ipas make bearded iris look weak If you like hazy ipas, sour beer, and sweet stouts; this place is top 1. Service very friendly. I like that they release new beers every week. Sour fruited beers are phenomenal Get a flight, try some stuff. This is the best beer in Tennessee, possibly in the south

Yelp
This is a review of a failed visit to this location. As such to be clear off the bat, we did not enjoy any of the things they have to offer for the reasons described below. "Why do we always assume everyone knows where to stick it? Suppose you're a new guy" - George Carlin This is what was ringing through my head during our visit to The Nations Taproom. We didn't know where to stick it when we arrived. We walked in, and it was fairly busy, so it appeared to be seat yourself, and with nobody to tell us otherwise we walked over and sat down at a table. Everyone took out menus and started looking at them. Time passed. More time passed. Everyone looked at everyone. Finally I was told to go ask someone "Where to stick it". I inquired to one of the many people standing behind the bar about what we should do next: "If you want beer, order from us, if you want food we'll send Tom (probably not his name) over". We did. They did. Tom (probably not his name) showed up to take our order "Oh sorry we are out of that" he said after we placed our first order. It turns out the food at The Nations Taproom is courtesy of a Food Truck parked OUTSIDE the Nations Taproom. They stated that in a future time they plan to build an actual kitchen as part of the location to better accommodate those who are hungry as well as thirsty, but as that time was not today and we WERE hungry we departed without having anything. To be clear, I'm excited to have a groovy taproom in the Nations, but I would urge the owners to remember that everyone who arrives hasn't been there before and don't always know "Where to stick it".
