"Does Sacramento need another sushi restaurant? This part of town, which has been revitalized every decade to no avail, certainly needed something different. And that difference is...sushi. Lou Valente used to be the face and name of Lou’s Sushi in Midtown, but he has moved on and taken his vegan spider roll with panko-crusted oyster mushrooms to old Del Paso Blvd. Get the grilled oysters with red curry sauce or the off-menu chirashi — some of the freshest, most delicate fish served over a bed of fragrant rice." - Illyanna Maisonet

Husband and I sat at the bar and were treated to fresh, creative, and delicious sushi. Chef Shaq was very engaging and took care of everyone, making sure we were having a great time and enjoying our food. We had Seafood Nachos, Uptown and Electric Eel Rolls, and Sashimi. Everything was delightful. We finished it off with the refreshing Tempura Ice Cream. I have a new favorite sushi place.

Google
1st timer. Omg I had to wait till 4:30 to come in but it was worth the wait. The "light the beam" roll was my favorite. It's on the special menu. So good! The seaweed was so flavorful. The sake was delicious. The service was great. Definitely coming back. This will be my go to spot for now on.

Google
The food was very tasteless, dry, I have never seen cabbage put in sushi. the choice was meager, small and also expensive. the toilet is terrible, old, dirty and separate from the restaurant. We ordered another roll after the full order, but the refill took so long that we managed to wait for the first serve, eat, and they had not yet started making the refill, so we had to cancel. I don’t recommend it, I’m shocked that there’s a 4.8 rating here. 👎🏼 not true rate!

Google
Food was immaculately presented, delicious and surprisingly well priced for what was offered. The ambience was warm and a little chic. I'm super impressed and will be back again. Try the BTS! I have had a version of this dish at several Japanese style restaurants in town but this was BY FAR the best. A great addition to Uptown. I cannot wait for my next visit.

Google
Have you ever heard that sometimes the best restaurants are in the sketchiest parts of town? Well so far this is the best sushi spot in Sacramento, but it’s located in the wonderful Del Paso heights neighborhood. It is pricy and can get busy on the weekends, but the sushi is worth it for a nice date night. Parking can also sometimes be a problem as spaces are limited or sometimes occupied by homeless people. They have good specials here from time to time like their pork belly ramen bowl (pictured). I love salmon and they do a good crunchy salmon roll (pictured) and will add salmon if you ask. Our sushi chef at the bar (Shaq) doesn’t just create sushi-he creates art. Overall excellent sushi spot!

Google
First time here and really enjoyed it! The food and service were great! I enjoy sushi but I also loved that they had shrimp and RIBS!!!

Google
Sushi was unique and delicious. Slightly higher prices when compared to some of the mom and pop sushi places around Sacramento, but the quality and speciality rolls were worth it :) Great service and a friendly environment too. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
Loved it! I've been waiting for this new place to open to support Lou after the last place changed hands. Everything we had was delicious especially the pork belly fried rice and wasabi san. After ordering 4 oysters, we ordered 4 more! We also enjoyed a carafe of Tears of Dawn chilled sake. Keep up the great work, I'll be back!

Yelp
We came here for a birthday celebration. The food was all great. It took awhile for the ramen to come out but the broth was very tasty. The service was good, she was on top of it and friendly. I like the ambiance- look and feel of this place it's inviting and the sushi staff thank you and welcome you it's very nice! I'll be back!

Yelp
Our favorite go to place for sushi in the area. Sit at the counter and enjoy watching the prep. Their sushi chefs are the best and helpful when you need educated about the many choices. We love the personal touch when you can watch your food be prepared while conversing with the person who is making it. The wait staff is also knowledgeable and attentive. I love the Sashimi. Excellent and fresh! As far as rolls go, they have all been remarkable. We generally have at least One or both of the The City Roll or The Ziggy Roll. We can't go without the crispy Brussels sprouts either. For faint of heart sushi folks or newbies, I would recommend getting your toes wet by trying the Ziggy roll. Creamy deliciousness with an interior crunch. The perfect bite. You will be given plenty of wasabi and the freshest of ginger to enjoy with your meal. Hands down, their ginger is far superior to most sushi restaurants. If you love Saki, you will have a wonderful selection to choose from. If you don't, there's plenty of other options. My only critique would be that we would love them to be open more hours like for lunch and on Sundays!

Jenica E.

Yelp
Nice modern vibe. Very spacious and had nice seating. Bar area looked fun to sit at but we ended up getting a table instead. They were busy for a Friday night which slowed down service a little, but that's understandable. We ordered the Brussels sprouts and the Ziggy Roll . The Brussels sprouts were my fave because the sauce was delicious and had the Brussels had the best crunch to it

Noah B.

Yelp
First time visiting Southpaw Sushi. Came for a birthday on the recommendation of a friend. Lots of great vegetarian options available, and we tried almost all of them. Highly recommend the roll that comes with eggplant and Brussels sprouts on top. Haven't had a roll like that before but loved it. The tempura salmon roll was the hands-down winner. The tempura cheesecakes (New York style and green tea) were quite good. Everything was presented beautifully. Looking forward to a return visit!

Yelp
Love Southpaw so much, I have eaten here a lot over the past few years. You can't go wrong with the hamachi kama, wakame salad and the secret shrimp app. My favorite rolls are the wasabi san, ziggy and yo adrian. They have all day happy hour on Tuesdays. Sometimes pickup orders take longer than the online ETA, I suggest giving them an extra 10-15 mins.

Yelp
This hidden gem was such an amazing treat of an experience. The quality of the chefs and the freshness of the fish here are superb. The balance of flavors and textures on each roll was so well thought out. And the nigiri, so fresh and amazing selection. We enjoyed everything we ordered and what's more were blown away by some of the flavor profiles in those rolls. The Uptown has this beautifully smoky salmon in the middle that works so well with the creamy sauces, fatty fish, bonito flakes and crunchy jalapeno. And the Woodlake! Omg I never thought brussel sprouts on a sushi roll would be so good, lightly lemony from the sweet garlic ginger ponzu. Just wow. You will leave here somewhat ruined for any other sushi spots, it's that amazing. And you can't beat the price either. I've paid double in midtown Sac, the bay area, and LA for sushi only half as good. So excited to have this new spot to enjoy. Southpaw sushi was just such amazing quality. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

Xia Wen G.

Yelp
Back again after almost year! Treated my friend for her birthday and everything we got was delicious! The nigiri here are so delicious , the fish is thick and fresh! I loved the toro nigiri we got from the specials, it was truly melt in your mouth! We got some Karage and it was tasty! Perfectly fried. We got the negihama cause it's must! They didn't give the extra hamachi on top thou which was a bummer. I got a creamy spicy scallop hand roll from the secret menu and it was soooo good, a must try!

Yelp
Came here last night with my wife and 2 daughters after a long day at a volleyball tourney. We chose this place because of the good reviews. We completely regretted the decision. Not 100% sure know who our servers name was, but I think it was Stephanie. From being greeted rudely, when entering the restaurant, to blank stares and short condescending answers to valid questions. Do you have a kids' menu? Do you serve lion king rolls? Can I have a side of rice. We ended up ordering the ribs, calamari, seafood nachos, and california rolls.... Maybe she thinks we weren't worth her time? I asked for the manager... mind you, this is only the 2nd time in my whole life that the service was that bad that I felt compelled to do so. I commend the owner for his attempt to make amends, but my wife was over it, and we just left Note to owners: please check your servers. Your food might be great, but horrible service will always give a bad taste in your mouth.

Zahin R.

Yelp
This hidden restaurant can be a bit difficult to find but it's definitely in my top 5 sushi spots in Sacramento! The restaurant itself has a modern vibe with ample seating! The service was friendly and prompt which was nice. The menu was big but not overwhelming and they had very enticing seasonal specials! We order 3 rolls, 2 types of nigiri, 1 negihama, and a sea urchin udon dish! Everything was delicious. The fish was super fresh, the portions of fish compared to rice was great, and the overall flavors of everything mixed very well together. My favorite items were the Uptown roll and the negihama! The price was very reasonable for the quality of food you get which is always a pleasant bonus! I will definitely be a regular at this spot!

Yelp
Southpaw Sushi offers good sushi in the Old North Sacramento area, near the intersection of Del Paso Blvd. and Arden Way. They offer happy hour from 5-6pm daily and all day Tuesday. I recently came to Southpaw Sushi on a Saturday during happy hour, was seated right away, and felt a bit rushed to order. We ordered the Crispy Brussels Sprouts ($6 during HH), Karate Chop roll ($9 HH), Wasabi San roll ($19), and a sashimi plate with half hamachi and half salmon ($19). The sashimi plate was my favorite because the hamachi and sake (salmon) were fresh. Some of the cuts were very awkward shaped and small, but still tasted good. It would be better if all the pieces were equally large. The crispy brussels sprouts were really good in terms of crispiness, but it was very salty. It could definitely improve with less salt. It also came with a good dipping sauce. I would order these two dishes again. The rolls I chose were good to moderate. The Wasabi San roll has tuna and tempura green onion on the inside with hamachi and picked wasabi on the outside. This roll was the better roll of the two I ordered because of the raw fish, however, the tempura green onion was just okay and the picked wasabi flavor was barely there. I've never seen green onion fried into tempura in a roll and would have much preferred shrimp tempura or yam tempura in the roll. Other than the hamachi and tuna, this roll didn't have a ton of flavor. The Karate Chop roll was my least favorite item I ordered, mainly because there was no raw fish. The Karate Chop had shrimp tempura and avocado with sesame seeds. It wasn't bad, just not as exciting cuz no fish. The flavor was okay...a little plain. Overall, the food at Southpaw Sushi was good and the fish was fresh. Service was a bit slow and not very attentive, but the restaurant was full. There was another table next to us that was seated after us, but a server took their order first and they got their food before us. Our waitress was not very knowledgeable about the menu as well because every time I asked a question about the menu, she would run back and ask, which happened at least three times. Nevertheless, all of the staff were very polite and we were greeted us when we came and left.

Yelp
The seafood nachos were so good and anyone who goes here should definitely order them!

Yelp
Worst sushi I have ever tried in my life. Brussel sprouts with actually sushi rolls , not only does it make it stink so bad you want to throw up but also the actual sushi is so dry !!! Disgusting.. my boyfriend ate this just because we are paying so much for it & it's sad .. also horrible seats, table are uncomfortable and super small ... weird spot

Yelp
Okay, I really don't want to share this hidden gem in North Sacramento, but I will since this place is one of my favorites in Sacramento. We came here around 5:15Pm on a weekday, and there was no wait to be seated. This is our 3rd visit btw. We ordered a few items for dinner. 1) BTS $17: albacore, ponzu, chili oil, jalapeño slices, with onion, and massago on top. Yum! 2) 2 orders of Karate Chop for my 5 yr old boy ($10), but it was happy hour price at $7: Tempora Shrimp, avocado, with sesame seeds. They added aioli on top. 3) Uptown Roll ($17.50): one of my fav rolls here. Spicy tuna, grilled asparagus, topped with salmon, massago, jalapeño slices, and some green onions on top. BOMB!! 4) Scallop Sashimi ($18): 6 pieces 5) Shrimp Tempura ($7) Happy hour price. 6) Southpaw Salad ($9.50): Super light **Also, I highly recommend their Baked Scallop Handroll for scallop lovers!!** Service was great & food was excellent... what else can I say about this place? Just try it and you will fall in love~

Yelp
I recently moved to Sac from SF and have been dying to find a decent sushi place. I stumbled on this through Yelp and had to give it a try after trying another place that was a flop. My partner and I came on a weeknight around 8pm. They're open till 9pm which I thought was awesome - most places I found close at 8. Also, to our surprise on Tuesday's it's happy hour all night! We opted for a few of the happy hour items (garlic edamame and shrimp tempura). The edamame was delicious, shrimp tempura was good but the shrimp pieces were very small. We also ordered uptown and the Santa Cruz rolls. The uptown roll was bomb! Probably my favorite thing we ordered. The Santa Cruz was also good but I have to say uptown was the star of the table. I loved the size of our rolls as well as how many they come with! Sometimes you're served tiny rolls at places but this place definitely did not disappoint. We also ordered a bottle of sake (forgot the name) and it was also good. The server had recommended it and we loved it! Also, the bottles are decently priced here too which is an added bonus! Service was fantastic! Server checked on us constantly and was very friendly! I would totally return and recommend this place to others!

Amy R.

Yelp
Service here is fantastic!! The music and ambiance also fits the theme very well. We came here before New Years as a bit of celebration. The sushi here is decadent to say the least. We got the chu toro and it was the most delicious nigiri I've ever had. The uni will always be my favorite. Next time we will exclusively order off of the specials menu. We always get the hot sake and it's the best sake in town. Refreshing and delicious. Sushi is the best aphrodisiac as well, this is always our favorite date night place to go. Don't miss out, Tuesdays is all day happy hour and worth it.

Matthew R.

Yelp
Solid 4 stars. It's not the best sushi I've ever had but it was good. The location is nice away from the grid in the Del Paso Heights neighborhood and it's located in an industrial but chic space. I came in with two friends on a Saturday evening and it was a full house (as one would expect). The wait was minimal and the service was as it should be. You can expect all the traditional offerings from a neighborhood sushi restaurant. They also had some unique specials to compliment the sushi menu. We tried the "spicy fried chicken," for example, which was unique and worth a try. Nothing stood out as being spectacular but I would definitely come back and can recommend giving this place a try if you're looking for a newish Sushi place to break the monotony of the pre existing sushi spots around town.

Betsy R.

Yelp
My husband and I finally made it to Southpaw. I knew this place had some similarities to the old Lou's which was then Midtown Sushi and has since closed, so I was excited to try some of their vegan options. The space is interestingly located in what seems like an old school small mall. The service is super fast. Water and menus as soon as we sat down. We of course ordered the secret tofu which was as good as I remember from Midtown/Lou's. That sauce is bomb and the texture perfect - crispy outside, soft inside. So damn good. But i was disappointed with the 2 veggie rolls i got - they just weren't that great. I was hoping they had similar offerings as Lou's/Midtown but both rolls seemed like the same thing - different ingredients but texturally the same consistency and no sauces on either. My husband ordered real sushi which he liked but we were both sadly underwhelmed.

Andrea V.

Yelp
This place is awesome. It is my only sushi spot nowadays. I love the quality of the fish, the fact that they have a rotating menu of specials which keeps making us come back, and the fact that the staff and I mean every single one of them are absolutely lovely. It is located in this kind of covered courtyard building so the entrance is inside the courtyard and not street facing.

Michelle B.

Yelp
This place is tucked in the del paso district so you have to keep your eyes out for it or you'll pass it. It has really good sushi the first time I went when having a late lunch with a good friend. The first time we went was during the summer of the pandemic so only outside seating was allowed but it didn't bother us the food was delicious and so I came back with my husband to grab food to go. From both times we went we ordered: the secret tofu, BBQ Albacore, Uptown, Woodlake, Delpaso and shishito peppers. Little hidden gem to show others that sac is gonna be big in the food scene

Jane S.

Yelp
I had middle of the road expectations before coming here: I live and die Mikuni sushi. But we wanted to try Southpaw out and I was less than impressed. The best thing we had was probably the tempura; but the L-train, 02807 and Santa Cruz were meh at best. Nothing was very flavorful. The temperatures of the ingredients seemed to be fighting with each other. In the L-train the fish was surprisingly too cold, and that made the asparagus cold, which I didn't enjoy. And everything seemed to have asparagus in it, too many dishes for a sushi place in my opinion. I'll give them some benefit and mention that they had Sapporo on draft and the chairs were not horribly uncomfortable like some places. The food came very quickly and service was very good overall. The food is really what brings this place down unfortunately. Small detail, but it also kinda bugged me that when I got a hot tea it was one small cup. Most sushi places give you a little teapot. Seriously, your neighborhood small sushi joint is better than this.

Rachel K.

Yelp
Southpaw Sushi has continued to be my favorite spot to order sushi from in the city! I love trying new places and have a couple others that I love but if you ask for my favorite it's going to be Southpaw. I've actually only had takeout so far, but they make it so easy to order with their online system and pick up. During the height of COVID I always felt safe ordering from here and it was super convenient to drive up and have the bag handed to us while we stayed in the car. As someone who loves to take food photos, I also appreciate the care they take in packing their orders. When I get home it always looks amazing and it's easy to replate for photos before digging in. Other than looking incredible, every single item tastes amazing. I'm a sucker for unagi and it's nice to have a couple great options to order. When I've branched out and ordered new items I've been so happy and this has lead me to discover new favorites like their Negihama (chopped yellowtail and green onion) which has made it onto my regular order. I also LOVE that they have fresh pickled wasabi which is so much better than the paste. It come on rolls like the Wasabi San and you can order a side as well. If you've never tried it your mind will be blown. While you can't go wrong with any items on the menu, my favorites are the BTS, Electric Eel, City, Del Paso, Negihama and Santa Cruz. I try to add something new to my order each time though and I'm sure my favorites will continue to change as I try the whole menu. As I was typing this review a craving for sushi hit me hard, so I'll probably be ordering from them again soon and I would definitely recommend trying them out if you haven't!

Kassandra I.

Yelp
First time here and definitely will be making this a regular spot! I had one of the weeks special rolls Light the Beam, delicious. Ambiance and parking are great. Our server, Stephanie, was so sweet and cheerful. Great place to dine for a weekend out or whenever

Alyx P.

Yelp
Overal giving the place 8/10 This is my review is based on 5th time coming here and 2nd time doing Togo Pros: only sushi in the del Paso area, indoor and outdoor seating, small menu but great flavors, very fresh tasting Cons: pricey, sitting outside does not get as much attention as inside but I take my dog with me, if you're not experimental with flavor some of these may be odd to you and you must ask for all utensils/sauces with Togo orders because it is not assumed Pictures includes are of (my favorite) Negihama , 02807 and the specialty mushrooms (my least favorite of this meal)

Phillip K.

Yelp
I went back on a slower night (Tuesday) to see if anything changes. It only got better. The food was just as tasty and fresh, the service just as personal, and the atmosphere just as light. I explored the menu more and was pleasantly surprised with all of my picks and the chef's recommendations. Had kind of an "albacore" kind of night. I highly recommend the BBQ Albacore!

Jenny T.

Yelp
Very nice ambience and the restaurant is open kitchen! I like the environment and the chill aspect of this place. Now on to the food and service, look at their daily specials and try them out! I highly recommend trying their young octopus when it's available along with the sashimi. However I was not a fan of their tuna, I'd passed on that but the other cuts of fish were delicious and fresh. The rolls are good as well, but I would prefer the nigiri/sashimi over rolls. Customer service was great as well, we were greeted and checked on often when dining in.

Lucci M.

Yelp
Best sushi in town. We are so sad that you are closing. We followed Lou's from the midtown location and celebrate every birthday with our kids here for years! The brussels sprouts, secret tofu, and all the sushi rolls are incredible. Please open in midtown or on Broadway.

Helen H.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try the sushi here for awhile now, but the location is out of the way for me. There was plenty of street parking as I came in early. The service was great and I was given some recommendations. We started with the BTS (albacore, ponzu, chili oil and jalapeños). As for rolls we had the WASABI SAN and UPTOWN. Be careful with the pickled wasabi (Wasabi San), as it burned my nose- in a good way. The uptown is what I enjoyed the most. I don't see asparagus as something that's in many rolls at other places, but they have quite a few rolls here with it. It wasn't my favorite part of the roll though, the generous slices of salmon on top was. Some rolls are quite unique, like the one with brussels sprouts. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but it's one of their most popular rolls. I would say my visit was well worth it overall.

Jon H.

Yelp
Great service and friendly atmosphere. The menu is somewhat non-traditional, but excellent. Good choice of sake also offered. In addition, they have some beers from Japan that are other than the usual. All the ingredients are first rate and put together extremely well. I like the location, it's in a neighborhood that is going through a rebirth and has a funky, but cool feel to it. Definitely check them out if you were in North Sacramento.

Sara A.

Yelp
Hands down the best sushi in Sacramento for those who truly like eating fresh fish. I have been coming to Southpaw since 2020 and it has become the restaurant I now compare other sushi establishments to. The service is impeccable. Every time we walk in we're greeted with friendly faces and the wait time is never too long. You can never go wrong sitting at the bar with one of their sushi chefs and you can always trust their recommendations on fish and saki. Southpaw will always and forever be my go to spot.

Michelle F.

Yelp
Meh. Great service, very attentive and knowledgeable accommodating staff. BUT as soon as we entered it smelled of fish (other Sushi establishments I've visited do not smell of fish the way this one did), the sushi menu is very limited, a lot of the rolls are similar just with slight changes to either the inside or outside of the roll. Wasn't

John L.

Yelp
What an excellent experience! Definitely sit at the bar! Igor was amazing and don't hesitate to ask him to make you some things off the menu. He is so great. We had all nigiri and didn't disappoint! Definitely looking to come back!! The ambiance is pretty sweet. The decor is bright and minimalist. Shoutout Stephanie and Igor for a great service!

M C.

Yelp
This place is a special gem. Some would say it's hidden but it's just conveniently not in Midtown. The building is cool, inside is small yet open-tall and modern. The long sushi bar is a vibe staffed with sushi creators preparing excellence. Front of house is charming, accommodating and always a pleasure. I believe Southpaw is pretty up there with Kru in quality but without the Fuss and more chill environment. Favorite rolls: Wasabi San Uptown

Reina G.

Yelp
So good we went three weeks ago and the venue was cute and staff was friendly. We got the bbq albacore light the beam roll and the uptown roll. Amazing!! We had a to go order today and got the bbq albacore and the light the beam roll plus the short ribs. Everything was perfection

Morgan L.

Yelp
The miso soup was actually really flavorful and would recommend to anyone eating here. I ordered the vegan sushi roll and the description sounded better than it tasted. It was mostly just a bowl of veggies. My fiancé ordered the uptown roll and said it was fire.

Skyler T.

Yelp
We happened to be in the area and found this sushi place. They just opened as we walked in so no wait! Have a happy hour from 5-6. First, the staff was awesome. All very friendly and attentive! Any time we had a trash or an empty plate immediately picked it up. Love that kind of restaurant! First we ordered the gyoza and the Wakame salad. Loved the Wakame salad. Perfect amount of sauce. seaweed nice and fresh. I have to admit the gyoza was just okay. I did not like the sauce it came with and not too much flavor over all. Would order another app next time. Most important part....we really enjoyed our rolls! We got the electric eel and the uptown funk. Both are spicy rolls. I have a high tolerance for spicy and thought you could taste it. My fiancé thought they were pretty spicy! Both of us were happy. Would order these again.

Steph G.

Yelp
OB-SESSSSSSSSSS-ED! I am so mad at myself for taking so long to get over here. To be completely transparent, I didn't even know it was there until a friend recommended we go. And I was slightly reluctant. Now, I can't stop going back. And I'm a happier woman for it. The 'Special Shrimp' is the most delicious thing on Del Paso Boulevard! That sauce is straight CRACK! If I don't order this to start, something is seriously wrong with me. Then I follow it up with the Woodlake roll, which allows me the best of BOTH worlds -- veggies and sushi. The roasted Brussel sprouts are perfectly roasted, and crispy. Then hidden underneath are delicious seared ahi and a simple veggie roll. It is literally a dream come true for me. Now, I've been four times in less than two months. Late to the game, but I'm making up for it. I've tried a handful of the menu items, but I now have my go-to meal. The specials are fun to try, but next, I'd add the ribs to my order if I was sharing or extremely hungry. The 'Special Tofu' is even good, I think that CRACK sauce really has me swooning! The staff is amazing. Period. Nothing more to say about that. I love the intimate feel and how it's not downtown, and kinda out of the way so more people aren't there every time. The waits haven't been bad and there is usually parking nearby if it isn't right in front. The restroom is shared, which is probably my least favorite thing about an experience here. But I don't come for the bathroom, so I don't even truly care. It's protected by a code, so it's not too bad... I've ordered the Pinot Noir and it was tasty. No sake for me, but friends have enjoyed it, so I'm confident I can say their sake offerings are good and plenty. I can't stop this duo order, and I don't want to!

Bryan H.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times and in short....its well above solid. Food is tasty and innovative. The chefs are full of personality and conversation. Many items on the menu have "seasonal veggies" so you do take a roll of the dice on some. But when I got a vegetable I'm not too keen on, it was still a tasty addition to the flavor profile. I'll definitely be back more!

Evan S.

Yelp
It doesn't get better. Honestly. Laid back setting with excellent selection of unique and classic rolls and some of the freshest top shelf nigiri you can get. Staff is extremely friendly. Next time I'll probably try some of the specials. I have a feeling they won't disappoint.

Sarajane L.

Yelp
So yummy! Great vibe and amazing sushi! Service was a little slow and my bbq tuna was over-cooked. I like it raw in the middle and only one piece was cooked to my liking. Other than those few little things, it was awesome. Fish is SO fresh and they are very generous with it. No skimping here. The special shrimp is definitely worth the hype. The sauce on it that everyone talks about is BOMB!!! Our favorite dish was the BTS. Was so delicious!! We were really happy with this place and will be returning for sure!

Yelp
Here is a secret for you... Secret shrimp. Yes, that's all you really need to know, and that's something that should be included in your order. Southpaw sushi has been open for year and a half, and somehow I've missed out on this hidden gem. It definitely is off the beaten path, but absolutely worth exploring. For those concerned about social distancing, let me put your mind at ease... They have very limited seating in their outdoor atrium, and the set up is that you may enter from the front or the side and seat yourself. Once you are seated, there is a QR code on the table, along with a table number. Scan the code with your camera and it will take you immediately to the menu. ***DINERS TIP*** order your food from that menu, you pay and tip, submit the order, and they bring the food to your table. When you are entering an address on the app, you use their address 1616 Del Paso Boulevard. Don't forget your table number ** happy hour is not currently available. As a first time customer, and definitely not my last time, I had read through the various reviews, and my sister from another mister had made some suggestions to me when she found out that I was going there for dinner. You really will want to order everything. This is not your typical sushi place where the sushi comes covered in various sauces etc. Southpaw Is very light handed when it comes to adding sauce to all of their dishes. You are welcome to request more sauces and Stephanie the hostess with the mostess, is happy to bring you whatever you may need. Here's my breakdown: We ordered the ribs, and they are fall off the bone tender. Decent taste, but definitely one of those items that needs some sauce. They were just a little too dry for my liking The secret shrimp. The order comes with five large perfectly made and flavored shrimp. I'm all about sharing, except this is not a dish to be shared. Seriously, get your own! Yes my friends, it is that tasty. The fried rice is flavorful and has so many yummy ingredients. It's perfectly seasoned, but not a necessary side dish if you are only having sushi. Explore the menu because there are so many options other than sushi. The woodlake roll-named after the area that the restaurant is in, it is one of the most unique rolls I've seen. It's filled with tempura yam and avocado roll with seared tuna, brussels sprouts and sweet garlic and ginger ponzu. This is your opportunity to be extra and try this roll out. The Godfather-crab and tempura shishito roll, topped with shiso leaf, tuna, green onions and a tangy, crunchy garlic sauce. Need I say more? Just delicious. I definitely would ask for a little extra sauce for this role just to make the flavors pop even more. A big shout out to Stephanie. You truly are an amazing and knowledgeable asset to the restaurant. We loved your patience, knowledge, kindness and fun personality. Thank you for helping us navigate through the menu, and making sure that our every whim was met with a smile. Lou, i'm sorry that we missed you last night, you really have a winner here! And I absolutely will be back! If you are looking for to go orders, southpaw has got your back. If you're looking for a dining experience, southpaw has got your back. If you're looking for a quiet date spot, a place to hang with a couple of friends, or even if you want to have an evening to enjoy your own company, definitely check out southpaw. The menu has so many must tries on it! Including vegan options. Parking might be a little bit of a challenge, but it's worth the effort. This definitely is a hidden gem that needs to be explored over, and over again.

Yelp
Great food, the service was excellent especially sitting at the sushi bar. The octopus, ribs, hamachi, uptown roll, godfather roll, and woodlake roll were all phenomenal

Yelp
Do you know what southpaw means? No, I don't. Well now I know it's a boxing reference. I'm sure there's an interesting, personal story there that shall come to light in due time but for now, let's talk sushi! Noticed this place when I was next door at Shift (yummy coffee and best grilled sandwiches in CA). This area reminds me of the Camp in OC, a downsized version. Anywho, Southpaw is spacious and comfy. Got to enjoy a few trips before covid lockdown but haven't been back since. I believe they are still offering takeout. Tasty, creative rolls.

Yelp
The first time I came it was so good. But the second time. They put fake cream in everything it consumed all of our sushi rolls. And it was super mix to was over powered the taste. But the service was good and the kids liked the soup.

Yelp
This is the place to go if you love rolls. They didnt have a sashimi option on the menu, which is what i usually like when going to sushi restaurants.

Yelp
Southpaw was incredible! From service, to the quality of fish in the sashimi, to the delicious ribs. Definitely a gem in an up-and-coming area of town. Visiting Southpaw definitely made me want to explore the rest of the shopping center. Atmosphere was lively and friendly, and I will definitely be going back for more! 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Ummmmm - Sushi in Del Paso Heights????? After seeing so many rave reviews, we had to go see for ourselves. Yup - there in the heart of Del Paso Heights sits one of the top sushi restaurants in the city! Located in the former (and excellent) Mama Kims, the place was bustling in a Friday night. The server was friendly and as energetic as the vibe in the room. The menu had several creative rolls which all had healthy portions of the fresh hamachi, toro, sake, unagi etc. All in all - a great find - IN DEL PASO HEIGHTS!! Times have changed!

Yelp
Great food and exceptional service. Really well priced. Our group of 6 had 8 rolls, the mixed tempura, spicy edamame, and a bunch of assorted drinks. We were stuffed! The entire bill came out to $155.00 plus tip. The server was kind, attentive, and met every one of our requests. The fish was fresh and the rolls were fantastic. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Food is great, very fresh. Service is very good even on very busy evenings. Ambience is nice and quaint. I love the staff! So very sad that they are closing!

Yelp
Here's their description of the roll, THE GODFATHER crab and tempura shishito roll, topped with shiso, whitefish, green onion and a tangy, crunchy garlic sauce. There's no whitefish and it's topped with tuna. There's no garlic sauce, it's topped with a red chili sauce. The menu also says it has crab and it has imitation crab. It is also described as tempura shishito roll which has nothing tempura. It is topped with green onions. I asked her if this was The Godfather and she said it was. The only thing I asked for is for the roll to be cut thinly and she said he forgot to cut it thinly. My dinner was nothing like I expected and I'm surprised that they have good ratings.
