Customer service 7/10 Food 6/10 Price 3/10 ** There is a 20% gratuity added to your check for large parties over 5*(each guest) First, we came for a birthday dinner and was instructed to wait for at least 10 people to show up. That’s normal no problem there. We were seated and waited an extra 8-10mins for a server to take our drink order. Ok cool, but was it? The sweet tea and lemonade are made with simple syrup and that’s all you will taste. I know some of the guest left with diabetes because the drinks were so sweet. Second, the food came out pretty quick. Although, my husband had to wait about 2-3 extra mins for his while everyone was eating. I got the blackened catfish and I wouldn’t recommended it. He got the Fish and shrimp and it was decent( not too salty). For appetizer I got the fried pickles and most of the breading was in the cup they came in. Not worth the $12 for 6 pickles. Third, the atmosphere was great. They had a jazz band on Friday night. Will I return: No, the price for the food isn’t worth it.

The food was spectacular! Had a reservation through Open Table. The hostess was friendly, smiled and ready to seat us. It took a few minutes for a server to come but when she did, she was very friendly and offered several menu options. The Arnold Palmer was the right blend of lemonade and tea. We tried the Turkey wings which were delicious along with the fried pork chop, mac and cheese, collards, black eyed peas, and fried cabbage and the cornbread basket. Everything was scrumptious and we had enough to take home for another meal, given the large portion sizes. The ambience is nice and makes for a pleasant dining experience. Next time, we will have to try the dessert options.

Experience was a 20/10. I drove an hour to try it and they didn’t disappoint. From attentive waiters to fresh and hot food. I would go everyday if I was close. The southern eggroll was amazing. I had the catfish and shrimp were amazing the sides are good portions as well and super delicious. The hot sauce selection was not great I would bring some Louisiana hot sauce but that’s me. Ouu and you will burn your mouth if you try to eat immediately as it comes out. Our waiter was amazing as well big swole guy.

The location and ambiance provided was gorgeous. The holiday decorations amplified this effect. I came at 9pm so we had many different servers but it was decent. Where I think things got lost was with the food. The entrees were good: Smothered pork chops were good. The Fried Chicken (white meat) was good but there was more parsley on the plate than meat on the breast (see picture). The sides needed work: Mac and cheese- great moderately decent no real complaints. Yams/Sweet Potatoes- too sweet ( maybe too many different types of sugars) it needed butter, real vanilla extract, molasses ( alaga), and more cinnamon and nutmeg. It would make it taste more robust and not just like SWEET potatoes Cabbage- it was sooooo salty it tasted like SpongeBob made it Green beans and Collards- The issue was the turkey that was used had the skin on it when it was cooked. You could taste the wet poultry skin in the greens. It was unsettling. If it was cooked separately, then skinned shredded and added the greens would have a much better change. Also needed the addition of real garlic, cayenne pepper, dash of sugar and vinegar Overall, I understand it's southern cooking but it doesn't have to taste like we haven't elevated our palate over the years.

Recently stopped in for dinner, service was above average for a soul food spot as well as ambiance, turkey wing platter w green beans and mash was really good, the collards were cut too large and lacked flavor, mac&cheese was really good, more salt than flavor but good. Fried chicken and waffles was decent not as much flavor in the chicken but fried well w a light batter. Meals a bit pricey but don’t have anything to compare to in that area. Loved the up scale-ish vibe.

Stopped in for an early dinner. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming with great music. All the staff were friendly and professional. Had the fried okra and cornbread. Both were fresh and hot. The cornbread was bout of this world nice and buttery. I ordered the Cajun pasta which was creamy with well seasoned shrimp. The only critique I had was the lemonade was far too sweet and the friend chicken was small and a bit dry for the price ($28)! Other than that I would go back!

Walking in the place was beautiful. From looking at the menu on line I was excited for what seemed like an upscale country or soulfood restaurant. The fried pickles were fantastic and the cornbread was as good as the menu promised. Unfortunately that was the best. The rest of the meal left me trying to identify what was missing. While the food was good it was not great. Too many items were missing seasoning or something to push them over the top. The food needed to match the ambiance. Maybe salt and pepper shakers on the table would have been a nice touch. I like to trust that the kitchen staff under the direction of the Chef would season the meal so that salt on the table would be unnecessary. I then had the peach cobbler! If the entrees had been as good as the cobbler I would have given 5 stars!!!

I took my husband here for his birthday. This was our first time at this location and it is absolutely beautiful inside and out.We were definitely feeling the vibe. My husband loved the mixture of Jazz playing. It has a lot of space and the parking is a plus. I had the 3 piece fish meal and my husband had the baked chicken and gravy. He said the chicken was a little dry but the gravy helped it. The drinks were great and the service was awesome!! We will definitely be back!!

I normally don't do a 5 unless everything is exceptional. However, this place deserves more than a 4. Catfish bites and sauce were amazing. The yams were probably the best I've ever had. Fries and ranch were yummy and the ranch wasn't watered down. The original roll... was crispy and the fried chicken inside was delicious. I wasn't a fan of the sauce since I don't like sweet with my regular food, and the greens inside the roll changed the taste significantly. Not a fan of the greens inside the roll, because it's all I could taste really. Super friendly staff and very attentive. Very nice dining area and bathroom was very clean.

Terrible response trying to reserve for a large party. System not user friendly...telephone effort even worse.

I always enjoy the service here. It is so clean. They welcome you with a smile and I've had 4 different people do my nails and each time, it's been an amazing experience.

All southern food restaurants are not created equal. Southern Kitchen is a fan fave in the Richmond area. The overall ambiance is nice, but the service is a tad slow. If you're looking to spend some time and not in a rush then this is the place for you. The food is a little pricey, but I guess it comes with an experience! The salmon cake sandwich is $20 and the fried fish entree started at $28. The main courses were seasoned well. The sides could use a little more love. They weren't bad, but when you come from a southern country family your expectations are high!

Highly requested, a challenge to get a booking, and I see why!! Starting from the grand view when you walk in to the beautiful furniture. We had the pleasure of being seated in the private room last Saturday for my brother's graduation dinner. The cornbread muffins were TOO GOOD! I wish I could order some to Houston right now. We had a large group and everyone enjoyed their food from the meatloaf and fried fish to the turkey wings. I enjoyed the cabbage and mac n cheese. Only regret is I didn't order dessert. We were honestly too full for anything else. Our waiter did well considering how busy it was. Hostesses could've been a bit more welcoming but overall a good experience

As someone who truly loves soul food, anytime I can enjoy it without cooking it myself is already a win--but Southern Kitchen took that experience to another level. Every time I visit Richmond, I try to find at least one solid soul food spot, and this time, I stumbled across Southern Kitchen--and I'm so glad I did. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed. The atmosphere is clean, welcoming, and surprisingly upscale for a soul food joint. It's clear they take pride not only in the food but also in the full dining experience. Our server, Jayden, was an absolute sweetheart--attentive and kind, adding to the overall warmth of the evening. Now let's talk about the food--hot, flavorful, and plated beautifully. I ordered the Catfish and Shrimp with Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens, and Yams. Every bite was seasoned to perfection, comforting yet elevated, and left me full and smiling. This place has earned a permanent spot on my Richmond rotation. I honestly can't wait to return!

YES!!! Exceptional Experience at Southern Kitchen, located at 9210 Stony Point Parkway, Richmond, VA 23235. Its hard to found Southern dining that meets my satisfaction when my entire family including myself was raised to cook some of the best Southern dinners. I often leave Southern style restaurants saying "I could have made this at home"... this was not the case We ordered the Fried Catfish Bites, Buttery Cornbread Muffins, Pineapple Upside-Down Cocktail, Sangria, Turkey Wings with cabbage and mac & cheese, and BBQ Fried Chicken with collard greens and sweet potatoes. This dining experience was flawless, with no shortcomings. Ratings: Food - 10/10, Service - 10/10, Drinks - 10/10. The ambiance featured light R&B music in a beautifully designed dining room, creating a perfect atmosphere. Even the ladies' room was tastefully decorated. It is evident that owner Shane Roberts-Thomas successfully achieved her.goal of creating a fine dining experience serving Southern-style cuisine. Our waitress, Jayden, was knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations. The only disappointment was their is not a location in Charlotte, NC, which may warrant a road trip. Update: new location *make a reservation* I saw people being turned away on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. It's bright and cheery in here! I love the instrumental Playlist, mostly filled with 90s R&B. The vibe is so good! It took about 10 minutes before our waitress came over but after that....her service was on point. We ordered our apps + drinks and each came out less than 15 minutes. The soul egg rolls were ok; the honey dipping sauce helped. The shrimp appetizer was delicious- perfectly fried shrimp with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. We had two orders of the fried chicken entrée and one turkey wing entrée. There was nothing on our plates that was not good! My friend "cut" the yams with greens but I ate my straight no chaser...I loved how sweet and perfect they were. The greens on my plate as a side were better than the ones in the Southern roll - same for the chicken. The Kitchen Sink and Shane's lemonade were great 21+ drinks for our meals. We skipped dessert but had plenty of food to bring home.

The restaurant was modern designed with the theme of black and white with hints of other colors. Even to the bathroom which was decorated with a modern style. The food tasted like home southern food. I will rate the food 8/10 based on flavor, presentation, and quality. I will rate the service 8/10 based on our waitress being nice and attentive.

Love Southwrn Kitchen and recently had a chance to visit their new spot in Stiny Point. The restaurant is very beautiful inside and super spacious! They even have a private dining area for people who may want to hose more intimate events. The service is still spectacular and the food is great! They still have their Happy Hour menu as well. My only grievances are that everything on the menu is almost $1-$3 more and there is no more complimentary corn bread.

This place is much bigger than I anticipated. The lighting is very cute and chic. We were seated right away then just sat there for quite some time while several staff members walked by. Eventually someone walked up to give us some water. We were ready to order but had to go to the bar area to order anything for happy hour. Bartender was very nice and helping train some of the other staff members. We ordered the sliders, pepperoni flatbread and sweet chili wings. Everything came out nice and hot which I appreciated. The sliders didn't really have much flavor or have a sauce. The flatbread was very bland. I didn't try the wings but hubby rated the wings a 7. I was able to try the apple cobbler and it was okay. I would definitely have been disappointed if I had paid $15 dollars for it. Overall the happy hour offerings sound good but do not deliver on flavor. Can't see myself returning here by choice.

Although we didn't dine during this visit, our experience at Southern Kitchen's Stony Point location was absolutely wonderful. We sat at the bar for a drink and were immediately impressed by the warm and welcoming customer service. We were greeted twice, once by a staff member and again by the owner, who even stopped by for a brief, friendly chat that made us feel truly valued. The interior is elegant and beautifully designed, creating a refined yet comfortable atmosphere. Having enjoyed their food at their previous location, I'm even more excited to return and experience the menu at this new setting. With service and ambiance like this, I have no doubt the dining experience will be just as amazing!

I didn't realize Southern Kitchen was at Stonypoint Fashion Mall in the spot where Brio's used to be, I treated my (Pescatarian) daughter for her 30th birthday. My daughter had the blackened salmon in which she thoroughly enjoyed it was cooked to perfection, she had white rice and yams as her sides. My daughter also had the drink Kitchen Sink which she had no problem gulping down. I had the fall off the bone turkey wings with gravy and onions, so DELICIOUS!!! I had the collard greens and string beans, which were way too salty, the taste of the greens were a little disappointing and I was surprised the string beans were not fresh but canned beans instead. I will say I got the southern roll as an appetizer, absolute PERFECTION I could have eaten two. This restaurant would be a hit if they would ease up on the salt.

I went to a Christmas dinner here with my non profit and were excited for the opportunity to try the new location out. We were seated right away on a Wednesday night at 630. Our server was great, she made sure I was comfortable while waiting for the whole party to arrive and explained what was on the menu. I started with a sweet tea, and we ordered cornbread as an appetizer. It was the perfect little starter before our meal came. For my entree, I chose blackened catfish, collard greens and Mac n cheese. Everything was really delicious. Collards were perfect, Mac was a smidge salty at the bottom, but overall it was great, and blackened fish was perfectly cooked. I do recommend this place, but have to warn that they are pricey. The good news is the food was good so that helped us get past the cost. I would absolutely go back again and I recommend it for some good southern food.

Came Sunday for an early dinner. It's a nice open restaurant and probably anywhere you choose to sit you won't feel like anyone is too close. The service was prompt and friendly, offering suggestions when asked about the menu. Food included fried pork chops, chicken fried steak and cornbread. He really liked their style of cornbread, I didn't. The pork was very good, but it might have been just a touch overcooked. He was disappointed that the toast was a bit stale. The candied yams live up to their name, no mistake.. if you know what I mean, and the collard greens were great. Their house margarita was excellent, wouldn't hesitate to order that again. Overall worth another visit.

Everything was delicious!!! I was extra excited to try the Southern egg rolls, very interesting concept but I wasn't disappoint, it came with some really good sauce! Chicken was perfectly fried, shrimp perfect fried, the salmon cake was just the way I remember it growing up! Most importantly the collard greens, Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes was on point!! I got a nice little spread for my friend who was visiting in town so we ordered in and ate good! I went in to pick up and I've always wanted to go in and see the interior which is very upscale southern style ambience! And service was quick, and friendly, you can tell the staff love what they do, I mean it's one of the best known restaurant in RVA. I can see why so many celebs come here and why it's so popular the food definitely backs up the hype!

Well, I can't tell you about the food because I couldn't eat here. I wanted to eat in a booth as a single woman . There were 2 booths open and I asked if they were reserved , the hostess said no but, you need at least 2 people to be able to sit in a booth. I could understand if the booths were reserved but they were not and it was around 3 in the afternoon on a Saturday and was not busy . Make this make sense . .. this is poor customer service at its finest and as a business woman I chose to take my money elsewhere.

We were in Richmond for the night and decided to look for a black/brown establishment to eat dinner. The valet at the Omni, Kanisha, suggested Southern Kitchen. We made reservations as suggested on the website. I loved the location in the historic Jackson Ward!! We came in to a great jazzy playlist that set the vibe. We were seated and our server was very attentive. This was our first time so he was patient and made some great recommendations. The buttered cornbread muffins were delicious. We ordered the "egg rolls" but they did not come before our food was served. When we inquired, he thought we were just ordering. It was clear he did not hear us over the music. Let me pause to say the playlist was great, just a little loud for a place that the servers need to hear to take orders. We had to raise our voice a little louder than usual to have a conversation. We decided not to talk and just enjoy the food. We ordered the moscato, sweet tea, and the strawberry lemonade. See the pics. Yes, that was a fresh cut strawberry in the glass! YUMMI The food: The blacked catfish was on point and seasoned well. The fried cabbage was good until you got to the bottom where it was a little too salty. The yams..... WERE PERFECT!! If you are going to candy yams, it should be ooey gooey!! This was EXACTLY as they should be. (I need you to show another restaurant what that means!) The fresh cut fries were spot on and hot! (Hot like heat not spice) The collards would be perfect but someone decided to cook the leaves whole. They were seasoned right otherwise. The Mac n cheese was good. The fried whiting and shrimp were great!! The scald on them were simply southern and perfect!! They had zero desserts the day we went per the server. Great place to eat, parking is ample (street or lot). Not far off of I95 for those traveling through the area. Keep up the great work!!

Southern kitchen is a RVA staple restaurant. You can't come to Richmond, without having Southern Kitchen. Period point blank. Delicious as ever. And this new location, well, it's the bee's knees. NOW a five star environment,, GO SOUTHERN KITCHEN! GO MS. SHANE!! We love you!! People who are scrolling!! GO NOW‼ ENJOY‼ Nuff said.

From the moment we walked into the restaurant we knew it was going to be a great experience. The staff was friendly & welcoming and the food was even better. Hubs enjoyed pork chops, while I enjoyed shrimp & grits. It was a quite a treat.

Had a team dinner here and was just blown away away by everything I put in my mouth. For starters we ordered the egg rolls, salmon bits, catfish bites and everything was fresh hot and delicious. The placed was also packed so I was pleased to have my food come out in a decent amount of time. Not one complaints from anyone at the table, we were too busy chowing down. I ordered the turkey wings with the gravy on the side and just wish I was at home to really eat that up. It was oh soo good. I also sampled the fried chicken and a piece of waffle and it was also very good. Let hope this services says this way. Looking forward to dinning there again

Good: The bun was beautifully buttered and toasted Bad: Crab cakes were basic and probably frozen... Ugly: Market price was absurd!

TL;DR: Southern Kitchen has two new Super Fans. This is a well-run restaurant that demonstrates care in every domain - the interior, the service, and the quality and preparation of the food. The Details: Location: Conveniently off Chippenham Parkway in the Stony Point shopping mall. Plenty of free parking. Atmosphere: Lovely, clean, and approachable for all types of patrons - families, couples, friends. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. Best of all, the acoustics were good, meaning you can actually have a conversation with your meal mate. The water carafe was a nice touch. Service: Impeccable. The hostess was genuinely friendly. Our server, Sookie, made us feel very well-attended to - we had everything we needed before we even realized we needed it. The bus boy was observant and quick to remove old plates. Everyone we encountered proved to be proactive, conscientious employees. If I owned a restaurant, I'd be trying to poach all of them (and I don't mean that in the culinary way!). Food We Ordered: Appetizer 1: Cornbread - while these were delicious, they were not traditional cornbread. They reminded us of vanilla cupcakes w/melted butter over the top. Would order these again, but at the end of the meal as our dessert. Appetizer 2: Fried Okra - fantastic. This was our first time having fried okra and we were nervous, having heard how difficult it is to prepare it correctly so it's not slimy. It was crispy and the breading was nicely seasoned. Entrée 1: "Big Momma's Fried Chicken" (with white meat and BBQ sauce) - exceptional. My husband is not one to ever eat meat off the bone, yet he sat across from me trying to eat the last bit of chicken from the carcass when he could not remove it with his fork. The BBQ sauce had a slight Asian tang to it - wonderful. Entrée 2: "Smothered Pork Chops" (as fried, not grilled) - the pork chops were impressively juicy and the breading stayed crispy under the generous helping of brown gravy. Bonus: The onions were not overly caramelized but maintained their onion-y-ness, which played well with the gravy. Side: Black-Eyed Peas w/ Stewed Tomatoes - flavorful and the textures were spot on. Side: Mashed Potatoes w/ Brown Gravy - the chef must have made a deal with the devil to create these incredibly light and fluffy potatoes. The technique was masterful. We may get all of our sides as mashed potatoes next time. And maybe even our appetizers. Side: Cheesy Grits - perfectly cooked. I'd actually order them without cheese next time, but that's just personal preference. Side: Black-Eyed Peas (plain) - good texture and just the right amount of salt. Dessert: Apple Cobbler - we took this to go and are still too full to eat it, but anticipate that it'll be as good as everything else was!

First of all. When it comes to my people ? We gone show out !!!! And southern kitchen did just that !!!! The atmosphere was amazing I felt right at home. It was my 20th birthday and this was my first time. I order smothered pork chops with gravy and onions. with Mac & cheese, corn bread and collard greens and a strawberry lemonade. Everything was delicious and it was even better the next day as left overs. The music was giving jazz but me and my sister were playing guess the song and had a ball lol. 12/10 recommend especially for birthday or family gatherings. I also met a lovely woman who has the same birthday as me. And the ladies restroom was my absolute favorite because I love Marilyn Monroe and they had her pictures all over the wall. So cute !!!

Ok!!! Applause !! This place totally hit the mark! EVERYTHING was PERFECT!! Seasoning perfect! Portions PERFECT! Service BEYOND PEEFECT!! Drove to the mall to shop and followed the good smell straight to the door! This a must try if you're in the Stony Point area

We decided to go to Southern Kitchen for a post Christmas dinner. The person at the front desk acted like she had never been there before. No one was being seated. We had a reservation but that quickly went past. We were finally seated and our waiter was wonderful. He met all of our needs throughout dinner. The most disappointing thing that happened that night was the food. I was very excited to taste some great Southern food. When our food arrived everything was just as we had ordered. The portions were very large. When we tasted the food it was extremely salty. Everyone at the table, who all ordered different entries, said how salty their food was. This was very disappointing. After dinner we asked about dessert. He said dessert was bread pudding. I asked about the cobbler listed on the menu and was told there was no cobbler. This is a lovely restaurant, although the music was so loud we could barely hear what the person on the other side of the table was saying. I was very excited to visit this restaurant none of us had eaten there before. After this experience, I will not be back.

Phenomenal experience and cuisine. First time dining and it will not be our last. Being a SC native, I felt the food lived up to the hype. The southern egg rolls were 5 stars! We had a large variety of entrees and were able to share a bite with members of my party. The portion size was excellent for the price. A very nice ambiance and not very noisy. Tommy, our server, gave great menu suggestions and was very attentive to our needs. He also had a great personality. The manager and hostess were very friendly and made you feel welcomed. Great hospitality and food! Highly recommend.

The food was really good and so was the service. I got the smothered pork chops (fried) with greens and candied yams. I had to deduct a star because the cell service is terrible (they have wifi but not for customers) and I wasn't advised that ordering extra gravy would be an up charge.

I did not receive the wow factor that I expected, but I will return again to try a different dish and support an independent black-owned business. The catfish and yams tasted okay, but the food was overall too salty. The black eyed peas, pork chops, catfish, and mac-n-cheese were salty. I was disappointed, especially considering the noise coming from the kitchen. There was unprofessional loud talking, laughing, and joking coming from the kitchen. I almost cancelled my order due to the ill vibe.

We were seated at 11:00 am when they opened. I went to the ladies' room. It was neat and clean. The restaurant was neat and pristine clean. The waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and responsive. We lingered a little and we didn't feel rushed. The food was excellent. I had the fried shrimp for the appetizer, fried catfish greens and mac n cheese. Someone ordered corn bread, it was okay. Overall, I rate 5 stars for Black History month. It's a black owned business. The dining room is huge. It's good for a group. I dined with 5 other ladies. Everyone raved about the food and the service.

The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was amazing! I sat at the bar, and William was my server/bartender. Despite the busyness of a Sunday, he handled everything seamlessly -- my cup literally never went empty! The atmosphere is versatile and welcoming, making it perfect for a solo trip, date night, outing with friends, or even a family dinner. Highly recommend!

Had lunch today at Southern Kitchen with friends. We were greeted by a very pretty, friendly hostess and seated immediately since I had made reservations. The decor is quite beautiful.Our server, Alexis, was excellent, and so was our delicious lunch!! Absolutely yummy! Hot and flavorful! Lynne, the manager, came around to make sure all was well. Lovely lady and very on top of things! Great restaurant and we will definitely go back!!

My sister was at her chemo treatment and really wanted meatloaf from Southern Kitchen, so I ordered it for her to give her some comfort during a difficult day. Unfortunately, the meatloaf that arrived was burnt and dry, she couldn't even eat it. It was really upsetting, epically because she was looking forward to that meal so much. I hope the restaurant takes more care with their food in the future, epically when people are counting on it for comfort and nourishment.

Southern Kitchen was DELICIOUS! The name describes this place very well. We visited the old location downtown and I will say I did not like the parking situation or location at all. They have since relocated and I look forward to visiting the new location. Upon entering this place was beautiful and nicely decorated. Unfortunately the seats where we were seated were dirty (we arrived at opening). The menu nor the food was a disappointment! That food was so good, I was dancing in my seat. It reminded me of our family get togethers when everyone brings their best dish, or dinner at grandmas! The portion size was great along with the taste, so the price was justified. And they get bonus points for those amazing cornbread starters! Recommend

This was my first time at Southern Kitchen on a Sunday and the wait was about 2 hours long. Luckily, we saw an availability at the bar after about 20 mins of waiting. The waitress was eating finger foods while serving and didn't bother to wash her hands while making our drinks and bringing our bread we were instantly concerned. We asked for new bread and got new bread .. I hope lol. I ordered the Shane's strawberry lemonade and it was pretty good. I ordered Buffalo shrimp as an appetizer and let me tell you how FLAVORFUL they were. The best thing I had that day !!!! For my meal, I ordered the Turkey wings that was smothered in turkey gravy with greens and macaroni. I also got a side of rice and gravy. My turkey was sooooo tough and completely inedible. My sides were pretty good except the rice was half hard half soft. I told my waitress about my wings and she gave me a new batch, but they weren't the best either. My friend ordered the catfish and she said it was good. I would definitely try this place again and order something else.

Love this place as well! Love that it's Black Owned the whiting is my favorite along with the Mac and collards! The strawberry cake was so moist when they have it. I drive an hour to go here atleast once or twice out the month! If u like Croaker Spot you'll love this!

I ordered whiting because I do not like the sometimes earthy, muddy toast of catfish. I was wrong. My guests catfish was perfect. My whiting though perfectly prepared tasted muddy. I am allergic to soy and was to,d they did not fry in soybean oil. Something had soy because I was sick as we left restaurant. My main problem was the service. Plate as served with small slice of lemon and no cocktail and no tartar sauce. Our waitress was seldom seen. It took a long time to get tartar sauce and did not even bother to request lemon wedge. I ordered a drink which never arrived. When she finally appeared, she said I did not order drink. I ordered again but it appeared just before food arrived. The bill was a shock. My guest off menu drink special which no one liked cost $25.

Visited here last week for a birthday dinner. First of all, the space and ambience of the new location is amazing. Truly beautiful and plenty of room to breathe. Also love that there's ample parking available. Our waiter was pleasant and kind, however, he kept disappearing for long periods of time and when he would finally come back, he had forgotten what we asked him to bring the last time he came to our table. I get possibly being overwhelmed and perhaps they were short staffed but being that pricing of the food is not cheap, I expect upscale service to go along with it. The food was ok, but not up to par with the pricing. I had the blackened catfish with collard greens and mac & cheese. The catfish was greasy and salty, the collard greens were under seasoned and not cut up enough. The mac & cheese was really the only thing on my plate that I'd definitely get again if I chose to return. It took our waiter nearly 30 minutes to come with our check and when he did, our party was all charged a portion of the cornbread appetizer that only one person at our table ordered. We wondered if the waiter got us confused with another table's request. I heard great things about this restaurant when they were in their previous location and had high hopes for this one. I really want them to succeed, but they have a lot of room for improvement.

Wonderful experience for sure!!!! The food was absolutely delicious! So many menu option. Service was great and the atmosphere was stunning! I had my family of 10 for my Anniversary and we definitely enjoyed ourselves and will be returning. Thank you Southern Kitchen for the wonderful experience.

Ah-Maaaaay-Zin!!!!!! Friendly, timely, and so family oriented-I enjoyed the live band on Friday during my daughter's 35th Birthday dinner. The owner (Ms. Shane came out and introduced herself to my daughter as if she was her long lost niece. It was really the "cherry on top". that evening!

Service staff were very nice and attentive. Resturant was clean and the ambiance was very nice. I had the southern roll with greens and chicken....really good 5/5. I also had the fried catfish with Mac n cheese and fried cabbage. The fish was seasoned but not fried hard, actually fell apart. The Mac n cheese was just ok and the cabbage was sweet and soggy. Oh! The bread pudding wasn't good at all. But overall I will visit again and try a new dish. My check for one person was $60 + tip.

Food was good... start of service was slow... apologies were given and we enjoyed a good HOT meal. I will say the slow start (server appearing then the wait fornour drink), just keeping putting you in a certain mind set... in the end our server was pleasant and the hostess was gracious... Loved the vibe and esthetic of the restaurant. I would come back on GP for the food... you could tell that our food was cooked for us, as it still came out steaming!!! Love that feleling when I go out to eat... Till next time! Cheers

The food, ambiance and service is amazing I love this place!! One of my favorite restaurants in the City!!

We have eaten at Southern Kitchen and just can't go back. Food is generally good (at times sides are not warm enough), but the menu is so rigid - you can't get just chicken and a small salad. You have to have two sides. I'd like to try dessert, but I simply cannot eat so much food. Service is pretty good. Not great. Ambiance is unlike any soul food restaurant I've ever been too. Pretty, modern decor. Staff is snobby. You have to make a reservation even though every time we've been there the restaurant is practically empty. We saw them turn away a large party even though one entire side of the restaurant was empty. Prices are too high - almost $100 for two people with no alcohol or dessert. While we initially enjoyed the restaurant the rigid menu, reservation requirement, cost and snotty staff make it a place we don't enjo.

I was excited to try Southern Kitchen while on a day trip to Richmond. I think they're reservation only , and I was easily able to make a reservation about a week before. We arrived just after opening, so it was quiet, but the space was clean, inviting, and there was a great Playlist going. We had the cornbread, which comes complimentary and was delicious, as well ae shrimp and grits, catfish nuggets , and the southern egg roll. My favorite bites were the cornbread and the southern roll. Unfortunately, the shrimp and grits were disappointing. There was waaaay too much cheese on top of the grits and it wasn't properly mixed in. I ended up pushing globs of cheese to the side as I ate the meal. If I go back I'd definitely try the friend chicken and a few sides because the little sample I got from the egg roll was delicious. Service was 10/10!

We had a 5:15 reservation and was seated at 5:48. The female manager or owner did apologize and gave us a free appetizer for the inconvenience. The male manager was in the kitchen plating food with no gloves and then I saw him pull out his phone and went, back to touching food. HONEY...those complimentary muffins are EVERYTHING!!!! The food was good. The music is too loud for a restaurant establishment...we could barely have a conversation but it's a beautiful place.

Food, Service, & Ambiance all a 10! Highly recommend! If you haven't yet had the opportunity to try this resturant - add it to your Must Try list!
