Southpaw Coffee - Review - Islington - London - The Infatuation

"Every neighbourhood needs a tiny little cafe with strategically placed chocolate and peanut butter blondies and excellently made coffee. Southpaw is that place for Caledonian Road. And just like any coffee shop that we’d add to our Pinterest board, Southpaw sells coffee beans in aesthetically pleasing mint green bags and has a drinks menu messily scrawled onto a hanging roll of brown paper. There are a handful of seats, and a strict no-laptop policy, so this is the kind of place that’s meant for a coffee catch-up. If you're hungry you should know that they take grilled cheese toasties very seriously here—and if you come on a weekend they often do specials like adding beef ragu to those seriously cheesy toasties." - Rianne Shlebak

Southpaw Coffee isn’t just a café—it’s a mood. Tucked into the curve of Caledonian Road, this pint-sized spot punches far above its weight, serving up some of the best coffee in North London with a side of curated cool and unapologetic charm. Atmosphere Minimalist but warm. Think mint-green coffee bags, a roll of brown paper scrawled with the drinks menu, and a strict no-laptop policy that keeps the vibe social and intentional. There are only a handful of seats, so it’s more about the moment than the marathon. The energy is buzzy, creative, and quietly confident. Coffee & Bites Southpaw takes its coffee seriously—and it shows: Flat white – often described as one of the best in London Gluten-free cookies & pastries – rich, fresh, and thoughtfully sourced Grilled cheese toasties – not just comfort food, but a ritual (weekend specials like beef ragu toasties are local legends) Wine by the glass or bottle – a surprise twist that adds depth to the offering Everything feels curated, not crowded. The menu is compact, but every item earns its place.

Elite coffee, and excellent ham and cheese croissants, although they pride themselves on their cheese toasties which I can also confirm are excellent. Super cute coffee shop that doesn't allow laptops- so prepare to disconnect and people watch the steady flow of customers, or bring a book and enjoy the cuteness of the spot. You can also buy some unique other items like wine, and a small number of curated knick-knacks. I will be back!

Our local coffee shop and we are so lucky!!! We go at least once a weekend and always get the best ham and cheese croissants and coffees. But honestly everything we’ve tried is delicious! Also the friendliest people.

I got the sandwich with cheese, ham and tomato, and it was really good and tasty! Also I got earl grey with soya, but I didn't like it so much. It'll be nice without soya. I would try other pastry if I come here again! There is no seat inside but the place was cute :)

Lovely little coffee shop with great beans and friendly staff! Used to go here a lot during lockdown as it was a great way to get out of the house. Their coffee beans are really tasty for milky coffees as well as espressos. The staff are always very friendly even when the place is packed and they’re spinning around. If you go early in the morning make sure to grab one if their pastries (their almond croissant are my favourite), and during lunch they do sandwiches and soups. Highly recommend both! If you’re in luck, you’ll be there on the day when they make saltbeef bagels, and that’s a MUST! Overall a very nice coffee shop with great people running it. You’ll definitely run into a lot of dogs as people like to go on a walk this way and if you a doggo yourself, make sure to bring them along, the staff love them and they even have snack/water ready for them😊

Yelp
Grabbed a latte and cinnamon bun from Southpaw this morning! Walked over to nearby Thornhill Square Gardens to enjoy. Great service, a great selection of market goods, and a nice cafe to pop in for a coffee and pastry. Highly recommend!

Yelp
5 stars for the place, 3 stars for the coffee. The place is super cute. I wish the coffee was better but its a bit sour and not as rich in coffee flavour as I like. The hot chocolate is excellent. They grind up fair trade 85% Madagascar dark chocolate into hot milk. So good and made to order. When I go, I usually go for the hot chocolate instead of the coffee.
