Southshore Donuts & Restaurant

I avoid this place, despite its convenient location to my home. Only went twice and the service was terrible. I once went in for three donuts and the lady rolled her eyes. I brushed it off instead of returning that negative energy. I smiled, said thank you, and left a cash tip. No gratitude whatsoever. She remained very cold and unwelcoming for all the 30 seconds it took service me. I went back a month or so after that sour experience, assuming I caught that rude lady on a bad day but the service was more or less the exact same. Fool me twice, won't get fooled again. As far as the food goes, I only had the donuts. They aren't bad but nothing to call home about. Definitely not worth dealing with the terrible attitudes!

I’m four days late on this review but it’s been on my mind to write it. I have made a conscience decision to stop buying donuts from Southshore Donuts. Not because of the donuts because I love their donuts, I skip over Tara Ln donuts and drive farther away to purchase theirs but because of the attitudes the cashiers have. You walk in and they just stare at you. No good morning, no smile, and service is always rude and silly me I still tip them. I truly care not to go in there anymore. I will miss Southshore donuts because I had a taste for them this morning but I’ll go Tara Ln for now on where the service and attitudes are always up beat.

Donuts were good, but dont advertise 24 hours if you dont offer everything. I live close to here and never tried it. I was hoping to get some mini burgers and donuts, but when i walked i i got greeted in an unfriendly manner and the person looked at me and said "no cooking". I could have just walked out and not bought anything, but i still bought donuts and chocolate milk. If i would have known that hot food wasnt available, i wouldnt have wasted my gas and time. I work in the service industry and i dont leave anywhere without leaving a tip. They ran my card and said "i dont need your signature"....so i wasnt able to leave a tip for the rude service i reveived. Next time, ill go to geralds instead.

Shrimp plate was BANGING! We went just after 7pm and had to wait a bit for our food but it was worth it. They still had a good selection of donuts as well. When we looked for a place to pick up dinner we saw this place had decent reviews from locals, but the menu was from 2007. Wanted to upload the 2023 version to show prices haven't gone up much and you still get alot of food for your money.

Some of the best old fashioned donut and cream donut I have ever ate. It was light and fluffy and not overly sweeten. Damn, this place hits the spot.

Stopped in for breakfast, place was busy but they serve everyone fast. The breakfast was good and loved the donuts 🍩 will be coming back here for sure.

Accessing this using the Good Star method is hard . My husband and I really like this place, the donuts and food both are Very good,, the man who makes the donuts does a great job, you can tell her takes pride it doing so, not to mention he's gotta great personality, funny, never had an issue with my aggravating special requests,lol.. As for the service, as for that it friends on the day, shift and waitress. For the most part it's good, as the that"other part, let's just say I'm glad I've matured and learn to control myself in my old age, if not the server yesterday would've had a real quick, undesired, change of physical location before I left J/S.. She is lazy, hatefulland seriously needs to kill reconsider her choice of career..

They have bugs on the donuts. It's not a clean place if you have bugs that get on the food. The food should be sealed to prevent bugs from getting on the food. The service 2/5. The ambiance is dirty.

The service was horrible from the girl with the purple hair. She need to learn customer service and how to talk to customers. I'm going to write a review EVERYTIME I go in there.

Food was good. Donuts are amazing. Service was great. Large cheeseburger Poboy combo was $14.00. Well worth it. Hard to find anywhere to eat lunch like that for under $15. Donuts selection was impressive. Will be back.

The light skinned overnight lady is mean and rude on two occasions I've heard her raising her voice and arguing with customers on the last occasion she made a lot of broad statements like Charlie is going to change my shift. I'm sick of Charlie. She also said she doesn't understand why people want to eat at 2 AM and she doesn't care if they have diabetes which I do have she also never has a lot of things on the menu. I usually don't do this, but this woman is out of control. But I will say the food was good.

This was my number one donut shop in the east as a child, and it still holds the crown in my heart. Southshore is open 24/7 and has all your donut needs. They also serve breakfast and lunch. The inside has counter seating where the regulars like to gather and shoot the breeze. They are located on Downman, close to Hayne. If you are in the mood for donuts, I would suggest visiting them no matter where you are in the city. They also provide discounts for schools, churches, and businesses.

I love places with character and personality and this little joint is all that. The counter was full of patrons all chatting and full of life during Covid. I truly enjoyed the blueberry donuts. And when my diet allows for another cheat day I will be back. The area of town was a little shady looking but the donuts were well worth it.

Come on, how many places can you legitimately say that you walked out with a donut that cost less than a dollar and left you wanting more? This is legitimately my favorite donut shop in NOLA. And I feel that my opinion is vindicated every time I bite into a 75 cent blueberry cake donut. If you take my opinion on anything, this should be the thing that you take it on. Its 24/7, great donuts, a great price, and unbeatable in my opinion. It's in the East (on Downman) so people can feel uneasy going at night, but I'm a white guy and I've never felt uneasy going at any time. If you go late, just ring the doorbell. This is a cool joint that looks like its a small-time place, but it's a gem for real. Give it a try and prioritize it next time you find yourself wanting a donut (even at 1am)!

Typical donut cafe. Donuts are delicious. Service has been different depending on wait staff. Reasonably priced. Offers other food items.

I mean, 24/7!!! They don't call me New Orleans hottest food critic for nothin!! I needed a donut place, stat! The kids had to bring breakfast..so, being Mommy of the Party..I had to deliver! We got all these fun flavors. Donuts are fresh and service is quick. Be careful parking!! It's not the safest area..

Was craving donuts and other pictures of their selection on Yelp drew me in and I was not disappointed. We arrived a bit before 11am and they still had a ton of donuts. We ended up with a maple pecan, Boston Creme, honey bun, and lemon filled glazed. 4 donuts for under $5 is a good price in my book especially since 2 were filled and the honey bun was a decent size. Will definitely come back for an apple fritter and a few others that looked yummy.

Terrible restaurant me and my husband went there and the food was awful i had to throw it away. I ordered a ribeye steak with eggs over easy. The steak had no taste and wasn't even cooked all the way. I'm never going back. This is a review i was supposed to post last year in March but didn't get to it. I made sure i kept these pictures in my phone because i could t believe how they can feel alright with serving me food like this. I would really like to put NO STARS FOR THIS ONE! But since i have to it's 1

It's as local as it gets, and the donuts and cinnamon roll were awesome. They have a breakfast and lunch counter as well, and it was packed.

The breakfast is pretty good. Just be sure to verify your order before hanging up if you're calling in.

I love this place a lot. It is very convenient considering the fact that it is off of Downman right before you get to Haynes. However, I will say this, they are just as busy as any other donut shops. I kid you not, this place may look small but that does not turn away all the customers that goes in to get those delicious hot donuts. They also has other types of breakfast foods besides donuts. For example, one time I had got a hot sausage and smoke sausage biscuit with cheese. It was nicely cooked and I really enjoyed my soft biscuit with just the right amount butter to meat juice combo residue. There is also seating around the ordering area if you decide to dine in, however, the old men customers tend to grab seating to watch the news, sports, etc so you betta' grab a seat before it's gone!

One of the best hidden gems in NOLA. Southshore Donuts is the only 24/7 donut shop serving a wide variety of donuts including hot glazed even late at night. The glazed are big and crispy with a great taste that won't leave your mouth greasy after eating them. I am on hiatus from New Orleans for a while and my waistline thanks me because this was a great find.

I love their hot glaze donuts. They are your typical neighborhood donut shop who doesn't supply any frills just good donuts. They always have hot glaze if you go in the morning but they also have delicious specialty donuts as well. The red velvet cake donut or the caramel with nuts are 2 of my faves. They also offer hot breakfast options such as breakfast platters and sandwiches. They are open 24 hours if you get the middle of the night donut itch.

This place has the best doughnuts! Staff seem like they could use a training course from Chic-Fil-A courtesy school, but that's not why we go back again and again. Their doughnuts simply are second to none. Now... if the hospitality could equal the taste, there is no limit to how big they could get. They'd have to want it though and I think they're pretty okay staying the same. And that's alright with me. Thanks for the doughnuts y'all.

My go to when I just need a wing plate. The hot wings are always cooked perfectly. Many donut options, my favorite is the apple crumble.

Super friendly, quick, I don't eat donuts but the people who did eat the donuts I got for them loved them! Particularly good were (according to them) the red velvet and chocolate glaze

I have been coming here for years. This is probably my favorite donuts shop. Plus I get their breakfast platters and hot sausage sandwiches. Parking is horrible here when it is crowded. There's regular who go in and sit at the counter and talk but they were very welcoming.

Best donuts in the city. I never knew that this place was even here for so long. However, I do believe they should just stick to donuts only rather than the food.

It's definitely been close to, probably over, 20 years since I've been here. I think it was still called Tastee's. The food take a while to make. My bro called the order in when we were passing St. Bernard and we still had to wait about 15 min once we got here. The hot sausage was really good though. So that makes up for the wait.

South shore donuts has the donuts. Flat out. Come in at 7am and you will smell the folgers plant wind blowin the roasted bean and south shore donuts frying up that good. The smell is unbelievable.. Melt in your mouth donuts every single day

Best buttermilk donuts in the city. Period. They're so good, my friend and I went there two days in a row and tasted all their different varieties. And anything with that buttermilk base should be tried and ordered. I could go on and on about the pecan praline one. Get a dozen since it's only going to cost you $6. Yes, about 50 cent for each one, you cannot go wrong! And these things are gigantic- two bites per sides! Apple fritters can feed a family of four. But once they have a bite, they will all want their own. Looks like an old Tastee's so it's not fancy. But their donut display is always lit and well-maintained. Plus I love it's one of those places that all the neighborhood folks go to hang out and grab some awesome pastries. Went there another time for some late morning doughnuts. They were talking about the daytime soap on the tv and how they couldn't believe she got back with him. It was all men discussing Young and the Restless. It was great. Especially when one of the guys actually helped the girl behind the counter grab my-just- finished brewing cup of coffee. Seriously love places like this!

24hr donuts. What else can I say? My family got the burger and was wowed by it. The only thing is that at night the area can feel shady, and they had to kick out someone who was scouting the place out. The service was great, and it felt very homey.

The donuts and the other pastry treats are pretty good. Their deserts are always fresh, usually made early that morning, and they have random times of the day for hot glazed donuts. The food menu is pretty limited in the sides department I believe that they just have fries as a side. But they have the usual still that a donuts shop would serve; chicken wings, chops, I believe fish and shrimp, and of course the go to burgers. They also sell breakfast and that isn't too bad. The seating is limited but its usually just older men having breakfast or lunch watching the tv and talking about sports. On a late night towards the weekend its usually people who have left the night clubs. I always suggest that if you are getting food get it togo.

Just checking in to let everyone know that Southshore is still putting out Delicious Devilment Doughnuts. They have cheap breakfast 24/7. These goodies are meant to soak up all the liquor you consumed at the card party down the street and get you safely home before dawn. As an insurance professional I am begging them to please put a warning sign about the step in the entrance way and to get the display glass fixed!!! Now carry on as I go run for five hours. Darn doughnuts!

Always enjoy the donuts and breakfast. Great crew gets everyone in and out. They even have the regulars in there who will have you laughing while you are waiting. Always stop there when I'm in town.

Had to try the Hot Sausage I kept hearing about. Tried it as a sandwich on toast at 4am. Needless to say "I want another!" It was Fyre!! Spicy & Good the way I like all things in life!.......... Back again the next day. This time I tried a cake donut. Why?!!!!!!! I'll be back! Lol!

Somebody brought donuts from his place into my work months ago and I have thought about them ever since. I WILL go here. I swear it!

I am in love with this place! The donuts are always fresh and tasty. I haven't had the pleasure of trying any of their lunch plates yet but I look forward to it! The caramel pecan donuts are heaven!!

Place doesn't really have that curb appeal buts once you taste what's inside it doesn't matter. Best donuts Iv had here since moving from Cali. Can't wait to try their food and more donuts:)
