The Best Restaurants in Arlington

"If you want a dose of good old-fashioned Southern food, hit this spot for lunch, dinner, or brunch on the weekends. The menu is kid-friendly, with chicken fingers and quesadillas that the little ones will enjoy. Adults are in for a treat, too, with dishes like blackened chicken salad with Cajun seasonings, chicken-fried steak, salmon, tilapia, fried shrimp, and an array of burgers and sandwiches. The dining room screams family-friendly, with its Shaker-inspired wood furniture, matching wood floors, and a traditional wood bar with ad hoc stained glass panes between the two." - Courtney E. The food was homestyle and delicious, portions are a good size! We also tried the key lime pie and chocolate cake (those however are small portions so not enough to share just one). Service was good and the decor was ok. It is an old house but goes along with the ambiance of home cooking! The dinner roll is yummy!!

First time eating here! We are here today with a large group of aqua members from LA Fitness. Very impress with the food presentation . Our waiter his name is Hurloch ,young polite and lots of energy took our order and received our food in timely manner. He also asked everyone if we needed a refill, and everything is OK! Absolutely!!! Hard to find good waiter and his the best I would come back the food was excellent and fresh! Atmosphere very cozy and clean! I HIGHLY recommend anyone couple ,single, family to come here to eat no regrets and ask for Hurloch !! Other staff also assisted him with the lunch great team work. Oh BTW this was his off day but he came in to work when called by his manager. He is a student, help him out when it comes to tips! He deserve it!!!🤗

Before eating at this restaurant, I checked out all of the reviews. They all sounded great and positive so I was looking forward to checking it out for the first time! And I must say, unfortunately, after eating my meal; I was disappointed! Everything tasted underseasoned, and the mixed veggies didn’t appear to be fresh and were a little bit more mushy than I would have liked for them to be. I ordered my food to go, so I can’t say a whole lot about the service. The atmosphere of the restaurant was giving cozy and homie so that was nice.

My first time dinning in and it was absolutely amazing! I had just had surgery the previous week and this was my first outing. Amy, our server was amazing. The owner came to our table and told us about the historical history of the restaurant. Our food was delicious and the Tequila Sunrises were refreshing. Thank you Amy for being so kind and personable.

First time there, it's like a country restaurant in the city. Menu has so much to offer. Choose a chicken sandwich with fries. It was done perfectly!! Wish I had taken a photo of it! Staff was very nice and professional! The place had a great atmosphere!

Hubby did two visits here last weekend with friends and family for dinner Saturday night and breakfast Sunday morning. Everyone said their food was excellent on both trips here. One order was for Steak (medium) and fried Shrimp with a cup of Soup, French Fries, Cooked corn and Rolls. The second order was for Blackened Salmon, Cup of Soup, Mashed Potatoes, Cinnamon Apples, and Corn Bread. The other two orders Chicken Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Corn, Black-eyed peas, Fried Okra, Green Salad and several orders of Chicken Gumbo. Breakfasts the next morning were several BYO and Southern omelets with grits, biscuits, gravy, hash browns, and an entree of Cinnamon Toast with apples, bacon, and syrup. They said all of the food was excellent and the portions ample. The prices were very good value. They would certainly return again and would definitely recommend. Excellent customer service from Amy and Bree.

Google
The best place I have ever been to eat in DFW area. I have never been more welcomed and satisfied by any place than southern recipes. Thank you for that all effort to create such an amazing atmosphere and food. Definitely will recommend anyone who is seeking for best fresh daily dishes.

Google
This place was recommended by a friend & I'm glad they told me about it! I've been in DFW for a long time & I'm sad that I just now discovered them. Affordable prices with portions that are just right. I had the beef philly (you can also get chicken), the filling was generous as the bun had it topped on both sides. The meat was tender, well seasoned, onions cooked perfectly (I am super picky about onions not cooked enough because I'm not a fan of raw onions), & the bun was toasty! Fries were nice & crispy. I also had a slice of chocolate mousse cake, this was a treat. It wasn't overly rich. My friend had a chicken sandwich with green beans, he was happy with that choice & my other friend also ordered the philly... no complaints from either of them! We had another friend join us last minute so we were there for over three hours, our waitresses had a shift change & both of them were so sweet... they didn't seem to mind us just chatting. The place seems really homey, down to earth. I will say the restroom needed a little love, they didn't seem too busy but I'm not sure if they had a lot of staff members working at the moment. My bill came out to $20 before tip, not bad. I would recommend you trying this place if you get a chance! I was sad to see that during our time there were only three or four tables at a time, including us in that count, were occupied. It's clear why they have been here for many years & I hope they will still be here for many more to come!

Yelp
everything i had was delicious and service was impeccable. Sully and Jenny made us feel right at home.

Yelp
Food usually is great and service they aim to please. Nice and quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Serves cocktails and beer. Everyone seems pleasant.
google avatar

Gracie L.

Yelp
Service was great! They were very attentive. My hubby had the fried catfish , which was good. His corn was super sweet, which he liked. My grill chicken was dry. Do NOT order it. I was disappointed in the roll and the cornbread. They were very dense. Flavor for the garlic mashed potatoes were also tasty. I would come back and try something else.

Yelp
Love this Place. You Have Try The Fried Fresh Catfish. Awesome and delicious and Hot . Thank You.

Yelp
I have gone several times over the past few years and never regret going. Nothing really special here, but that doesn't mean bad things. It's down home comfort food. If that's what you're in the mood for it's definitely worth a visit. The service is very good, you're treated more like family than patrons.

Yelp
Very good place. Just visiting in Arlington Tx and the food was served hot. Very nice server. If I lived in the area I would be back for sure.

Yelp
Cute little family owned restaurant. We came in for a late lunch around 2 pm. I ordered the tilapia, my mom ordered chicken mushroom, and my sister the fried shrimp. We came a little late for breakfast items but my 3 year old wanted a pancake and the kitchen accommodated it. Our waitress was Jenny, and she was very friendly. Everything I ate was absolutely delicious. I asked for my tilapia to be blackened and it was perfectly seasoned. Their signature white wine sauce paired very well with the dish. I licked the plate clean! (Not literally but I ate everything with no need for a to go box). The entrees come with a choice of soup or salad. I ordered the salad. Salad was small but the ingredients were quality. The tilapia comes with rice and 2 additional sides so I ordered the mixed vegetables and black eyed peas. Everything was yummy. I would definitely return and order this again.

Yelp
I'm kind of disappointed in myself that I've lived in or around Arlington for 40 years and have never gone or heard of this spot. Thanks to my buddy Shaun for suggesting we meet up there for lunch because I might have to venture here more often. Incredible service from wonderful humans. The Cobb salad with blackened chicken and their homemade blue cheese was amazing. The rolls....yall. Think Spring Creek bread but 5 lbs heavier and 3 times tastier. This spot needs more love because they've got it going on!

Yelp
I've eaten here probably a handful full of times and it's always been good.Today was no exception. My mom has never eaten here so I decided to take her here for lunch. We started off with the sampler.Which includes chicken strips, fried mushrooms, cheese sticks and jalapeño poppers. It was pretty solid overall.Next my mom got the chicken fried steak.Which comes with two sides and a salad along with a roll. She said everything was good except for the roll.It was a little hard.I ended up getting the patty melt with onion rings which are hand breaded. The patty melt and onion rings were pretty tasty. The service was pretty solid too.The menu has a little bit of everything on it and I'm sure you will be able to find something. If you have never been here I would highly recommend it.You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Southern comfort food at its finest! Conveniently located in north Arlington makes it accessible to much of the city without too much of a drive.

Yelp
Food has lots of flavor and comes out hot and great service too. I will be back for sure. I had chicken fried Steak and mash potatoes and green beans and a roll. With a side salad. With a tea. satisfying. They even gave me a tea to go.
google avatar

Yelp
I ate here many years ago and they have the best chicken fried steak I have ever eaten.

Yelp
Delicious home-cooked food. Southern Recipes Grill is a hidden gem on N.Collins St, and we'll go again soon.

Katelyn H.

Yelp
So so delicious!! My boyfriend and I love eating here or getting takeout! The prices are incredible for the serving sizes and quality of food. Everyone who works there is so kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area!!
google avatar

Yelp
There is not a choice to give it six stars. The food is coming, the drinks are stout. It's better than traffic and that's no doubt.

Yelp
Awesome staff, incredibly well priced. Everything i have tried has been great but try the patty melt and you will NOT be disappointed! DELISH

Yelp
I love this place! I think everything on the menu is delicious, salmon and country fried chicken are my top favs. The staff makes this place so amazingly homie, they feel like family. This is my all time favorite place to eat in Arlington.

Yelp
Top tier Food and service for lower level prices you just can't beat this place. I recommend the Blackened chicken pasta!!

Yelp
Went with our church friends and everyone really enjoyed their food. I had the pork chops they were large and very tasty.

Yelp
I love the outdoor seating! The staff is just fantastic, and the food is fabulous. I have never been there and left unhappy. Next nice day that comes around grab some great friends and grab some great food. If your not from the South go Southern you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Walked into being greeted and my order was ready on time, ordered through slice. Great quality food, chicken on a bed of rice. Coleslaw and mashed potatoes on the side .

Yelp
Well, this was a fast turnaround on how I feel about this restaurant! We went back recently, and it was TERRIBLE. I made some excuses for them on the first visit, but with those same issues outstanding on the second visit and a host of new issues, I have to just warn people away at this point. In addition to the slow service we experienced last visit, this time the food was also just really not good. Our appetizer was fried green beans, and they were clearly just some pre-made frozen item that was cheaply breaded with thick, tasteless breading and a side of watery ranch. Ewww. I ordered the chicken fried chicken meal with cole slaw as my side. First, they brought me a chicken fried steak after a VERY long wait. Then, when I was finally able to flag someone down to tell them about the issue, they took back the plate and brought out what was supposed to be a chicken fried chicken breast (by which time my husband was done with his CFS). See the photo for the "breast" they gave me. It was basically a chicken tender that had been pounded so flat it was literally like 1/8" thick of meat. It was one of the saddest things I have ever seen. The cole slaw was also a serious issue, as it was honest to goodness worse than what you would expect to find in a grade school cafeteria. It was borderline rancid, and just absolutely disgusting. All of this for something like $12. I'm not sure what is going on "back of house" at Southern Recipes, but we will not be back. No more excuses.

Yelp
Love this place! Same staff and food for years make this place a Local pro. Daily specials, local gathering place, Salmon and Steaks. What's not to love?
google avatar

Timothy H.

Yelp
The portions are right and so is the service. Nice atmosphere and they were really loving to my kid so 5 stars is a easy rating for me! The beer is cheap too! Love this place so far.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was awesome! Great size portions for the price. And customer service was wonderful! Shout out to Bree for all her kindness
google avatar

Yelp
Steak and shrimp combo sorry I ate the shrimp already. For 20.99 it's a decently priced meal. Fries were a little undercooked and greasy. Overall I'd give this meal a 3.5 out of 5
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
Good price on daily home cooked specials. Chicken fried chicken meal good. Roast beef dinner meh.
google avatar

Laura V.

Yelp
The Porsche 928 group (20+) meets here for breakfast the first Saturday of every month. We have been coming here for years and even during Covid. Southern recipes has always been very accommodating, the food is great and is a great price and they always give our group great service. Highly recommended for large groups.

Yelp
This place is near my house. I have been here a few times now. My Dad really likes this place! It reminds me a lot of Connecticut, where I am from because it has a diner vibe. We don't have many diner-type places in this area. They have great lunch specials and breakfast foods. When I came here recently with my Dad we got the Thursday lunch specials which included chicken noodle soup, your choice of two sides and a main course. My Dad had chicken-fried-chicken and I had fried shrimp with the sides of mixed veggies and rice. The rice was well seasoned! I also really enjoyed the chicken noodle soup. This place has a great home type feel. Prices are great, staff is friendly and food comes out pretty quickly! The only issue I would say is that it's slightly run down, like they could use a renovation. The outside patio area really needs to be re painted, it is chipped very badly. The windows seem old and kind of dirty, and the restroom could also use a makeover. Another thing is that you can only order breakfast until I think before 11 am. I think it would be good if they did breakfast all day.
google avatar

Karla J.

Yelp
Passed by this place a few times and decided to stop by. I am not a fan. I ordered the grilled red snapper with mashed potatoes and green beans. 1. You CANNOT grill fish once you've fried it or it has been battered! I took a few bites and was done. 2. I had no idea they made a 1970 flavor seasoning! The mashed potatoes tasted like 1970 and I was born in 83! 3. The green beans were boiled in water from 1970! 4. The roll was delicious and filling! 5. The server was nice! 6. They give you to go fountain drinks! If you dine here, please do not order the grilled snapper, unless you like breaded grilled fish!

Yelp
Food is always great and the staff are nice and grateful!!! From the cheese burgers to the blacken chicken with fettuccini!!! All good

Yelp
First off, this place is nestled so cozy in a corner that it's possible to miss if it weren't for the sign. I love how comfy this place looks on the outside. If you want good southern comfort food this is the place! The chicken fried steak is amazing and it pairs so well with the soup that they serve before it. They do have a bar area which you can choose to sit at if you'd like as well as an outside patio. The service is great and attentive. Highly recommend Southern Recipes if you want good homemade food.

Mauryne S.

Yelp
Wow and wow! Who knew? We are going to Southern Recipes Grill for the second time tonight and plan to go tomorrow. People, I am telling you the selection AND the help are so Breakfrasst welcoming, I could camp in their entryway. I had the most delicious BLT of my life (I've had a bunch--I am 80 years old) and my daughter had the hickory chicken sandwich. We were so impressed we planned to go tomorrow (Sunday) for breakfast. Guess what, we were talking about the deliciouness of our meal last night, we decided we wanted to go tonight as well. So we will take our leave now, drooling as we finish this review and go over for supper. The food is good, prices fair and help and owner very welcoming! This is a little cozy building on No. Collins Rd, near Veridian! (Breakfast is served only Sat. and Sunday, I think from 8am to 2PM.) Don't pass this little jewel, esp. if you loved the diners of yesteryear..
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely one of my favorite places to go. Perfect place for something intimate, corporate and work related, or a large family. The food is always great and the prices are great. The atmosphere of this establishment is top notch and customer service is always good.
google avatar

Cameron M.

Yelp
You want a cheap beer and half price app? Great! You are in luck! You want a decent dinner? Not so much. This place should be called Bar McBarface. To be fair the chicken part of my Southern Chicken entree was very good but the mashed potatoes were ice cube cold. The Green Beans were poorly prepared from frozen but that was not even the scariest part. It is still hard to fathom, but the Roll was the absolute lowlight. Never have I been so let down by a bread product. The roll was sincerely inedible. Tough as a dogs chew toy and not quite as tasty. You want butter with that? Hope not since you will be out of luck. Stick to the bar and you should be good to go. Please do not bother with the full menu.
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best mom and pop restaurants I've been at. The food was amazing, side note if you think you need another roll with your meal... you don't because they are huge. Tyler served is and had impeccable customer service. Aveen was the good runner and even the short interaction with her was so very pleasant . Fantastic place over all !
google avatar

Connie L.

Yelp
We picked up food here a few nights ago and we were very pleased. Placing the order online was a cinch, the food was fresh and it tasted really good. My husband says the pork chops are a must, and they really are very good. I got the chicken tenders and they're now my favorite. The sides are also really good, we've had just about all of them in the time we've been coming here.

Brittany W.

Yelp
The owner Sal is amazing. The food is so delicious and you get a lot for your money. Southern Recipes is my happy place.
google avatar

Kimberly B.

Yelp
Moved near the area and looked for a regular breakfast go to spot and came across this place. The place is a cute little house with a deck and sunroom. Service was good despite the fact they got one of our orders wrong by pouring cream gravy on top of the chicken fried steak instead of brown. Also, I prefer to use a straw and it took our waitress a couple times to visit before she asked if we needed a straw. I guess she noticed that I haven't touched my water. Usually places give the straw automatically with the drink. Food on the other hand was mediocre. My boyfriend liked the chicken fried steak. I had the Eggs Benedict. The egg was over cooked a little bit. Usually it's a little runny but my yolk was more on the thick pudding like substance. I think the hash brown side was a little small. It looked big but it was just thinned out and spread to cover half the plate. I guess we still have to search for that go to breakfast place.

Ty'Ryiell F.

Yelp
Tried this spot out for lunch today, wasn't impressed ... $15 for a meal that looks (and tastes) like a kids plastic play food set.
google avatar

Steffen M.

Yelp
One of the best breakfasts ever! Sausage, bacon, fried eggs, hash browns (asked for well done and got em that way), biscuits and gravy, buttermilk pancakes (w/ warm syrup), omelet. Hard to mess up breakfast but usually something is not done quite right. Not the case here. Waitress and hostess both extremely nice even though they were very short handed.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow I saw their ad in Ad Pages coupon magazine yesterday and since I haven't been here for a long time I thought I'd give them a try. I like the quaintness of the restaurant and I love dining somewhere that's not so loud that you can't even hear each other talk. That is a great feature of this restaurant along with THEIR YUMMY HOME MADE FOOD!! I had blackened salmon. Salmon always a good test of freshness and IT WAS EXTREMELY EXCELLENT AND FRESH!! In addition, the VEGES WERE ALSO EXTREMELY FRESH AND THEY WERE CRISPY (not mushy like a lot of their competitors) -HAVE A SAVORY TASTE! They really were great! I asked the waitress what they did to the VEGES and they are cooked in herbs like rosemary, etc. Since I ate EVERYTHING ON MY PLATE (which is unusual!) I didn't have any dessert- so I took a pic of the dessert items on the menu so you can see them- IM CERTAIN THEY MUST BE GREAT TOO. They also have CHICKEN FRIED STEAK AND A TON OF DELIGHTFUL LOOKING OTHER MENU ITEMS ! Even Rainbow Trout! ILL BE BACK SOON
google avatar

Tammi D.

Yelp
Great lunch specials!! I had chicken fried chicken and it was cooked perfectly with a tasty crisp batter but not overly battered or crisp!! The mashed potatoes and gravy were really good.
google avatar

Stacey H.

Yelp
The service was great and the portions were huge!!!! I had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, a roll, and baked apples which was amazing. The gravy was perfect it wasn't too peppery. My boyfriend had the Philly with potatoes and cornbread. The sweet tea was amazing! I will definitely be back
google avatar

Deb S.

Yelp
I eat here often and tend to introduce this place to others. The food is good. They have great daily specials and awesome Snapper and Fried catfish. The Fried apples are SUBLIME and I always have sliced tomatoes as a side. I am not a big bread eater; however, the rolls and cornbread are good as well. The waitstaff are always friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. They serve a good breakfast on Sat and Sunday too. They have a bar area w/tv's for sports. I have not eaten dessert here /as I am a baker and a bit of a dessert snob.. lol They have a great patio which; in my opinion, is under utilized. I could see live music out there when the weather is decent. Just my two-cents. The only downside is the bar does not carry my drink of choice, which is MYERS DARK RUM (just in case someone there is actually reading this) So; if you haven't been... GO!

Yelp
We want to try something new this evening and unfortunately we're somewhat disappointed. The portions were plentiful and the food was well cooked. But our meals were lacking in flavor that would make us want to order from Southern Recipes Grill again. We had the Monterey Chicken, Blackened Chicken, Chicken Strips & another Chicken dish. One order of FF was full the 2nd bac very few FF. The rolls were so so and butter was not included. Green beans were canned, nothing special. Cinnamon Apples were good. We got 3 desserts at $6.99 each. For this price I expected serving sizes that could be shared. The Key Lime pie was 1.5 inch slice & appeared to be from restaurant supply. The Moltin Lava pie was 2 brownies w/a dab of vanilla ice cream. The Apple pie was pieces & parts. It was by no means a slice, looks like they scraped out the pie tin into the to go container. I wonder if the plating would have nicer if we were eating in instead of using Uber delivery.

Yelp
I've lived in north Arlington since the early 90s but had never been here until recently. Kinda tucked out of the way in between some apartment complexes so you just don't notice it. Anyway, a friend of mine said it was pretty good so we decided to check it out. The atmosphere reminds me of a Cracker Barrel without the tourist trap general store. Menu was surprisingly fish heavy but figured for a southern cooking restaurant it would be best to try the more typical southern food items on the menu. I got the chicken fried chicken, my SO got the chicken fried steak. The CFS is pretty big, the chicken version is also good sized but thinner. The CFS could use more seasoning (same with the green beans) but the chicken fried chicken was nicely seasoned. Service was a bit slow to start, not sure if the hostess informed the server she had a table. After that though, the service was really good.

Yelp
My first time here but definitely not my last!I had the blackened chicken and it was cooked perfect. My friend had the chicken fried chicken and it was cooked perfectly as well.our waitress was very attentive and kept our drinks filled.A very good experience. If you like home cooking and large portions I highly recommend this restaurant! Went back last night and the food is still as good. Our waitress was awesome and very attentive.Love this place!

Yelp
Finally stopped in here on Saturday for breakfast. Not busy and I just sat at the bar. Ordered the 3 egg breakfast, scrambled with bacon and hash browns. Also got a side order of biscuits and gravy. Service was quick and staff friendly. Everything was good with one exception, no sausage in the gravy, and it was thin and bland. For me, if you call yourself a "Southern" restaurant you should be serving sausage gravy with your biscuits. Other than that, it was a good experience. On a side note to the couple sitting at the bar with me. You do not put sugar on grits, ever. Butter, salt and pepper.

Yelp
Very down home atmosphere. Excellent service. Fantastic food. Super price. I recommend it. We want to come back on Saturday & Sunday to try breakfast. I would love to know more about the history of the original home site.
